It seems you're shocked he's 220 when it's quite the norm for someone his size to weigh that much.

Hondaracer 07-11-2008 05:34 PM

listed weights on websites and NHL reports are never playing weights anyways

BadHawk 07-11-2008 05:35 PM

from my knowledge of hockey edler was 180-185 a yr ago

Harvey Specter 07-11-2008 05:47 PM

The NHL could be in trouble if more players opt out and head to Russia.

This league has alot of potential to expand.

might be potential, but its gonna be a LONG time before any of these leagues can ever compete with the NHL. One of those teams you mentioned is playing in a 4,000 seat arena built in 1947....thats barely even BCHL standards

he's making 1.5mil and put up 16 goals and 37 points, and was a +9. How much more do you expect.

don't be a fool. the talent pool and development programs in north america are so rich that there will never be a shortage of highly skilled players readily available at every draft that have had lifelong dreams of playing in the nhl. it's the money hungry europeans that came here for the cash that are going back home for the same.

I said COULD be in trouble. Fuck. Some people really need to read before they start yapping up a storm.

Ok, but don't think he should use his size a little more often? That's my biggest beef with him. He's so big but barely hits or doesn't anything that will impact the game.

yeah, and a meteor COULD strike robert luongo as he goes for a run. but it isn't going to happen, so why even fucking speculate?

Well hey players are signing with teams in Russia so who thought that would happen. Any league that has the money to lure players from the NHL is a threat.

cspec 07-11-2008 09:10 PM

^ Totally agree. The NHL would take a huge hit if say, Ovechkin (not saying he will leave the NHL), returned to Russia.

Kev

WTF. Either there's a trade in the works for Gillis or we are overloaded on forwards. A 1-way? WTF?

shawn79 07-11-2008 09:57 PM

nhl player retirement home is the KHL

Selanne_200 07-11-2008 11:53 PM

Once the KHL gains some momentum and lures a few nhl stars over, I wouldn't doubt the KHL being any less competitive than the Nhl.

However, there is no shortage of room in the Press Box! ;)

Haha kind of like Bertuzzi! But this guy was a first rounder so I guess we should have high expectations.

Yea, you're forgetting that players like Ovechkin and Malkin know what a fucked up country Russia is....how many of you here would be dumb enough to move and work in China in any other city other than Shanghai? How many wanna bet that Emery somehow goes missing during the year being the shit starter that he is?

thats why he's only making 1.5mil a season.

typical canucks fans tryin to find something to complain about. and who said this guy is a cancer is just a complete moron, just cause the girls come to see him.

If a guy scores fans complain that he doesnt hit, and if a guy hits alot, u complain that he doesnt score enough. And when he does both u gotta pay him 3+mil and then u complain about him making too much money.
Theres no winning in this city.

Happened with Naslund, Bertuzzi, Cloutier, Cooke, Kesler.
Happening now with the Sedins, Bieksa, Pyatt, Salo, eventually Demitra, and probably Sundin if he comes.

Truer words have never, ever been posted on RS.

jigga250 07-12-2008 12:11 PM

Pyatt was one of the few Canucks last year, along with maybe Kesler and Pettenger, who could actually create his own shot. He's really improved on coming down the wing, and using his size to drive to the net/get a shot. For 1.5mil he is a bargain right now.

welcome to vancouver. the city is like that for everything. if you have a nice car, you must be a drug dealer. if you've got a hot girlfriend she must be a whore, if you've got a good job, it must be a family business. the city is negative, and thats why a lot of players don't like it here. beautiful scenery, negative people and constant press. just like they were saying on 1040 the other day, naslund's wife got harassed all the fucking time about her hubby being overpaid. the problem with hockey cities is that people care way more than they should. the shitty thing about our situation is that vancouver is an elitist city and we've endured 20+ years of mediocre results on the ice and we want to be the best at everything.
