No experience with a Bose system...

Does your Bose accept HDMI in and has HDMI out? If so then simply run the HDMI cable through your Bose reciever then back to the TV. Then on the PS3 configure the audio to run through HDMI.

If not then do you have an optical cable? Connect to your PS3 and Bose receiver then once again set up your PS3's audio to Optical Out.

If not then use the PS2 RCA cable. Connect that to your PS3 and to your Bose system and once more configure audio to use RCA.

All else fails RTFM... that's what I do.

How do you explain "Hello World"....

Okay, all consoles use something called "signed code" which is a registered console thing that can only be established if you created an official game or program. Simply put, lets say it's an official game.

Now what people that create things such as "homebrew" do is run programs on the console that the console does not recognize. This is can be put as "unsigned code". Normally running unsigned code leads to crashes, errors or other unwanted effects. Using loops holes or system tweaks (like PS1/2 mod chips) a user is then able to run unsigned code (homebrew, custom XMB ((skins)), backed-up games.

Now when groups or people figure out a way to run "unsigned code" on a console they normally like to show off their hard work and create a very simple program called "Hello World". This pretty much does just as it's called and says HELLO WORLD on the console screen.

Even though this might be pointless it actually is quite revolutionary because it states a fact to the world that "homebrew" will be available soon after. Or in it's simplest form, backups of games.

Considering the CPU capabilities of the PS3 it would be amazing if it could run a smooth Linux. Then it would be able to run Windows emulation. IMO, even taking up processing power, it would be faster then any computer you could build for $600!

actually i got it working.. i hooked up ps3 hdmi to tv.. and i used the av cable just the sound cable and plugged that to my bose.. and changed the sound setting in the ps3 menu .. =) now i can enjoy my movies .. =)

it really depends on what he is using the system for. for me, the PS3 is far better than the 360 solely for the fact that it is a BR player.

in terms of a gaming system i'd say the PS3 is still wayyy behind even the wii strictly based on Twilight Princess

PS3 is amazing because of the technical specs but that is also it's draw back.

I think it's explained the best by the creators of the whole GT series. Back in PS1 glory, it took one person one day to spec out a car. For PS2 it became one person a week to spec out a car. Now with the PS3 it takes one person a whole month to spec out a car.

For the game creators to make a good game is a much lengthier process then compared with the Wii.

I see it as comparing a person making a you tube cartoon and a person making an anime.

Both people viewing are looking for entertainment, but when a person who looks on youtube for video they don't care about the quality.

It's the moment that counts for Wii. It's the longitivity for PS3.

I'd rather wait for another "Oblivion" for the PS3 then have them throw out more "Gundams" (I personally thought Gundam for PS3 was the biggggggggggggggest waste of money)

also keep in mind that (afaik) the wii is essentially the same system as the gamecube so in terms of developing for it all dev's had to do was change the control scheme and blamo, you got wii games.

The 80GB does not have PS2 hardware built-in, so if you plan on playing your PS2 games with it, many will not work. See here for more details:

Sony will go in the same way Microsoft did with the 360 and use a backward compatibility emulation....

so instead of ps2 games running on actual ps2 hardware on the ps3, it will emulate it instead.. theres hardly any difference.. in terms of visual and performance, although games will be glitchy and will just be improve and fix through firmware....

I have also never heard of this problem but it seems to me your bluray player is fried.

I will honestly say I have no idea what the problem is but have you tried using one of those "lens cleaner" discs? The same ones you'd use for a CD player.

Also, after you load the disc does it make the normal whurring noises?

I'd contact Sony if I were you. Hopefully they'll send you a trouble shoot that you can also post up for us.

Oh, one last thing you can try, official Sony PS3 forum. Some of those guys helped me out a lot when my PS3 disliked the new firmware update.

Metacritic doesn't do their own personal ratings, it gathers all the popular review websites *IGN, gamespy, ect* and averages it all out. Every big company uses metacritic to get an average of their own production and their competitions.

picked up EA's 08 NBA

its not bad....but during gameplay the graphics looks kind of....not that great?? during replays and other scene the character looks amazing, just kind of wish they smooth out the gameplay a bit more since each player moves kind of like a robot..

the GT5 demo is not very impressive at all...besides the in-car graphics i'm not really impressed at all as there seems to be little to no innovation over the GT4 game play, and perhaps even less improvment in graphics over the GT:HD demo

im a noob. i just bought my ps3 yesterday and i dont know anything about firmware update. where do i download them do i need them all or just the most recent ones. do i need to download them to my computer and the transfer it to my ps3 or do i just hook the ps3 up to the internet and then some how find it on there. and if you could post and pm me the answer that would be great. thank you so much to whoever answers my question.

