^ Flash this:
Optimal GPS settings for Galaxy Nexus CDMA - Galaxy Nexus - RootzWiki

Fixed immediately for me.
I'm on cm10-skankwich and it would take so long to lock on gps before.
Now I get a lock in about 5 seconds or less.

I check it using the GPSCompassMap app as well. I get 8/8 to 10/10 satellite locks consistently.

roastpuff 07-22-2012 01:16 PM

How do I flash that file? I'm using the Nexus toolkit but it won't recognize the zip.

GPS issue is supposedly caused by the recent solar flares and should be intermittent. Dunno if there's any truth to it.

Flash in cwm recovery

All this appears to do is updated the GPS servers used for AGPS. Guess there were incorrect servers in your ROM.

R5x 07-22-2012 01:30 PM

Yeah. Not sure what the rom base that everyone is on, but i know any cm10 based rom or any derivatives of it will have this problem without the patch. OTA-based roms should have proper gps already.

Doubt it. My GS2 had issues too, but it locked fine way before my Nexus did.

It seems to have fixed it... now to deal with the terrible touch detection on JB... :okay:

R5x 07-22-2012 01:55 PM

^I find that when I'm typing, sometimes the touch screen gradually becomes laggy and less responsive and misses words. Especially with swiftkey 3 sometimes.
Turning off the screen and turning it back on fixes it temporarily. It's been an issue since 4.0.4 apparently.

roastpuff 07-22-2012 02:09 PM

Yeah, that's what's been happening with me when I have Swiftkey on.

Also... JB has way worse wifi reception. Horrible. :(

I had the OTA update and it still had gps issues.

I compared the gps.conf file in the cm10 rom i'm using vs bigxie's OTA 4.1.1 rom. The two files are identical. Either something else in cm10/aosp based roms are screwed up or the stock ones can also benefit from this patch.

It'd be interesting to see if anyone else using OTA jb or derivative will also see improved gps performance from this patch. I know for sure I can see and lock on to way more satellites after patching.

I also compared with my 100% stock nexus7 gps.conf file. Seems the nexus7 uses completely different servers for gps. Nexus7 has no problems locking.

hongy 07-22-2012 03:02 PM

I'll test it out for you when I'm home. Still on bixie 4.1.1 rom and I'm getting locks within 10seconds

Armind 07-22-2012 03:06 PM

Using PA 1.9

Everything is smooth so far for me.

toggles don't work on tablet mode + gps doesn't lock location too well. CM10 to blame.

Strange. I'm using Bixie 4.1.1 OTA and have never had any GPS issues. I'm using Franco's kernel as well. I did flash a broadcom driver to fix my laggy BT but that should be unrelated.

Does anyone have a USB Jig I can borrow?! Just bricked my phone...

Anyone on Wind already get their Jellybean update?

DanHibiki 07-23-2012 11:08 PM

So now that jb is out, any apps take advantage of the new notification system and added some cool things?

As far as I know all Canadian Galaxy Nexus' come with YAKJUUX firmware meaning the updates come from Samsung. Therefore good luck on when you'll get the update. YAKJU which gets its updates from Google are the ones that are getting the Jellybean update. If you're ok with flashing roms you can convert your phone to YAKJU.

LOL. The ROM cooker doesn't even remember all the features and mods he implemented. The only benefit is it's a Franco endorsed kernel.

So I used the patch for a few days, and through GPSCompassMap I've gone from an 8/8 to a 10/10 sometimes 11/11. Locking is still near instantaneous.

What's the difference between franco kernels with 384 gpu and 512 gpu?

i thnk 512 gpu is overclocked.

as for GPS, i went back to the stock file as the new one didnt help me. Then I read to deactivate google location services, reset gps stats, and then enable google location services again, and VOILA it's working perfectly now. Apparently a bug with 4.1.1 on the server side? No need for a patch
