those numbers are jacked up, he gets a huge pay raise near the end
When healthy Gaborik is probably the closest Bure clone currently.
I see him [Gaborik] as more of a Federov type. He's got the speed but more of a shooter when it comes to beating a goalie.
Although Pavel can shoot, he's known more to be a dangler. Nowadays, it's more like, Gaborik speed + Datsyuk hands. Holy shit when think about it.
damn i don't think there are any Pavel Bure haters in Vancouver
Are you kidding me dude? Have you seen the quality of content on CDC?

RiverCitySports.com has the REAL Edge ones on sale for $170 with no name and number (size 52 and up though.) I'd much rather spend a little more on a decent quality jersey than buy that RBK Premier Made in Indonesia garbage.

For something to wear to the game, nothings wrong with the premiers. I've got 2 myself and the quality is just fine, and so is the fit. Don't get me wrong I know my jerseys, and know what a quality authentic is like, but for the average person, replica's will do the trick.

No.
It will be grandfathered.
A well placed source reports that the league has informed the Players' Assn. that the league will grandfather the recently submitted Kovalchuk 15-year, $100M contract, Luongo's 12-year, $64M deal that is entering its second season and Hossa's 12-year, $63.3M deal that also is entering its second season into the CBA under the following conditions:
1. That the cap hit on future multi-year contracts will not count any seasons that end with the player over 40 years of age. The cap hit would be calculated on the average of the salary up through age 40 only.
2. That the cap hit on future contracts longer than five years will be calculated under a formula granting additional weight to the five years with the highest salary.

^ hahah nice.
As the Ilya Kovalchuk contract drama continues to spin, there is a new twist, with the New York Post reporting that the NHL has issued an ultimatum to the NHLPA regarding front-end heavy contracts - specifically Kovalchuk's deal with the Devils, Roberto Luongo's with Vancouver and Marian Hossa's with Chicago.
On Wednesday, league sources told TSN that no ultimatum had been issued, but the NHL and NHLPA did agree to extend the deadline for a decision on the Kovalchuk deal until Friday at 5pm et.
While the source told TSN that there were some elements contained in the Post report that had been discussed, neither side feels any sense of pressure from the other.
The Player's Association say that they continue to negotiate with the league in an effort to deal with the issues that have plagued long-term contracts and they say that discussions are ongoing.
The Post reported that the NHL had told the NHLPA that it would grandfather the Kovalchuk, Luongo and Hossa deals under two conditions:
1. "That the cap hit on future multi-year contracts will not count any seasons that end with the player over 40 years of age. The cap hit would be calculated on the average of the salary up through age 40 only."
2. "That the cap hit on future contracts longer than five years will be calculated under a formula granting additional weight to the five years with the highest salary."
If the NHLPA does not accept these, the Post reported that the NHL would reject the Kovalchuk contract, start the process of doing the same to Luongo's deal, and open an investigtion in the Hossa deal.

I don't know how they can legally do this. These contracts are not in violation of the current CBA. Yes, they are a loophole but there's nothing against the rules here. How on earth does the NHL have the leverage to say they'll void these contracts if the PA doesn't do this?

This is exactly what I mean. I'm aware that Lu's contract is mostly safe but seriously, all this garbage is just stupid. It isn't as if the long contracts create an uneven playing field...everyone is welcome to do it. It's just that some owners don't spend to the cap ceiling and they're usually the ones in shitty hockey markets that lose money every year. Bettman should be more focused on moving those teams where people will appreciate them.
And player salaries are higher now than before the lockout. If anything, it's the NHL's fault that they didn't look at stuff like this more closely.
Circumvention is more like if they paid Louie $1 a year and then paid him through another company for endorsement deals his $6m a year. Something like that. All the long contracts that are currently signed...I'd call that "creative use of CBA mechanics".

