You don't think the Federal Government can fast track in a pandemic if they want to? We could easily build a facility to make vaccines in 11 months if the funding was there and the Govt. was behind it to allow for a fast track build. The reason everything takes so long is because of permits and approvals, you don't think they could influence that to happen quickly in a situation like this? We can build a new hospital with 100's of rooms from the ground up in 14 months without expediting the build, you don't think we can design and build a laboratory/production facility in 11 months expidited?
There is absolutely no comparison in building a pharmaceutical facility that can produce millions of vials to a hospital with a couple of hundred rooms. Pharmaceutical facility takes years to construct and billions of dollars. You need to construct the facility, procure the necessary equipment, hire and train your personnel, qualify your equipment, validate your process, and have it approved by Health Canada. All of this during pandemic.
I work for a pharmaceutical firm and we had trouble procuring cleanroom supplies (e.g. gloves, masks), cleaning supplies (e.g. Quaternary ammonium, alcohol), and vials because everything was in short supply. We wanted new equipment installed but no one would come on-site for installation and validation because of travel restrictions.
How long does a new drug normally take, test, human trials ect. to get approved after it's already made? years right? How long did the covid vaccines take to create and get approved? Less than a year right? Wait, but that can't be done yet here we have it, how so?
Technically the COVID-19 vaccines are not approved, they are granted emergency use authorization.
In b4 “Hondaracer isn’t a scientist!!”
But my wife’s old company which made a fairly complicated medical device which is inserted into your body had a very nice office/manufacturering facility in the lower mainland. This also included a “clean room” which the assembly is done in. Now this is a smaller private company but this clean room which isn’t that big took months and months to build then you need to test and certify if I believe before you can actually start using it
Again you are demonstrating your complete ignorance of pharmaceutical manufacturing. I agree that you can construct a cleanroom and have it certified within a couple of months. However, you are discounting basically everything else that relates to pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Yeah, Turd is doing an awful job with Covid purchases and distribution.
Having said that, I believe that we should not let "Erin the Tool" off the hook either. The Conservatives, the official Opposition party in Canada, under Erin the Tool put some of their attention on this issue recently.
https://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/o-toole-calls-for-relocation-of-beijing-olympics-due-to-china-s-genocide-of-uighurs-1.5310842
lol what? You can criticize O'toole for other things but why should O'toole be on the hook for a vaccine distribution plan that he did not directly oversee? Unless both parties were given equal opportunities at creating and rolling out a vaccine distribution, how could you say the Cons under O'toole would've done worse?
Really??? Erin the Tool politicizing a sporting event in the winter Olympics in China right in the middle of a pandemic? He is calling the government to ask the IOC to relocate the next winter Olympics from China to another country because of alleged crimes against a minority group in China.
Talk about knowing the priorities in Canada now. Erin the Tool thinks that Canadians really care about where the next winter Olympics will be held in 2024 compared to the pandemic??
You don't think the opposition party can multi-task and raise attention to multiple issues at the same time? You might not care but I do care about where the next Olympics are held. It should not be held in China similar to how the 1936 Summer Olympics should never have been held in Berlin, hosted by Nazi regime, under Adolf Hitler who saw it as an opportunity to promote his government and ideals of racial supremacy. Prior to the 1936 Olympics, Germany has already shown its anti-sematic colors. Have you read about the genocide (mass rape, sterilization, torture, concentration camps etc.) being carried out against the Uighurs before calling it an "alleged crime"? You also do know that China is detaining two Canadian civilians as hostage for over two years as an act of hostage diplomacy? There are many parallels between CCP and Nazi Germany. For one, they want to destroy democracy around the world. First its Hong Kong, similar to how it was first Poland, and next is Taiwan etc. This is not a small issue and if Canada wants to be a world leader, we need to step up and push our allies to confront China together.

It’s cute that you pick apart my posts on some abstract level when the basis of it is just a generalization from my relationships with the people involved in that process. But then you make it sound like I’m trying to come off as some expert in the field.
Of course I’m ignorant to it. I didn’t construct it, I wasn’t there, outside of the general construction aspects I have no inside knowledge of assembling one. My experience is based on a first hand account by Somone who also does not understand every aspect of said procedures.
Why not grace us with your infinite knowledge on the subject? You seem to be the real expert.

