For all those wondering about plans: Read this in my news briefings today.

Rogers:
The company's average wireless customer paid C$60.26 a month, up from C$59.91 in the previous quarter, but down from C$63.27 a year earlier, while data revenue grew 31 percent.

Called at lunch and after work. They said they're upgrading the system. Lol both times they were like it'll be done in 2 hours.

Need help deciding on a phone, renew my contract today and they offered me the SGS CAPTIVATE or the NEXUS S for free with rebate...so i went ahead with the sgs not knowing anything about the nexus...What would you guys have pick? they said i still have 15 days to exchange it if i don't want it..

so my new plan is

300 daytime mins
unlimited incoming
unlimited eve/weekend start at 6
call id/voice
unlimited text,picture/videio message
100 mb of data

for 44.64 with tax

Its a tough call, the phones are similar. I picked the Nexus S cause it has a camera with a flash, yet was leaning towards the Captivate cause I think it has a SD card slot. Regardless both are great very similar phones.

You can get more data than that, ask for 500. Both phones are basically the same.

So.....just today...I figured out I have unlimited MSG. Including SMS MMS Email IM Video. Yes I am this retarded because I never thought I would use these all.

My plan is a business plan that my mom has at UPS. Fought over it a long time because there were some dealer issues with the head office. Probably has a stack of notes on my account because I have been yelling at them to get the plan I want at the price that was advertised with dealer that gave it to UPS employees (and kind of family members which still work)

Plan sits at:
150 weekday
unlimited after 6 and weekends
unlimited text messaging, messaging etc
call forwarding
call waiting
caller id

Price: $28/month

Problem lies where I used to have a Nokia with IM (Instant messaging) and I can MSN on my phone but I can't use Mobile Mail. No worries, at the time I don't need email because I can check it at home. Then switched to a blackberry 9000 and lost IM because "the servers are different". Alrightey.....but then today I figured why don't I give it a shot after seeing email...so I tried it and it didn't work. Since I dont even use or almost no one uses email, mms (like wtf just use whatsapp), or video.....I was wondering if I can fight for cancelling all these for data. Had the plan for about a year now from a 3 year contract. What do you guys think?

CRS 08-04-2011 12:36 AM

You're liking going to get penalized for getting out a data plan early. Not sure how your plan is integrated but if it is an add-on, you're going to have to pay extra to have it cancelled and reduced.

BaoTurbo 08-04-2011 12:47 AM

But seriously I have all these functions, yet they don't work. Honestly do I need to be on MSN 24/7? No I don't even log on. Do I need email badly? I still want data over email. MMS? No one uses MMS and it needs to be a mutual thing or else the other has to pay. Video messaging? Hell, I don't even use the camera that much let alone the video. Unlimited SMS? I barely use 2500 and no one SMS anymore, they whatsapp or bbm.

If they fix this shit, then maybe I'll be satisfied, but in the meantime out of all the fucking stuff I have, I can only use SMS and frequently use. See what they can do....

ecchiecchi 08-05-2011 12:56 PM

200 weekday

Unlimited Text
2500 Call fowarding

I talked to them about the useless crap I don't need. The tech guy agreed with me but the sales dep didn't. Said it is a bundle and I can't modify the plan itself only add ons. 25 bucks more for 500mb of data. Basically they are telling me to come back to them 2 years later when the contract is up or pay them more money for a better plan, way more money.

Any tips on how to negotiate to get the 6GB data for $25?

ecchiecchi 08-06-2011 02:08 PM

But did you already have data? If so, how much and what was it costing you?

I had a 500mb plan before, 250 mins and unlimited everything else. Was getting that for $58+tax.

I signed a 3 years contract last year with Rogers to get a free xperia x10. So about 10 months in? I just recently transferred to rogers too.

tomatogunk 08-08-2011 09:15 AM

I remember when I was 3 months into the contract I called the retention department and this is what I have now:

200 anytime minutes
unlimited texts
unlimited evenings/weekends starting at 5
caller id
voice mail
500mb data plan

$36.32 all in with taxes :D

shenmecar 08-08-2011 09:29 AM

I recently did the same thing. My account was under my dad's name before too. I went to a Rogers retailer to get it changed to my name. Apparently, you cannot just RENAME an account. They had to close the account under my dad's name, then copy and paste everything into a NEW account that they create on the spot under my name. All credits do carry over. You may need to call in to add it back if it doesn't show up after your first bill with your new account. (Which is what I did)

If you have a previous bill, I would hang on to that until you get your first new bill, just to argue any discrepancies. For my case, their system overcharged me on a several things and didnt give me my credit that I had before. Although a call to Rogers fixed everything.

Oh and one more thing, you will likely do this in a middle of a billing cycle. Which means the account that gets cancelled will get credited back whatever money is left from the unused days. You will need your dad to call in to get that money back, either by returning it to the credit card or by cheque. They can't transfer the money to another account.

anyone have luck with the change in HUP?
I was going to upgrade today, as I'm 2 years into my contract, and was told that the HUP is now 30 months, not 24 months. The rep at the store told me to call Rogers to have it waived.
So I did, and the cheeky CSR phone rep told me, "if it's not in your contract, we can't honor it". And of course, it's not in the contract, it was just relayed to me by CSR reps both in store and on the phone.
Am I SOL?

mr_chin 08-10-2011 01:08 PM

I called today but I don't know if I was connected to the retention department or not. Dialed *611, pressed 4, 1, 3 and was transferred to a representative.

Anyways, my current plan is the BB plan.

100 weekday minutes + 100 bonus weekends
unlimited evenings (9pm) and weekends
unlimited txt messages, mms, videos, pics, etc.
and the mumbo jumbo call forwarding stuff
500mb

$58.63 taxes in

1 year left on my contract and for the last 2 years, I barely even use any minutes because everything was bbm/txt

Now i wanna upgrade my data and the lady said I have to renew my contract for another 3 years. WTF? Now I'm thinking, if I'm gonna sign another 3 years, does that mean I can get another phone from them for a 3 year term price?

dkvby 08-11-2011 02:28 PM

Called today to added the Can/US data and the rep put the discount as monthly fee discount, i guess i can call them later and ask for data discount or just cancel the data for 100 and make the voice plan for $5 bucks lol

$25 - 250DT/Unlimit after 8pm, CID. Free 100 texts and 100 Canadian LD mins
-$10 monthly fee discount
-$10 monthly fee discount

$35 - 500mb Can/US data

Total $40+grrf+taxes

Does Rogers offer any deals better than their website for new customers? Retentions only work if you are a long time customer right?
