are there any good "touchless" car washes that won't screw up the paint?
even somewhere just to spray on soap and rinse?

i've been going to this one:
Car Wash Burnaby BC | Car Wash Near Me | Autoxpress (http://www.carwashburnabybc.ca/)
but don't bother with the expensive packages. just stick to the two cheapest/underwash options.
and if you are expecting miracles like after offroading you will be disappointed. i saw one truck go in for a basic wash that was covered in mud and it came out looking no better than before.

I do have to agree about how much of that saline solution gets on your car, though. After two weeks I decided to wash my car.
Well... power washed it, at least. She's still dirty, but at least you can see the original colour now.

Only good thing about this snow is that I get to see all the cool snow cars, like a volvo v70r. Surprisingly, a slammed wrx sti and a lowered legacy gt wasn't too shabby in this snow. Makes me want to take out my e46, too bad it's broken.

As I said earlier, I was helping a new Boxster off the street earlier. I can only assume summer tires as it was completely useless. Anyhow, multiple times I had to scream at the young girl to stop as she was spinning non stop sideways directly into the curb. Finally we got her to the side of the road where she wasn't blocking traffic. I went home and grabbed my boots and went back to the high traffic corner. Looks like she tried again. And curbed the living shit out of her rims. Some people just don't listen. haha. I don't feel bad for her.

Fuck this city when it snows.
I left Bby at 7 and there wasn't a hint of snow. 9 oclock at UBC snow starts but we say "it won't stick to the roads" Come out of the bush at 11 to slow moving traffic. oh boy
Stopped to push some kid out of the middle of 16th. Nobody else stopped even though he was practically begging. Here is my old lady description of the car....green with decals, four door, couldn't push on the spoiler because it isn't "really attached", neither was the bumper so he said just to push on the brake light area, big rims and no rubber. Took two tries to get him going and once I got him parked on the side street I said in the most motherly and patronizing "you are going to leave that parked here as I don't think those tires are made for this weather"
Line up of cars blocking Broadway waiting to get into the tire shop
6 buses backup up along Broadway at McDonald
4th was a gong show due to the Burrard Bridge being closed
At 2 a Mazda minivan couldn't get grip and was spinning his tires at Hemlock and Broadway. WTF that isn't even steep!
Not a bad commute home but listen to the "state of emergency" of North and West Van.
(I know...on a car website and that is the best description of the car...green with decals) LOL
all you had to say green cars with decals and i already had the image in my head...the other stuff with the bumper just had me imagining it hanging off of aircraft cable and the spoiler well...bubble gum :lawl:

If I were to be driving along and happen to find someone needing help who's slightly stuck on the side of the road possibly a front tire leading into a small ditch should I help? I keep a recovery strap in my truck at all times and have no problem helping someone who needs a tug but I'm more worried about them complaining that I've damaged their car and have them say I'm at fault for cracking a bumper or something along those lines.
Any ways to protect myself there? 10 second video of them saying I accept no risk or fault from any accidents while trying to help them for free or just tell them sorry and to go call a tow truck and then go on with my day.

Just doing their due diligence. People pay their taxes for these reasons.
It's easier to shut people up by salting early than it is to shut them up after it's snowed 3cm and have them whining that they've been in a car accident because of the slippery roads not being salted.

Slow start this year if it's going to be anything like last year.

I’m suppose to be driving out to manning park tomorrow morning.... am I gonna be fucked? There's a lot of snow, freezing rain, ice slushy mix, semis forcing you to go into the shoulder. But if you're taking the RS with winters you should be fine. The e46s rear end kept slipping and traction kept cutting out, but the STI we're with was fine.
Just watch out cause snow is really heavily packed and it's tall. And your windshield and wipers will freeze

Dumping snow again in Squamish, starts at Furry Creek all the way to Whistler. Lots of ice under the snow on the highway and very slow going. We got 30cm yesterday and expecting another 15cm+ today through the night. Lots of cidiots spun out in the ditches, one car almost off the cliff right now by Murrin southbound and traffic is stopped. Basically, I wouldn't head to Whistler tonight from Van.

