Changed my oil today and diagnosed the my dead right speaker.
Turned out the the strain relief on the wires popped off from the door and loosened up the connectors.
I'm also brainstorming ideas to invisibly mount my old speakers in the rear of my ef hatch.

went to install a ueo rear strut bar, requires 3 holes to be drilled at each side of the strut tower, the seam sealer would need to be stripped off at the contact points. also the rear end of the bar bolts to the rear bumper mount replacing the original bolt that holes it up. after 27 years the bolts have found themselves a nice home and decided not to leave without a fight

For FRM1. Our halogen brake lights don't have quite the same effect as the LEDs when they blink.

BFD_1_BL_M_ERSCH_BILD = 3rd Brake light

BFD_1_RL_BL_1_ERSCH_BILD = brake light 1

BFD_1_RL_BL_2_ERSCH_BILD = brake light 2

Is it only under "hard" braking?
Harvey Specter
02-28-2013, 02:49 PM
Is it only under "hard" braking?
Technically yes but you can change the values.
Reference;
Brake Force Display (also known as Adaptive Brake Light or Dynamic brake lights) shows the drivers behind that you are braking suddenly and with force.
In North America (NA), during normal brake application, the outer brake lamps light up.
During heavy brake application, the inner brake lamps also light up.
In Europe, the display of Brake Force is different. Instead of the extra lights, the brake lights flash rapidly during heavy brake application.
This is a matter of preference, but recent studies carried out by Daimler Benz show that people's reaction time is quicker with flashing brake lights than without. The studies found that at a speed of 50 mph the increased reaction time reduces the stopping distance by approximately 14.5 feet and at 65 mph by around 20 feet. That's nearly 2 car lengths.
If you are wondering about the legality of this change in NA, I am not an expert on this, so the truth is that I am not certain. I found the following quote during a search "the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded the U.S. subsidiary of the German luxury car company [MB] a temporary exemption from U.S. automobile safety standards, allowing it to sell as many as 5,000 vehicles over the next two years that include brake lights that flash during emergency stops." If you search this topic, there are opinions galore. Please, do not flame me with your opinion on this. I am only showing you that this change is possible.
It requires the following code change to set how your brake force is displayed:
FRM->3050 FRM_AUSSENLICHT_PARAMETER, 30->ESS_ERSCHEINUNGSBILD->bremslicht blinkend (brake light flashing). The default (at least in NA) is flaechenvergroesserung (area enlargement)
You can adjust the sensitivity of the system with the following codes:
FRM->3050 FRM_AUSSENLICHT_PARAMETER, 30->ESS_ON_VERZ (default for Europe (14 dec) 10 m/s2; default for US (10 dec) 8 m/s2)
This refers to deceleration speed
FRM->3050 FRM_AUSSENLICHT_PARAMETER, 30->ESS_GESCHW_SCHWELLE (default for Europe Werte=32 (50 dec) default for US Werte=05 (5 dec))
This refers to the threshold speed for activation

Finally picked up the bulk of my parts from point roberts ... paid almost $40 to pick them up, damn amazon ships everything one by one. Plus side? No tax! Couple hundred worth of parts, so I guess it balances out.
realized my floor jack isn't big enough to lift my jeep, spent 20 minutes with my spare tire jack lifting it and getting my jack stands under the axles.
Anyone know how to fix this?

welded in patch pieces on my crx rocker panel. all the major rust on the car is fixed now, it was just the rust on the drivers side rocker panel. the rest of the car is in pretty good shape!
smallest/easiest piece first
http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk271/micknak/photo7_zpsee5672cb.jpg
welds grinded down and blended in as best as possible
http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/kk271/micknak/photo8_zps9136935c.jpg
then started on the longer piece. what a pain in the ass, but a great learning experience. i got the hang of welded body pieces.. by the end of the day.

it turned out ok. not as smooth as i'd like, an angle grinder is overkill on such thin metal.

nope, i didn't have time to grab things because i started too late in the day. i did some practice welds on scrap pieces so i could dial in the welders settings, so i think that helped. i hope. i'll try flap disks if theres still more clean up grinding to do, body filler will make it smooth but i'm trying to use as little as possible

I like the one you have, even though it has a lower weight capacity at 2T. It's all anyone really needs for cars and suv's, sits low, lifts almost 4" higher and is 11" deeper (hence the lower weight rating). I guess it depends if someone's willing to pay almost double for it though.