Just connect your ps3 to your internet and goto System Update on the menu, it will download and install automatically.

funny thing this morning i went to EB with my friend to grab a copy of COD4

there is this white dude in his mid 50s in front of me

He grabbed like over 30 copies of PS2 games, 3 controllers, 6 Memory card, and 6 PS2s...and some other small shit..

I was standing behind him like WTF BBQ!!!! u buying all that shit all by urself? the dude had difficulty carrying it and the cashier was asking if he needs a hand....

all in all he whipped out 16 $100 dollar bill, total came to about $16xx....

LOL my buddy was telling me he must have come out of casino winning all those money, cuz tat wat he did last year with Gs in his pocket...haha

imo the only game that has really impressed me is heavenly sword, and all it is is a button masher

NHL08 is the only game I own, and it kinda speaks for itself, as i've been playing the EA NHL series for the last like 5 years fairly regularily

other then that, there's nearly 0 games i'm interested in buying, alot of them are the same genre, or just games which seem to be put out as "filler" the only game i'm contemplating buying is Simpsons

imo eventually the PS3 may take over with new and innovative games, but for now it's wayyyy behind the 360.

Nov 15 is the delayed release date. If you check on ign.com and gametrailers.com, it's being released on the 13th in the US so I highly doubt that it won't be available in stores on the 15th

Superstore will be having no GST/PST on Thursday/Friday. I think I will return my 3 days old 2nd PS3 and get it from Superstore instead. :)

I got Transformer HD converted and put on the PS3, the detail is amazing. Put it side by side with my original transformer DVD and u can tell the different.

COD4 is the best game ever. I can't wait for GT5 to come out. :)

im in the middle of that game 2 one problem is the checkpoints you can't save where you left off when you have to quit the game and then play it the next day it sends you back to the beginning of the missions...

Yeah I had that problem too. It isn't so bad, cuz there's checkpoint quite frequently. Annoying nonetheless, but still fun game. I really like the interface of the game, so much better than the older R6 games.

well a little off topic but i got AC for 360...

i have no gripes with the game, being a fan of Splinter Cell and all, this game makes me feel at home......... but despite that, AC is nothing like Splinter Cell

the games look absolutely nice, and it plays well

the game's combat system is very limited, once u draw ur sword, thats pretty much the combat u get in the game...

game reviewers mentioned where you have to hold 3 buttons to jump is true, but this will come to play much more natural once u get used the controls

AI is dumb, dumb to the point where sometimes you say yourself WTF, i killed a person in front of the guards and they spotted and chase me around, once i reach a corner and they caught up, they stop recognizing me and walk away............... then next thing i know i get chased again...

but its really a person's cup of tea, if you like Stealth games, this one will test your patience, yet you can always approach your kill anyway you want, stealth or public, as long as u live the game your fine

another renound Game Reviewer, Famitsu gave this game a 37/40

but if u want a much more reasonable review, just watch the Gametrailers review, they gave it a high score of 9s' but they show you the big criticism in the game.......

I am jumping on the Assasins Creed Defender bandwagon

and its crazy how AC is getting more buzz not because of the game but because of the mix reviews it got, its either high as in really high or low as in acceptable but not bad..

here is one of the headlines..

Plenty of review outlets have given Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed extremely favorable scores -- GamePro, GameSpot, GameTrailers, and Game Informer all scored the game at 90/100 or better. However, certain outlets found the game less appealing, and judged it as a 70/100 -- 1UP, EuroGamer, and GameSpy -- and Penny-Arcade's Gabe isn't buying what they're selling.

"If Assassin's Creed actually was a 7.0 game I'd tell you," said Gabe in Wednesday's news post. "I also want you to know that when I tell you it's fucking incredible I'm not bullshitting you because we're running ads for the game." He then goes on to comment specifically on the complaints he's read in various reviews:

Bad ending: "It was an extremely satisfying ending to this chapter of the game. Chapter is the important word here. This is a huge story, probably a trilogy at least. so games like Resistance and Heavenly Sword gets downgraded to 480p no matter what... because their maximum output is 720p..

im just asking about Uncharted because i read some stuff on Gamefaqs forum that despite the box say it only supports 720p, it actually display it too (or upconverts) to 1080i..

