i had so much hope to see Bmo return. im a little sad now. that guy worked as hard as he could every night and really just needed a good season. i still think hes capable of 60 points with the right wingers.

as for sundin, i really REALLY do not want to see him in a canuck uniform, but at this point, its not like saving $10m is going to help us either. i would much rather see it as a 1 year deal tho.

Ch28 07-07-2008 05:22 PM

^ One thing you have to remember is that having a guy like Sundin around will help tremendously with the development of our younger guys that are currently on the Canucks roster. Guys like Kesler, Raymond and Bernier will benefit hugely from having a guy like Sundin to learn from.

bossxx 07-07-2008 05:22 PM

Canucks are in a crappy position.. lots of money but nothing to spend it on lol. Too bad we can't just save it for next year haha

Sorry but im going to have to completely disagree with you there, imo the Sundin deal and the ideals behind it are exactly the same wether he signs last week, or in august

But the fact is if he signs in August, it's most likely too late to pull in any potential players that might of wanted to play alongside with Sundin, since they all signed with other teams already.

Grandmaster TSE 07-07-2008 05:51 PM

just because most of the big names are gone, doesn't mean theres no one to sign

there are plenty of good players that aren't signed yet
they're not big name players, but they get the job done

Sw0op 07-07-2008 06:38 PM

for what it's worth..Eklund is reporting Demitra to Vancouver is done
..keep in mind..this is eklund here..

goo3 07-07-2008 06:56 PM

Thinking back, the new rules turned out to be bad for the WCE . I remember Naslund and Morrison were excellent at creating turnovers in the offensive zone by hooking and obstructing :D

RRxtar 07-07-2008 07:08 PM

and bertuzzi was good at shoving people out of his way infront of the net to get into position = interference

9:30PM UPDATE: According to a source, the Vancouver Canucks and UFA forward Pavol Demitra are closing in on a multi-year deal. One source indicated the two sides may have verbally agreed to a deal but we are still awaiting further confirmation. Any deal won't be announced until tomorrow.

Shorty20 07-07-2008 08:01 PM

man...just imagine how screwed we would be if Sundin rejected the offer at the end of august...

Wongtouski 07-07-2008 08:08 PM

Hey can the hockey experts here school me on Demitra today as a player? All I know is that I'd trade for him in the season mode in NHL 98....

hypediss 07-07-2008 08:08 PM

pls no plexiglass man :(

I'd say no, he doesn't really bring anything new to the table that Naslund or Morrison didn't IMO, non physical finesse type player. He's also more injury prone than those 2, only played a full season twice in his career.

goo3 07-07-2008 08:53 PM

consistent ppg skill player - better agility than Naslund.

If he wasn't so injury prone, I'd have him in my hockey pool as one of my better forwards (for pts only). I can't say that about Naslund or Morrison post WCE.

"Pavol Demitra – It’s been five years (and three teams) since he’s crossed the 64-point threshold. In the right situation, he may get 70 points in 70 games, but he is too fragile to expect more – no matter where he plays."

Demitra is going to be a good move by Gillis.

Keep in mind he has never played on a really offensive team..

Minnesota, LA, St. Louis..

Not like Vancouver will be offensively better than any of the teams I listed.

Last 3 seasons..

Naslund - 81G w. 245 games = .33 gpg
Demitra - 65G w. 197 games = .33 gpg
Morrison - 48G w. 203 games = .23 gpg

Interesting statistic..

Hondaracer 07-07-2008 09:24 PM

lol imagine if both Sundin and Demitra sign? i have a feeling fans would change their tune pretty quick lol

I agree.

Demitra has also worn the C and A during times with the Wild.

I believe Minnesota was rotating captains for a while but I believe Rolston was their captain for the majority of the year.

Speaking of captains. If Sundin or Demitra sign in the future will either wear the C or A? I would assume Sundin would wear an A.

This season is definately going to take some getting used to (in regards to players lost and found).

RiceIntegraRS 07-07-2008 09:34 PM

i believe Demitra will be a good pickup. He still has a lethal wrist shot, something i think Naslund lost. But im pretty sure he wont be playin with the Sedins.

Sedin Sedin Bernier
Demitra "Sundin" Raymond
Burrows Kelser Pyatt
Pettinger Wellwood Johnson

Thats if we only land Sundin, thats when we can take our hand off the Panic Button.

one thing that he *could* bring is the ability to play with the Sedins. He is a RW, and *was* a goal scorer, something the Sedins have never really had on their line. Naslund as we all know had no chemistry with the twins.

hypediss 07-07-2008 09:44 PM

^ we have bernier for that i believe
