im starting to get a new perspective on how the body adapts to weights and gains strength

i firmly believe that even struggling thru a couple reps of 275 is better than plowing out 8 reps of 255 for gaining strength. i really believe everytime you lift more than you can (within reason), your body learns that new weight and will adapt to being able to lift it in the future. even if you dont really get a good set in, just having the weight in your hands seems to make a difference

i think this, because sometimes when im stuck at a weight for a while powering out good reps but not able to lift any more than that weight, if i throw in a set of even a couple reps of 10% more weight, when i go back to the lesser weight, it becomes easier, and quite often ill be able to move up 5% after that.

so just for example, if youre benching 185 but are stuck and cant seem to be able to bench 195 cleanly.. grab a spotter and push out a couple reps of 205. dont make the spotter lift it for you, just have him there to give you a hand if you need it. when you go back to 185 the next time you're doing bench, it seems easier, and you might be able to start doing sets of 195.

or maybe theres no blood left in my brain

That's when you overload your CNS to adapt to heavier weights. ie. for bench, exercises such as board press, and reverse band bench, will do so.

Picked up a blender bottle from Popeyes. $5, used two popeyes bucks to get it down to $3. Dude gave me $1 popeye buck coz he ran out of change and unloaded a bunch of dimes to me.

Great delt workout today for me. Man i havent felt this good in a while.
Cant do any running as I got a blister from walking the beach on my heal, and cut my toe on a fuckin bottle at the river today :@

i've been feeling great recently.

broke through my plateaus (and not even sure how). was stuck basically for a few months already without much gains. might be due to a friend mentioning how my bench was weak compared to his when he was only working out for a few months. i guess this gave me motivation to push harder to prove to him how weak my bench was lol.

within a month, went from

flat db press - 55-60 x 7 to 70 x 8 (75 x 5)
incline db press - 50 x 8 to 60 x 8
shoulder press - 50 x 8 to 60 x 8
deadlift - 135 x 8 to 205 x 7

haven't felt this motivated in awhile to lift hard. hoping to up my deadlift to 225 by next week. hope i continue to see gains.

:werd: too many noobs asking the same question... maybe halogodv2/ can do it

gdoh 07-29-2010 09:30 AM

started doing deadlifts for first time taking it light for 3 weeks(135lbs) my back is super tight lol but it felt pretty good cant wait till i go heavy =]

RRxtar 07-29-2010 03:33 PM

take your time. 'cheating' to get more weight doesnt help deadlifts and can very quickly hurt you.

DC5-S 07-30-2010 06:17 AM

still on my trip, one more week to go.. been eating all junk since day 1.. will see how my lifts have suffered.. hopefully not much.. im gonna give it my all when I come back and finish this cut

sonick 07-30-2010 07:13 AM

Yah, I gotta re-vamp my deadlift, my form's been suffering due to going up in weight. I am finding my weight transferring to my forefoot when I first push off instead of all my weight being on my heel at all times.

Can't wait 'til tomorrow, gonna try a full scoop of 1MR since I can go to the gym during the day instead of after work a few hours before bed. Gonna tear some shit up, it's gonna be glamour muscle day.
