jeffh 05-17-2011 03:22 PM

just keep working at it, i was able to get a bit more out of em by focussing on my breathing a bit
i just hit 100lbs last night, even 5lbs is a gain

RacePace 05-17-2011 03:30 PM

well it seems like it for me as I do it every other workout day, and I up 5lbs per session , so 2 weeks is 3 sessions of same weight, sometimes can't even finish the 5x5 :S

anyways I'll keep going of course, I can feel it helping my traps/lats a lot.

RRxtar 05-17-2011 05:00 PM

working out for 2 years, only been on this strong lifts 5x5 program for a bit over a month now, gains in the 5 other exercises after every session but OH is the only one "lagging" behind.

Doing the same routine. The Overhead press is indeed hard to add on weight, even if its 2.5lbs each side. Whats your tempo and how's your warm-up before the actual working set of 5x5?

I have a question that I am really stumped by,

Ive started work that is physically demanding and I am wondering how I can squeeze workouts in between and not be sore for next day.
Recovery methods?

I work 6 days a week and if I can't work due to my workout that would suck balls because when I workout I wanna do it to the fullest.

My work sucks ass too (probably not as bad as yours). I work in a grocery store and stock the frozen foods, its pretty light duty but working in the -15 degrees freezer fucking sucks as you're lifting in confined space and the boxes are awkward and some are heavy as hell and it is hell on your joints.

What I used to do is save my last break till about an hour and a half - 2 hours before I'm off, eat a good meal and as soon as I leave work slam a preworkout and drive to the gym. Also started taking generic multivitamins and omega 3 pills around this time to help my recovery a bit. Worked for me .. just go home and collapse and go to sleep after. Good luck!

Is it bad to pre mix protein powder with water or is that just broscience?

Warm up , just been using the bar to warm up until my muscles warm up.

Push on the up, a little slow on the negatives.
Barbell reaches the chin before "exploding" upwards.

How about you?

Well before I tackle the weight I usually do the shoulder "discloation" stretch.

Then I kick it off like this; explosive positive, slow negative:
1x10 Bar
1x10 25% 1RM
1x8 50% 1RM
5x5 85% 1RM

I find gradually building up the weight rather than go from bar to your 5x5 working set doesn't get you prepared enough to do solid 5 sets. From bar (no weight) to working set; the first and second set feels like its still a warm-up in my opinion.

Thats just me though.
