Anyways, my current plan is the BB plan.

100 weekday minutes + 100 bonus weekends
unlimited evenings (9pm) and weekends
unlimited txt messages, mms, videos, pics, etc.
and the mumbo jumbo call forwarding stuff
500mb

$58.63 taxes in

1 year left on my contract and for the last 2 years, I barely even use any minutes because everything was bbm/txt

Now i wanna upgrade my data and the lady said I have to renew my contract for another 3 years. WTF? Now I'm thinking, if I'm gonna sign another 3 years, does that mean I can get another phone from them for a 3 year term price?

Definitely not retentions dept then.

Got some sick plan with the BB torch...recently sold it and got a brand new iphone 4...

Plan goes:
500 weekday minutes
unlimited evenings after 6pm and weekends
unlimited txt messages, mms, videos, pics, etc.
call forwarding/waiting
call id/voicemail
6gb data

58 after taxes.

Only had to pay 5$ more for my data to go from 500mb to 6gb. They are having some promotion for data...30$ for 6gb. :D

Better deals their the ones they advertise? I don't think so.

Retention only for long time customers? Not necessarily. It is for their current customers but you would need to have been with them for some time. Something like 1-2 years is enough.

For the most part, yes. However, some stores might have a promotion specifically for that branch only

I called retentions 3 months into the contract (last year) and got a heck of a deal with it. Not sure if they changed their policy now though

OTG-ZR2 08-16-2011 10:55 AM

A lot of good tips here, I am going to caller Rogers tomorrow,

I renewed my contract 16 months ago for a BB bold. they replaced it once and now the phone is crapping out, speakers stop working, vibration function seems to be on its last leg. no pyshical damage. just all software related.

I was told in store and by retentions that I have to wait another 15 months before i can upgrade.

My monthly bill has averaged $120 a month for the last 4 years.

you would think, but I have nothing but problems when I call even when I am being nice.

Alatar 08-16-2011 10:23 PM

For $120/mo, the cancellation fee of $500 ($400 for voice, $100 for data) doesn't seem all that bad.

I pay $75 taxes in, with 1gb data and the north america unlimited calling/texting plan. And even I've considered walking away from Rogers.

gnat. 08-19-2011 10:57 AM

you guys have any tips to talk to retention? they tried matching plans for me but "failed to find anything that matched my plan" and i'm paying $77 atm after tax....

300 minutes, unlimited eve/wk after 6pm, voicemail & call id, unlimited msging, 500mb, call forwarding...

they asked me to give them an example plan that they can match with... and try to call back again..
i'm trying to get the 6gb for 30$ but they told me i would be paying $100/month b/c i'm currently not paying for the 500mb, it's included with the Blackberry Business plan, blah blah blah.... help pls!

Teh Doucher 08-19-2011 11:13 AM

why do you need the 6gb data plan? are you going to be tethering?

gnat. 08-19-2011 11:22 AM

why not have 6gb of data? it's on promotion! plus, this way i don't gotta worry about streaming and going over data... i no longer use my blackberry. currently using the samsung gs2

Teh Doucher 08-19-2011 12:39 PM

well you didnt state that before, so ya i guess it does make some sense. because with a blackberry, i've never gone anywhere near 500mb a month.

gnat. 08-19-2011 12:44 PM

but also, having 6gbs for only $30 is nice! in case you decide to switch phones but keep the same plan!

I was a bell customer maybe 5 years ago. Before i moved to Rogers, i knew about rententions and the possible savings. So i took a 1 year contract with them. After the 1 year was over, I called retentions and negotiated my current BB plan :fullofwin:

shenmecar 08-22-2011 08:24 AM

just got off the phone with rogers retention

they offered me a 29+tax plan for

300 mins
unlim after 6 and weekends
unlim text
voicemail
call display

Honestly, its not the best plan I've seen. The lady said it was the best promotion plan they currently have and that she is giving already a $14 credit to this plan......(i smell bs)

I was using the Telus Voice 25 plan (same as above) to bargain with Rogers. She said Rogers could not match the price..........

I plan to call in again to see if it will make a difference with another rep...........any tips guys???

Its really luck of the draw.

But according to RFD, the deals are getting less and less enticing.

shenmecar 08-22-2011 06:12 PM

jesus, i jumped onto it after calling back tonight.

the lady said this time that these promo plans changes every month.....which means the only hope i have now to get a better deal is to call back again later to see if a new and better one is out.

Rogers Retentions have seriously tightened up lately. Not sure whats up but I was trying to renegotiate my bro's plan and couldn't get anything like I got last year when I re-did my 3 year contract.

hellyeah08 08-25-2011 02:02 PM

how do u guys negotiate?
I called today and asked to cancel the plan, hoping they'd offer something.
the guy asked why, i told him Im paying close to $70 for some ball crap
the guy was like......okie, i'll let u cancel! LOL!
im like...............................
okie.......dont u wanna do anything about it? giving me a better deal etc?
guy was like.......cant do!! unless U do contract!

FMLLLLLLLLL

Alatar 08-25-2011 05:08 PM

You... expected to get a deal... without doing a contract term of 2-3 years?
:seriously:

JayEch 08-25-2011 06:12 PM

ohh i always thought retentions was if u are on them. Say if u were with them for 5 years without a contract you wouldnt get retentions?

Tapioca 08-25-2011 07:39 PM

My contract is ending in December. This is currently what I have:

17.50 EPP - 200 minutes/Unlimited Evenings and Weekends at 6PM
$30 Blackberry Value Pack - 500 MB, 10K texts, voice, caller ID

I have $17 in credits so I basically pay 37.50 plus taxes and SAF. I talked to someone in Customer Relations last week and I asked about renegotiating, but the rep wouldn't budge and only offered to change my plan from the old SAF to the GRF. So my next bill should be about $45. I'm not unhappy with Rogers (been a customer since 2004), but I wonder if I can really do better? I never use close to 500 megs per month and because I have my own phone at the office, I have never exceeded 200 daytime minutes per month. If I call again and try to negotiate for something better, what I can realistically hope to get? Unlimited incoming minutes? A few long distance minutes?

The one thing that is pulling me to stay with Rogers is the Bold 9900. I'm a loyal BB user and once I saw the dummy phone in-store, I wanted it.

Alatar 08-25-2011 09:55 PM

If you don't use much data, and can get what you're saying by switching to the GRRF, that actually isn't that bad at all. If you're not using the data, don't go and try to get more that you won't use but will just pay more for. You should be able to do an HUP to the 9900 though, if your contract's coming up in December.
