PSS were my favorite until I decided to go for the stanced look with a bit of strech/poke. The shoulders were to square, hard to get a flush fitment with these without rubbing and not having to do fender work.

However, nothing can compare with PSS when its dry out, it's aight in the rain but hankooks/falkens/contis are FAR better in the rain.

I got mine from Costco. They had a promotion that just ended on the 2nd of July with ~$15 off per tire + (can't remember exactly) either free or reduced installation price including balancing, plus free tire rotation for the life of the tire.

Is this the Canadian or US Costco?

Noran

Canadian Costco.

235/45/17

$1,062 taxes in with installation package.

They're significantly cheaper in the states. Just gave a quick look at tire rack and they were about $60 less per tire. However, I'd rather deal locally and avoid the hassle of bringing them across the border, exchange rate etc.

That's not bad. It cost me $1,130 shipped to Point Roberts for a pair each of 235/35/19 and 265/30/19. Plus 12% taxes.

You're probably better off. The dollar is shyte, no border crap and no hassle with Costco.

Just because it's not a specialty shop, I'd make a point to take pics of the rims, tell the service advisor you did so and to be extremely careful with them. Not sure if they use torque wrenches or torque sticks but I'd also request they use the former.

Not today but whatever... more like Wednesday (dis-assembly & waiting for parts) and Thursday nights (re-assembly)

My "hose from hell" had enough of my shit and decided to let go. It's a coolant line for the oil cooler that's underneath the turbo and is known to go. Was gonna drain out all the old coolant but decided to do it another day. Settled with topping it off and bleeding it for now. Lost so much coolant that I emptied out a jug just topping it off :lawl: Used about a third of the second jug to bleed it. My car takes about 12L of coolant because mid-engine :okay:

Wasn't as bad as I thought but it was no walk in the park either. I never want to do that again. I took the oil cooler off instead of the turbo though.

This tool also sped things up with getting the clamps off in hard to reach places like the bypass hose that was underneath the thermostat housing:

Yeah I noticed that too. I'm going to do rotors in a month or so, so I'll deal with it then. Pretty surprised the coils look that shitty already. Although, I turned the locking collar on both sides (not the perch) when I saw how haggard they were but they still spun freely surprisingly.

The weird part is that it connects a metal pipe that is bolts to the motor to another metal pipe that is bolted to the motor. There's several little hoses like that on those motors and I can't for the life of me figure out why they even exist.

I'll see how much it costs when I get around to it. No real rush though. Not sure if I'll be fixing them to run them again, or fixing them to sell them though. I know lots of people aren't big fans of them, but I definitely like them more than any of the stock wheels. I think in person you can see the quality of the wheels which adds to the overall package. In photos they are kinda plain looking.

DIY question (figure this is a good place to ask)

My battery has been draining completely dead every several days (has happened twice now) I figure I needed a new battery but this last time that it drained after I charged it back up the Alarm has stopped working

The led wont blink, the remote doesn't work (stopped) but since the alarm stopped working I haven't had a complete battery drain issue yet although its just been a couple days

So my question is, is it the battery or has something gone wrong with the alarm ?

Not uncommon for aftermarket alarms to drain the shit out of batteries so that's what could be happening

Get it properly diagnosed first thought before you drop money on a new battery
Posted via RS Mobile

Is there a fuse for the alarm? I'd take it to Soundsgood for a diagnosis. Chances are, yeah, the alarm was draining the batt.

Reset everything.
Charge battery.
Unplug ground to battery.
Hold brakes for 5-15 seconds.
Re-plug battery.

If that doesn't work, bring it to Sounds Good.
I drained my battery after accidently leaving the lights on overnight. Boosted it, then the turbo timer or Alarm was acting up, and I couldn't turn off the car. Key out and Turbo Timer off, still drove. Weird.

Brought it to Sounds Good while it was still on, and had to stall it out in thier lot. They fixed it in no time.

So I had actually totally ignored this Alarm problem :seriously: and lived without a working alarm since I barely use the celica anymore.

Anyhow the alarm hasn't worked since then...until the other day I had taken the car out and stopped at Broadway & ... (can't remember the intersection i said i would but i forgot my god) anyway while driving through and stopping at the light of this particular intersection something causes my door locks to lock/unlock and make my alarm Beep repeatedly (it doesnt work remember but it beeps here) until I drove away from the intersection
after this incident my alarm works again, everything about it works like before... :fulloffuck: I had driven through the area again yesterday and it did the same thing at the same intersection (i know i should really remember the cross st. but i cant)

I've had an incident in the past where when driving by Lougheed Hwy & Coast Meridian (now the Meridian Connector) something would activate my alarm in the same way too (this is before the construction completed the update to the area)

I really should bring it in to have it looked at :lol

This is one of the best mods I've done so far especially since I touch the steering wheel all the time. The new wheel is as thick as the M3 wheel and the alcantara just feels so good in my hands.

