It's not supposed to exceed either:
a) Your base voice plan, or;
b) Your the half value of your total plan

Supposedly, anyways. Some people are able to get away with it, some people don't and their accounts are audited.

sorry for being stupid but what's all this "credit" thing?

also, currently have a $25 plan but without data. what's the cheapest data plan I can have? mainly just for checking email and such, not really surfing on the net. is there one for like $5 extra or something? lol.. oh and this rogers retention centre, is it just for hassling on voice plans? not data plans? or can it be both?

Credits are just subtractions from your bill due to a retentions deal or value pack deduction. For example, I have the 20$ 200 min daytime, Unlim eve/weekend base plan. I also have the 5$ early 6PM evenings. Im given a 5$ Credit back cause thats what retentions offered me to stay with the company. These can come from CID credits or just simply deductions form your baseplan. Read up on retentions here: http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/s...ghlight=Rogers Its possible to get cheaper deals on data but they're arent many options if you wanna browse lightly.

I have a question for all you guys, right now I have
$20 - 200 Mins Unlim weekends/Evenings
$ 5 - Early 6PM evenings
$11 - Communicate Value Pack (125txt, CID, VM)
-$10- Monthly Credit ( Offset the CVP)
-$5 - Monthly Credit (Offset Early Evening)
Total = ~32$ after SAF and taxes

I talked to retentions like 4 times in the past 2 days asking if I could get the 30$ (-10$ credit promotion ) Data pack which includes 500mb of data, 10000txt, 10000mms, CID, and VM for my E71. Most said the 10$ promotion only worked for Blackberrys. I got one CSR who let me use the promo on my E71 and he left it as a memo in my account. So if I remove the Communicate Value Pack from my plan (also removing the 10$ Credit thats tied to it) its still roughly 52$ for my plan. Is this worth it you think? I tried asking them acting dumb just to straight swap my CVP for the new Data pack but they all said the original 10$ credit would have to be removed. Should I pull the trigger on 3 years of locked in data for 52$

Alphamale 12-04-2008 02:32 AM

Ask them to let you keep the credit, it's doable. I've done it before.

choda 12-05-2008 12:14 AM

fucking cunts at rogers...i call in to retentions and wanted to get a bold but i mainly just wanted it for the full qwerty keyboard and cuz it looks nice and they said i had to get a data plan which i dont want...so then i call sales and ask if the E71 needs data the guy says no and it doesnt say anything online so i call again to retention and tell them i want that and their like you need data for the too...GRRRRRRRRRRRRR can they even do that when some guy told me i dont need one ?

+Kardboard+ 12-05-2008 01:03 AM

They have n00bies working too. They make mistakes. Hardly justifies them as cunts. If you want the phone for cheap you need a data plan. You can get one with out the data, but it'll be more expensive. That's all, unless that's changed.

03aspec 12-05-2008 09:10 AM

ok all these good deals are really pissing me off, every time i call them i get the shaft. i asked the person for a blackberry bold last time and he said it would cost me like $600! this is ridiculous.... so how do they manage to get you guys such good deals? have you been with rogers for a long time or something? ive been with them for about 2 years now. i also only asked for a hardware upgrade once which was last year and i ended up getting a bb pearl...

03aspec 12-05-2008 09:13 AM

oh ya, i also tried to get that new $45 smart phone data plan, and they wouldn't let me! they were saying something like, ohh thats for the 3g phones only it wont work with your old iphone... :( i feel like canceling my contract

We get these good deals from renewing our contracts
However calling in to retentions is always a hit or miss, persistence is key though..

CRS 12-05-2008 09:39 AM

I've been w/ Rogers for 6 years...

your 2 years doesn't seem all that much.

To be honest, no.

You could cancel your contract, then sign up for a new one then you'd be eligible for a lower price.

But you'd probably be paying a penalty fee for cancelling before the natural date of your contract's expiration, so you're better off just waiting it out.

