Canucks also signed Rob Davison today too. Very good depth signing, guy plays with heart, hits hard and decent fighter, also very good locker room guy.

the guy who's only goal last season came from a 175+ foot shot from his own zone that beat toskala!!!!

We only have 10.69 million cap space now.

It's either Sundin or two other Demitra-level players.

Dave Pratt just said on 1040 that he’s hearing that Mats Sundin could sign here by next week.

He emphasized that he's hearing “rumblings from sources”. (Supposedly John Shorthouse is hearing the same things.)

Demitra's interview after signing with Canucks.

the_rickster 07-10-2008 02:30 PM

we'll have a whopping $69 grand left in cap space if we sign mats to $10m/yr. i bet there's a trade on the back burner.

Kev

The actual cap space we have right now is 10.069

We'll have 69k in cap space if Sundin signs :lol

Somebody has to be traded and my guess would be Bieksa at 3.750M next season. Salo or Ohlund could also get traded since they're at 3.5M but the Canucks would get a better offer with Bieksa. Ohlund is heading into his final season of his 3.5M contract so I wouldn't be surprised if he is shipped off. :o

RacePace 07-10-2008 02:49 PM

Sundin would be pissed if he came and Ohlund was shipped off, he's a reason for him coming here

Roach 07-10-2008 02:49 PM

I think we could get more for Bieksa on the open market. Another forward to complement the Sundin Demitra Bernier additions would be nice.

Ya, Pratt said that Shorty will be on with them around 4:20 with some inside scoop regarding the Sundin situation ....

Tambelini said that Sundin has started working out really hard and they are seeing that as a sign that he is getting ready to play , so that means that it isn't about whether he will play, only where he will play... Canucks still have the top offer...
interesting

Yeah, could be a trade in the works if Sundin is agreeing to come here and I suspect it'll be one of our d-men that'll be traded.

I doubt Ohlund would get traded.

"Obviously... you know.. uh uh uh obviously you know. yeah obviously you know"

lol

the_rickster 07-10-2008 03:24 PM

if we're gonna lose a d-man my guess is Salo or Bieksa.

the trade would have to be designed so that we can free up cap room. who in the league has a need for a defenseman like either of those two and is willing to give up a player who makes less than $2.5m that has second line potential? it's either that or draft picks.

cspec 07-10-2008 03:31 PM

Pittsburgh might... They have an overload of forwards.

"Sundin signed, sealed, and delivered in the next 7-10 days"

According to Dave Pratt, numerous sources claim that "the Canucks are really really close to signing Sundin"