I also ordered the alcantara steering wheel trim to go with the wheel but it arrives later this week.

What numbers did you get this year? I'm surprised it's still managing to pull some good numbers on the original motor!

If you have time, get a vacuum leak test or swap the boost controller. I suspect the one that's in there may not be very reliable. And yes, heat soaking will muddle its output. If you haven't installed the Berk intercooler, I suggest you do that before next year's dyno day. ;)

Fuck you but I do miss this car. :okay: #regrets

Take care of it, plz.

Last year I got 198 whp / 19x wtq w/out the Intercooler @ 11psi.
188 @ 10PSI w/ Intercooler this year.

I guess the factory sidemount flows just as well as the Berk, assuming 10 hp/PSI as a rough estimate. Also assuming that heatsoak was not a factor, as it was parked for 4 hours before it got onto the dyno. The Thermostat was unplugged to kick on the e-fans for the bay, and intercooler set to pull.

This morning at 5am, it got upto about 12PSI.. I think it's time for a cheapo MBC until I go Megasquirt/AEM.

The car itself still drives the same. The only minor annoyance would be the clutch pressure constantly going limp, then back to stiff, for no apparent reason. There's no air in the lines, as I've bled it twice this season with ATE Yellow. DOT4 fluid. Randomly goes limp in the morning, stiffens up mid-drive, then goes soft again before parking. Clutch slave and master have no leaks.

Quick question:
Is it still on the original clutch? No slips, I just don't want to prematurely upgrade and find tons of life left on it.

Good thing you asked. I know for a fact the previous owner (before me) had done the timing belt/water pump but not the clutch. I'm positive the clutch is still original OE Toyota from the factory!

I checked the wiring for the lights on the bike before I redo the connections for the LED brake/turn signals the PO added, turns out both turn signals are tied together so whichever way you signal you get both sides going :heckno:. Then I noticed the headlight was burnt out, I go to pull it and some idiot removed the brackets and GLUED A BULB IN :rukidding:. They also chopped off the plug and put on three individual crimp connectors so it's impossible to plug it in properly.

A picture showing the difference in thickness between the stock sport steering wheel and the BMW Performance one:

This is one of the best mods I've done so far especially since I touch the steering wheel all the time. The new wheel is as thick as the M3 wheel and the alcantara just feels so good in my hands.

I also ordered the alcantara steering wheel trim to go with the wheel but it arrives later this week.

A 265/30 on a 9" wheel is WAAAAY better off than a 265/30 on an 11" wheel... Ideal size for that 9" would be a 255/30 or a 255/35, on an 11" wheel more like a 305/315... 265 is way stretch...

CEL popped up at autocross on Sunday. Plugged in my laptop after my run to figure out what it was since the car wasn't in limp mode or acting strange at all. Same code as last time - daughter board communication failure, low voltage when cranking. I just got a new battery and I checked my alternator and it was fine. Additionally I was at a/x so I was revving the piss out of my car with no accessories on so my battery shouldn't be low on juice. Last night I was rummaging around forums and Hondata recommends changing the ECU ground from the intake manifold to the valve cover stud. Re-uploaded my calibration and the CEL went away. :fuckyeah: I thought it was only recommended to change the ground if there was a K20a swap involved.

Also, installed rear wiper delete - thanks to ICE BOY for the hookup on OEM Honda plug. For those of you who browse chat and see him talking about butt plugs and "flip's jizz hole", that's what he's talking about :lol

M5 for $14k? Realistically how much would that thing cost to run?

godwin
07-02-2014, 12:22 AM
I don't think $14k is realistic for a post facelift M5.

How much it cost me to run my M5?:
For my M5 (at a baseline condition, ie everything works and runs well), I would say it cost me about $500 for fluid changes and filters. I send half a dozen samples (from engine, all the way to the diff) to Blackstone every year and change when they tell me to (they get so many samples and I feel they can advise me better than I can do myself or even BMW, which don't collect the data). I store my cars indoors with temperature range from 5C to 20C, I would also add, UV and temperature variances makes a huge difference on the life of your plastic components, so consider that because as well in your ownership, as a lot of cooling parts are plastic. The fluid replenishing rate is once every 2 years about 5k driven annually. $300 for valve adjustments, plugs and gaskets etc, annually. All DIY. I don't track my car, I don't modify suspension in my car either, just replace them with OE (Castrol, ATE and BMW fluids and Mahle filters) parts. The only mod I recommend for pre MOST bus cars is replace the diff with a Quailfe LSD, just for the boundary pushing factor.