Lol, I'm sure you know all about production of vaccines but the fact you actually think it costs billions of dollars to construct a lab shows what little you actually know about the cost of construction.
You realize they are building the new St Pauls Hospital in Vancouver including all furnishings for 2 billion right? I'll give you a lab is going to have some expensive equipment more so than a hospital but I'm talking about a significant sized hospital like top 15 largest in Canada around 550 rooms with a footprint bigger than a multiple football fields and from what I remember around 10 stories high. How big of a lab you think we need?

You're right I have no idea about how long after construction it would take to get up and running after completed, I wouldn't assume years but I'll take your word for it lol.
They are currently building a lab in Saskatoon at the University of Sask. but like I said I feel they left it way to long to get started.

A pharmaceutical manufacturing facility is not a lab. The complexity of a manufacturing site far exceeds that of a lab.

The are a company that manufactures vaccines. The equipment used to make vaccines is not off the shelf. You can't just place an order on Amazon. Knee jerk reactions is not what be need. We need long term plans. Either we pay companies to open up plants in Canada or we rely on government funded research. I don't think the cons would have been happy if 3-4 years ago JT decided to spend billions on research facility's and factories.

This we can agree on, they aren't comparable in cost either the Hospital due to the shear size will cost far more then any facility we'd build to manufacturer vaccines. I stand by what I said, you might know about the manufacturing of vaccines but your knowledge on the cost of building the facilities to produce them is limited. GSK has vaccine production in toronto, also there's another in QC city
Both the co-chairs of the [covid-19 vaccine] task force have conflicts of interest with companies producing the vaccines and the terms of the contracts are being kept secret. Among other things, we don’t know what price Canada is paying for each vaccine, what the timeline for delivery is, whether there are penalties for delays and how the contracts are being enforced, if at all.

50 to 700M USD
Example: It took Pfizer five years and 600M USD to build a manufacturing site in the US [17]
Vaccine manufacturing overview
Vaccine manufacture is one of the most challenging industries. Even the most basic manufacturing steps necessary to produce vaccines in a manner that is safe, effective, and consistent over the life cycle of a vaccine are difficult to execute [7]. Outcomes can vary widely due to the nearly infinite combinations of biological variability in basic starting materials, the microorganism itself, the environmental condition of the microbial culture, the knowledge and experience of the manufacturing technician, and the steps involved in the purification processes. To add to the complexity, the methods used to analyze the biological processes and antigens resulting from vaccine production often have high inherent variability. Failure to manage these risks can result in costly product recalls, and suspensions and penalties may be assessed if a manufacturer fails to fulfil supply agreements. In addition, lack of supply can disrupt routine immunization programs and negatively impact national public health outcomes.

I’m generalizing, but there’s a lot of talk about just making vaccines here from those that said things like “I don’t trust vaccines that come to market that quickly, we don’t know long term side effects.”
Canada was promised a lot of vaccines from various manufactures that seemed like they would have been here in a near instant after approval. Approval happened far quicker than expected leaving no real time to plan for such a vast manufacturing ramp up in a facility that didn’t exist yet. This has been all guessing and gambles from the get go and Canada has done moderately ok. It could have just as easily gone extremely well, or absolutely fucking terrible. We can talk about how fast Belgium is vaccinating people but in the same breath it’s worth mentioning they have one of the highest death rates per capita in the world, if not the highest of any real populated country for that number to be a sample size that’s comparable to Canada. Would we still want to trade for that position?

So, with the new variants, even if we maintain our status quo of "zero social interactions" we're going to get clobbered.
What could we possibly do, looks like a no-win situation aside from buckling down and hope you don't get anything until everyone's vaccinated.
With the new variants, it's going to wreck havoc on "survivor" areas like us that because of survivor bias I think. Like, everyone's used to their routines now and because it's gotten them this far with no ill-effect even if the new variants are that much more infectious.

According to an survey of about 1,600 Canadians conducted online in early February, only 48 per cent of people claim to be following COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines all the time.
In B.C., that number drops to 34 per cent — which is 14 to 22 points lower than other provinces.

A number of responses took issue with the emphasis on self-care instead of government action.