It was fun... in city backroads LOL. On the hwy, not so fun when there's semi-trucks forcing you into the shoulder every 5 minutes. I get it, keep right to unless passing, but in this case, you could not see a visible lane and you would start to plow/have the chance to get stuck, if you kept right. They just chose terrible places to pass, like around bends.
If anyone else is going out that way, don't take a rwd car LOL. And make sure you figure out how to keep that windshield and wiper blades from freezing up. Probably best to switch to 1 piece winter blades, as we found that the e46 had 14 moving joints that all froze up.
EDIT: In hindsight, putting rain-x on your windows might have helped. In Vancouver application, at city speeds, it clears off the water pretty well without wipers. I would assume it would still help clear off water on your windows, which would then prevent the windshield from freezing over.

Guys, drive carefully. I just got back from visiting my wife at the cemetery and it was a skating rink. Black ice. I have Hakkapelitta’s and still slid a bit. Then this Mercedes SUV just flies down the road. I didn’t bother to check, but she probably drove onto the grass past the sharp curve down the hill. This is at Forest Lawn on Canada Way and Royal Oak. Some people are just stupid. They’re the ones I fear the most in times like today. Stay safe and drive defensively. Stay on main, well traveled, and salted roads whenever/wherever you can and slow down on less traveled, unsalted roads.

Special weather statement in effect for:
•City of Vancouver - including Burnaby and New Westminster
•Metro Vancouver - northeast including Coquitlam and Maple Ridge
•Metro Vancouver - southeast including Surrey and Langley
•Metro Vancouver - southwest including Richmond and Delta
•North Shore - including West Vancouver and North Vancouver
Snow expected over the BC South Coast beginning Tuesday afternoon.
Arctic air has been in place over the South Coast for several days. A potent storm system over the Alaskan Panhandle will advance southwards on Tuesday, bringing Pacific moisture into the mix.
Snowfall accumulations of 5 to 15 cm are quite possible, especially away from the Strait of Georgia, before the snow ends Wednesday morning. Freezing levels on Vancouver Island should be high enough to restrict significant snow accumulations to elevations higher than about 200 m.
Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ec.tempetepacifique-pacificstorm.ec@canada.ca or tweet reports using #BCStorm

So it went from a major snow storm last night to no snow by mid-afternoon with beautiful sunshine and temps reaching 8c. Talk about wacky weather.
Yeah on the news weather, the coldest record was ‘90 at -8 or something and the hottest was ‘91 at 13°. Big swing for only one year

Anybody know the owner of this abandoned GTR on Ormidale off Kingsway? They left it there blocking the lane. I don’t know what happened but it is running summer tires, has an N on the back but it was facing downhill.

Maybe they parked it elsewhere, and it slid there after they left.

LOL I have zero respect for these fucks who can afford $100,000+ vehicles but not $1200 for winter tires
It's not that they can't afford the $1200 for the winter tires. It is that they are so oblivious and ignorant about life that changing tires for winter don't even cross their mind.
This group people are an socially awkward cancerous generation of society. Time will teach them.

I checked that kids Instagram account with the GT-R, you'd think with all the modifications he does to his cars and track days that he would be smart enough to get winter tires lol

Cars are already getting stuck on the hill near my house in North Burnaby. Not sure why people who spin out when it is flat think they will succeed going up a steep hill.

Money doesn't buy skill or knowledge, apparently.
I think a lot of rich kids with BMWs are guilty of this as well. I saw one BMW stuck on a pole with the kid talking to the insurance person when it snowed last year around this time.
I doubt half of these "track modded" cars go on tracks or even AutoX at all. Some of them seem to be just ricers, albeit the ones that can afford something more than an old Civic. Sometimes I see some nice BMWs with giant wings and fart can exhausts drive by and I just shake my head.
Anyways, we may get flurries in Victoria as well. Have my winters on since late October, so should be ready... Assuming if I wanna drive my 8 in snow at all.
Presto

It was snowing hard from my journey from Coquitlam to Langley. You know it's snowpocalypse when there's accumulation on the highway.
Not looking forward to tomorrow morning........... sidewalk, driveway, and alley.