However I had spent roughly $1k on M5 (mostly S62) specific tools and references.. cam lock etc. Another $1k for spare parts, I have a spare rebuilt VANOs set (hence my title, as I was caught out without spares once and paid big), rebuilt brake calipers, hoses and tanks all ready to go.

So insurance and gas (PON 91) are my major expenditures. (I edited out Tires because I just checked and I am still on my second set after 8 years).

I don't think M cars are too expensive to own or DIY, as long as you also own BMWs (so you can amortize the parts and tools) and know how they work.

The big difference M vs non M from owner + DIYer perspective is you have to be prepared to pop off the valve cover and access head and gaskets quite regularly, vs for non M it is usually just the filters. If you are squeamish with that, be prepared to pay huge bucks. V8 has an advantage vs the I6 as it is not nestled in so far back, even though you have to get 2x the gaskets, it is easier to work with spatially. Big work surface is always great, DIY M ownership is not recommended for communal parking situations, I find removing the hood saves a lot of time on big jobs.

Realistically, BMWs commonly just use only 5 socket sizes, 3 torx sizes, 2 bit sizes out of a tool set, so it is not about building up general tools but gaining specific knowledge and tools.

M5 for $14k? Realistically how much would that thing cost to run?

Was driving after work, picked up le gf, then got less than a block away and the car went into limp mode. Or worse than that because it felt as though the car was just rolling on idle. Engine would start and then just start to sputter like crazy. Check engine light on, VSA light on and some other lights in the cluster as well.

Car started to sputter insanely. I thought the car had had it, After 220k kms it was done. Pulled over to the side of the road. Called up my brother, gf getting worried and pissed at the same time, lol. Luckily he lived close by and has a reader with him, plugged it in, found out it was the throttle body.

Luckily I had just gotten off of work and had all my tools in the car, took apart the air intake in the car. The intake was missing a piece, it had fallen into the engine bay luckily and we found it. But that wasn't the problem. Looked into the throttle body and there was a crumpled into a ball piece of paper wedged in the throttle body, must have gotten in through the opening after said piece fell off. Got it just in time, it didn't get sucked in or else we would have had a deeper issue to deal with.

Breathed a sigh of relief, pulled the crumpled piece of paper out, put the system back together, car started up no problems! no unwanted warning lights! I was literally shaking on the inside at the thought of my car breaking down, I love it so much and it would have been sad to see it go that way.

The TSX breathes another day, here's to another 100k kms on ole Janet.

Button is slightly closer to one side than the other...that's going to bother me so eventually I'll fix it but I'll put in the rest first. The others will be USB charger (always on even when car is off), dashcam power select (runs only when the car is on or run off battery power when the car is off) and...one more I haven't decided. i stared at my car today... that feeling when there's so much work to do, you end up staring blankly at it and get nothing done.

Nice!

Did you do the coding yourself or someone else did it? Or did you use the BMWhat app or other app?

I did it via NCS

What I've done over the past couple of days.

Changed spark plugs and found oil on the plugs. I guess i have to do a valve cover gasket change in the near future.

This weekend I thought I would replace my clutch.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v104/boibuddha/20140712_150325_zps3b3785d7.jpg
Good thing I didn't put it off any longer. Yikes.

This was supposed to be my new clutch.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v104/boibuddha/20140712_150334_zps1f81817a.jpg
Funny thing is that the mounting holes didn't line up.

So I started to second guess the parts I ordered online.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v104/boibuddha/20140712_150345_zpsb6aca245.jpg
Nope. Part number matches up with my year and trim of car.

I check out the transmission and discover the previous owner swapped in an 1989 tranny (my car is a 1990 model). The give away was the number of grooves on the input shaft. There is no way to tell what transmission i had from the outside until i opened her up. Now I'm off to pick up a clutch locally for an arm and a leg.

I had someone do it for me. $80 for unlimited coding.

Retrofitted LED amber turns into my side mirrors and added carbon fiber mirror caps to match my CF speed3 spoiler. There are easier ways to get LED turn side mirrors than retrofitting, but I wanted to retain my heated mirror and BSM functionality.

ran out of time and couldn't wax it. i plan to do that tonight, so i guess i'll be washing it again LOL. the wheels are horrible though. they were completely clean after my wax. and after a 7km drive (mostly highway) home from my folks place where i washed it, a quick swipe of my wheels left me with a finger full of brake dust. fuck OEM ford pads...