This is the news that we've been waiting for. Data from Israel showing vaccines are preventing transmission and infection on top of preventing hospitalization and death. UK variant was also the dominant strain in Israel during this study.
From FT.com, "The Covid-19 vaccine made by BioNTech and Pfizer has been highly effective at preventing infection in Israel, according to the first real-world data showing that vaccination stops transmission of the virus. The results gathered by Israel’s health ministry, and seen by the Financial Times, showed that the vaccine was 89 per cent effective at preventing infection of any kind and 94 per cent effective against symptomatic infection."

Eight exposures to the Covid UK variant in 7 schools in Surrey and Delta:
SURREY (NEWS 1130) – There are worries about COVID-19 variants in schools south of the Fraser River with eight exposures now linked to the B.1.1.7 variant of the virus at seven schools in Surrey and Delta, as teachers push for districts to be given more power to deal with cases on a school-by-school basis.
“I’m feeling very concerned for my members and all the people working at the schools, along with the kids, for how they will go to school safely,” says Mat Westphal, president of the Surrey Teachers’ Association. “I wonder how many parents will feel safe sending their children to school.”
Westphal would like to see more decisive action from the province to allow stricter rules at a local level in classrooms.
According to the BC School COVID Tracker Facebook page, there are eight confirmed exposures to “variants of concern” as of Monday morning, all in the Fraser Health region.
In Surrey, there are two exposures listed at Tamanawis Secondary, and one each at Woodward Hill Elementary, Surrey Traditional Elementary, James Ardiel Elementary, AHP Matthew Elementary, and the independent Gobind Sarvar School.
In Delta, a variant has been confirmed in an exposure at Hellings Elementary.

What's interesting here is that nurses are vaccinated, unless they skipped their vaccination. If they were in fact vaccinated, it'll be interesting to find out how they still ended up contracting COVID. Trying to get more details on that.

What's interesting here is that nurses are vaccinated, unless they skipped their vaccination. If they were in fact vaccinated, it'll be interesting to find out how they still ended up contracting COVID. Trying to get more details on that.
Not all nurses outside the units working directly with Covid patients are vaccinated even with the first dose yet.

-watching the Covid update on Global News Live video feed on Facebook.
Minister of Education is arguing that no changes in mask policy are needed in terms of giving each school district their own powers to determine policy.
Bad idea. She argues that rapid testing for teachers and staff at a Surrey School indicate no spread of variant.
All negative test results.
There, no change in mask policy for all school districts in BC.
Dr. Bonnie is giving her Covid case numbers update on Tuesday at 3pm.
For anyone on RS that is a parent with kids in school, what are your thoughts about this "One uniform policy for masks " for all school districts? Does this policy make sense in light of the Covid variant cases in Surrey and Delta schools? :suspicious:
I am hearing news stories that some teachers decided to open windows in their classrooms because of poor ventilation.
Then those windows at certain schools were nailed shut.

Probably because stuff like this, which I posted back on the 4th, still happens:
Earlier this week I heard a story from a nurse I know at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, where there is currently an outbreak. I didn't hear this directly from her so take it for what it's worth.
She has received the first of 2 doses of the vaccine. Her supervisor essentially bullied her into treating patients in a room where the conditions for transmission are high (I think she said it was hyper-oxygenated?). She asked for a protective suit beyond the N95 and was told they don't have any. Her supervisor lied and said the patients in the room had all tested negative. So she went in and did her job. After she had come out, the doctor on the floor told her that no, they had not tested negative, their results were still pending.
I haven't heard if those results came back negative, but I hope she stays safe. Maybe she and others should take this kind of treatment to their union rep or even the press.

it takes about 2 weeks before you start feeling it after contracting covid getting sick with it
the vaccine takes about 12 days inside your body to get some of the blueprint what it needs to fight when infected.....
fully vaccinated you can still give anyone covid & there is no clue anything after this..

