Tore into the FC with a buddy looking for coolant leaks, found one obvious culprit and one possible one so we cleaned those up, hopefully it stops throwing away coolant now.

jesus fucking christ how many sick cars do you have and how can you afford a GT3/E46 M3/Viper and all the associated costs

not to sound butt hurt but i would be happy even with 1 of your cars even the M3. some people have all the luck in the world, what job do you have to afford all the cars? just curious...

Hey Shark Tank. Wrong person. I doubt anyone here actually knows me as i am not that active (lurker). I only own a viper and a toyota matrix for my daily. Other cars i owned are a 68 mustang and 70 camaro. My parents do have a old 348 and sold their quattroporte a while ago for a X5. Parents cut me off after i showed up with a 68 mustang so i started detailing for cash. Sales manager now at a car dealership.

Did you buy the foil locally? If so mind sharing where you got it from?

i bought it from summit racing. It is called DEI reflect a gold. It can withstand continues 800 fahrenheit. If you dont need that kind of heat protection, i would try reflect a cool which is almost half price but withstands only 400 fahrenheit.

Anyways, i did have some time to kill yesterday and wanted to see what my rims would like in black. Picked up some plasti dip and sprayed the wheels black with a red stripe along with the fuel cap. Not too bad. Now i just need another day off to do the front. The great thing is i can drive around for the next month or so and if i like it, i will most likely have them sprayed gloss black at the shop.

guessing you are not a fan of the coupe rear?
if you are talking about fitment, i will be taking most of the panels off for sanding and polishing before final fitment.

the only person i know that sells the rear is steve from vipair. Stay away from him and read the reviews.

Jeff Lemke is also another guy that does the rear conversion (street serpent) but i dont know if he is still making them.

Yeah, was referring more to the fitment. If it was just test fitting, that makes sense. Was just worried it was a poor repair job that some body shop had done. Would have been a shame since it otherwise looks good. I actually love that shade of white on it.

I kicked the shit out of my car today because it wouldn't start. Can't seem to figure out what is causing the problem because it's intermittent. Anyone have an obd1 reader so i can narrow down the issues? I think it's a fuel injector but i don't know if this is the cause of the issue or not.

1992 honda civic sedan 1.5l
It cranks and turns over, doesn't ignite. It turns over and dies sometimes or runs for awhile and then dies. Sometimes it takes a long time for it to finally ignite and then it will still die minutes after it's started. It dies while idling and while driving. It dies when it's warm out and when it's cold out. It went 2 days without a problem then the engine wouldn't start for a good 20 minutes. Did an obd test and it came up as a ignition output signal. Distributor is fairly new and I just replaced the coil. After reading up on the code it might be a wiring issue somewhere between the dizzy and the engine.

And I did kick it. This car has caused me more headaches then I could count. I just want it to run so I can sell the pos. I've decided to part it out then sell the rest for scrap. Unfortunately civics are all too common in the scrap yard so the parts won't make me any money to recoup the amount I've put into it over the years. Shoulda went with that subaru..

Why would you replace the coil on a new distributor?

That sounds like a shitty deal - good luck.

If the distributor is fairly new, I'd also look into fuel pressure, as well as the main relay.

Also, perhaps not applicable, but my old Accord used to sputter out after ignition, and that was due to a horrendously dirty IACV.

Do you have a vacuum leak? My Jetta had a pretty bad leak, and it would barely run, sometimes died while idling.

Check up on the cleanliness of your intake system, if it's full of shit, your car will be shit.

Fuel filter might be clogged, I'd look into that too, not enough pressure + EFI = no start.

Due to the fact that you admitted to it actually running for a limited amount of time, I'd place my bet on a fuel issue.

RG's Dyno give low numbers to start with, nothing to be disappointed about. Stock FRS/BRZ put down somewhere between 125-130whp.

320icar

Peak was 187whp/225tq which is very low. Stock ST's in the states put down 230/265 very commonly so it's quite a drop. Granted it was very hot out. We did a 4th gear pull which is the closest to 1:1 but it made less power due to the CPU taking the tuning out of optimal specs. So we did the power pull in 3rd.

I usually am a chevron 94 guy (for instances like a dyno) but to a friends suggestion I went with shell 91. Possibly bad gas? It would be a reason for the car to pull timing. But that's okay. Once I put some mods on it the gainz will seem more cray

I started with my e36.. then M5, 3 then the clown shoes etc etc. I accumulated all of the BMW I have owned.

Advantage of that... surprisingly a lot of common parts and procedures.
Downside of that... you need more than a few parking spaces, battery tenders and most importantly a well stock cache of parts.

I don't think the BRZ/FRS is that horrible in city traffic.. how once you have passed abbotsford you are better off with a 6 cylinder.

Shit that's pretty impressive, I was reading up on it a bit and seems like gas mileage gets worse. What about power increase on a stock tune? Make a difference?

IMASA

E85 is oxygenated fuel and has less energy, so you need to spray more of it compared to regular gas. This will mean you get shitty fuel economy but more power because you can run more timing/boost without knock. For my car, I have to scale my MAF curve +~9% to compensate in order to maintain my AFR's.

On a stock tune, if you are not having knock issues with 94, then E85 won't necessary help you. If you can't modify your tune to compensate for the increased fuel requirements, you probably can't run much E85 anyways. My speed3 can run up to a 50/50 mix of E85 without having problems with the CDFP with E85. I'm running a 25% mix just to get my feet wet with E85 tuning.

08-03-2014, 12:52 PM
Curious as well how it is effecting your fuel mileage. Moar power is great, but fuel mileage is a large concern with e85. buying in the WA is a pain, but only $1.10/L so it balances out the fuel consumption.

