Mr Clean Magic Eraser does wonders... cleans and brightens up 17 year old leather to a 'like new' finish and gets rid of those nasty stains :fullofwin:

Lowballed the fuck out of the guy.

Ended up going from a Steal, to a decent deal.:notbad:

And by lowball, I mean I offered him half of what he was asking.

Don't know if that counts for this thread...

I thought I was just going to swap a cylinder head today (burned valve). The replacement was suuuper clean from what I remembered (still silver up top, not even oil stained) but I never bothered looking at the valve faces. When I went to clean the bottom of the head for the new gasket..... fuuuuuu .......massive amounts of carbon deposits. I mean enough to raise the compression ratio a fair bit. The head was rebuilt but came off a high mileage motor with worn rings, that was burning a lot of oil.

Anyways, a couple of hours later, all the valves were cleaned, both mating surfaces prepped, everything assembled and tuned, easy peasy, car runs good again.

Hmmm...no wonder it idled like a lawnmower

Mine gets over 500km to a tank mixed driving

Just to continue the mileage portion of this thread, my auto 2.5L gets 11.54L/100km when I drive it like a grandma (keeping it under 3k RPMs - I only drive ~20km a day in city traffic). A full tank is ~51L (87 octane) and that gets me ~440kms. I had to purposefully drive like a grandma for a full tank to get that mileage.

My GTI 337 (1.8T - 6spd) used to get ~450kms per tank which worked out to roughly the same mileage (~12L/100kms) using 91 octane but I got that with a combo of regular spirited driving and hypermiling.

I miss my 337. :okay:

I do have to remember that my 2.5 is an auto and it's also a wagon (heavier) so that's two strikes against fuel economy. But it just sucks to have to drive slow to get the same mileage.

Installed new speakers into the Element. Pioneer TS-A1684R, a great improvement in sound quality compared to the crappy stock speakers.

In other news, after a 1500km drive to San Francisco in scorching heat and intense uphill highway sections at 4000rpm+, idle is sounding a little "tickier" than usual. Probably time for a valve adjustment.

Brakes are also getting worse, warped before the trip, now warped even more and something wrong with the brake fluid/master cylinder causing sudden pressure changes during high speed braking. I suspect deteriorated brake hoses. Going to get it looked at as soon as I return back to Vancouver.

Try unbolting the latch and move it down a bit?

It'll make it so the trunk is being held down lower, and more snug on the Weather Stripping. So when you go to release it, the trunk "Springs" back up.

Worked on 240's.

If I remember correctly, Noble came up with that idea.

It'll make it so the trunk is being held down lower, and more snug on the Weather Stripping. So when you go to release it, the trunk "Springs" back up.

Worked on 240's.

If I remember correctly, Noble came up with that idea.

Thanks for the idea, I did this on my civic as well when the JDM trunk didn't line up properly, not sure why I didn't think of it for my Z lol. I'll give that a try tomorrow :)

Today I ripped out part of the dash on my r33 skyline to carbon fiber wrap. I also bought the wrap and superglue, a total of $27
D.I.Y
Materials needed:
Hairdryer, Vinyl wrap, Shoegoo, sissors/ exacto knife dash and a whole lot of patience.
This is going to be fun!
Will post pics up when I am done.

Unwrapped it.
Shits heavy as fuck.

Welds look decent on it. Im not too worried yet. But it's not like I can haul it to work and redo them. And my Miller 211 can't do it until I switch the 230v socket at home to the proper plug.

Also have to move some shit around to install it. There's a stripped chassis waiting to get stitch welded inthe way. :)

But if hypa or somebody else wants to help me install it on Saturday, PM me. I need a hammer drill.

As you can see, the garage is all fuckity right now. Gotta move a whole bunch of shit out of the way.

And that sectioned part of the garage to the right is full of stuff already.

Good thing I didn't impulse buy that lathe and drill press from some guy I know. Stupid cheap. But.. I have zero room for it.

The plan this year is to remodel the garage. But first, I need to install the lift so I can finish this car.

Then I'll have space to fuck around.

You need shelving and a workbench, badly

Have a work table, and wall mount shelf behind the first pic.

Never had room to organize and make new shelves/tables.

I swear, every car that gets worked on in this garage doesn't leave for 3-6 months. Then when it does, another car goes in.

Well, I did have some room to make stuff. But then the lift came, and it's sitting on 2 pallets. Gonna be cheap and use the wood from that to make more shelves on that side of the garage. Maybe a tire rack, so I don't have to stack them on the ground.

15 minute O2 sensor change for a friend, turned into a 5hr ordeal.

It snapped flush with the exhaust manifold on my buddy's RX7 (FC). Had to remove the air pump, hoses, and 2 port solenoids, just to get to the manifold bolts. Of course the heat sheild and downpipe bolts snapped. Then, since I didn't want to fuck up the threads by drilling it out, I had to break out the hot wrench and use an easyout. Of course that didn't work so I ended up heating what was left of the sensor and collapsed it inside the hole with a punch.

Good times, good times.

$60+ machining, $100 for a clutch disc/ $300 incl. PP and bearing, 3+hrs labour. That's either a really good buddy that's doing you a favour, not a licensed shop, or pure labour cost.

Bolt in vs pressed in. Your wheel bearings only require 4 bolts to be removed to swap the bearing/hub assembly, where as his requires the whole knuckle to be removed and the races pressed out of the knuckle and stub shaft, then new ones pressed in and the knuckle reassembled. There's a huge discrepancy in labour. I could do yours in 1.5 hours in my driveway, his requires a press.

What he was charged is very reasonable and you shouldn't be making the guy feel bad when you don't know what's entailed in the job or you can find people to basically work for nothing.

I guess its not that amazing of a deal, since I'm providing the clutch disc and pressure plate for him, so ya pretty much labor. But I save on paying taxes.