Yeah this would be a way different ballgame if you just got a shot and were guaranteed to just eradicate this. None of the vaccines are 100%, so it should come as no surprise that transmission is still possible.

https://www.citynews1130.com/2021/02/24/conspiracists-fantasizing-henry-execution/
These motherfuckers with their misogynistic attitudes fantasize about killing Dr. Bonnie.
Clearly, the double standard in much of our society, and in the world is shown towards the way men treat other men in positions of leadership compared to women in a leadership role.
These Covidiots want Dr. Bonnie dead. Imagine that! Our province's chief medical officer has a tough job of trying to keep British Columbians safe from Covid. These motherfuckers go on a livestream to give comments about wanting Dr. Bonnie to be dead. Some of these pieces of shit also voice support for liking Hitler.
You notice that there are no death threats against Health Minister Adrian Dix? Big double standard.
Bunch of insecure bullies hate Dr. Bonnie, a woman in a leadership position, but do not threaten Dix.
Dr. Bonnie needs the RCMP to provide security for her at her home because these Covidiots do not like the notion of a woman in a leadership position telling them how to live their lives in order to protect them from Covid.
She reported to the media that she has received death threats from people.
What losers!
Leave Dr. Henry alone!
-from the article:
When Parhar asks the gathering’s apparent host, seven-time Juno nominee John Stetch, what he has to say to Henry, the pianist responds: “Yeah, she can go [beep] herself,” making a beeping sound to censor himself.
When another attendee suggests someone is a supporter of Adolf Hitler, Parhar says, “Hitler was a good guy, maybe.”
“Of course he was,” a man identified as “Chris” says flatly.
Parhar then asks “Chris” what he has to say to Henry.
“She needs to be hanging from the nooses,” he responds.
“Yes!” Parhar says, laughing.
Parhar later says of Henry: “She can suck it, anyways. Some lead between the eyes would be good for her. I’m just saying it’s a good idea.”
Chris says he favours capital punishment for Henry: “Tried in a court – in a fair court. Give them a fair trial and then hung.”
“Or a firing line,” Parhar suggests.

I'm enjoying WFH life much more than I thought I would. Not having to commute 1 hour to the office and back for the majority of the office is a huge cost and time savings. I think a lot of offices are going to have some tough decisions to make when the vaccines are in full circulation.
Yes, rest of life is basically on hold though. No socializing, no travelling, no casual visits to restaurants with co-workers even, not to mention the mental toll it's taking. These are huge huge trade-off's, looking forward to some sense of normality.

Same company, same department...
1) Manager A tells me how good I am at taking care of the clients and suppliers, always friendly and easy to approach
2) Manager B tells me I am too casual... why do I always start my email with "I hope you had a wonderful weekend" if it was a Monday, or "I hope you had a safe trip to work this morning" or that snow day we had last week". He told me to be concise, straight to the point, my emails should be no more than 1 to 2 sentances long...
So yea... lolol... just depends lolol...
I have had clients and suppliers who I became close friends with outside of work... ofc that gets congratz on ... or frowned up on.. depending on the co-worker/manager I am working with... so yea... lolol

Guess it doesn’t really matter in the end if it provides 4 months of protection but still kinda fucked up essentially having Bonnie make calls that are counter to the manufacturers recommendations..
Could be a good game plan............ vaccinate as many people as possible in the least amount of time. Get it under control. Hopefully, it will work. if it doesn't, it may not have made a difference since viruses tend to mutate to avoid being eradicated. In two months, things can change quite a bit. The now not so new strains are pretty scary. There are probably a whole host of mutated strains out there that we haven't seen or heard of yet, ready to take hold. Ones that kill not only the old, but everybody.

Fauci: U.S. must stick with two-shot strategy for Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna vaccines
https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2021/03/01/fauci-defends-two-shot-strategy/
The government’s top infectious-disease expert on Monday reiterated that the United States will stick to a plan to inoculate tens of millions of Americans with two doses of coronavirus vaccine, as calls mount to protect more people by letting them get one shot now.
“There’s risks on either side,” Anthony S. Fauci told The Washington Post, warning that shifting to a single-dose strategy for the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines could leave people less protected, enable variants to spread and possibly boost skepticism among Americans already hesitant to get the shots.
Fauci said he spoke on Monday with health officials in the United Kingdom, who have opted to delay second doses to maximize giving more people shots more quickly. He said that although he understands the strategy, it wouldn’t make sense in America. “We both agreed that both of our approaches were quite reasonable,” Fauci said.

