How's Rom Toolbox Pro compared to TB Pro?
Rom Toolbox is on sale for $2.99.
I've only used TB Lite and it's a real pain to install apps one by one.

Theres a massively long thread on xda about how the N4 slips off the Charging Orb.

Some guy got pissed off and decided to make this out of aluminum to solve the problem. LOL

HEY GUYS ive been itching my balls hard for a new phone as I am sick and bored of my galaxy s3.

I know the HTC one is coming up but i don't wanna drop a pretty penny for a new phone as I am ultimately waiting for the next crazy phone (prob note 3) which will debut sometime this fall?

I have my eyes set on the nexus 4. It will be a breath of fresh air switching over from a samsung phone.

I've been reading this thread for awhile now but i have to say i see a lot of negative unhappy posts?

Would you recommend a person switching from s3 to nexus 4?

what i do on phone :
- its used as an mp3 player, i have a chitttt ton of songs
- i read a LOT on my phone, from forums to e-books
- i text a lot too

would you recommend the switch ?

i'll thank-stalk the users who give me a good recommendation

dinamix 04-07-2013 08:21 PM

tried switching to nexus 4 from s3. sold the nexus the next day.

nexus 4 sucks
battery life sucks(s3 lasts twice as long). UI sucks. Its laggy compared to the S3. Its heavier and thicker than the s3. the photosphere us useless. The phone just feels cheaper. i would not recommend getting the n4 if your coming from s3

Since you're posting in a nexus 4 thread you'll get alot of people praising it.
I think the only downfall for the N4 is it's battery life.

If memory is an important thing to you and you need external space, the nexus 4 probably isn't for you.

Drow 04-07-2013 08:35 PM

well... lets just say i have an extra battery that's charged up which i DO end up having to use on my s3 on some days

i'd be really struggling to conserve my battery life. on days where i text a lot, my s3 battery life becomes red around 6 pm so i guess n4 is a no go :(

dinamix 04-07-2013 08:46 PM

Its a great phone for the price but it is a downgrade from an s3

R5x 04-07-2013 08:56 PM

I wouldn't really call it a downgrade from sgs3 from any point other than the battery life and lack of expandable storage.

UI is very subjective, but I personally find Samsung Touchwiz disgusting and tasteless and would absolutely prefer stock Android over it.
I don't see how performance would be worse either seeing how the Nexus 4 has a faster processor and gpu and isn't running a custom skin on top.

But overall at this stage, I think you should probably just wait for the next gen phones or flash a custom rom onto s3 if you want something new.

!Yaminashi 04-07-2013 09:12 PM

I'd have to disagree there. I use to think touchwiz absolutely sucked, but I do find it has several useful features that I use regularly. Specifically if you're texting someone and you choose to call them, you can just hold the phone up to your ear and the phone does the rest.

Smart stay is pretty good too imo

R5x 04-07-2013 09:19 PM

Oh I totally agree that the functionality of some of the non-gimmicky Touchwiz software is very useful and nicely implemented. In fact I wish some of them would be incorporated into AOSP for the next Android versions.

I just never cared much for the actual look of Touchwiz UI. Too cartoony and sometimes doesn't follow some of the holo UI guidelines that Google is trying to push for apps. I can also never get used to capacitive buttons again either.

In some aspects yes, but overall, I would have to disagree. I also came to a N4 from an S3.

The most notable downgrade is the camera and the screen. The camera on the N4 kinda sucks especially when theres low light, or too much light. You have to take a picture under just the right lighting condition for a good picture. Whereas I never found this a problem on my S3. Also the AMOLED on the S3 is so much more vivid! the IPS colours on the N4 is very washed out. I also miss LTE. Although it isn't necessary to begin with.

But I think the good justify my change, which are:

- Pentaband, so that I can pop in my Roam sim when I cross the border to the states and use my Roam plan on Tmobile's AWS coverage.
- Quad core in the N4 is noticeably faster than the dual core in the S3. In fact, Touchwiz lags on the S3. I've never noticed any lag on the N4.
- Stock Android is nicer. I like the minimalistic feeling on the N4. Sammy is too loaded with garbage apps now.
- Android updates straight from Google. Screw waiting for Sammy updates. In fact, the S3 is still on 4.1.x right?

insomniac 04-08-2013 12:15 AM

I went from s3 to nexus 4. Completely unbiased here as I'm a iOS user but I like to play around with phones. I agree with the nexus 4 camera issue. Its horrible with exposures. Call me crazy but i do prefer the nexus 4 screen. Having a photography background the s3 screen is more blue. While it is more vivid the colors areore artificial. Touchwiz and the nexus 4 interface is very subjective and depends on your personal taste. The nexus 4 is way snappier whereas the s3 lags a lot. All the stock features are way better on the nexus 4 for example the keyboard, lockscreen, etc
I personally find touchwiz pretty horrible especially after being an iPhone user. Takes a while to figure out and no where near as convenient as the iPhone features. The battery for the nexus 4 sucks. Where's like other said you can carry extra batteries for the s3. I disagree about the nexus 4 feeling cheap because the s3 is a hunk of plastic. I've had people argue to me saying it costs money to replace the glass back but I use my phone every day and its so cheap and plasticy. Kinda like comparing a leather bmw to a plastic Honda civic dash. Yeah the BMW costs more but id take that interior over the civics any day. The nexus 4 is much much much more snappy though.

Flashing the phone with mods, kernels, or custom rom, will fix many of the issue the N4 has.

I get around 4~5 hours of screen time with wifi/3g on, auto bright, location off.
That's surfing the web, whatspps/texting.
I get more than enough during the whole day.

Camera on N4 do suck. Even picture from my S2 looks better.
I use a case on my phone so it feels cheap either way.
Screen is subjective, but there are calibration apps.
And UI can be change with mods/rom!

The change from S3 to N4 (vice versa), is more like a "sidegrade"
I wouldn't recommend to switch to N4 from S3, unless you can sell your S3 for the price you're buying your N4.
If you're not going to flash, just stick with S3 and see what they come up with later in the year!!

FerrariEnzo 04-08-2013 06:13 AM

You have to think about the price here... your paying almost HALF the price compared to the S3... Its faster then ALL other phones in this price range... IMHO, its the best price/performance phone on the market...
Its like buying a car.. you can get a cheap car which is slow and boring OR spend an arm and a leg and get a nice FAST car....

We all know the saying, You Get What You Pay For:badpokerface:

DC5-S 04-08-2013 11:39 AM

Get off the crack pipe if you think s3 is faster

True that, flashing an aftermarket Kernel makes a huge difference on battery life. I get 3-4 hours of screen time and still got 30% left by the time I go to bed. Which means battery life isn't a concern at all.

I just hope the "Nexus 5" gets a better camera. =_=

hongy 04-08-2013 12:36 PM

Jesus what rom are you guys on, franco nightly+xylon for me gets me 3 hrs screen time, 12hr battery and then it's dead.
