that i dont know. but 2.5mil for bernier is a steal i think. i wish we locked him up for alil longer at that price.

The Blues offered Bernier a 1 year deal worth 2.5m, Bernier accepted so the Canucks had to match that 1 year offer, its a non-negotiable thing after Bernier accepted the offer sheet, the Canucks had two options, match the offer or let him go to the Blues.

I think the Canucks and Bernier can negotiate a contract extension for 2009/10+ but as of right now Bernier is signed for 2.5 and is a RFA again next summer.

and I highly doubt that deal would ever go through because

A) That would put us wayyyyy over the cap if all things came through

B) Your losing pretty much an entire line in exchange for a player that NEEDS linemates.

As for the bernier deal and not going through in signing him to a long term deal right away, i belive it's because first, it's only for 1 year so at the end of this year a brand new contract could be negotiated and settled before his rights are lost, as well who knows if u want to sign him for 2.5? maybe next year if he underperforms you offer him a long term deal for less then 2.5 over the number of years

The Sedin's combined makes 750k more than Kovalchuk so it wouldn't really put us over the cap ;)

Exactly, thats why the offer was only for 1 year. He woudlnt be making 2.5 next year but after he has his career year, he'll be able to cash in. If JD made the offer for 3 years at 2.5, it'd be a steal by the 3rd year.

KenM 07-08-2008 06:02 PM

2.5 mil sounds like a fair deal.

I would've prefered if we had sign him to a multi-year deal though

Sedins is plural right? :P

also he's obviously going to be wanting way more dough

cspec 07-08-2008 06:11 PM

lol... let's ask the thrashers if we can do a one on one trade with daniel sedin and kovalchuk, lol...

hi5-ive 07-08-2008 06:22 PM

atl got nothing other than kovalchuk,

but they got young talents like colby armstrong and erik christensen.

RiceIntegraRS 07-08-2008 06:22 PM

(Rumor) Gaborik wants out of Minny and wants to play with his buddy Demitra. Hes unhappy that Rolston left and Demitra is gonna sign somewhere else. And quite possibly Might be traded to Van for Bieksa + Raymond and a draft pick. Im hoping its true

Not sure about the details regarding the trade but Gaborik has been unhappy in Minny for a bit. He's not too fond of Lemaire's trap system and I can see him wanting out with the departure of both Demitra and Rolston. Demitra and Gaborik are very close friends.

Gillis will talk to Bernier's agent after January 1st regarding an extension.

cspec 07-08-2008 06:30 PM

trading away raymond...? that kid has potential...

RiceIntegraRS 07-08-2008 06:30 PM

read it on CDC and read it on some other hockey forums. but since the source is in slovakian i dunno,

http://www.bleskovky.sk/cl/12/247970...jima-o-Demitru

some people have said that Gaborik wants to play with his buddy demitra

and not to mention that`ll he`ll be a UFA next season apparently, and he`s seeking League max to stay in Minny. In Van he will go there for less playing with Demitra. and theres a bunch of threads in the Wild forums saying this too. So its not completly made up.

Hondaracer 07-08-2008 06:38 PM

how can u trust that source though when Demitra's agent himself has said the deal isnt done yet?

trading away Raymond will probablyy be a bad thing cause this guy has alot of potential. To wait for him to become a star by then, everyone else is gone, and we are still the same mediocre team with new kids we are waiting for to bloom.

So are the Sedins. They're going to get at least 11. Kovalchuk won't get that much.

For the record I'd rather have the Sedins.

Razor Ramon HG 07-08-2008 06:56 PM

I'd take Kovalchuk in a heartbeat. As good as the Sedins are, they will never be as good as Kovalchuk, and they're simply too easy to stop. Besides, he's younger and a lot grittier than the Sedins, which this team desperately needs to be able to compete in the West IMO.

And as for Gaborik, he'd be a great investment like Demitra... but only if he stays healthy.

exactly, thats how davidson sorta handcuffs the canucks (even though they have so much cap space). make a 1 year offer that the canucks need to match, watch him rip it up next year and then watch him get offers for 4 mil.

doubledouble 07-08-2008 07:10 PM

sedins for OVECHKIN anyone?
