That won't work because they require the barcode from the box.

Unless you already have a ps3 and take it off yours, and they don't put the serial on the reciept.

anyone experiencing system crashes? it happened a couple of times when i updated 2.0...but it was in XMB so i just reboot it.

today i was playing AC and all of a sudden my game crashes (using 2.01 at this point), tried to turn it off and it was in the turning off mode forever (flashing green light w/ HDD indicator flashing every second), so i just turned off my power supply from the back and turned it back on. it's functioning again. I know what i did was a pretty risky move , so any tips for how to handle the same situation if it arise in the future?

2.01 came out to patch up some bugs in 2.0... everything should be stable now.

I've heard that AC would crash the system if you play for it for too long (3+hours) because of memory errors or something... otherwise no, the new update 2.01 has been very stable as far as I know.

IMO Resistance online is garbage. It doesn't let you customize the controls like in the campaign mode. If you have to play inverted, you're stuck with the games gay ass button layout.

But not only tat, it is a really entertaining game, worth the money IMO, not so sure about rock band when it releases tho

i just got UT3, and i gotta say, im somewhat pleased and dissapointed at the same time


its still Unreal Tournament, which is to say, is still a fun game, my problem is that nothing much has change since UT2004

some level designs seems to be really unbalance while utilizing the Unreal engine, some levels and polygon details surpass Gears of War while walking into interior rooms in some levels seemed to be design from the last Unreal Engine

it was kinda wierd trying to go online this morning, lol because i couldnt, i got the impression i was the first person to get this game.. hahaha but finally got online

single player is a joke.. it has a really bland storyline, no where near the GoW story telling, each "mission" is nothing but a frag fest where u are pitted with bots, basically to keep it simple, the campaign is UT3 offline with bots..... and its not a tournament

its still a fun game, but i gotta say, wether its fair to compare, its no where as good as Halo 3 or Cod4 online


but iv only played this for a good hour, i still need to learn the maps, so might like it more down the road, well at least my ps3 will finally get a good action for awhile, after finishing Uncharted under 6 hours..:p

You just need a PSN account that says you live in Japan (with a real Japanese address, just google a place in japan like some hotel). There are also instructions on google with step-by-step instructions on how to set up the account since everything is in Japanese.

there is nothing wrong with UT3 controls with the sixaxis


in fact, its actually works almost perfectly, switching weapons is a fly, Epic Games did a good job with the control scheme

however, one thing thats really got me dissapointed is UT3's aging gameplay, due to the fact that very little has change since UT2004


also noting that Unreal Engine 3 here doesnt showcase UT3's graphics department, Epic Games did a much better job with GoW...


but other than that, im still digging UT3, just that it came out just as COD4 is freshly off conquering online gameplay, its overshadowing everything..

1, review on Fragfx (picking it up tomorrow at Burnaby BB. reading reviews on the web, half say it's pretty darn good, the other say it's a piece of crap that is poorly made and the mouse is really bad)

There are two components to the PS2 - the GPU and CPU. The original PS3 (60gb and 20gb) have both, so they can play these games natively, without any issues.

With the 80GB, they removed the CPU, but kept the GPU. So it can play PS2 games with the CPU being emulated by the PS3 hardware. Unfortunately, emulation accuracy is not very good as you can tell from my article.

With the 40GB, they cut costs massively, so it doesn't have any components from the PS2 at all. It is impossible at this time to emulate the PS2 with PS3 hardware alone.

Liking the look of Costco's bundle, - same as most other places' $400 40GB/Spider-Man3 bundle, but with a second wireless controller and Blu-Ray remote, for $480.

They have a similar package for the 80GB, $585 compared to the $500 most places have for the more basic bundle.

but not having the weight, is an awesome plus, as well as being wireless.

All HD-DVD and Blu-Ray rips are using MPEG-4 AVC (h.264) with an MKV (Matroska) wrapper. The PS3 does not support that wrapper. So in order to get it to work, you would have to transcode it to a format the PS3 will read (MP4, MOV, TS, AVI) or hope that the scene starts releasing rips that are more compatible (good luck).

BTW the PS3 now supports DivX, an MPEG-4 Part 2 codec. This does NOT mean that it will play XviD (also an MPEG-4 Part 2 codec). It will play DivX files and ONLY DivX files. Again, nobody on the scene uses anything but XviD for AVI files (for some stupid reason - DivX is actually superior in many ways) so once again, PS3 gets the shaft when it comes to trying to download and watch TV.