Has anyone downloaded the BC Services Card app yet on your phones? A colleague told me about this government app today.
The app can be used to book appointments for Covid vaccine shots.
-pretty labour intensive setup:
-gotta scan the barcode on your BC Medical Services card.
Enter date of birth and your e-mail address.
Then, you need to take a selfie.
Next, you need to take a video that is 30 seconds or less in length.
You gotta say the "your name as listed on your BC Services Card".
Smile in the video. Then zoom in on your face then zoom out.
Then send photo and video to BC Medical Services so that an agent can verify your identity.
The alternative would be to use the slow poke method of calling BC Medical Services to book an appointment for your Covid vaccine shot. We all know how long that can take to wait on the phone to get an agent to help you. :lawl:

:lawl:
Seriously? Way to encourage people not to get vaccinated. Try getting older folks to navigate that process, GTFO.

Here at work we setup a digital method for contact tracing.
1) Scan QR code with phone
2) Link pops up, enter name and phone number
3) 4-digit confirmation code gets texted to your phone for verification (so people don't enter fake numbers for whatever reason)
4) Enter the code, done.
I implemented the system because it's more sanitary than paper and pen recording.
Point is, even a check-in like this there were quite a few people "annoyed" by the process. Others were borderline about to turn around leave without eating because it was "too much of a hassle" :seriously:

VANCOUVER -- One of the men charged following a heated confrontation over masks at a Vancouver pizza restaurant is an investment advisor at Canaccord Genuity. The company issued a statement to CTV News on Friday saying the employee has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
"We are incredibly disappointed to learn of a shameful incident of inexcusable behaviour involving one of our employees," a spokesperson for Canaccord Genuity said in an email. "Canaccord Genuity rejects the disgraceful behaviours, opinions and actions of the individuals involved. They are in no way representative of our firm’s values."
Vancouver police confirmed this week that assault charges have been approved against James Henry Davidson and Brenton Thomas Woyat. Profiles on Facebook and LinkedIn identified Woyat as an investment advisor at Canaccord Genuity as recently as Thursday, though both pages appear to have been deactivated.

Doctor who said Canada doesn't need COVID vaccine calls online critics 'hyenas' in $6.8M libel suit
The legal action targets tweets that began after Gill wrote that society has existing COVID defences in the form of 'the Truth … T-cell immunity … Hydroxychloroquine'

Doctors and others have accused Dr. Kulvinder Gill of spreading conspiracy theories, being an “extremist crank” and part of a “war on science” because of her views on COVID-19 treatment.

When an Ontario doctor argued publicly that Canadians need neither a vaccine nor lockdowns to combat COVID-19 but should rely instead on a controversial malaria drug, some of the response was sharp.
Fellow physicians, academics and journalists called out Dr. Kulvinder Kaur Gill on social media last summer for peddling what they alleged was anti-scientific misinformation and conspiracy theory.
At least one of her tweets was removed by Twitter, and complaints were filed to Ontario’s medical regulator. Those recently resulted in cautions for “irresponsible” and “indefensible” behaviour that could endanger public health.
But then the dialogue took a different turn.
Gill filed a $6.8-million libel suit in December against 23 of the detractors – including a former president of the Ontario Medical Association (OMA) – claiming they had maliciously sullied her reputation.

The defendants include two former allies of Gill’s in a previous push to reform the powerful OMA, while the suit alleges racist and misogynist motives.
A year since the first lockdown was imposed, the case seems to underscore the bitter divisions spawned by the virus and efforts to curb it, even among health-care professionals.
“The individual defendants, like a pack of hyenas, attempted and in fact coordinated a circling of the plaintiff to literally destroy her career and reputation,” charges Gill’s statement of claim.
Handling the lawsuit is Toronto lawyer Rocco Galati, known himself for outspoken views about the pandemic. Galati has called public-health measures against the virus a “vicious fraud,” referred to protective face coverings as “slave-trade masks” and blamed it all on the “predatory globalist agenda of Bill Gates and his criminalist cohorts.”
Microsoft founder Gates has given away much of his vast fortune to help combat disease and poverty in the developing world.
Meanwhile, the pediatrician recently teamed up with another scientific outlier on one of her causes – promotion of the drug hydroxychloroquine as a COVID-19 treatment. Among the authors on a paper that concluded the malaria medicine was a useful therapy were Gill and Paul Alexander. He’s the part-time McMaster University professor who controversially tried to influence the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and other American government agencies as a Trump-administration appointee.