03aspec 12-05-2008 09:58 AM

well that really blows, thanks for the help though. my contract is up in 2011 so ill fill you guys in then on how it goes:cry:

!Yaminashi 12-05-2008 10:02 AM

I'm pretty sure by that time there will be phones that blow the bold out of the water

jerche 12-05-2008 01:22 PM

so i just got off the phone with rogers again couple days ago...
and i gotta say, i am actually quite content with my new data plan....lol

i used this plan as my template...
http://www.howardforums.com/showthre...6&page=1&pp=15

so basically i got the $30 value pack

250 mins weekday
rogers to rogers
unlimited evenings 6pm and weekends
100 canadian long distance

Value pack
500 mb
voicemail, caller id, 10000 sms and 10000 mms, who called

and i get to keep my previous $25 monthly credit

so the total i'm paying is around $46ish after saf and taxes!!!
now the ONLY thing i need is unlimited network...but that's another $15 according to the rep...

Dude I hope you know you can get another 10$ off the cost of the 30$ data plan. This is easily attainable by using this with a Blackberry. Its harder but you can also get it on a non BB device.

i brought it up to the rep actually but he told me this is only for the unlimited email one...
he told me there are rumours about it but it's not true

JordanLee 12-05-2008 04:59 PM

Hes bsing you. Keep phoning back, determination is key.

I just pulled the trigger on it today. Phoned data and got a crazy set up.

200 Mins |20 $
6PM Early Evenings | 5$
Monthly Plan Credit | - 5$
500MB Smartphone Data pack | 30$
^This has 10k Text, 10k MMS, CID w/ Name display, and Enhanced VM
Monthly Plan Credit | -10$
Monthly Plan Credit | -10$

Total is 30$ + 6.95 + 0.50 X 1.12 Tax = 42$ All In

Sooo happy, I phoned the normal data line as they wouldnt know to take away my 10$ Credit thats supposed to offset my previous communicate value pack.

I must have phoned in like 5 times in the past 3 days trying to get it. Finally won.

Oshin 12-08-2008 02:46 PM

shyt,, they wouldn't let me get the $10 off for the 500mb data pack. Phoned 2 person today and they said same shit is for this black berry unlimited email. They even told me, that it was odd that they let you do that jordan =/ lucky

Alphamale 12-08-2008 04:47 PM

^They had a recent email out to the reps that told them NOT TO GIVE OUT $10 credits on the 500mb packages.

Lucky FOR NOW, however his account will probably be audited for having so many credits

Been scouring this forum and others for good retentions deal.

Just a general tip for people who score retention deals from rogers.

It all matters on the following things:

1. How long you've been with rogers and how much revenue you generated them
2. Are you currently not on a contract (i.e month to month or past a contract)
3. How nice the CSR you get.
4. The current deals on voice and hardware available.
5. The first "retentions" deal they offer you - make sure to get them not to document it if you want to think about it and go back because my first offer was documented and they hardly budge from there.

Long story short. I called in on a weekend and got a pretty chilling CSR. Explained that I was with Rogers for about a year and previously I was with them for 4-5 years but moved away and switched cell phone companies. Told them that I wanted a BB Bold

Here's what I got:

BB Bold for $199 - $50 Credit on a 3 year contract

300 daytime minutes
UL evening @6 and weekends
Unlimited Rogers
$30 Blackberry Data Value Package:
500mb BIS
10K MMS
10K Video Message
CID
EVM
Who called

All in for $40 + SAF + 911 Fee = $54 of so monthly

Overall I think its pretty good considering I was paying the same amount of money with 1/2 the minutes, no data and definitely not as much text messages.

Would have been gravy if I got the Bold for $99 and the SAF waived. But I ain't complaining

sh0n 12-08-2008 09:40 PM

Just noticed I pretty much got the same as Jayman555 but I have the extra 50mins, network calling and no long distance. Also $8 bucks more for me.

Generally people who has the use and can score the voice plan + $30 bb data plan for under $55 is getting a pretty damned good deal IMO

well, i got the bold! i just talked nicely to one of the sales reps and i managed to get the bold for $250 with a $50 mail in rebate!! i did have to sign another contract and pay the $35 fee and also added on the $30 1gb plan. so combined with my voice plan it should be about $60 a month. i am now a happy camper.

Is your voice plan the 17.50 EPP plan?
