A track wrap is when you are cheap and only wrap bits of the car that get dinged and not the whole car. Nothing to do with the material itself and everything to do with my insufficient wallet

I jad something similar happen after manual swapping the Prelude, a clip came off one of the cable housings and I couldn't get any gear below 3rd. Maybe go for a late night drive and do some hard shifts and see if it holds up, or take a look in there in a couple days and see if it's staying in place.
Was away for a business trip, and got back this week. Took the time to take it all apart again and double check everything.
My late night repair job, though "working" and seemingly ok, it 100% would have popped off again. A little finger pressure had the shifter cable pop off the shifter base lol. It is now properly secured on, doesn't budge now with pretty strong pressure. No clips broken, but made a minor chip on my shift knob when I spun the shift knob off the threads and it went flying FeelsBadMan
While I was away, my new carbon fibre flat bottom steering wheel arrived. I'm just going to have Garage5 install it when I get my exhaust installed...

Installed a Goodwin Racing shock tower brace and front subframe brace on the Miata today. I'm pleasantly surprised at the noticeable reduction of cowl shake and overall NVH, any further improvements to the car would be a bonus.

Did you have to scrape away the undercoating where the subframe brace goes on? Or there's a square just open like that? Looks ripe for potential rust down the road.
What you are saying is making me remember rigid collars which help center the subframe. AJR seems to sell a version of it for the ND.

No, my car has the undercoating. The picture of the subframe brace is from the website I bought it from and I used it since I didn't take a pic when I was under the car.
I thought about doing the collars too but it seems like a lot for two pieces of metal, nevertheless its on the list of potential mods. My next mod will probably be the rear shock tower brace from Cusco to tie everything together.

GWR had 2 pieces for rear subframe brace for the NC, and I had wanted to purchase them. But they only sell those as part of the whole underside vehicle brace kit, and I didn't want the whole thing, so I never ended up having any underside bracing done at all...

I have been trying to dig back to find the post I think it was you made about things to watch out for on the NC after I bought one and posted a pic of it and I'll be damned if I can find it... do you recall where it was???
Traum
09-22-2025, 01:02 PM
I have no idea where that post would be anymore LOL~
But off the top of my head, I think these are some of the more common issues associated with the NC?
- cracked / brittle OEM plastic coolant tank -- aluminum versions avaiable from aftermarket
- best to remove the small (engine) cover that covers up the ignition coils. Over time the cover will pinch on the wires connecting the coil pack. When the wire breaks, you'll have no spark.
- (under) cowl opening where the OEM foam piece would age and disintegrate, allowing water ingress to the footwell -- the opening is there on both the left and right side of the cowl, accessible from outside the car
- clogged rear water drains (close to the door, accessible from the top with the convertible top partially opened)
- garbage OEM engine mounts -- GWR Roadster sport version is much better for performance driving, without introducing a ton of NVH
- clutch, brake, or gas assembly (I can't remember which one it is) that will see metal fatigue over time, and eventually cracks. Weld on gusset reinforcements recommended.
- shifter lockout plate is made out of plastic. Wears out over time, and could cause shifting into first / second difficult
- soldering in windows switch eventually cracks with age
- rust build up on the black metal piece immediately behind the small triangular window on the door
- general rust proofing just isn't that good on the NC (a Mazda "tradition", I guess?)
- stock headers are super restrictive garbage
I'm sure there are more things to watch out for, but the NC is still by far the car I've had the most amount of fun in (with clothes on :ifyouknow: ), as well as one of the most reliable out of all the vehicles I've owned.

I've probably spent around $1600USD with them already. I'd highly recommend them for anyone with any generation of Miata looking for mods. Fast shipping (FedEx) and I haven't been charged any duties or tariffs for some reason. Flying Miata is great too but I had to pay fees on some things.

I think Traum got most of them.
We got the GWR bracing kit for the NC and honestly it didn't feel like it made a huge difference. My friend got the Cobalt front strut tower brace to replace the OEM one because you can't adjust coilovers top dial with the stock brace. He said the Cobalt brace was better than stock. I have driven it since but can't tell a difference but I didn't push it.
There are seat lower rails you can get which would help you sit lower in the car to give a bit more clearance. There are also better door bushings so there's less overall cowl and door shake when driving as you use the door as better bracing for the chassis itself.