Even the prospect of the most vulnerable being vaccinated by summer, and everyone else by year's end, represents salvation that seemed unthinkable not very long ago.
Chris Selley: With vaccines on the way, pandemic-weary Canadians need a roadmap to freedom
Dr. Kulvinder Gill and Dr. Mark D’Souza each resigned their posts as chairs of districts representing Toronto-area physicians. “(There is) a culture of fear and intimidation and not one of freedom of speech,” says Dr. D’Souza.
Melodrama at Ontario doctors’ group ‘like a bad episode of House of Cards’
None of the allegations in the lawsuit has been proven in court and no statement of defence has yet been filed.
Two defendants dismissed the claims when reached this week.
“We believe the case is without merit with respect to Dr. Jacobs and we’re seeking to have it dismissed at the earliest opportunity,” said lawyer Andrew Winton, representing prominent radiologist David Jacobs.
“She’s not going to get any money from anybody,” predicted Dr. Terry Polevoy, a retired Waterloo, Ont., physician who crusades against what he considers anti-scientific health claims and products. “We told the truth. We presented facts.”
Gill referred inquiries to Galati, who declined to comment, saying that the suit spoke for itself.
The legal action targets mostly a series of tweets that began last August after Gill wrote that a vaccine is not needed against COVID-19, and that society has existing defences in the form of “the Truth … T-cell immunity … Hydroxychloroquine.”
She also tweeted that “there is absolutely no medical or scientific reason for this prolonged, harmful, and illogical lockdown.”
One response suggested it was “quite shocking” for such comments to come from a Canadian physician leader, and was followed by reference to an “army of hydroxychloroquine bots and unhinged conspiracy theorists” who chastized Gill’s critic.

Doctors and others then accused the physician of spreading conspiracy theories, being an “extremist crank” and part of a “war on science.” Some suggested she be investigated by the College of Physicians and Surgeons, or actually filed complaints with the regulator.
The suit alleges the criticism of Gill, a woman of Sikh background, falsely and maliciously painted her as incompetent, mentally unstable and unscientific, threatening her future income and career opportunities. It said her views were backed by a “good portion” of the world’s scientific community,” while the criticisms were “laced with sexist, misogynist and racially overt overtures.”
Last month, Ontario’s College of Physicians and Surgeons issued official cautions to Gill for posts stating there was no need for a vaccine or justification for lockdowns. The tweets showed a lack of professionalism and caution that posed a potential risk to public health, its decision said.
“A safe, tested vaccine is the ideal solution to protecting the population and bringing about the end of the pandemic with the lowest possible number of deaths,” said the regulator.
The college said it was fair to question the effectiveness of lockdowns or whether their benefits outweighed the harms. But Gill stated “unequivocally and without providing any evidence” that there is no medical or scientific reason for such measures. The statement wasinaccurate, misinformed and misleading, said the regulator, citing as an example lockdowns in places like China that have virtually stopped spread of the virus.

In another decision, it blasted her for an “indefensible” retweet suggesting that contact tracing, testing and isolation were ineffective and counter-productive.
Gill’s comments, “are irresponsible and careless in the current context and climate,” the College said.
But the agency dismissed a separate complaint about the doctor’s promotion of hydroxychloroquine in August, saying that at the time there was some good evidence of its effectiveness.

The jury is not completely in today on hydroxychloroquine, which became a political football after former U.S. president Donald Trump touted it as a coronavirus therapy. Some trials are still ongoing. But the most recently published or internet-posted “meta-analyses” – studies of past research – conclude the drug had little or no impact on the coronavirus. One analysis did cite lesser-quality observational studies that suggested low doses could lessen mortality.
The study by Gill, Alexander and other authors, however, concluded that early use of hydroxychloroquine combined with other drugs cut mortality in nursing-home residents.
T-cell immunity is a theme embraced by COVID-19 skeptics such as U.S. Senator Rand Paul and controversial Trump advisor Dr. Scott Atlas, who believe herd immunity to the virus may be close at hand. T cells are a part of the immune system not detected in antibody tests, which suggest only a small portion of the population has natural defences against the virus.
Studies have suggested that 20-50 per cent of people have T cells that recognize the COVID-19 virus, likely because of previous infection with common-cold coronaviruses. But even the scientist who spearheaded that research has said it’s unknown whether those cells protect against the pandemic bug, and almost certain they wouldn’t produce herd immunity.

