When I was up there it was around 5cm, but it was still coming down fast, took about 2 minutes to cover any foot prints left. about 35 mins up there and my car was covered with about an inch of snow.

Weight in the back of any fwd car is worse than no weight at all because your heavy back end will lift your front end and you have no traction at all.
now for all you RWD BMWs and Lexus dudes some weight in the back is golden, just like the good old days. a 50lb sack of rice or anything around that much in your trunk will do wonders when you have a nice set of winter tires. I can't believe so many people don't know that. I remember as a kid. That's what people did when most cars were RWD. Personally I like using a couple weight lifting plates in the trunk so you still have a trunk. Driving in the snow when I had my S2K was not a problem.

drove rwd car tonight in snow with all-seasons, up hill, down hill, etc... no problem.
problem is if the roads have salt, can't drive then... not exactly the best thing for an older car (causes rust later down the road).

Shit, it's so bad out there. I had to leave my friends house, going down Victoria Drive towards Marine and my brakes jam up, lol. The car in front of me which was a newer Civic is going down fine and I assume the driver hit the brakes too hard because he/she went flying over the curb and almost smoked a tree. I basically drove in 2nd gear and used 1/2 going downhill with any problems.
It still baffles me that some drivers think they can speed in this weather, I must have counted at least 12 drivers who smoked the curb.

i agree
if someone drives 20 in the snow, its best for them to stay home and NOT drive.
And to the person with summer tires on the snow, you know if you get into an accident and icbc find out you are using summer tires in this weather you will be liable.
its richmond, maybe 1% of people know how to drive in snow why the hell would you want to go faster than everyone else it seems stupid to me. granted the conditions arent that bad id figure people would still be aware of this and go a bit slower not only for the safety of themselves but for others. just because you have snow tires and all wheel drive doesnt mean you'll stop perfectly especially if the person going 20 decides to cut you off. i completely understand that 20 is stupid but still.

I'm so glad I left surrey early last night, left at 10 when the snow was starting to come down hard, my friend who left at 11 got stuck and pulled into a wal-mart. He blames it on driving a "two-wheeler" and not having snow tires lol. How's the weather now?
When I was driving around midnight there was noticeable snow but nothing my car couldn't handle and drove the one with A/S >.< kinda regret it cause it wasn't very fun. I think what made it so hard for me was driving down 91 with maybe 15 ft of visibility, there wasn't any snow on the road or anything but visibility is a big issue, so for those of you with poor lighting and wipers maybe it's time to replace them too!

You need to shovel the snow off your sidewalk before 10 am or else you'll be slapped with a fine of $250.
All Vancouver property owners and occupants are responsible for clearing snow and ice from the full width of sidewalks that surround their property by 10 am on the morning following a snowfall, seven days a week.
http://vancouver.ca/engsvcs/streets/maintenance/snowIce.htm
If they don’t, they may be slapped with $250 fines.

I don't get the point if shoveling the sidewalk when all of the snow gets pushed on to the road anyways. It's makes it harder for drivers to park and drive through giant mounds of snow. They should change the law so people shovel snow off the road on to the sidewalk

^ it's generally for the safety of pedestrians and postal workers. when i shovel snow i place it either on the lawn or somewhere else out of the way of pedestrians and traffic.

to play devil's advocate on that jetta taking up two parking spots - I don't know the circumstances but if the owner had parked while the lot was covered in snow only to have the snow melt from under the car, I could see how he parked that way. When snow covers a parking lot, it can be difficult to figure out where the lines actually are.

A Winter Storm Warning is now in effect from Everett southward through Olympia until 10pm tonight, as a Weather Trifecta is moving through today: Snow, Wind & Cold.
Here's the deal for today: Snow showers will pick up in coverage and intensity (especially south of Seattle) as that low pressure center passes by to our south and west. The highest snow totals will be closer to the low center, so Olympia, Chehalis, and Kelso have the best chance at significant accumulations today. The wind will pick up considerably this afternoon, and it will get even colder as a second surge of cold air will spill into Western Washington later today. Here are some snow & wind specifics.
Looks like the system is moving south and west, so unfortunately, It won't be hitting Vancouver.
its so fucking cold i almost made a new thread called the cold thread.
StylinRed
11-22-2010, 01:24 PM
Summary
Cold wind chill values below minus 20 degrees will occur today through tonight.
Details
A deepening Arctic airmass combining with moisture from an upper disturbance southwest of Vancouver Island is producing strong winds. Winds of 60 to 70 gusting to 90 km/h are combining with the cold temperatures to give wind chill values down to minus 20 degrees over the central coast and over the inland sections of the north coast. These conditions will spread to the Howe Sound Whistler and Fraser Valley area throughout the afternoon as temperatures drop and winds increase. Meanwhile snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 cm have already fallen across parts of Southern Vancouver island with as much as 15 cm at Port Alberni. A further 5 to 10 cm is possible before snow eases off later this afternoon. Further north only 2 to 4 cm of snow has fallen with flurries while the snow has eased at Powell River and the snowfall warning is ended.

Wayyyyyyyyyyy too cold to wash your car in this temperature. But there's this patch of dirt on my rear window that's annoying me. So I took a piece of paper towel, ran it under hot water.
Took it outside to the car, wiped 1/5th of the rear window - and within SECONDS, it turned into wet slush...:p

If you're going to wash your car, end of the week seems warmer, I think I saw 7 degrees or so..
But whats the point, it'll probably rain/snow again the next day anyway :p

Just a warning for everyone, try to fill your tires with air at home cuz a lot of the gas station's air compressors are broken. I know quite a number of the chevrons air pumps are fucked and most of the gas stations with working air charge 50 cents to a dollar per fill.

I've seen quite a few that charge for air compressors, but the proceeds go to charity. I don't mind that..

FUUUUUU. I was thinking of going to chevron to pump some air into the tires. Which ones are busted??
Nevermind busted. I posted a warning about air from some gas stations spewing out water with the air. It was over a year ago, but one of them was the Shell station on Kingsway near Boundary on the Burnaby side. More water than air. I just happened to notice because I didn't have the air hose head placed on the valve properly. Good thing, because I would have had so much water in the tires. This was over a year ago, so perhaps they fixed it. I always check now or try to fill the tires with the trusty compressor at home. Free isn't always a good thing, I guess. BTW, how bad is water in tires?

You will get water vapor in your air even with your trusty compressor at home, unless you have some sort of air dryer/water separator system.

Knowing weather network's reliability, I wouldn't be surprised if this change later on, but other than the 5-10cm of snow forcasted for Thursday.... they are always predicting 1-3 cm on Wednesday

Yes, I have one of those oil/water filter thingys installed, plus I open her up at the bottom on a regular basis. Gotta protect me air tools.

Enough water will throw your balancing off at high speed, but a few bottle cap fulls is not going to hurt anything.
If you have steelies they might rust a little tho...

Man wash world in Richmond is pretty fucked up. Right where the galeforce dryer is is a huge ice puddle/lake and it takes a while to get through. Luckily I have winter tired but Tcs was screaming and car was still swaying side to side. The prius in the other bay with winters stood still for a while and she was given an extra free run lol.
I'd say the ice patch is abt 2 or 3 ft long and about 6ft wide. Don't go if you don't have awd/winters :/
At least car came out pretty clean and yes it froze a lot. Just a bit of water mark from where the ice froze but pretty happy for a $6 job
