Ah, Nexus upgrade. How sweet you are.

did you upgrade to the Feb14th release? Heard there are many bugs due to it being on the 4.2.2...

Im on Feb11th release, last 4.2.1.. everything works smooth...

Graeme S 02-14-2013 03:58 PM

Yeah, I'm running Feb 14. Haven't run into any problems, but..y'know. New phone too.

Although...I may have to RMA it. I've got a line of pixels about 1/4 from the left side that runs blue in medium-darkness colours. fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu.

Graeme S 02-14-2013 05:33 PM

Oh :sweetjesus: this thing is so much faster than my gnex.

I am so glad I didn't wait any longer.

R5x 02-14-2013 05:38 PM

I've been debating if I should get one too and sell off my gnex. Worth it?

What do you find it faster in particular?

I've only been using it half a day so far, but I've loaded up all the apps I had before and have everything brought over from my old phone. Snappier, quicker, and even on heavy memory draw apps like fullscreen flash games, it's a whole tonne quicker than my gnex.

way2quik 02-14-2013 06:11 PM

Using Matr1x kernel and with Location Access off, I get 3 hours screen time on 3G. I don't use wifi at all. Max I get with Location Access on (Google Now, Maps.. etc in the background) is 2H 20M or so, which isn't too bad. I could have probably gotten the same results if I stayed with franco r53.

Unless something WOWs me with the next big update to PA3, I may switch back to stock. The PIE is neat, just fancy.

Still on PA 4.2.1 till my other Mods get updated.

There's the link with the file location and how to get 4.2.2

Since I'm rooted with a custom recovery, will I have to redownload and save everything if I flash this?

Well it does wipe your internal. So I would assume so.

Also 4.2.2 kills LTE, if anyone cares.

Darthchilli fixed that with a reflash to the 4.2.1 radio.

I've used the nexus 4 for a couple of weeks now and it's great. Everything about it is better then my gnex, except for battery life. I was able to pull off 13+ hours on my gnex with 3.5-4hr of on screen time on the extended battery. Right now I can do about 12hrs and 1.5-2hrs of on screen time.

Hmm...how come the screen on time is so awful? Kind of a deal breaker right there.

honestly not sure, Both are running xylon+franco. Granted I haven't had as much time to mess around with the nexus4, such as doing the battery life improvements that simplex123 posted a couple of weeks ago.

Should also mention that I always have 3g or wifi on, gps always on, screen usually min-20%.

R5x 02-14-2013 08:44 PM

I've been reading that the Nexus4 has problems with receiving notifications (ie. staying sync'd with google servers) while on wifi and screen off. People on xda complaining that they get a flood of all their whatsapp/gtalk/gmail messages and notifications when they turn their screen on.

I think it's been acknowledged by google that it's a known problem and the fix did not make it into 4.2.2. Have you guys noticed that as well?

!MiKrofT 02-14-2013 09:02 PM

I rarely use wifi so it doesn't affect me much. I believe it's something to do with keepawake while the screen is off. The Nexus 4 is very noticably faster in everything you do when compared to the Gnex.

!Yaminashi 02-14-2013 09:13 PM

I would hope so, you have 2 extra cores :p

Ch28 02-15-2013 07:56 PM

Just upgraded to 4.2.2 OTA

Go to apps>all>google service framework>clear data and force stop>back to settings>about phone>system updates>check now

More cores doesn't mean anything of the os isn't optimized for it.

DC5-S 02-16-2013 01:12 AM

You can still get lte by flashing 4.2.1 radio.. I choose not to tho since I don't really care for lte.. All I do is surf the net and barely watch YouTube on the go

604_Snooze 02-16-2013 07:13 PM

so you guys really like this phone right? just that the battery is kind of weak?

I was thinking to get the noteII on Wind, but the nexus 4 seems to be the better choice, cheaper and smaller.

Ch28 02-16-2013 07:17 PM

Note 2 surprisingly has great battery life, but you're subject to Samsung's update schedule

If they're both Google devices why wouldn't the os be optimized for the phones?

!MiKrofT 02-16-2013 09:07 PM

Just because it works doesn't mean it's optimized. Android itself isn't a very optimized os to begin with and probably not fully utilizing multi core processing. Also quad core chips are newer tech and therefore have better performance than say a older dual core chip which is why they're also faster overall.

Culverin 02-17-2013 11:02 AM

Yeah, I've had my eye on that one too.
I put in a request to DX to see if they can get stock cheaper.