Yeah the only thing I can definitively say it does it reduce cowl shake by a large margin and NVH. Others on the Miata forum say the steering feels sharper and maybe it is??? The front end feels more solid and this is most evident on bad pavement. The door bushings are great too because they're inexpensive and avaliable at tons of places.

It's the other end of the hose from hell. Normally there's a hard line that runs from the oil cooler (with the famous hoses that are actually easy on the Celica) that goes under the oil filter and wraps around the engine and goes to a small hose that goes where this plug was. I assume that one is easy on the MR2 but buried on the Celica because of the transfer case. When the shop installed my aftermarket oil cooler they deleted the hard line and I guess used this plug to cap the nipple on the back of the motor instead of removing the nipple and plugging the port in the block with metal.
It looks like a huge mess but it only took about 1.5hrs to remove everything with normal hand tools, and a good chunk of that was fiddling around to get the other hard lines out without removing the turbo, so I can replace the missing one and go back to the stock oil cooler.

It was at first, I couldn't see where it was coming from at all so I had to pull the crossmembers off and even then I could barely see it from below. Reaching from above I scraped the hell out of my arm just to get one finger on it. The trick with these is don't try to squeeze into awkward spots, most stuff comes out easily so just keep removing things that are in your way until it's accessible.

I went for a long driver after install and I my answer would be yes, but to much less of a degree than the overall improvement the front subframe/shock tower braces made. I can feel that the rear feels more "solid" over rough pavement but outside of that I don't notice anything else. I would be happy with less flex and reduced NVH if nothing else.

Is a front sway bar upgrade also in the plans?
If you are only doing the rear bar, I'd be concerned about making the car too tail happy.
The front sway bar went in yesterday and the car's handling is now 10/10. I picked up a set of Conti Extreme Contact Sport 02's recently and I can't wait to get those on in Spring for super ultra max handling.

The ECS 02 is perfect for the kind of weather we're having now. If you have them mounted on separate wheels, slap them on the car and enjoy~! No need to wait until spring.

I'm going to be running only 1 set of wheels on the Miata. I'll ride the factory Bridgestone S001 into spring before they are replaced. I have Michelin PS4S on the GTI and I'm interested to see how the Conti's stack up.

On a very anecdotal standpoint ECS and ECS 02 are much more trackable than PS4S/PSS lol.
I quite like the ECS 02. Even on colder days like 5* mornings it still grips quite well.

I did a few things last week.
New pads, and clips and pins etc. in the brakes. Oh it feels soooo much better. I don't know why I didn't do this before. Looking at the brakes on the M2 (which are huge brembo's that don't really hack it at the track), these seem tiny, but since the car weighs so little they do a great job.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54858142730_d1e9ae16e2.jpghttps://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54858142725_4fd0ae5dfd.jpg
Single pot Brembo on the back.
It was time for a midpipe on the M2.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54858090253_c0ef706f70_c.jpg
Wtf do I do with this now? There are two secondary cats on there that are probably worth something?
I forgot to take a pix of the new pipe before I put it on, but it's MAD and really sounds great.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54858142735_c08febc53d_c.jpg
(this is looking front to back. Previously the pipe also went to the right of the transmission, and now it's a gap.)
I also installed a valve controller, so I get the virile growl without the poser pops and crackles. :ahwow:

The number of pistons doesn't mean jack shit imo.
My MS3 had a GIANT single pot sliding front caliper and small single piston rears. It performed fine at Mission.
My M3 has 4 pot fronts and 2 pot rears, and it performs fine at Mission. The pads are the limiters on the M3 as it does carry more speed and more weight.

The MS3 I ran Stoptech street and EBC Blue on the rear to move the brake bias more rearwards because the car's brake proportion is probably around 90/10.
The M3 I tracked with the OEM pads and they were terrible. I swapped to EBC Blues all around and they are ok. It's much more consistent than the original pads but the ultimate stopping power isn't there. I don't get the feeling that the car is hauling itself down when I brake really hard. With the power and weight of the M3 I think I need to move up a step in pads but I don't want to have to swap pads for track days and also value streetability.