Got my turbo out and changed the gaskets + hardware to fix my exhaust leak.
Also put on new turbo elbow since everything was out.
Been working this during the week whenever I can find time after work.
you should get a new o2 sensor, if the o2 sensor you are using now used the elbow as a ground, the stainless steel one you have now wont be a good ground

lowered the car today but i have a question.. even though i lowered the rears evenly, one side is still higher than the other (more wheel gap) is it safe to lower the other side more to even it out? or is it bad/unsafe for the perch to be uneven ?
do you have anymore pictures of it installed? i want to try to fabricate something like this for my crx. i wonder if i could use aluminum tubing? i want to learn how to weld aluminum. i'm not an engineer, but having it in an X would be more effective at keeping the car from flexing...? except you'd have to remove it to get the spare tire out
sorry i had my hands full so i didnt get a lot of chances to take pictures. basically the hatch area of the ae86 is pretty horrible when it comes to structural integrity, the bar is design by UEO to brace it from strut tower to strut tower at the same time linking to the rear frame. an X would be better but somewhat defeats the point of it being a daily and or a hatch at all, i would rather just drive a coupe lol. one issue with making a bar that braces against the rear frame / rebar is impact in the case of an accident, luckily for me jdm bumpers dont use rebars.. sorta

Let the suspension settle in for about a week or 200km. After that, check again and see if it's still higher.
Which side is higher ? Dont forget, the driver side will sit lower due to your weight.

I think you have to drive the car for a certain amount of time for it to settle. By certain amount of time it could take weeks

I set my driver fronts 2 or 3 threads above the rest of my coils, and get it aligned at that.
Oh also forgot to mention, I know on my car, the gas tank isn't perfectly centred as well, so when its full or empty could change the way the back sits. There are so many variables, its really hard to get it perfect. Take it to get corner balanced at a race shop if it REALLY bothers you, or just keep messing around.

did some minor work today on my newly acquired RSX, since it was a decent day.
Had to start with an engine bay clean. Before hand i checked my spark plugs (should probably replace...), air filter (looks clean), and cleaned the throttle body with some intake clean. I also found one breather hose that was basically disconnect/not properly on. Car never skipped a beat or showed a CEL.

Then i got bored and did some polishing to see how well the paint would come out. To my surprised a lot of scratches, dullness, and marks came off and the paint looked great. Gotta love white paint sometimes! I only polished half of the car by the time i got lazy.

Spent a whole day trying to wire in this old sub and amp combo I got for free, and trying to figure out why the wiring didn't work... Weird amp had no remote wire, and no rca's but had speaker connections... Spliced so many times just to figure out in the end that the actual amp/sub was dead and it wasn't my wiring that made it not work :( Sigh.

cool, i had a 10.5:1 A6, i milled .040" off the head hahah. very budget. i used a 1st gen integra ECU which has more fuel and a more aggressive timing map i think. i was going to build a 1mm over 11:1 compression one with LS rods but the car fell apart. the block and pistons are still sitting at the machine shop
i have a soft spot for the single cam D series engines. not the most potent but they're cheap, you can buy them for almost nothing and just keep blowing them up!

So I had my good friend Mike @ Performance One in Richmond swap grilles on my f01 750i, love the new LCI grille because it looks so much cleaner.

Got all my rear suspension arms back into the subframe, for some reason the passenger side went together no problem but the drivers side was a pain in the ass. Nothing a big hammer can't fix :fuckyea:

At risk of sounding stupid, I don't see any difference?

The change is subtle but less slates does make the car look more aggressive.

yeah, lowing cars ads camber automatically "if you have a lower control arm" , my wheels stick out like and inch if i lift the car 1-2", lowing they just camber into the fenders :D
those are +12.... do you guys think it will be better after i lower it?
or should i just buy a +22 set?
mk1freak
03-25-2013, 11:33 AM
itll be much better when you lower it, camber can then be decided (if you need more) and also if you'll need a fender pull or roll.
IMHO get coilovers since you can adjust heights and stiffness itll also help to prevent rubbing vs if you get just lowering springs on oem "sportuned" shocks/struts. on most if not all coilovers you can adjust the camber as well, though rears you might need the adjustable lower control arms.