Ps3 doesnt have an upconverting chip like the 360 has

I'm pretty sure that since most games run at native 720p, when you select 1080i it scales from 720p, not 480p. There would be no reason to do otherwise.

have any of you guys defeated the Templars in a straight sword fight?

iv always snuck up behind and assasinate them

however, when you get to Jerusalem, or other cities, when you encounter a Templar, u cant even trick them by blending in.. they still spot u

i always get my ass whooped so i just book it to the closest hiding spots.. their insane to fight with..

they always detect me when i try to assasinate them straight up...so i end up killing them in sword fights...they key is to counter their attack then dice them when they're down.

whats up with killing the templars anyways? I dont think i can find all of them to kill too...

is there a way to 'find' them on the map?

is it a part of your mission?

i managed to assassinate a few in the beginning. but i think the other templars knew about their comrades getting killed thats why they are more cautious later on.

its a sidequest like the flags.

counters are effective as well. and yea, i killed them pretty easily after.

i pretty much took on the whole army in acre. cuz there were so many of them walking around at the time where i saved the old priest outside.

Ya i figured that the fight gets much easier once u gradually get all your skills back

although i still barley use the knife throws


i love it during rescuing a citizen when ur fighting the thugs and u attract more guards to fight, its just sooo bad ass, and then you throw them onto a pillar or a fruit stand and it just gets knocks down..

but ya, so far i find the game pretty easy

even after the chase fight after assasinating the target its still pretty easy....

they're hard to fight until you at least get your counter-kills. when you get the grab defense, they're even easier. I find the easiest thing to do is to throw them against a wall, and when they fall, hack the shit outta them. easy kill.

anyways i just beaten the game.. the last 2 "levels" were epic.. a definite thumbs up for me on this game. truely a next gen experience

my suggestion for those having a hard time with the sword fights, practice ur timing with counter very well

because you will need that desperately towards the end when the game pits you with tons of enemies...

i had no problem with the last couple of fights, i just felt like a bad ass slashing off 7 soldiers all at once using the back forth swing slash trick.. soldiers cant block that much momentum...

it gets really wierd at the end though........

I noticed there isn't an assassin's creed thread. so i'll just post in here. anyone experience random freezing in the game? like the character will just stop. camera control still exists, the game recognizes that you're pressing buttons, but nothing. start button doesnt do anything either.

u cant. u can only save when u get flags or randomly saving the civilians

do the slash and swing trick

basically u try to hit someone thats closes to you, then hit strike again but focus on the guy behind you, then swing again to the guy on your right or whomever is around you.. do this without pauses on the striking..

once you get more momentum with the slashing, your enemies wont be able to counter your hit and one slash kills them...


but beware, while your starting your slash momentum, get ready for some counter because enemies can strike you while your doing this....

anyone getting frame lag issues with AC? I get the feeling that the PS3 RAM is working it's ass off everytime i play this game. It framelags the most when you oberve from a view point. Otherwise it's not a big deal.

for a console thats been out for a year, one of its killer app for this year still looks like a first gen ps3 game

dont get me wrong, its an OK game but the graphics, meh Dead Rising did a better job with the model character

however there is some parts in Uncharted where the game looks great.. it looks like the game started development on ps2, and they switch it to Ps3, the game looks unbalance in some parts with the level design...

Cool, my brother was able to pick one up for me for 320, because of using a bunch of promotions at superstore (employee discount, 50 dollar off coupon, no tax for customers).

Warhawk is just an obscured online game........ well that is if you compare it to other multiplayer games

its strictly stand alone online game, no single player.... its fun for a short time, u'll be playing it alot, that is if u dont have a 360 or any other games for ps3.... i paid $35 for it when it was released at BB.. it came with a free blue tooth headset so its worth.. IMO, i wouldnt pay $60 for it, even if it came with a headset...


Here are some great titles for Ps3

Rainbow Six Vegas ( that is if u dont have a 360, the online experience is great... co-op)

Heavenly Sword ( try to find a used copy... its a short game so its not worth paying a full $60 for it)

Uncharted (Yes i complaint about this game, but its still a great title for a ps3........ at least my ps3 isnt collecting dust anymore)

Assassin's Creed (not a ps3 exclusive, if u dont have a 360, get this)

COD4 ( err.. with my experience with PSN and Xbox Live, im not being biased but Live is more user friendly when it comes to inviting and playing people that are on your friends list.. so again, if u dont have a 360, get it for ps3)

Ninja Gaiden Sigma ( great game...)


Resistance (online will keep you sane for awhile...its a first gen title so dont expect anything crazy)

I have HUGE framerate issues with that game! I can't stand it. the frame rate sucks and the image tears and shit.

I haven't been playing it cuz of this.

I don't think it's your PS3, ubisoft just did a shitty job on the PS3 version

The last boss is freakin hard and cheap as hell. You basically can beat him if you deflect his magic and use the speed stance. Took me like 5 tries but I did it :)