Which pads were you running before and after?
I have no idea before. They came with the car. There was lots of meat left, but the fronts started to crumble a little so I said screw it.
I put on Pagid RS42. Probably half the 'nice' feeling is the new pins and lube and I had one bleed screw that was stuck so I replaced that as well.

2 Thoughts:
Avoid EBC Yellow - terrible on E63. Ferodo DS2500 max temp range is low and they fail by chunking and leaving deposits on rotor. StopTech Sport also kinda fades.
You really have two options - CSG CP or Project Mu HC800. My buddy who has won 0 spec 86 and daily drives has done a ton of track days on both.
I've driven them, no squeal. HC800 is rated for 800C but limited applications, CP is rated for 700.

CSG would be Carbotech equivalent iirc for Euro application. Carbotech is good for street/track.
I'm not sure if the recommendation of pads on an 86 would really apply to a F80 M3 as that's a significant weight difference.

Got another recommendation quiet dual duty pad, rated for 7-800C?
Have not found one so far.
DS2500 is only rated for 550C.
Most American OE dual duty is an even weaker "DS2000" on ZL1 (650HP, 3900lb), GT350/500, etc.
Carbotech AX6 is really noisy, only 530C, website says "NOT FOR STREET USE".
Their 1521 dual duty pad is quiet but maxes out at 426C, "NOT FOR ANY TRACK USE".
Edit: I have not tried Powerstop PSA HPDE pads but they're supposedly low noise... just wicked dust and wear.
Rated for 650C.

There's nothing really that can do hard track duty and still be civilized on the street for a car like the F80 at Mission. The amount of energy is simply too great.
The M3 fared a lot better at VIMC as the track is not as brake heavy.
The difference between my MS3 and M3 at Mission is 7 seconds, as in the M3 is 7 seconds faster based on my PB of both cars. Granted the MS3 was on regular summer tires whereas I'm on 200TW with the M3.
I'd put the EBC Blues at the same level as DS2500. The pads from all the brands all typical line up in the same brackets. The bit I'm very happy with the EBC Blues are they still function on the first application even when it's below freezing out. Would the DS2500 be the same? Maybe but I'm happy with the Blues.
I debated whether to get proper track pads this year, but since I didn't go to Mission I decided to skip. I was seriously considering PFC11. The M3 is a kid carrier first and track car third, I kind of want it to be at least somewhat civilized.
donk.
10-16-2025, 07:26 PM

So this POS, after repairing the coolant leaks, i got it driving, only to find out it has several heat soak issues.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54835527319_bfb42caf7a_b.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/2rxCpQc)
Pulled injectors, c7 ptsd most of them ohmed out poorly.
Purchased new ones, installed after nearly a day of diagnostics and messing around.
ONLY to find out the new injectors run worse than the old ones. How is this possible!?!?!?!
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54835527299_651341a652_b.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/2rxCpPR)
Surely i missed something on re install. Went over the car several times, nope, nothing missing.
Only thing left was to re install old injectors and see what happens. Did that, old injectors run just as bad as new ones.
Pulled plugs, plugs ohm all over the place despite looking "ok".
Purchased and swapped plugs, with old injectors, car runs good when cold.
Round 3, swapped injectors back to new ones.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54835527289_4953c6cf11_b.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/2rxCpPF)
And the car is good to go! Starts, and runs way better than ever!
For some reason the AC was not working, little surprise for me

