I only changed them cause i didn't like how the ballasts were mounted by the previous owner (zip ties) and one of the bulbs was burnt out. I had the oem bulbs lying around so i swapped em. Are your lenses clear? i would go with 3000k if your going for that "jdm yellow" look

Painted/clearcoated the cages on some Hella Supertones to match the car paint.

Ya, I have clear lenses in Hella Micro DE projectors - I think the yellow will look/work the best, so I ordered them. I've used zip ties in the past - I don't have a show car, just one I drive a lot (50k per year). I have also used industrial velcro to hold ballasts before - that's probably what I will use down here on these fogs as well.

Spent last couple days trying to figure out why my integra died all of a sudden on the sea sky on Sunday and wouldn't restart after. Went through the normal checks which were good so finally tore apart the dash to low and behold an aftermarket imobiliser hidden up in the dash. It was wired into my ignition switch, cut the stupid thing out then replaced the ignition switch and bam car runs once again :awwyeah:

+1 for the industrial strength velcro! i have fuses tucked away attatched with it in the engine bay. You can literally clamp the stuff together and not even have a chance of it coming apart lol. Good call of the projectors also.

I've got air fresheners to the max but apparently now it just smells really strongly of "blueberry weed" as opposed to just weed. Fucking stoners. I'm gonna have to gut the interior but in the meantime I'm keeping the paers saying that I bought it only a couple days ago very close by.

Go to Cyclone Taylor's sports in coquitlam, buy a bottle or two of something called "Sports Clenz"... I used it on my hockey gear for years and the stuff is insane, a few mists and whatever smell is in the fabric is instantly gone. Not sure if it works on weed smells, but it's worth a shot. An air freshener will only cover the smell up.

If it's for sports gear it probably kills the bacteria so I'm not sure if it'd work on other stuff, but honestly I'd have to fill the car with it, it smells like a hotboxed grow op in there.

Car modding at 2AM is fun:
- CF side skirt lip/extensions
- Spacers in the rear
- Replaced replica spoiler with another replica with perfect fitment and OEM design

Then got a free car wash at noon, but then it was raining... :(

Pulled the leaky rad out of the RX7, sweet jesus that thing was grungy on the front. On the plus side it was super easy to take out since it seems like 3/4 of the bolts are missing from this car :suspicious:

Also I noticed that the upper air pump bracket is broken, so it isn't functioning (looks like someone had tried to weld it previously too). Now I need to sort out if the NA's use it for anything or not.

Yes, but it required draining the engine of coolant to remove the block heater etc etc, just way too much work.

And couldn't you just make a cut and just slip it through the crack?

That was the original plan, however even after i cut an entire honeycomb out of the grill it still wouldn't go all the way through. If i get annoyed with the way it is now, i'll remove more and put it through.

is that cushion thingy from one of those bowl shaped chairs? LOL I have one too :D

Hell yes! They make the best mat ever to lie on while working on cars, it's soft, comfy, and insulates you from the ground.

Only to fully remove the heater. If you just want to remove the cord you unplug it from the engine side.

If I had known you were going to clip the grill, I would've suggested placing the plug behind/under the plate so as not to be visible.

Wetsanded (2000grit) and polished my plastic headlights. It's too bad I didn't take a shot of the left one before as it was actually quite a bit worse. I've polished them with straight polish(headlight polish you buy at CT) and that works alright, but tends to go back yellow very quickly. I'm hoping this is a longer fix.

They are very solid without any play when shifting into gears.

yep. all direct bolt on. all shifters are compatible from that era of cars.

I had an e46 M3 shifter in my E36 at one point... and the oem shifters are not expensive brand new! (around $60 for them at the dealer last time i checked)

Ripped the rear carpets out of the RX7, as well as the seats and most of the front carpet. I found about $2 in change, one JBL GTO426 speaker, some funky beads, and that my fuel pump access door was there but not bolted down.

Oh and that the fuel pump wiring is just twisted together, not even butt connectors...

Went snow hooning.

I'm going to unfortunately admit it here.
I have way more fun beating the shit out of my Winter/Daily 93 Corolla, than I do in the MR2.

I don't have to worry about:
- Speed bumps
- Potholes
- Parking lots
- Scratches
- Vandalism
- Theft
- Cops

I can go WOT just to get to 50, and apart from making noise, it doesn't get anywhere quick enough to get in trouble. Even on the highway, I can stand on the throttle and use all of the 60whp to make a bunch of noise and barely pass people.

The speedo/odo hasn't worked in ages, and I'm pretty sure the headgasket is on it's way out. Apart from making sure the brakes still work, all I have to do is fill it up and GO. Fuck warming up. The day the motor blows is the day I get an excuse to go buy a 4runner for work, and do a 20V swap on the HOrolla.

Factory ITBs? Fuckyeah.

^ This.

You're not alone, when I had my turbo Teg, I never beat on it, was always careful with it... and although fun, I had a BLAST with my wife's old 97 Tercel.

That thing was a tin can, and we beat on that thing like rented mule. It never once let us down, and always came back for more. It had the black plastic bumpers, so we could ram shit and not worry about chipped paint. We got rediculous gas mileage with it too, considering how hard we were on it lol. We sold it a few years ago, and every now and then we STILL talk about the fun we had with it :)

Burped the coolant in the FC after the rad replacement, man what a messy job that is. Also bled the clutch and aired up the tires, then took it for a drive down some twisty roads and I've got to say, FC's are very fun cars. Even though this one is a fairly rough NA one (albeit with new shocks and springs) it's a blast to drive.

