Call rogers and let them know that you're looking into cancelling your plan and inquiring about the cancellation fee. At this point they would ask you why. You will let them know that you found a really good plan to takeover which will save you some money.
They will usually transfer you to customer service at this point.
Customer service will be asking where you found the plan and what the plan is (they will try to match it). Just make up a plan with features and price to that of your liking. Don't be too greedy and add in a bunch of features at a really cheap price, no one is going to believe that. Be reasonable. Make sure that the "new plan" will be providing you value and monthly savings. And if you're looking to get a phone, let them know that the new plan will come with a free/discounted phone too.
At this point, they would be trying to match the plan and try to get you to "stay." This will be your chance to bargain and to get a good deal out of this. Good luck

In case you're wondering here is my plan:
150 daytime minutes
6 pm evenings/weekends
unlimited text messages
voicemail
caller id
6gb data

$45 taxes included.
I have credits to my bill for a total of $35. When the credits expire, I would just have to call in and have them renew it until the end of my term. I also have 50% off of the early upgrade fee ($100 - 50%)

Used this method:
Retentions said that plan was rather :suspicious:
however, I did get offered for $50
-1gb LTE data
-unlimited local calling
-unlimited texting
-voicemail
-caller id

As well, I banked in on a promo that they were doing and scored a Nokia Lumia 920 for $4.88 with 100 dollar shopping channel gift card

was able to upgrade my moms line to an iphone 5 2 weeks ago with a $143 early hardware upgrade fee waived and a 16gb iphone 5 for $179.

saw today that the iphone 5 is on for $79.99 with a 3 yr activation, so called retentions directly and asked if they could credit my mom $100 since it was only 2 weeks ago that we got the upgrade and they obliged.

im happy :)

kchan 12-24-2012 09:52 PM

had 10 months left on my contract

got a free note 2 but only kept my 6gb lte super plan + free caller id
$60 + tax

$35 fee waived

good x'mas gift to myself

where did you see the price at?

I see note 2 for free at best buy, and I signed 3 years less than a month ago. 3 weeks to be exact, wondering if they would waive/credit me my money.

Broke my iPhone4s a couple of weeks ago, which makes it exactly 24 months left on my contract. Called robbers to see my options. The rep was a total beatch and I was pissed. I've been with Rogers for over 12 years!!!

I called a couple of days later to pay the $500 to cancell my phone. It was a matter of pride now. This rep was wayyyy nicer. Offered me $150 for an early upgrade fee instead of $300 and $50 credit for my new phone. I told him I'll consider it.

Called again a few days later to ask if thats the best they can do. After being on hold for 10mins she came back and offered to waive the $150 early upgrade fee and $35 the activation fee. Plus the $50 credit for a new phone. Also she matched the fido plan wit 2g data unlimited calling, blah blah blah for $57. I was extremely pleased and got a new Rogers samsung s3 a few hours later for $0. :fullofwin:

F rogers, my cousin whos been paying like $60+ per month with zero usage 10 months of the year since hes not even in Canada called in and wanted to down grade his plan. He was offered a $30ish plan, but he needed to sign a 3 year contract to get it :rukidding:

anyways within the last 2 months my family cancelled 6 of their rogers lines :lawl:

Mr.JDM 12-26-2012 01:32 PM

- 1 of the account got them to waive the HUP fee. that was when the note2 was @ $99

called again today to see if they can do something about the futureshop boxing day note2 deal. and she did it for 49.99 but there was a $50 credit so it works out to be $0

I called 4x today trying to get this deal for $50, but was denied everytime. Eventually they came down to $55, but i have to pay:

$150 - Note2
$135 - Early Handset Upgrade
$35 - Activation Fee.

And i only have 10 months left on contract.

Each time i phoned the reps were being unhelpful and not willing to work with me.

** i tried the cancellation route and they were ready to let me go ** lol

Any advice?

BaoTurbo 12-27-2012 01:53 PM

10 months? i got 8 months and they offered me note 2 for $229+$60 super plan. but i denied it cuz i got my work phone plan on a different phone lol

NLY 12-27-2012 01:53 PM

Just got off the phone with rogers.

Unlimited Canada Wide Calling
Unlimited Texting including MMS
Caller ID
Visual Voicemail
100 us/international texts
3GB LTE Data

$50 + tax a month

Got a Samsung Note 2 for free plus they waived my $280 hardware upgrade fee (I upgraded to an iPhone last October but it broke a couple months ago and I've been using my older blackberry) and also waived $35 admin fee.

After getting PM's regarding how I got this deal, I'll just leave me reply here.

Sometimes it's just about getting the right rep. I always start with customer-care and start the conversation with asking how much my cancellation fee would cost if I decided to cancel services today. The rep will usually ask you why and you can respond with other carriers offering more lucrative monthly deals and 9/10 times, you'd get transferred to retentions.

Once you get to retentions, you can reiterate the same statement asking how much the cancellation fee would cost. The retentions rep is the one individual who can apply credits to your account, so be respectful and realistic with your demands.

There is no "formula" as to how I got my plan, but I'll tell you I called numerous times before I was offered that deal. One thing that roger's retention reps' lack is consistency, there have been moments where I've been denied any discounts, but I've been paired with some reps who were generous with credits. Don't give up if you weren't offered your exact deal, you can let the rep know to leave a "note" on your account and that you'll think about it. One thing I would mention is being respectful and courteous goes a loooooong way.

I would encourage you call back and try your luck again.

Been on hold with Rogers for a while now. My Captivate finally bit the dust (dropped it and fubared the power button). Thought about porting to Fido but I'm going to see if Rogers is willing to match their deal along with getting a new phone.

I'm assuming I'd have better luck dealing with retentions rather than normal customer service? Or do the regular customer service people have the ability to PM Fido?

+1

i had 10 months left on my contract

asked how much to cancel out,
told them Telus was doing Note 2 for $50 before the samsung rebate

rep gave me the phone free, $35 fee waived

however I couldnt get a better plan than my current 6gb lte super plan ($60) which is fine

just be nice to the rep, dont initate on wanting better plans. make them initate to "save" you and you will get a good offer (eventually) :fullofwin:

Retentions is definitely better than regular reps. They have the ability to add credits where regular reps are useless. Sometimes retentions call themselves "Customer Relations"

Yeah, they ended up transfering me to Customer Relations. Got myself a new Galaxy3 with all fees waived. Also got the Fido plan, but on a 3gb instead of 2. Added a couple extra bucks, but meh. I wasn't calling in to get an outrageous plan, so I'm happy with what I got. That said, ask me again in a few months and I might tell a different story... :lol

Damn, I must have got a bad rep. He would not match the Fido or Virgin $56 plans. He only gave my wife the equivalent at the same rate that she is paying now at $72

hsh4 12-27-2012 09:14 PM

After 2 hours got
-1gb LTE data
-unlimited local calling
-unlimited texting
-voicemail
-caller id
$50 and since my 4 yr contract is over its an extension so no term contract :)

racerman88 12-28-2012 09:25 AM

Does it make a difference as to what time I call in? I have been calling in around 8pm so that I would be the last customer for the detentions csr hoping to get better results.
Didn't work last night.
