Darthchili whats the deal with paranoidandroid anyway?

Is it just a hybrid tablet/phone rom?

its basically a hybrid phone/tablet rom
the options to set different DPI for certain apps and to the system itself is amazing

somethings such as gmail and contacts just look and function better in tablet mode

Awwww, so none of you have calibrated your screen?
I find it pretty awful. I did some calibration, it's better now but still room for improvement.
I've also noticed that if I open chrome browser for example (basically whatever shows a almost all white screen), for a split second the screen will show a bright white then the white turns dull/grayish.

Try either AOKP or cm9 with one of the kernels that use colorcontrol (ie. Franco) or a cm9-based kernel (ie. cmplus). Both allow you to adjust gamma and gamma profiles and also allow you to fine tune the color multipliers. I also use voodoo display (http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...5&d=1336289273) made by Supercurio who was responsible for many voodoo audio/video mods on the original nexus S. The cold setting in this app makes the whites look a lot less yellowish/off white. May require a rooted phone though and I'm not sure if it's compatible with every rom/kernel combo.

Anyway, any one tried changing the housing yet?
It's looks like an easy process but there are no white housing available yet on eBay, except the one from eBay Germany which cost ~$100 after conversion:blueguy::blueguy:

I replaced my scratched up stock housing with this one last week: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/251012951025?...84.m1439.l2649
Perfect fit, identical to stock and even came with a case removal tool and small magnetic screwdrivers. Really easy to take apart this phone's casing (youtube'd it). My phone looks brand new again now.

I am too looking for white housing and hopefully something comes up soon

!MiKrofT 06-19-2012 06:43 PM

It's a really easy swap. I saw a youtube video of someone doing it.

Just screws and then pick your way to snap the case off
sourcing the white is difficult

Yup, I'm aware that's it's easy to change housing. Already youtubed it before looking for housing. lol.
Hard part is to find an affordable white housing.

And thanks kb08. I'll try to go back to the AOKP rom next week or so to try the franco kernel.

Can anybody recommend me any good apps?

Plus how long does your battery last for and... Daily use for data per month?

Mine will last the day with a single charge.

Probably could be a lot better but I'm content with it.

!Yaminashi 06-19-2012 09:37 PM

I can get over 24 hours depending on how I use it.

Android Transfer Module is horrible
use Solid Explorer with an FTP
or make sure the phone isnt sleeping when using ATM

Peturbo 06-19-2012 10:30 PM

Ooh solid explorer looks nice.. It's ICS themed. I'm currently using ES File Explorer which I think is also quite comparable.

So I got my Nexus a couple weeks ago... On the advice of good ol' Chilli here, I installed Paranoid Android and Linaro chain (189 384). Snappy, sweet, fun. Looking forward to the battery life changes that'll happen with these tweaks. Previously, I was getting most of a day out of my phone, though I am admittedly a heavy user.

Joquio, I didn't have any major complaints about the screen, especially after I compared it against one of my former-students' blue-tinted GS2s. Having now installed PA (which is based on Cyanogenmod) and adjusted my screen to CM's spec...holy jesus frak it's a night and day difference.

Plus, PA's ability to switch between tablet and phone interfaces is just awesome. I'm having so much fun with that.

!Yaminashi 06-23-2012 07:49 AM

Damn I might try paranoid when I get home

joquio 06-23-2012 09:11 AM

Hey Graeme S, mind sharing your calibration?
I did some tinkering, it better but still not sure if the colours are right.

TIA!

I did my calibration on the stock CM kernel; seems that once you install the Linaro kernel they want you to buy their utilities app to modify that kind of stuff.

Honestly, I just clicked the "CM Recommended" or whatever it was button. It changed things radically.

No problems here. Do you mean when the entire screen is black or you see lines in black areas of the video on certain parts of the screen? I watched the black parts of the top gear intro and didn't see anything. Blockiness is usually to due with video compression.

sorry to reply old posts
when i watch .mkv 1280x720 in dimly lit rooms using mx player i still see blockiness in the black areas of the videos.
i'll try to see if '100%' fit or 'fit to screen' makes a difference next time.

even look at the canyon static wallpaper that came with the default android OS i see a bit of blockiness as well

is this normal?

It's "normal" for a lot of the new hd samoled screens. A lot of ppl on xda notice it too and I had the same problem with mine.
Samoled screens vary a lot when it comes to calibration from the factory. The gamma and contrast are often too high and dark scenes in movies end up looking poor and expose a lot of artifacts.

The "fix" for this is to use a kernel or rom with color control options and decrease the gamma or contrast or both. Fixed/masked the issue for me.