Who wants to guess what is heat soaking now?
I have a riddle for you guys that understand ignition order
The shitbox has the following listed on the engine bay.
The numbers on the engine bay match the actual ignition coil tags / coil backing plate.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54860207449_a34ae4c11b_b.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/2rzNUnF)
The car showed up wired as follows:
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54859096652_4d03b0e158_b.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/2rzHdb1)
The car starts, and drives without hesitation with the above wiring.
If i try and match the coils to the cylinders, the car will not start / run.
Am i retarded? Why does the car run completely miswired, but when you match up the spark to the cylinder, it does not start?
-------------------------
I checked the EGR, yeah its caked, but all solenoids work and pistons move freely. Probably black from the failed injectors / plugs.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54859096662_75abea8f78_b.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/2rzHdbb)
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54859955101_3c8d0a6f36_b.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/2rzMBmR)
-----------------------
Ive changed the ignition coils and spark plug wires, car still runs like ass after it is up to temp.
Im officially a parts changer.
Almost ready to throw in the towel on this and drop it off at a shop
--------------------
Someone mentioned the IACV, you would figure this would cause idle only issues, not full throttle bogging.
I removed it, set it to the shut position, put it back in, and removed the wires, the car would obviously die in park, but it ran the same as when its plugged in, like ass.

I don't think you're retarded, but GM engineers are... my memory is a bit foggy from working on some old GM V6's in a different lifetime, but I believe the ignition coil fires on both sides for these engines... so the cylinder that's firing gets 1 charge, and the other cylinder that shares valve overlap with the firing cylinder gets a secondary charge with the polarity reversed. The numbers, confusingly, are talking about which cylinders are valve overlapped not which way you put the wires on.

Picked up a used set of OEM 18" BMW 640M wheels for winter. They were in okay-ish condition but still needed a bit of cleaning.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54884662731_a9f2b95b60_b.jpg
I started with cleaning the wheels with some wheel cleaner and iron remover but some of the brake dust was too stuck on. Proceeded with a traditional claybar, and followed up with a tar solvent to remove as much of the brake dust as I could.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54872035672_d9512ac052_b.jpg
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54872035652_7b1b085669_b.jpg
The finish was marred up due to the claybar, so I did a quick two step correction with Griots fast correction cream and Sonax perfect finish.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54871947582_5a36c059bf_b.jpg
Bought a new set of 'M' wheel decals, and center caps since the wheels didn't come with any. Mounted a new set of Continental Viking Contact 8 and then ceramic coated with wheels and applied a tire sealant. The tire sealant claims 3 months of durability, so I'm curious to see if it will last me to the end of January. All in all, it took a few hours of work to bring these wheels back to life. They don't look half bad now for used OEM wheels.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54883222042_2a5955fbc3_b.jpg
I also bought a used pair of 5mm spacers. And since I'm already insane for trying to restore used OEM wheels, I went ahead and laser cleaned the spacers to get rid of all the surface rust. For no other reason than why not?

There's a shop in the GTA where the guy operates similarly to you but he takes it further to full blown psychotic. A full car detail, scratches filled in, colour matched, and any dings, bumps, and bumps, he will correct. A car correction takes several weeks and people are willing to pay for his services. I stopped finding joy in it. I can be your level of anal about details but wife and kids kind of killed that. You can get 90% of the way there, the final 10% will take the same amount of time and effort as the first 90%, and etc etc.

I may have a mild case of ocd. I actually do take the time to remove every pebble from the tread with a pick before storing the wheels. I don’t feel like the job is done until I do so. It’s a bad compulsion.
I bet a lot people would watch u detail cars on YouTube.

Quick jacks: more portable, half the vertical lift on most models, cheaper.
Scissor: less portable, about 1000lbs, 4ft lift on most.
The center section is "blocked off" for alot of access. You can remove a brace on some models to increase room. With that said, i could pull my shitbox exhaust because theres enough room. C7, not so much. Depends on car.
If your looking at buying one, i can get you pics with both cars on lift for comparison

I have a riddle for you guys that understand ignition order
-------------------------
Ive changed the ignition coils and spark plug wires, car still runs like ass after it is up to temp.
Update on this shitbox:
Dropped it off at an actual mechanic, one of the injectors that i previously changed was faulty. Thats what i get for buying remanufactured lordco injectors.
Car finally runs fine when hot (/for now)

does remanufactured mean it's used parts that they spruce up and put back into a package? or does it mean it's some guy copying the original OEM part but using "similar" materials and recreating it.

