Heck, the Bell I9100M FINALLY had official JB update last week. And its only 4.1.2. =_=

Original Note still hasn't gotten official JB.

FerrariEnzo 02-17-2013 01:12 PM

ANYONE else using the Wireless ORB or other Qi chargers?

Is the phone suppose to get warm when the phone is charged?? Mine did, I googled to find info but nothing came up...

Why are you guys waiting around for official updates from carriers?
You can get things so fast from xda..

Oh hell no, I don't wait for Sammy updates. I've been rooted and running custom ROMs within the first hour of owning my S2. Just saying that Sammy updates are SSLLLLOOOOWWWWWW

You know, having now had my phone for a few days, and comparing it side-by-side to my gnex....I now understand why people are so disgusted by pentile displays.

I mean seriously...Jesus. This thing's crisper than fresh-picked lettuce.

!Yaminashi 02-17-2013 08:24 PM

Yeah pentile is a mess. It was only awesome when the gnex came out cause that was the first with a "720p" screen

R5x 02-17-2013 08:27 PM

I'm actually experiencing amoled burn-in (status bar and nav bar areas) and also a ton of horizontal "striations" all over my screen now that my gnex is a year old. No more amoleds for me. The screen is one of the big factors making me want to jump to the nexus 4.

yuusha 02-17-2013 08:50 PM

IF you think the Nexus 4's screen is crisp, try using an HTC One X for a while. I went from that to the Nexus 4, I love my Nexus but the screen is just so much better on the One X.

Of course you'll get burn in. Your status and nav bar are always constantly there.

I'm wondering if those horizontal striations have anything to do with pentile in itself. Before I had my gnex I was using an S2 for about a year and I dont think I ever experienced burn in on my s2.

Before I sold my gnex I had alot of horizontal striations just like you mentioned. I have no idea where they came from and they were too close to the middle of my screen to be from the keyboard.
It was mostly noticeable on a gray background. Either that or I just never noticed them before until I sold it, or maybe we both just have fucked up screens

I think right now, the One X and the BB Z10 have the best looking screens on the market.

Still debating whether or not I want to get a N4 or just wait a bit longer for BB10 to get the bugs out and get the Z10...

Yeah burn in was expected, but is still an annoying trait of amoleds and the status/nav bars are not going anywhere anytime soon in the Android UI.

The striations are almost a dealbreaker and are really distracting when doing anything with a white or grey background. I don't know if other amoled 720p screens have that issue (eg. GS3 and Note). I've looked at 2 other gnex screens and one has it (less than mine) and one has very very faint traces of it. Just way too many problems with amoleds that I would much rather go LCD in the future despite the lack of true blacks. Accurate colors > over saturated colors.

I just don't know if it's worth it to get a Nexus 4 at this point considering this is the year of 1080p screens and all the next gen tech is coming out and I'm hoping for phones with better battery life. I'm only going to buy a Nexus phone (if staying with Android) so it's a loooong wait for the next Nexus. :okay:

When you say striations are you talking about portions of the screen that seem to be darker/brighter?
Or do you mean where it seems like there are burned in lines going across the screen?

lol actual faint lines across the screen. I'm pretty sure I got a sub-par screen. My screen also has purple tints for grays that I've minimized with kernel color adjustments.
I also have portions that may be darker and brighter at times but that's not nearly as distracting.

Yeah when I first got my gnex I noticed a faint line running down the right side of my screen. I'm assuming that maybe you just got a subpar screen cause I never had any issues like that on my S2 when I was using it

shenmecar 02-17-2013 10:22 PM

the gf's S2 and my S2 which we both had for over a year has the same burn in at the top. AMOLEDs are good cuz black is seriously black. But the burn in is annoying cuz its one of those things that can't be unseen once seen.

hopefully the IPS display on the Nexus 4 isn't like that in a year from now.

Doesn't the phone get warm during any kind of charging?

Anyone wanna buy my knockoff Nexus 4 bumper? $10. Its almost a perfect copy except the bottom charging port is a bit off. I prefer my poetic bumper instead.

Has anyone used the nexus 4 toolkit with android 4.2.2? I'm not sure what's going on but my computer is not detecting my nexus 4 (4.2.2) at all. Where as it is detecting it on my second nexus 4 that has 4.2.1

Graeme S 02-19-2013 05:03 PM

Don't think it supports 4.2.2 yet.

hongy 02-19-2013 11:02 PM

Not sure about the windows version of the toolkit, but it took about 2 clicks on the mac version of the toolkit. Everything worked out the first time.

Coren 02-20-2013 09:37 AM

You need to update the toolkit for 4.2.2 to work. The update is in the OP in the toolkit thread on XDA.

was using the latest version of the toolkit already, quite strange. Oh well, everything is working out for me now.