I'm changing my Dinan tune to the JB4 now that we have E85 locally. Can't wait to take advantage of this. Easy power.

IMASA
08-03-2014, 01:27 PM
Here's a poor comparison of 94 vs E85 mix with 94 using my old data logs and Vdyno. The logs were taken years apart at different temps, but the point to illustrate is that you can make pretty awesome power with an E85 mix vs straight up 94, but at the expense of fuel economy.

On the 94 I was targeting ~18psi and ~6 degrees of timing at redline. This was a safe tune on 94 with no knock. My car was knock limited on 94.

On 25% E85 + 94 + methanol, I was targeting ~ 20psi and ~14 degrees of timing at redline. This is my methanol injection tune. I didn't get any knock.

https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3881/14819237294_b52e34b82c_b.jpg

Methanol injection can work just as well as E85, but the factory fuel system is far more robust than aftermarket meth kits.
Being my first time dealing with E85, I guess I'll find out if it's worth the hassle of driving out to West Vancouver to get it and having to mix the fuel.

08-03-2014, 02:25 PM
Hmm good to know, I know my cars running like shit right now anyway and needs a tune. Was more so wondering if there would still be an increase in power. I'm not so worried about gas mileage, more thinking about the benefits of using it at the track.

A driving instructor with 30 years of racing experience was commenting on how "set up" my car felt on the track when he drove it at pacific raceways with me in the passenger seat. Coils, and PSS were the only drivability mods on my car at the time. I also couldn't get fast enough to get my ABS to kick in in the hard braking turn in test. Partly due to the fact my car is slow as fuck and didn't have a huge run in to it, and partly due to the fact the tires just wouldn't lose grip. You wont be dissatisfied. Keep in mind you are coming from a great set of tires before though. The wet is where you will really notice the difference.

Plus double clutch shifts faster...and makes a sweet car farting noise on the upshift that you don't get with the manual gearbox. I can yell "MISSSSSFIRRRINGGGG SYSTEMUUUU!" every time. (Yes, I know it isn't the same thing.)

Autoglym SRP + HD Wax Beading. MR2. - YouTube

Autoglym SRP followed by HD wax.
Hands down the most hydrophobic wax I've used since Zaino, but cheaper and more user friendly.

Pre Polish, I washed with Meguiars Gold Class, followed by claybar.

Polish/Wax was done by hand, as the paint was already in great condition, apart from a few rock chips.

HD wax is supposed to just edge out egp in durability since egp is supposed to be a sealant.

Wonder if I can egp over the wax... Apparently the wax can be layered for more gloss.

You want to use a sealant under wax, otherwise the wax will break down first and take the sealant with it.

edit: just read up on HD wax and it's not a true carnauba, egp and HD wax appear to be similar products so there's no point of using them both.

Had to drive the car 200km only a couple hours after resealing the trim, hence the painters tape.

Also cleaned the IAC and air intake sensor, as well as fixed a leak in the coolant overflow hose. Oh, and reseated the headlights. The previous owner fucked it up some how...

Fumoto valves are awesome. I have it on my car now and it makes oil changes a breeze. No need for new crush washers or making a mess. I have the one with the short nipple so draining is as easy as attaching a hose to the end, flipping the switch and draining directly into the jug. No pan, no mess.

Also got an Autometer tri-gauge dash mount on order to hold my Boost/Vac, Oil Pressure and A/F gauges.

And, yes... I'm aware my car is dirty as hell. It's going to be parked in a week for a month while I do some work on it, so I'm not overly concerned about how clean it is. :p

Thinking quite hard about either chipping the current ECU or simply running a stand alone management system in the near future. Would certainly make upgrading the turbo and adding a sprayer a lot simpler.

Got tired of the Cherokee and GTFour not running right so I built a boost leak tester to check for intake leaks, turns out the Cherokee had a popped O2 sensor fuse (wish I knew that before I bought new relays) but no leaks and the GTFour had a couple boost leaks from clamps that had loosened off and a shitty BOV.

Tightened the clamps, replaced the "SSQV-style" BOV with a legit HKS SSQV and it's running nearly perfectly now.

Well there's a few laws at play, you've got the max/min height of lights law and then you have the total number of lights law. If you've only got a couple lights and they're near the height of your headlights you're probably fine, if you have a lot of lights or they're high/low you might need to cover them.

Nice! I didn't know you had polished the timing cover and stuff as well.

Looks awesome.

Also, that stack of papers in that pouch is for almost all the work I've done to this car in 18 months :heckno:

22181Apartment car restoration. Polished valve cover.
Before and after. It's no show winning polish job so I doubt I'll protect it just yet.

I'm tempted to do this with dimmed red LEDs.

Good progress today. Cut, bent and flared my rear lines today and installed the stainless hoses. Installed one side of some sway bar end links I pieced together. Started on the front lines but realized I was making bubble flares instead of double flares so I'm going to have to redo that process.

I'm tempted to do this with dimmed red LEDs.

Just use one of those LED kits with a controller. That way you can dim them as you like, change the colours, make them strobe, and best of all, they can be turned off when you don't want them.

Spent 3 hours total washing polishing and restoring the plastic panels with Meguiar's Back to Black (stuff is magic in a bottle).

Then later in the evening, popped the hood open and attempted to re-aim the headlights, the driver's side HID ballast burnt out as soon as I flicked on the lights and started smoking like mad. Pulled out both HID bulbs and electrical taped up all the unplugged connectors, stuck my old halogens back in as a temporary measure until the new ballast arrives.

:fuuuuu:

I hate when shit breaks.

Re-installed the PCM in my 2014 Ram that has 2600kms on it, so I could drive the thing again. Thanks Diablosport, it was nice having a 50k paperweight in my driveway for 7 days.
