Usually they're downloaded to the Download folder on your phone's memory. There should be an apk file in there.
Usually the updates should install on their own though after you press Apply.

Thats what I thought would happen too, I hit apply and it downloaded the package, but when I booted into recovery I couldnt find the file. Anyway, I went back into the kitchen app and hit the menu button, and there was an option for browse/install and thats how I ended up installing the theme. In the end it all worked out :D

I noticed that BLN is an available mod. Which kernel will run that?

Can anyone help me out? Thanks in advance.

Are you doing this from within Recovery mode or using CWM app?
Are you backing up to the phone's internal memory or an external sd card?

I believe Siyah kernel has BLN support. Then I assume you just download the kitchenapp for BLN and configure it and it should work with the stock messenger. Not sure if it works with any third party sms apps.

Are you guys running checkrom and the dark knight kernel together?? Which one do you flash first? And do you flash the kernel just like the rom in recovery?

I'm running checkrom with siyah 2.6.2.
Flash checkrom first, then download the kernel pack from kitchenpro (included with checkrom)

I installed everything using kitchenpro. If you use the browse/install option like I did, it basically reboots automatically into CWM recovery mode and installs what you selected.

Simplex123 12-30-2011 10:56 AM

Oh I see it's all in checkrom already thanks!

Gh0stRider 12-30-2011 11:03 AM

I did checkrom then dark Knight after.

Install noled. It'll light up the screen with some dots for notifications. Most of us used bln. Lights up the softkeys when a message comes in. Although you need a customer kernel for that.

Hey guys, I just received a SGS2 for xmas. Its my first android phone and I'm trying to root it. Just have a question regarding the kernels. My Kernel is ZSKI3. I'm at the xda site (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1103399) and i noticed that there are two zip files that match my phone, one says unsecured. Does it matter which one I should use in Odin? Also i'm not sure if its my computer, but when i unzip the kernels downloaded from the site using winzip OR winrar, the extracted file still shows another zipped file. Will this be ok to load onto Odin? I've seen some online youtube tutorials and it seems that people can actually get the .tar file icon after extracting?

So why do you guys really upgrade to a custom firmware on the sgsII? I mean I had a sgsI (i9000m) for a year and a half. I probably changed rom's on a biweekly bases with that... but I just picked up a i9100m on boxing day and fuck is it fast. I can't imagine it being much faster.. and the battery life is way better then I've expected. I've been working a night last night, had my phone off the charger for just over 12 hours now and still have 80% left! and that's with 3g on .. some light usage.. gps, couple phone calls, texts and about 10 mins of gaming. I've installed a CF-ROOT KG2 kernel and used titanium backup to freeze/uninstall most of bloatware.. the only thing I kinda miss is BLN.. but other then that I really have no complaints against the samsung provider firmware..

plus this this whole kernel counter / samsung catching on to the jig usage thing is kind of sketchy. why can't they just let us play with our phones?

so really what I'm saying is convince me. is the battery life really going to get better then a 20% drop in 12 hours? can this phone actually get noticably faster?

cheers and happy new year!
