eBay or RS is probably better than craigslist, as there's a feedback system in place. That being said, a used and already-unlocked iPhone is what you want, not a new one (at least not until it's properly unlocked).

Best version at the moment is one running 1.1.1 firmware and below (as you can upgrade to 1.1.1). A HyperSIM is a special SIM that has carrier data programmed into it, in the iPhone's case, usually AT&T. You combine it with the chip in your normal SIM and you get a SIM that will work on your original SIM's network (say, Rogers) while tricking the locked phone you're using it in into thinking that you're on the locked network (i.e. AT&T).

im planing to pick up an iphone from LA in a few days i was wondering does anyone if they took down all the 1.1.2 iphone and replace it with 1.13 yet?

hmm so i recently got back into modding my iphone again... i tried using ibrickr to load up some ringtones today. but when i go to play them.. they sound nothing like the original. just a *click click* then stops.

i remember the last time i uploaded ringtones everything was fine.. i tried a few other short mp3's i had and they worked properly, but just a few don't seem to budge. any insight on how i can get them to work? it's the "one missed call (us version)" ringtone i'm trying to upload, so maybe you guys can do a quick search for it and tell me how it goes.

im having problems with wifi

it connects everywhere else but when im at home, it connects to my network but does not show the wireless bars or work on the net.

Nope, I mean that the HyperSIM thing might be defective itself while your iPhone remains fine.

So your previously-uploaded ones work? If that's the case, maybe the encoding's a bit off on your new MP3s. Re-encoding them to 192kbps constant bitrate might help, or use iTunes to convert them to AACs, but that gets messy if you're just doing ringtones. :D

I use dBpoweramp on my PC. It's a really flexible program, and worth every penny. Integrates into Explorer so I just right-click any audio file and click "Convert to" and convert away. :p

1.1.2 unlock is coming soon! Software unlock right around the corner apparently. The news is on Engadget, and the original Geohot has a hardware unlock for 1.1.2 out now.

check the 4th and 5th digit on your serial number it tells you what week it was made. anything before 45th week is 'relatively' safe to have 1.0.2 or 1.1.1 installed. so go hunt if your desperate for a new unlockable iphone.