I bought reman'd calipers one time and had to reman'd them myself after it started leaking after the first drive.
And then I reman'd my original calipers because the reman'd reman'd calipers were spongy.
injectors are a funny cat, I got lucky and replaced my lucas injectors (they were 100 each new) with bosch fox body mustang injectors and it worked

Makes sense, old Rovers are not what I would call precise machines :lol
oh no, rovers can be picky as fuck
one time I brought a centric master cylinder from rockauto expecting it to be decent but it caused all my brakes to lock up after driving for 20 mins. All the forums said the only solution was to buy a oem trw master cylinder from UK for $300+
thought I would be do the final touch by swapping the tailgate to a non rusty one on the rage rover
ended up shattering the tailgate

I did rent it out to my wife :troll:
the garage was built in the 80s and cars grew alot since so the partitioning is a PITA, my RR is parked like 3in from the wall to get my little 2ft walkway infront of my bench. sucks big time when I need to work on the passenger side of the truck
otherside is basically the same, 2ft clearance on both sides but I put the fridge and random junk in there so its driver access only from the garage

So what's so good about these old ranges? I watched some review lately and apparently they only have like 200hp :rukidding:
I do it for the grief:troll:.
They are pretty easy to work on, they just get a bad rap because they are high maintenance and no RR owner will fork out money on maintenance.
The P38 is special though, mechanically its decent, its the electronics that's screwy and diagnosing takes a lot of patience. (usually its just corroded joints).

Hello my new friend for the next 10yrs!!! - 2024 RDX A-SPEC
https://i.imgur.com/Qp3XCTf.png
https://i.imgur.com/ws1sia3.png
Why?
- enhanced drive modes - improved throttle response
- quieter cabin
- improved/faster infotainment with FULL screen carplay/AA
- Wireless AA / Carplay
- rear camera washer
- rear hands free trunk release via kick sensor
- courtesy lighting (puddle lights and side mirror lights)
- Ambient in-cabin lighting with customizable colors
- wireless QI charging pad
- VERY good trade in value for my previous 2021 (clean carfax/no accidents/no claims)

Have they made any changes to the drivetrain over the last few years? I actually really like how the RDX drives when we test drove it, but the tranny's occasional retarded decisions made me decide not to get it.

2019-2021 drive was a bit rough, underwhelming unless in SPORT+ mode.
2022+ (refreshed) completely refined with smooth delivery on all drive modes and shifting thru gears.

I have a 2019 RDX. Trackpad just works like arrow keys. You swipe around to the buttons. It works fine in Carplay.
The screen is not touch enabled, and is positioned so far away it wouldn't be accessible if it was.

If it's anything lime the Carplay experience with a trackpad on a Lexus, would not recommend. You mouse around and the hover moves around. Click to select. Sometimes pop ups like maps notifications come with a button that you cant mouse or click into.

Would it have been better if you just leased it the first time around? IIRC the RDX Aspec was around 60k when we were shopping for it in 2019.
It was around $50k+ taxes - Burrard Acura had agreed to $56k after taxes when I was shopping before I found a low mileage demo at Campus Acura that I got for $50k.

I *hate* with the anger of a thousand suns. The latest iOS update with liquid glass makes it even worse as the highlight colour makes it really hard to tell what's selected and, in some cases, like showing recently played albums you can't actually select certain items.
That Acura reversed it on the MDX in half a generation speaks volumes to how horrible a system it is.

The 2013+ had the 8 inch up top, but the 2016+ added the second 8 inch to control climate and such.
It's all very outdated tech and the ELS system is cheap too (410W peak power)
Seconded on driving dynamics, it floats like a Buick but with terribly light Honda EPS of that era that makes highway driving tiring. Pretty sure this is intentional because the OE shocks are Koni FSD.
It was between this and a 2015+ XC60 T6.