He exaggerated. Ohlund's has bad eye sight in his right.
Sources tell TSN that the NHL and the NHL Players' Association have reached an agreement on an amendment to the rules that govern long term contracts.
The two sides are now working on getting the paperwork done in time for the 5pm et deadline both sides agreed upon to render a verdict on the Ilya Kovalchuk contract situation.
The agreement means that Kovalchuk's contract with the New Jersey Devils will also get approved as part of a new global settlement. His 15 year, $100 million will be approved once all of the agreements between the league and PA are signed. Deals like those signed by Kovalchuk, Roberto Luongo, Marian Hossa, and Marc Savard will be the last of their kind.

Which jersey and what's your budget?
RiverCitySports.com has the REAL Edge ones on sale for $170 with no name and number (size 52 and up though.) I'd much rather spend a little more on a decent quality jersey than buy that RBK Premier Made in Indonesia garbage.
A Canucks jersey, a "normal" jersey to wear to games, that's all :)
Whats the cheapest place in the Lower Mainland to buy a jersey then? The shipping will take a bit too long since I'd want to get one for the Sedin's signing :)

I actually feel bad for the guy. Such a horrible fall from grace. from 56 goals to 37, 23, 12, 8 and then 5 last year.
Poor guy looks like hes got 3 broken legs when he skates too. and he just turned 30.

LOL let's be honest here with the Sedins...they're good players...they're great players but apart from the goal of the year last year, how many obscenely flashy toe-dragging, stick to skate, spinarama moves do the Sedins pull? That trailer is lulz.
They're incredibly talented and they could probably pull some of that off but that's not the Sedins' game. They're more of a quiet storm...probably why they get so little respect.

We need a poll. Who is going to get more points? Hank or Daniel.
Probably Henrik.
Daniel's only had more points than Henrik 3 times, out of 9 seasons.
And a player that mainly produces points from assists will naturally
have a higher chance to get points.
And even if Daniel wasn't injured, he was on pace to get "only" 110 pts this season
(which probably would have just boosted Henrik's total even higher).

Yeah, majority of people waited so much longer, but there was no lineup system whatsoever. They had one line formed, then somebody said something and then the line rushed to the door around 8.
Then the cops came and pushed everybody back into two big clusters. Around 9, they let people to the door and it became a huge mass in front of the doors. Some people who lined up earlier to be first didn't even end up being first.
The limit was supposed to be 300 people for the Sedins to sign, but they ended up signing about 800+.

Vancouver Canucks
Gone - Willie Mitchell, Matt Pettinger, Brad Lukowich, Pavol Demitra, Andrew Raycroft, Michael Grabner, Steve Bernier, Kyle Wellwood, Ryan Johnson
Incoming - Raffi Torres, Bill Sweatt, Tyler Weiman, Dan Hamhuis, Manny Malhotra, Joel Perrault, Jeff Tambellini, Keith Ballard, Victor Oreskovich
Ready for full time - The Alex Burrows injury (he is recovering from shoulder surgery) opens the door for several youngsters to battle for a single roster spot up front. Newcomer Tambellini, who never managed to secure a full-time role with the Islanders, is in the mix. Sergei Shirokov, a phenom at last summer’s development camp, and Sweatt, a former Blackhawks prospect (and short-lived Maple Leaf), will also get a look. The favorite is Jordan Schroeder, however. Although he is a small (5-foot-8, 182 pounds), Schroeder was Vancouver’s first round pick in 2009 and made a strong impression in the American League late last season.
Cody Hodgson is Vancouver’s top prospect and one of the better prospects in all of hockey. Barring another sore-back-induced weak camp, he will be on this team and has to be considered one of the 10 best Calder favorites. However, he has been hampered by back problems for a couple of years now and even though he strengthened it significantly over the summer, you have to be cautious with him. In fact, a lot of poolies overlook the problem altogether and overrate him. That may be something for you to take advantage of in your league.
Fantasy Outlook - A strong, young team just became even stronger. The Canucks lacked depth to cover off injuries, their defense was above average, but not great, and they needed an upgrade in the faceoff circle. Signing Malhotra addressed the latter, the team now has too many solid defensemen to keep them all, and if four forwards get hurt they can now be replaced by NHL-caliber players. Of all the teams in the NHL, it could be argued none has all the bases covered quite like Vancouver. Fantasy Grade: A (last year was C)

I don't understand why everybody is wanting and/or expecting Henrik to be the Captain if Luongo gives up the C?
Do people forget the all the "he's European" criticism that Naslund got during his tenure when things were bad? How will Henrik be any different? I am just afraid he'll just have more pressure on him which'll make him lose focus on his game.
I'd like to see Kesler or Hamhuis as captain. Basically any Canadian/American kid that's signed on long term.