Felt like I needed to get out of the house, cabin-fever setting in. Been wanting to grab something from the office so went for a quick drive downtown. Quick drive turned into a casual solo cruise around Stanley Park and then decided to head across the bridge and check out how Park Royal is coming along.
2 thoughts. A lot has changed here. More importantly. It looks like there's NO pandemic here once you cross the bridge? Was just driving through the "Village" and it is absolutely packed to the gills with people. Groups and groups of "same age people" all walking around with no masks so they're very unlikely to be household.

Two Vancouver men thrown in jail for hosting party during pandemic

Vancouver police arrested two men early Saturday morning for allegedly hosting a party in a downtown condo, a violation of B.C.’s provincial COVID-19 restrictions.
Prior to Saturday’s arrests, VPD Sgt. Steve Addison said police had received 10 previous complaints concerning parties in the high-rise tower near Burrard and Alberni streets.
Officers busted into the suite around 2 a.m.
“After repeated complaints from the public and unsuccessful efforts to convince these hosts to stop having parties, our officers obtained a search warrant and forced entry into the condo Saturday to arrest two men,” said Addison. “The alleged hosts were taken to jail, and six guests were issued $230 tickets for being at the gathering.”

Hong Kong has been around 10 cases a day for a bit, but there appears to be a breakout taking place in fitness centers. One fitness center alone has 30 preliminary cases, 19 confirmed today, and they say it could reach 50+ tomorrow. Several others as well, as members and trainers are spreading it to people who go to other gyms.
Just a reminder that going back to the gym isn't something to consider until you've been vaccinated. Not being able to train is doing a number on my mental health; it's something I've relied on to keep me even. I won't lie, it's been rough, but better than risking me and my family to covid.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry has introduced a new provincial health order allowing for outdoor social gatherings of 10 or fewer people.
The new order comes into effect immediately.
Henry said it means British Columbians can meet friends outside and have a coffee or they can meet grandparents outside.
The guidelines will require people to socially distance outdoors but will be able to gather at parks and on private property including backyards.
However, it should be the same 10 people, Henry said, not different groups of 10 people.
There are no changes to the current indoor gatherings. Children will not be able to have sleepovers, for example.

LUL such a weird conclusion to jump to... But people are definitely getting sick from the Sinovac vaccine. 3 deaths, 3 in critical condition. It's definitely being reported (https://hongkongfp.com/2021/03/10/covid-19-hongkongers-demand-for-sinovac-vaccination-wanes-as-third-man-in-critical-condition-within-days-of-jab/) too.
Think about how many millions of people who are getting the Pfizer/Biontech, and Moderna vaccines in America and around the world. No deaths. Hong Kong jabs a few thousand with this one, and people are getting REALLY sick and dying. Also this vaccine has an efficacy rate of around 50% rather than 95% of the others.
Because of this, number of people going in for vaccines are way down. They're doing like 10-15K a day. If you look at the booking page, everywhere has room available for booking. They are starting to open it up for more people. In China they don't give the vaccine to anyone over 60, but they are here, and I think all the deaths are sick people over that age.
They also started giving the Pfizer/Biontech vaccine. But again, people here don't trust the government, so not as many people as needed are getting their vaccines.
I mentioned the compulsory sign-in when going to restaurants or govt facilities... You can use an app which creates an anonymous hash, and you just scan a QR code to enter. Or alternatively you can leave your name and phone number on a piece of paper. I see WAY more people using that method than their phones, which I find weird because the phone is way more anonymous than your name and number. Unless these people are giving fake numbers, which I suspect but hope isn't happening. No breakouts yet since they started doing this, so we don't know.

That's basically all of reddit. They've turned social distancing into a cult-like form of thinking. Everywhere you go, if there's a celebrity or known person who is part of that subreddit, if they find out they aren't completely shut in for an entire year, or take off their mask to do something, they get absolutely destroyed and "canceled".
I've seen them turn on wrestlers, athletes, MMA fighters.. basically anywhere I go on reddit, I see them getting outraged about someone not doing everything "perfectly" and basically "canceling" them in their own part of that subculture. It's turning into some sort of deranged cult, to be "perfect" in adherence to social distancing. If you don't, you're literally trying to kill their grandparents.