Replaced a tire valve stem on the front passenger side. Noticed it was leaking air and the body has seen better days. My guess is the recent snow had built up a lot of dirt and salt to accelerate its demise.
(Insert Toyota hate) So unreliable for a 9 year old valve stem. Stay away from Toyota. :derp: :rukidding:
Traum
01-02-2026, 09:27 AM
I remember tire stores used to replace valve stems as part of the service when I get new tires. I didn't think it was strictly necessary, but I also seem to think it was either already included as part of the mount and balance cost, or it was only a buck or two for each valve stem, so I never objected to it.
Of course that only happened on non-TPMS cars. And the last time when I had new tires mounted for the Mazda (which didn't have TPMS), KalTire didn't change the valve stems either.

^ that's going to look sick with lowered springs and Pretorias (going with 18" or 19"?). The only thing are those black wheel claddings on the Alltrack. If there was a way to paint those same as body color ...

DSG farts only happen when you are on it and upshifting. Otherwise I don't think it does anything.
Wouldn't Golf R springs be undersprung on the rear? Or you mean Golf R wagon springs from Europe?

I remember reading that you'd like to upgrade to a bigger turbo at some point? if your going IS38 route I can recommend the HPA unit. I've had this used HPA IS38+ on my car with the APR high TQ tune for 5 years now and it hasn't blown up!

Yea I'll definitely be upgrading to the IS38 at some point and will be going with an upgraded one for sure; HPA IS38+ is elite, Stratified STR38 I've heard good things about.

Yea need stage 2 tune and have the burbles programmed (fuel cutoff tweak), won't be doing that though....and yes they would be, need to throw TTRS bumpstops on the rear and it levels it out.

They would be the hatch springs or they would be the wagon springs? The suspension guy in me thinks your car is going to drive horrible with hatch springs and a heavy bump stop. You'll hit the bumpstop so often it's going to suck.
I kind of want to turn off the burbles on my car, but I can't do that without going for a tune, and I don't want to unlock the DME for anything. So I'm stuck with burbles.

I think he means the Audi TT rear spring pads, which I have installed on my GTI. Members on the Golf MK7 forums have used this combo with success so it's definitely easier than getting Euro Golf R wagon springs.
Speaking of which, there was someone local who has done the Golf R wagon front and rear bumpers and it looks great!

Barely driven the car last year. After ice racing the clutch was slipping (ended up being a leaky release bearing) so I couldn’t go too crazy with it. No track days, a little autocross. Because I need to drop the trans to do the clutch I figured I’d do a full trans upgrade. So spent time ordering parts.
While waiting I wrapped the car. Didn’t 100% finish before this horrendous unrelenting rain crept in. Will finish things like mirrors/wing at some point.

Dropped the trans. New seals, upgraded bearings, braided clutch lines, act throwout bearing, billet shift forks, carbon synchros, quaife lsd, bronze bushings, light flywheel, twin plate clutch etc etc. a bit overkill, but I want it to keep surviving awd clutch drops

That looks awesome! I'd love to do billet forks one day... I forget what's actually in mine because Toyota went from steel to aluminum forks at one point. It's not a common failure point, but it has happened. Synchros are another issue, they just aren't made any more, so I've been hording transmission parts, but there was a refresh (along with the forks), so there's newer and older versions that are not interchangeable, and the shape of the gears are different too, even if the ratios are the same.

Ugh ford has a typical modern mindset. If you break something internally they say “no sorry we don’t sell that. Buy a whole new transmission” lol.
The synchros are a known weak spot in the ST/RS as the tabs are floating cast aluminum. The syncrotech upgrades are solid brass, much stronger. Also the shift forks have these nylon bushings that do the movement, they’re known to crack off. So 2 I replaced with billet pieces and the other 2 are oem but Jacks Trandmissions welds on a bronze bushing to replace the nylon.
The only thing post inspection I had to replace was 2nd gear. Everything in the Tran’s looked brand new, except the synchro engagement teeth on 2nd gear. Not too much of a shock with all the hard 1-2 shifts. But that single gear is about $500 and 6 week wait. And ford doesn’t even sell them either. Stupid

Of course. Everything DIY on this car for better or for worse hah. Took a few weeks as I just did it panel by panel in spare time. It looks good for someone with no experience, perfect for track car. Not a show car (though I did see some of those sema wrap jobs lol)

Anything 25+ years old gets pretty sparse. Add in the cost and hassle of shipping something the size of a transmission and I can't imagine they're easy to find now.

