Upgraded my dash cam memory card. I had no idea it was only 4 gigs (the one that came with the camera). Turns out with all my random saved videos, I was only able to record about 10-15 minutes of continuous footage lol
Hopefully by saving less videos and a bigger card I can actually save a lot more time worth of footage.

I found that the high speed Class 10 micro sd card that i bought (64GB) has nearly the perfect amount of recording space for me. It gets about one full day of continuous plus a little bit more, that gives me enough reassurance that i can wait until the end of the day and pull a video from the morning. Tried a 32GB card and it only kept half a day until overwriting, but it would probably be sufficient for someone who doesn't spend all day on the road. Also found out that the high speed class 10 card needed a reader compatible eith USB 3.0. The USB 2.0 reader couldn't even detect the card.

No pictures but, I swapped out my drilled rotors for (unfortunately) heavier blanks. It's much less squeak, more quiet, thank god. Man sometimes I drive by 320icar's neighborhood, and I'm thinking to myself, "I am so sorry for my brake squeal". Or when everyone has their windows down in the city and all you hear is squeak squeak squeak SQQQQQQQQUUUUUUEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAK.

We used an impact bit + pb blaster to try to get out the 6mm allen screw that holds in the rotor. One came off fine, the other ones were stuck. I gave in and decided to buy a torch. Torched the shit out of it and used a 3/8 drive breaker bar to break loose the screw. Worked perfectly.

Still need to do a brake flush tho. I got ATE Type 200 sitting at home, but it turns out I need to bleed in the following order:
- Passenger Rear
- Driver Rear
- CLUTCH
- Passenger Side
- Driver side

I don't know how to bleed the clutch, so I might just take it to a shop, especially with BMW's very particular system.

Not sure, but I've heard that if you screw up the brake bleed, you'll have to get it towed to a shop that has BMW diagnostic equipment to do an electronic bleed for the ABS systems.

The Cummins-swapped Chevy truck developed a weird electrical issue at Rocky Mountain rally. Traveling over one of the gravel roads to the stage, the wipers started actuating on their own. The left turn signal would come on at random...and at night, the headlights would randomly turn on and glow dimly. Sigh.

The truck is a bit of a wiring nightmare, having all the GM 6.5L engine harness still in the engine bay, with the six or so wires I need hooked up. The old "I'll get to it one day" problem. This weekend I pulled out the wiring diagram, and found the various areas all the problem circuits share...turns out its a single ground splice. Hmmm, can't be the ground. Pulled the harness under the dash apart, and both engine and accessory harness apart in the engine bay to trace the wiper wires. No shorts, no breaks, no problems. Wipers still have a mind of their own. Pulled the steering column apart, replaced the combination switch (which sucks). $125, wipers still have a mind of their own. The circuit control board can be a problem in the chevy's, so I pulled it out and resoldered the board. Problem seems better, but wipers still have a mind of their own. About 50% better. Replaced the control board with a new one ($40) and...wipers still have a mind of their own. Turn signals too. Tore the front end trim off the truck, disassembled and checked the turn signal wiring harness. No faults found. And that's when I saw it...

What is that mark on the radiator?! Oh gee. Apparently my left battery, while tight and secure, is not that tight and secure...sure enough, the positive battery terminal has left some short marks on the side of the radiator. Loosened the battery, touched it to the radiator...wipers flip on. WTH? You know how they say first step of any electrical work is to disconnect the battery? I rarely do...but had I DONE it this time, I could have saved myself the day! After a full day and $165, I solved the problem with an old bike tube, and some zip ties. Sigh.

More to come but I ****ed up the sound suppression chamber so I’m not driving it right now. Right now fender to ground is 1” over stock, but that is just the tire height. Suspension seems to not have lifted it at all. Everything’s need to be broken in and go for an alignment. The stiffness is much improved though

Ended up getting Aria to do my brake and clutch bleed, as well as my engine/trans mounts. Engine mounts were split in half for both, I guess that explains the lurching and the thump.

But holy shit, for anyone with a daily questioning (95A) poly engine mounts - don't do it. Jesus christ i should have listened to the masses. I feel like I just got tumbled in a washing machine.

Yeah I did both engine and trans mount in 95a. I actually wanted to go with the vorshlag preferred, I believe it was 80a all round, but Nick (you know which one) recommended pairing the RTD shifter with 95a or Group N mounts.

Just saw this. I got used to it, kind of. Drive back from track day and immediately into a quiet house was interesting. It was unusual to not hear everything rattling.

Vibrations only seem to be bad on cold start and idle. At higher RPMs it sounds cool, I don't even need an exhaust! I put the interior back in and its definitely much quieter than before.