Hmm you're right, there are some 720p WMV rips out there, in the 4GB range. I have tested these with the 360, and they have always worked. I'll try the PS3 later today, now that it has VC-1 WMV support.

Most HD rips are in h.264 format using the Matroska container, which neither console supports (and I would bet anything that they never will).

oh btw the divx playback sucks on the ps3, it works but it doesnt look good. i dont think its upscaled and if it is well it looks bad. my standalone samsung player does a much much much better job

hey guys, i'm having a problem with one of my divx movies. the ps3 displays the movie length as 4 seconds when it's actually a 700mb file that's just over an hour and a half, but it only plays the first 4 seconds. haha anyone have any ideas?

I hooked my ps3 up to my plasma yesterday using a hdmi cable and when i tried to hook it back up to my projection tv using component cables it wouldnt give me any display. I even tried to change the display settings back to component before I unhooked the ps3 from the hdmi cable.

I've had my copy of NHL 08 since Oct 2007 and have played over 300 games online and it only froze on me ONCE.

For the past couple of days, though, the game seems to take longer to load (when connecting to EA's server) and a lot of games are quite laggy resulting in some very frustrated losses.... lol

I don't think it's the game or the system that's causing these slow loading times, it's probably EA's servers.

overall pretty decent game

fast moving pace game, downside is u are constantly wondering around in the big ass city looking for races, unlike need for speed carbon, u can still cruise around...and just use select option on the map and jump to the race instantly..or restart..but this race if u lose u have to drive all the way back

A lot of times i get lost......map is pretty big, a lot of tricky roads..

but definitely worth the money

As for shooters I like Raiden and R type style games. Hopefully lots of new games come out this year. Xbox360's game selection is killing us :(

Yeah I haven't played any DMC games yet but my brother borrwed a few from his friend for the ps2 and they looked pretty good.

As for the graphics looking better on the 360, I've noticed that for a few games as well. Espcially nhl 08. That game is amazing on the 360. I bought it for ps3 and was really dissapointed.

This is total horseshit. This proves nothing. Yes the ps3 is new, and it's hard to work on it because designs thing it's made from Alien parts. ^^ BTW, at about halfway into the comparison stop at where the weird girl lands on the ground then they show a up close in front of the camera. You can see how much better the self shadowing is on the ps3. For sharpness you have to give that to the 360 though, not but a lot, but a little.

I'm famously not a fanboy of either console (or a fanboy of both, depending on whether you're a fanboy or not). To be honest, 2 of those 4 games you mentioned that are as good on the PS3 are pretty much the only 2 that DO play as well on that console. Oblivion is the only other one that comes to mind.

That is why most people will simply assume that a game is going to play better on the 360. About 98% of the multiplatform titles that have been released in the last year play far better on the 360. Can you blame someone for thinking that most new games will as well?

Of course, development is starting to improve on the PS3, especially from Japanese studios where the PS3 is populat (only because the 360 is so unpopular).

I'm not saying that this game or that game is definitely better on the 360. But more often than not it's the safest bet if you're not sure.

Personally, I believe I will not pick this game up as it is REALLY BAD when compared to God of War. The actions are forced and the camera angles are REALLY BAD. I actually laughed when Nero performed a fugly looking jump about 1 minute into the demo, when it was necessary to jump from a broken stairs.

Exactly, I totally agree. The only thing i said originally was " It's a rumor, let's wait for the final game before making judgments". Then a picture comparison was posted in response to my statement, implying that the rumor is in fact, TRUE.

That's what ticked me off.

For those wondering, DMC4 is slightly better on the 360 - the PS3 requires some blurring to maintain high framerates with 2XAA enabled. Other than that, textures are the same, etc. 360 will have sharper edged overall.

sorry dude, even I have to say something about this.... you won't see any major differences if you're playing in 480i, regardless how big your screen/TV is.

You'll need at least 720p to really make a fair and accurate comparison.

Just bought a PS3 yesterday. Got it from Best Buy with the 2 Tom Clancy games. I got everything hooked up, but i haven't been able to hook up the wireless internet. Didn't realize so many problems tryin to hook up to Linksys routers (mines WRT54G). Anyone else have this problem before? I've googled and tried the Linksys website and couldn't find a solution that worked.

change your routers MTU size to 1400, default is set to 1500 if you havent changed anything. it sped things up for me alot when joining/searching games.

the game kicks ass, however, i always find the series really high in difficulty settings, especially the first one

although not in the same vein of difficulty as Ninja Gaiden..