I feel better about picking up a spare set of full strut/spring assemblies with Koni inserts tomorrow lol. Once the OEM supplies of special bits dry up some of them can skyrocket in price too. I just sold a used bumper skin for ~4x more than what they cost brand new, after having paid over 3x for it myself a few years ago.

Yes. Continue your Guangdong hoarding traditions.

Depends on the brand + age of the car really. For Toyota it was start hoarding a few things around 15 years, ramp up at 20, and really ramp up at 25+. With Honda I was running into NLA parts at 15 years old. Jeep at 10 cause their product support is complete trash lol.
I would guess an M3 would be easier to find long-term support for since they're such an icon, but I'm curious what the E46 guys and westopher with the E36 and E30 have to say.

It's been a while since I've been a BMW guy, but the F80 should follow the below trends, aside from abnormal factors like COVIDflation. There are some parts you should hoard if you can even find it... Like a set of square 513M rears 18x10+40.
For an E46, parts availability at the 15 year mark for my MY (2002) was pretty decent, it wasn't cheap by any means but you get good finds every now and then. Pick up rare parts around this time.
At the 16-17 year mark, things became dirt cheap, especially if you buy from the states. It's always cheaper to buy/better to sell in the US vs Canada, not sure if this is still the case. Rare parts like the BMW Performance Intake + Sway bar + wheels, were getting close to the point of unobtainium, but if found, it could still be had for a pretty penny.
At the 18 year mark, and maybe we can blame COVID for this, parts availability was pretty scarce/expensive, and those rare parts? Now, unobtainium or stupid money. Funny enough, this is when I learned about the BMW Performance wheels, that's how rare they are. Also, I sold the BMW Performance Intake for $1400 USD, something that only costed $400-600 USD a few years ago. I've always wanted the strut bar, but that was unobtainium earlier than the intake. Iirc the strut bar could cost upwards of $3000 USD around this time period.
For an E36, at the 25 year mark, parts were widely available locally and for a reasonable or cheap cost. OEM parts are still available as I knew a few people that were rebuilding with all new OEM parts for their Euro specs. For the current E36 guys, has OEM pricing on parts changed significantly since the introduction of the classics program?

I'm at 7 years, I'll keep things in mind. We never got 513M in Canada so those were always going to be rare here regardless, however they have dropped in price.

Gave my car a quick wash today when I noticed a section of one wheel (circled in red) where it's clearer than the rest. Only one wheel is like this, and the other three wheels look like the uncircled section.
I ceramic coated them back in April of 2024 when I got them and the coating looked fine and clear. But looking at my wheel today, the circle section is noticeably clearer than the rest of the wheel. My other three wheels also have that "hazy" look.
I usually rinse the wheels, hit it with a foam cannon, brush the barrel, hand wipe the spokes and face with a soapy towel, then rinse and wipe dry.
Never noticed it until today because it was getting dark and I was wearing a headlight.
Is it an issue with that section of the wheel or are the rest of the wheels just dirty as shit? Does the coating need to be polished off?

Are you sure it's not the opposite, the other section is starting to look oxidized and hazy, water stained

Yeah, that too. Not too sure why only the circled section is clear though. Perhaps the ceramic coating failed everywhere except the clearer spot?
I used to use a wheel cleaner from Gyeon, but I ran out and didn't really notice much of a difference (probably because my wheels were coated).
Any products you can recommend to try to clean up the haziness? Google says to try something with a degreaser.

I don't think you can just get it out, as most modern wheels are also clear coated so it might be damage to the clear coat, that you can't just polish out. And once you polish to bare metal, you have to keep doing every few years to get the shine back.

After your first comment, I'm thinking that the clearer spot is what the wheel is supposed to look like. I've just forgotten since it's been a while.

Looking at the pics in the ad, the clearer spot definitely resembles more of the stock look on the new wheel.
I'm just hoping they're water stains and a wheel cleaner gets them out. Is it normal for 20 month old wheels to be like this? It's always sitting covered in a carport or garage.