Drivetrain slop has almost been completely eliminated, I just need new diff and subframe mounts. For the most part, the car pulls hard and the shifter performed perfectly on track.

After getting lucky by driving like an old lady for the last month and a half the injector seal on my Jeep totally failed again so I got to spend 2 hours changing the same one that has plagued me for a year. Doing more digging into the corners of the internet I had found out about a Honda injector seal that's thicker and made of softer copper so it *should* be more durable (thank you forums!). We'll see how it holds long term, I've got 7 spares of the Honda seal because they're from a Euro-only diesel Accord so shipping sucked.

On the plus side while working on it I had someone come up who's interested in buying my car. He's only 7 so I'm not getting my hopes up but some kids are crazy spoiled with their allowances so who knows.

Mmmmm skidplates. How thick is it? I'm hoping to make one in a few months.

Today I roughed out my front spacers and reassembled one front strut. The way it goes together sucks if you're using spring compressors but I managed to get everything more or less lined up properly.

A problem I ran into is I noticed that the inner bearing of the Cusco camber plate doesn't fit snugly on the strut shaft like the stock style mounts do. There's a pretty sizeable gap that has me a bit concerned, should the clamping force of the nut be enough to keep it in the right place or should I ditch the plates and go back to stock style mounts?

edit: digging through my old messages from when I bought these ages ago they're supposed to have spacers to fit the stock shaft which I clearly lost. Fuck sakes.

By far the easiest fix on a BMW, ever. Took me less than 5 mins to do it. Pop off shifter (2 Allen keys - not a standard BMW thing), squeeze the sides of the shift boot, take off shift boot, remove 2 Phillips screws, disconnect 2 plugs, push the clip up and away from the trim piece for driver side window switch, remove and replace.

Snagged from an XRS the oe fog lamp combination switch, adjustable intermittent wipers, cruise control stalk and steering wheel bezel and neutral cancel switch, fog lamp relay. Like some $30 at the pick&pull. And got some Depo fog lamps for $50 ea, rather than OE for $300 ea. All the wiring is there.
I'm pretty sure the wiring for the 120VAC inverter is in there too, all it needs is the switch and the outlet plug. Just take it from a Pontiac Vibe lol i think they were all equipped with the inverter and the fog lamps.

Post rallycross inspection. So far the damage report is

- rear diffuser all tabs broken, held on by the rear towhook
- front lower bumper ripped out, tabs broken
- one intercooler mounting tab broken
- clunking from the rear end. 99% sure sway bar mounts or endlinks but everything is torqued ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
- front tires got chewed up real good! Felt super soft on the drive home, had to rotate for sure

Finally got around to replacing the cracked aftermarket y pipe in the g with a nice minty fresh oem unit that I've been rolling with in the trunk for about a year. Figured while I'm in there I'd install some resonated test pipes since as far as my research showed, the cats were a major contributor to the oil consumption issue plaguing these vq's.
God what an awful sound those test pipes made.
Next day swapped the cats back in. Got that nice oem drone now.

perfectly compliments the skidplate, and shouldn't be damaging my motor anytime soon from rocks.

I've always curious about these skid plates, bumper bars etc. Since all the cars come out of the factory designed in a way to reduce pedestrian injury etc. Does someone have any additional recourse to sue you personally if they were struck by a car with a skid plate hanging out like that?

If that thing is strong enough to hold 200lb, that thing is going to cut your damn legs off if it hit you. I've always been curious from a liability standpoint.

I see jeeps roll around with the big wrap-around metal grills all the time. Can someone sue the fuck out of you if you smoke someone with those on your car since the Jeep owner pretty much-wrapped iron pipes around the soft plastic bumper? I mean, it's not that much different that me welding a spike to the front of my Astro van.

*anything* that alters a vehicle has an inherent risk to it. Whether a Jeep running around with a stinger front bumper, a tow truck with an aftermarket winch, a track car with a splitter, a basic 99 Honda Civic that’s lowered (and thus changes pedestrian contact area when hit).

Best thing you can do is not be stupid, be honest if you get into an accident and be a defensive driver

I was a little iffy at first as well but after about 30 mins of watching what it does, I actually have more faith in OpenPilot than the factory LKAS system. The only crappy thing is my car doesn't steer below 60kph so I'm pretty much limited to using this on the highway. I was hoping to use it to crawl Low Level Road on my way home from work... LOL

This is far from a consumer product. It's still in the dev stage and it actually does a lot of data collection. It uploads your driving footage for you to review and explain why you took control or disengaged in certain situations. It lets the system learn how people actually drive.