While I have to agree that a lot of the suspension companies these days come from the same factory (BC, Fortune, T1R etc) You dont have many options locally to deal with rebuilding these and even the higher end ones (KW, Moton, AST, Ohlins etc).

The benefit of going with a Fortune Auto and say a FEAL coilover in North America is that they build them in the USA (Albeit same parts as their BC counterparts) but at least this way you can deal with people in the states and get it valved to whatever spring rates you ordered them with.

I just picked up a set of used Ohlins DFV's and upon installation noticed the rears are clunking quite a bit due to the inverted insert being dry. I got them cleaned out and regreased but its still there. I have no option but to send them out to Cali to get them fully rebuilt. The pricing isn't too bad but I can see why the option of going all out on a rebuildable coilover can be out of reach to some.

Stock > BC/Megan Racing/Made in China/Taiwan garbage. And who is going to repair them locally? Likely nobody. They have to be shipped out and what you get is the same garbage again.

Some people own cars that do not have a large aftermarket, and sometimes BC/Kido/Megan are the only options when it comes to looking for coils.

Currently on the FX the companies listed above are the only choices for coils, and there are countless FX owners all over NA running them without any issues.

Sure a nice set of Ohlins or AST or other high end brand would be nice, but then again we all want to own a set of HRE's or COR wheels as well. But most people are running reps or cheap asia manufactured wheels as well...

Also there are a few shops that rebuild coils locally, at the end of the day they are coilovers, the pieces that go into them are not too darn specialized, they can be sourced and replaced. Its not rocket science, its a suspension system.

Pretty well everything you buy today comes from China/Asia, so what difference does it make if your coils come from there?

godwin
03-11-2014, 11:42 AM
I think dukes is implying and we had looked into this in other threads.. there are very few places that rebuild coils locally. Especially ones that do proper calibrations, yes it is not rocket science but you add different amount of oil into each shocks in a set, you get some really bad results. If you pick off brands you won't get the rebuild kits easily. Perhaps you have a spare set of shocks when you RR your own shocks, but most people the car will be on a hoist for a good month? if need to send down to California to get it done.

when bc / megans are the only choice, i would rather go custom. its not that hard to buy ground control sleeves and buy your own inserts, for my car specifically ive bought KONI race series inserts and BILSTEIN with amazing, ridiculously amazing results. especially with konis having lifetime warranty, and the fact that i only need to adjust my height once, its not like im changing it every other month. there are always options when it comes to suspension set ups, but the new thing is to buy BC coilovers which the valving is crap and the springs are crap because they bind, the rest is just metal... get it revalved then order some swift springs in and call it a day

meme405
03-11-2014, 12:51 PM
If you don't want to deal with the hassle of coils, then just do lowering springs and call it a day.

If you put on coils, you must do so knowing that they are a lot more work than any traditional suspension setup, they require tuning, they require maintenance, and they will (sooner than traditional spring and shocks) will require a rebuild.

It seems to be coils need to be rebuilt every 50-60k KM. Whereas even on the worse cars, a spring and shock setup will go 100k km.

The maintenance and tuning reason is the exact reason I chose to go with H&R springs, and OEM KYB shocks. I didnt want to deal with the hassle of coils.

Do I regret not having the option of lowering and raising my car withing a few hours, do I regret not having the adjustability? Yes to both. But I am still certainly happy with my current setup.

It seems to be coils need to be rebuilt every 50-60k KM. Whereas even on the worse cars, a spring and shock setup will go 100k km.

Are these estimates or hard data?

I put on 60k of mixed mileage (daily/track) on my KW V3s on my old car and it held up fine. No leaking, felt as good as new. Of course I don't have a shock dyno handy, but my butt dyno says it's fine.

I've since sold the car and the current owner has put on another 50k.. No leaking still.

?

Or are you referring to China built coilovers?

when bc / megans are the only choice, i would rather go custom. its not that hard to buy ground control sleeves and buy your own inserts, for my car specifically ive bought KONI race series inserts and BILSTEIN with amazing, ridiculously amazing results. especially with konis having lifetime warranty, and the fact that i only need to adjust my height once, its not like im changing it every other month. there are always options when it comes to suspension set ups, but the new thing is to buy BC coilovers which the valving is crap and the springs are crap because they bind, the rest is just metal... get it revalved then order some swift springs in and call it a day

dont forget the issue of the collars seizing too.

even if the vehicle isnt daily driven.

BRB. Let me write a letter to the race teams @ F1.

"Hey race team principle,

You can lay off your suspension engineers. Suspension setup, research, and development is not rocket science. You can save yourself hundreds of thousands.

Just get some BC Racing coilovers and you will achieve the same results as your custom-built Penske and Ohlins setup because Revscene members know better.

well definitely they'll seize and require more maintenance
-shocks
-sleeves / collars
-pillow ball camber plates (mine constantly needs lube every 4 - 6 months and to be cleaned out
-new alignments , camber / caster angle
-roll centers

but its just something that goes hand in hand when upgrading to performance parts, definitely wouldn't recommend it for everyone because even a good brand like FEALs / STANCe or Kws will seize up after neglect and improper adjustment. (lets crank it to the max stiff compression because my cars hellaflush and i dont want to rub the fenders)

back to what i did to my car today... installed a filter! yay! ive always wanted a cold air intake but i guess this will have to do. feels like i lost 4 hp