Like, I get it. Bonnie has to put some rules in place because people are too dumb to read between the lines and if you had said it’s ok to be with 10 people outside before, that turns into 10 people on a porch, those 10 people going inside the house because you’re loose after a few drinks, those 10 people hanging out inside without masks etc.
But it’s funny as mentioned above this attitude of do-gooder syndrome otherwise

What are your thoughts on the safety of the AstraZeneca vaccine for people?
-from the article:
https://www.citynews1130.com/2021/03/12/pfizer-million-doses-a-week-canada/
Health Canada made a statement saying that the batch of AstraZeneca vaccines being shipped to Canada is safe.
https://www.citynews1130.com/2021/03/11/demark-italy-norway-temporarily-suspend-astra-zeneca-vaccine-blood-clots-side-effects-ontario-pharmacies-health-canada/
Denmark has temporarily suspended the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine after reports of blood clots in some people, but its health authority said Thursday it has no evidence the vaccine was responsible.
Other experts pointed out that of the millions of AstraZeneca vaccine shots administered elsewhere, including in Britain, there have been no reported cases of the vaccine causing blood clots or related problems.
On Thursday, AstraZeneca Canada confirmed to 680 NEWS the batch of doses the country has secured are different than the ones being investigated for the aforementioned side effects.
“We’re aware of the statement made today by Sundhedsstyrelsen (the Danish Health Authority) that they are currently investigating potential adverse events related to vaccination against COVID-19,” an AstraZeneca Canada spokesperson said in an email.
“Patient Safety is the highest priority for AstraZeneca. Regulators have clear and stringent efficacy and safety standards for the approval of any new medicine, and that includes AstraZeneca COVID-19 Vaccine.”
Health Canada has recommended that the shot be administered to people aged 60 to 64.
“The safety of the vaccine has been extensively studied in Phase 3 clinical trials and Peer-reviewed data confirms the vaccine has been generally well-tolerated,” AstraZeneca Canada said.
“We immediately shared this global information with Health Canada and will continue to share evolving data on our vaccine from both Canada and around the world as part of our ongoing pharmaco-vigilance activities.”
Denmark’s Health Authority said its decision was “based on a precautionary principle” and that one person who developed a blood clot after vaccination had died.
“At present, it cannot be concluded whether there is a link between the vaccine and the blood clots,” authorities said. Danish officials did not say whether the patient had any underlying conditions and did not provide any other details.
I'm assuming that most people on RS, except maybe MG1 :considered:, are not in the age range of 60-64.
That being said, if you know anyone in this age range, do you think it is safe for them to take the AstraZeneca vaccine?

Not sure what all the numbers are exactly but if the probability of me catching covid AND having critical adverse effects as a young person is lower than the probability of getting blood clots from AstraZeneca vaccine, I'm passing. AstraZeneca having one of the lowest efficacy rate doesn't help either.

So we passed the one year mark when Covid19 was declared a pandemic, people often use Mar 11 or that week as the starting point. It was then that NBA suspended games ... shock. LeBron said, 'I'm not playing in empty arenas'. NHL suspended games and everything started to unravel. Dr. Bonnie started shutting things down. Runs at Costco for toilet paper. Robson, Burrard and other major streets became like ghost town. Stock market dropped about 25-30% or more in some sectors. Gas price was like $0.95/l. Beginning of WFH. Surreal. Once in a generation pandemic. The world changed.

When hospitalizations effect 0.00X% of the population and it can shut down the world? Ehhhhh..kinda fucked that our systems can’t handle the uptick.
So in BC we have 5 million people. Covid hospitalizations since the beggining of the pandemic are around 4400. That constitutes 0.0008 of the population
So an additional 0.0008% of the population of unexpected hospitalizations (over the course of a year) overwhelms the system?...

We’ve literally gone 100 years since something like this happened. I don’t disagree that hospital capacity should be increased in certain instances, but it’s fucking daft to say this is slightly worse than the seasonal flu.
