:werd: btw my friend has a bonus size of 1mr for sale.

Matlock 11-09-2010 12:37 PM

Squats yesterday, deadlifts today. I'm really loving going to Gold's, just because there is so much space and no congestion, I get to work whatever the hell I want in the free weights area. :Pbjt: Well worth the moneys.

If any of you guys want to fool around with bumper plates I would recommend checking out Hastings Community Center. That's the old gym I used to go to when I wanted to be alone.

StealthFighter 11-09-2010 12:38 PM

For all of you too lazy to shop online, popeye's is having their 15% off everything sale this friday and saturday.

didn't know hastings had bumper plates. one my training partner goes there. it sucks doing heavy oly lifts and not being able to drop the barbell.

jeffh 11-09-2010 01:08 PM

i put matts down when i do deadlifts, reduces the noise a tonne

Question. My lower back hurts when I deadlift so I have swithced to dumbell deadlifts. I clearly can't do as much weight, but I feel a very similiar effect in terms of difficulty. It feel better on my back, but I was wondering whats everyone opinions on them? Better or worse then regular deadlifts? Any of you guys alternate between the two?

SkinnyPupp 11-09-2010 05:30 PM

It's a good idea to alternate between single leg dumbbell. For those that aren't doing it already, give it a try for a while. I guarantee your barbell deadlift #'s will go up.

rslater 11-09-2010 06:33 PM

Perferably like this?

SkinnyPupp 11-09-2010 06:35 PM

Yup, exactly. You could use Dumbbells too. Make sure to keep the back straight, not rounded. That guy was rounding just a bit

Dude, this shit is hard! I tried doing them with 25s and looked like an idiot!
Finally was able to do like 5 reps with 20s LOL.
Works out basically every part of your arm though. Really good workout. Thanks

DB deadlifts are very similar to trapbar deadlifts, naturally you will be able to lift more and it is almost impossible to injure yourself because proper form will come to you more easily. The weight will be positioned to your sides rather than infront of you.

However, I suggest you don't neglect Barbell deadlifts. When I was a complete newb I was really weak and did strain my back once or twice, but through many hours of training I got the form nailed down. Get someone to spot you once in a while and work on your form above all, don't worry about weight until you're confident. Keep your abs tight.

oh really? SHIT! thats why everyone was looking at me!?!

:D

theres a difference between bringing the weight down quickly and "bouncing" it

i dont feel that working a negative is good for form atall on a DL, im no expert tho

RRxtar 11-09-2010 09:39 PM

working negatives while DLing HEAVY is a great way to hurt yourself. its too hard to keep form. heavy DLing is about pulling a ton of weight. you dont have to throw the bar down... control your lowering, but dont work too hard at it.

and you're an idiot if you bounce deadlifts anyway, you should take a good solid gulp of air at the bottom before your next pull or you're going to end up face first in the rack if your repping anymore than 4s.

working negatives while DLing lighter weights is fantastic for stability tho.

I use mats too because we dont have bumper plates or a platform.

and here all this time i thought they were looking at you because you were the only guy in the gym deadlifting twice his bodyweight while everyone was doing curls.

SkinnyPupp 11-09-2010 10:12 PM

BTW if you're not doing Hack Squats yet... DO THEM!

i do legs on that day, i only do 2 workouts now and one day break

Lolkai 11-09-2010 11:43 PM

when i do DL's i get down to bout1 inch off the ground then up again.
Is it better to let the weight touch the ground then go for another rep?

sTi-K 11-10-2010 12:05 AM

^ "Deadlift" so yes let it touch the ground and then up again.