If you have a compatible car and you like to mess around with it then give it a shot. If you want a self driving car then it's not for you... lol. It's still only Level 2 autonomy. You still have to be alert and aware of your surroundings and be ready to take control. It's basically Cruise Control 3.0.

!LittleDragon

It's not an app, they're just using a phone for the dev platform at the moment. It's easier than designing your own hardware when they need to design the software first. I'm guessing the final consumer product will be much more consumer friendly to install.

Drove a VW Atlas this weekend - the blind spot assist was wayyy too sensitive and would shake the steering to 'warn' me when I tried to change lanes even when I was a car length ahead of the one in the other lane.

No way to adjust the sensitivity (but you can in a Hyundai) and no way to turn off the steering shake.

Are you getting a misfire under boost? Do you have a vacuum advance distributor that is not meant to handle positive manifold pressure and moving the timing curve way too much

Are you getting a misfire under boost? Do you have a vacuum advance distributor that is not meant to handle positive manifold pressure and moving the timing curve way too much

It’s going lean underboost. Fuel starvation has been my #1 thought, but I ran a big gap (0.045) with my LS coils. They should be able to handle my current boost but it was worth a try just in case. Building a surge tank to eliminate any fuelling issues. No distributor, all timing is via my ECU mapping, crank and cam triggers.

(Spark blowout aka misfire will show as lean on a datalog)

The picture of what I think is the front assembly has me thinking, just how universal are the core coilover parts between brands? I know springs are mostly all the same diameter, are the dampers the same diameter with the same thread on them? I'm half curious if I could take a pair of those fronts and toss the camber plates and lower mounts off my BC's on them and away I go.

These are inverted monotube, so I don’t think they would be compatible with B.C. racing stuff. That being said they’re all made in Taiwan so you never know.

Btw these are about $3500usd so it’s not a good idea to chop these up lol

I've got the RM Type which is inverted monotube as well, though I'd probably buy a second set of uppers and lowers so I'm not sitting there spinning dampers for ages every time I want to swap setups lol. Ones for a Subaru would probably be closer in length/dampening/etc. I'm mostly just thinking out loud but I'm guessing somebody out there must know if the guts are generic.

3 way gravel spec coilovers installed. Still in storage on my track wheels so don’t think I can get to tuning/adjusting any time soon. Previously I was on oem shocks/springs with 30mm strut spacer kit. As it sits right now, the rear is as low as possible. The front is as low as possible via shock body adjustment, and spring preload was set to ~+5mm prior to install. So it’s as low as can be while maintaining full shock travel.

Definitely needs an alignment, and I’ll need to either raise the rear or lower the front. But progress! Slowly but surely. (Orange before, bronze after). Driving home I could hit speed bumps at 70 and not even feel them, even with the track tires on.

You'll still get a CEL light from the o2 sensors unless you have a tuner disable them. If the exhaust is visually inspected, then there is certainly a catalytic converter. If they take a sample of whats coming out of the tail-pipe, then definitely you won't pass. The 100 cell cat is nice though as it is able to clean enough that it doesn't smell like gas fumes.

I didn't get to drive it back-to-back (though I'm tempted to flash it back to stock just to try that) but to me yeah it feels much more responsive. There's still the usual lag from an automatic trans but at least now it isn't compounded by the turbo lag. Driving my usual commute I haven't been able to feel any lag in the spots it used to be very noticeable. The temps just dropped so fuel economy comparisons will be a little off but I'm curious to see if it helps as much as people say.

I get the driveshaft part, but why not headers? Is it because the potential for seized on nuts is too high? Or are the headers on your particular car too awkward to get to?

(Honest question. I thought about doing the headers on my fox bodied mustang when I was a kid, but couldn't afford them in the end. It didn't occur to me it would be a hard operation at the time)

The 3rd annual big white trip with friends to go watch the Winter Rally stage of the CRC. Got a beautiful place as usual with hot tub overlooking the hairpin at the top of the mountain. We didn’t bother bringing any ski gear as the weekend said blah for weather and only 3 runs opens.

Fog was insane on the 97c as usual then borderline unedrivable up the mountain. Couldn’t even see the concrete in front of the car. Ended up snowing about 6” of great powder. Sooooo much fun to drive on. I most certainly didn’t drift every single hairpin up and down the mountain....

As usual I didn’t do much in the way of photo taking. There are lots of people with real camera gear, you don’t need to see my cell phone shots. Most of the regular cars weren’t there this event which was odd. Still a bunch of sick entrants though. make sure to watch 1080p

Sunday morning and curbed my lovely front wheel, luckily it has metal rim protector, didn't hurt the wheel at all. Spent the afternoon fixing the wheel and installed the Toyota Camry front splitter.

Just saw this - sorry.

nobody Glass Fiber Wrap their headers anymore?

