check with your credit card company and see if payment went through. Maybe put a hold cause they thought it was suspicious activity.

well think of it this way... if you keep extending your contract every year for 3 yrs and end up with say like a 30yrs contract if you renew every year for 10yrs... who's paying for the contract if you no longer can afford it if something happens? i mean it makes sense to not allow you to do that =\ it's not just rogers... it's the same with every single company... so you are essentially saying... why bother signing up with any carrier?

I'm in the exact same boat. Signed my 3 year contract in Sept 2010 so I'd have to pay $169 to early HUP.

Basically, you have to see it from their point of view. When you signed the 3 year contract, the phone you got was heavily subsidized.
Right now, a $699 16 gig i5 is only $179 with a 3 year contract from Fido.
If it isn't for the $15 per month for early renewal, which only started recently to fight again all the other non-contract carriers, how would they be able to discount the phone $520?

Yea 6000 on Rogers lol...

But it seems pretty legit though..$50 credit if your phone is not available from 15 days of making the reservation

I'm curious to see where I stand for a hardware upgrade, I got my 4 2 weeks after release with Rogers, so would that be sept 2010?

How much leverage do the guys in the stores have to waive the fee's? Im picking mine up from cellcom in guildford, can their reps speak to Retentions on my behalf?

i got it waived 100% as well. im still under my dads name and he has been with rogers for over 10 years. they didn't offer it right away though, i kept complaining and finally after 20 minutes of being put on hold/arguing that i am a long time customer etc they waived the fee.

keep calling customer care and asking until you get someone who will give it to you. my friend called the first time and told him he cannot even get a discount on his upgrade fee, called 20 minutes later and they waived it completely

That's not how renewals work. It just replaces your current contract. It's not cumulative.

I don't know right now because the Rogers website is going hella slow for me but I would say don't bother. I tried using that link to check on upgrade 3 times over the course of 2 months a few months back and every time after 2 weeks of hearing nothing I will finally get an email saying "We were unable to verify your account information please call us". Fucking useless.

After that I contacted Rogers a couple times using their online chat and it was way better than calling those fuckers. Their 1st line CSR's on the phone are useless.

Yes, the only way to currently get an iPhone unlocked is to pay the carrier, but only if you purchased it outright or the contract the phone is attached to is over.

On a sidenote.. Chronic from the JB community is offering unlocks now, but at a substantially higher price. The benefit is that you don't have to fulfill any of the conditions mentioned above - https://twitter.com/chronic/status/2...068032/photo/1

With that said, I see a bunch of people locally offering the same service - vancouver, BC all for sale / wanted classifieds "unlock iphone" - craigslist

My only worry is that what if the unlock gets caught by the carriers or Apple? I'll definitely be out of $100+

Definitely tempted though since I'll be in Asia next year.
