Steroid abuse.

This kid will regret doing this to himself at such an early age before his body had the chance to develop naturally. Can almost guarantee he will have issues later in life, sooner as opposed to later if he continues to use as heavily. That kind of chemical imbalance at such a crucial time in a man's development will not end well.

i think tis fair to say you can go mixed if you have too, but at least go overhand until you cant no more :accepted:

I'm in ... heaviest pull was 395x1 (3 weeks ago) but I took a week off after that. Got 315x5 this Monday, but friend told me my form was horrible ... so looks like I'm starting at around 3 plates again :accepted: IN!

kevin7352 02-17-2012 01:58 PM

will you be cheating yourself in the long run in terms of grip strength if you start using a mixed grip too early? (say, 225) OR will your grip strengthen no matter what and eventually i will be able to double overhand the 225 when my mixed grip deadlift gets to like 315

You're not cheating yourself in the long run. Your grip strength has to grow just like your core strength when pulling that kind of weight. I haven't been doing DL's very long and when I got to regularly doing 2 plates I could only do it mixed. Now that I've progressed up to 3 plates I can easily rep out 2 plates with overhand only. But I still need to use mixed when I'm pushing the limits of my lifting ability, everyone does. The mechanics of the human body will always make it easier to pull mixed.

Cheating yourself is not doing full ROM reps in any exercise, using momentum or swooping to lift more than you can actually handle, and thinking that anyone else's opinion on how strong you are actually matters.

XplicitLuder 02-17-2012 02:10 PM

and kevin i was doing mixed all the time cus it felt so much easier :fuckthatshit: but i got the advice from this thread to start early with overhand and just keep going at it. So far im still doing OH grip

hx2gls 02-17-2012 02:11 PM

Your grip strength will still improve but try to do as heavy as you can during warm up with double overhand

dachinesedude 02-17-2012 02:59 PM

when using double OH grip on DL, reset after every rep (let go and re-grip), grip wont give out as fast, works for me

RRxtar 02-17-2012 03:16 PM

I do OH grip up to 3 plates. at 3 plates i switch to mixed not because grip is an issue, but because its more comfortable. sometimes ill do mixed grip but the opposite way up to 3 plates.

TouringTeg 02-17-2012 03:20 PM

I do the same. 225 OH grip and then working set mixed grip. Usually have to reset after 3 or my form/grip fails.

Mixed grip is fine

strykn 02-17-2012 03:33 PM

Whenever peepz ask him about deadlifting tips regarding grip this what i tell:
no chalk
overhand grip only
no straps
no gloves
UNTILL U HIT 3 PLATES

trust guys u do dis and u wont plateau and just gain after 3 plates.

Gerbs 02-17-2012 03:39 PM

going to attempt 255 x 5 today on mixed
ill try to get a vid up here

kevin7352 02-17-2012 03:44 PM