Idk what that is but most people heat wrap (reflective vinyl/mesh/cloth or smt) or some kind of ceramic

Potential for seized nuts are pretty high, even with a torch. When a shop did my driveshaft bushings (guibo), they snapped/seized several exhaust bolts. It's pretty much a given.

But to answer your question, in the E46, it's just a PITA to get to or try to do on your back with your car on jack stands. I'd probably have a different tune if I had a hoist I could stand under LOL.

Hell a hoist would have made changing front control arms way easier. Imagine an upside down turtle on it's shell - that was me for 8 hours LOL

I had limited time Christmas Eve so I pulled the sohc and related parts, need to overhaul the ITR trans and swap the B in in the next couple of days. I’ll likely livestream that too.

PPF is amazing. Followed a taxi on a highway, its hubcap came off and hit on my front fender (I guess 80km/h as I hit the brake hard) then bounced on the windshield. The fender was all scratched up, then 5 minutes later everything healed up.

Certain VPD actions have me wary of posting in this thread any longer. But, I managed to find some time to assemble this unit for my new project...will need to machine at least one new steel mount, but this is perfect for confirming fit and any issues.

Cool pedals, looks $$

Do you think the VPD are looking at this thread? Or are you afraid of posting illegal mods. Short of open wheeled I think you could get away with a ton of stuff on your VW and they wouldn't take a second glance.

It's more about having an active record of modifications in an easy to find spot. I'm quite comfortable that the way I build my cars is safe, and if I do go outside the lines it's in a fashion I'm well aware of.

But yeah, I'm pretty stoked on the pedals. We won't discuss the cost. :heckno:

As another option, Revlimiter makes nice gauge faces for a decent price. Ordered a set for my NA years ago and they were great quality. Never got around to installing them though...

DrM6ix

It's been great so far and it's an amazing car. That being said, I purchased it with 70,000kms and full service history. I probably wouldn't have bought a V10 M5/M6 with higher mileage and no service records.

General maintenance and wear/tear items is more expensive because this car either takes a lot more of it (i.e. oil/fluids), or uses bigger parts (i.e. brakes, tires, etc...).

Little update on the last few days. Bought a sewing machine, and attempting to redo the interior in my boat. I have never touched a sewing machine before, and haven’t tried sewing anything since the frog in home ec in grade 6. I spent a week cleaning and adjusting the old machine, figured out how it works and started trying to do straight lines. After about 10 hours of youtube I got to work. Here is an “almost” finished project. The rear bench is rested on the table with foam inserted(old foam). It’s not stapled at all so it should tighten up really nicely when done (waiting on backing fabric and need to remake the rotten plywood base). Pretty happy overall... except how I stabbed the Scalpel through the front this morning while cleaning up some threads. That hurt. Not sure what I’ll do yet, either repair or start over (as it was the first piece and there is room for improvement).

Enjoy... gotta love youtube.

Used a combination of tracing the old pattern, and just starting fresh. The vinyl is so stretch it was hard to get a decent base pattern. Corners are next yikes.

Update on the brakes, I got them bled, pulled out of the driveway and heard a horrible noise while feeling a bunch of drag on the drivetrain. Pulled everything back apart and one of the slider tubes on the new caliper is slightly too short so the end of the bolt ground into the rotor. Swapped the bolt from my stock caliper onto it with an extra washer and hopefully all is well now.

Drove to cache creek for ice racing, but the insane amount of rain in 48h flooded the lake and covered all the ice in a foot of water. Was too dangerous and had to cancel the event Saturday morning.

Of course highway 1, highway 3 and highway 5 were all closed due to rock slides and flooding. So we were stuck there. Spent the day walking around historic Ashcroft. My wife was very disappointed. Didn’t get to race her Flex, and got 3 rock chips. I also cracked my windshield..

One benefit of having a lifted car, I was able to finally adjust the exhaust so it won't hit the rear crossmember and I didn't have to jack up the car at all, I can slide mostly under it.

brand new? already has scratch on the lip?

It was used, about $2K USD, so pretty much a steal. It only has that one little scratch you see there. It was gonna come with tires, but I don't want to deal with the headache of trying to sell them here.

The ZE40, from what I know, is actually discontinued, since I've been looking for 18" in 5x120 spec for the past 2 years. Typically, 5x120 fitment is 19", so when I found this, I had to get this.

18x8.5 +30
18x9.5 +40

I would have loved to have gotten a square set up, because track, but at 18lbs a wheel and in exactly the style I want - it was pretty much no brainer.

Oh, I also picked up a 4 point harness that mounts to factory points (pic was for show and not run on street) and Vorshlag camber plates.