Naslund always had a bad attitude even in the best of times, I have rarely ever seen Henrik with a pouty face after he scores a goal.
Don't forget Lidstrom still won a cup.

today on the radio they were talking about how Hodgson made no attempt to come to the vet's practice at Rogers arena this past weekend and he may not be in town for the young stars game because he's still training out in Ontario
will be interesting to see what happens when he finally gets here

What is the deal with Hodgson? The organization seems to be hush hush about him and he seems to be seperated from the rookie group.
He is not playing in the young stars game but should be taking part in the rookie physicals if he's healthy??

What's Up With Hodgson? Nobody Really Knows
“He just wasn’t ready. We really believe this young man has a tremendous amount of upside but, at the end of the day, he didn’t show any signs that he was ready to play at this level. After analyzing it and talking about it, we felt the best thing for him was to go back to junior and his team.”
Those were the words of Canucks coach Alain Vigneault late last September after the club decided to send Cody Hodgson back to Brampton of the OHL following the top prospect's less-than-impressive performance in the pre-season.
“I think Cody is a very young man who hasn’t had a lot of disappointments throughout his life. He’s probably having as tough time, personally, dealing with this one and trying to find a reason why it happened. We’ve all had times where we’ve encountered disappointment and tried to roll the [blame] in a different direction. We’ve all been through those things. Cody will learn from this.”
That was Vigneault a couple of days later, suggesting that Hodgson was using his bad back as an excuse for the demotion. The Canucks had previously claimed he was fit to play the pre-season. But Hodgson got a second opinion and subsequently missed most of last season rehabbing his back.
From an optics standpoint, it didn't look good.
Predictably, rumours of a rift between Hodgson and the Canucks grew, though in February that was denied by Vancouver GM Mike Gillis.
Hodgson, meanwhile, wasn't willing to go into detail about it:
Asked if he'd spoken to Canucks head coach Alain Vigneault about the latter's suggestion that Hodgson might be using his injury as an excuse for his demotion to junior, he said: “No. I'm not looking back now. The only thing I'm concerned with is my play and getting better.”
And ever since, Canucks fans have been dying to know what's up with Hodgson. Does he have a problem with the coach and/or management? Is his back totally screwed or what? Because it still wasn't 100 percent in April when it was reported he wouldn't be suiting up for the Manitoba Moose in the AHL playoffs.
So far, all anyone's been able to do is speculate, because, not surprisingly, nobody's talking. Or if they are talking, they're not saying anything meaningful.
All of which brings us to the news that Hodgson was absent from today's skate at Rogers Arena:
But perhaps the most puzzling absence was prospect Cody Hodgson, who's apparently still working in Toronto with former NHL player and fitness guru Gary Roberts while players such as Jeff Tambellini, Victor Oreskovich and prospect Jordan Schroeder are already here preparing to fight for a Canucks job.
Canucks assistant GM Laurence Gilman said Hodgson – the Canucks' first round pick (10th overall) in 2008 – needs to finish his program with Roberts before heading to Vancouver.
Hodgson suffered a bulging disc in his back in the summer of 2009, which caused him to struggle in last year's preseason with the Canucks and subsequently forced him to miss the first four months of his junior season in Brampton.
“He's working on core training and he's got a regime that he needs to finish,” said Gilman.
Gilman said Hodgson is expected to be at the prospects physicals at Rogers Arena on Friday, but it's uncertain if the 20-year-old centre will play in the prospects tournament in Penticton.
“'For any player, we want to make sure he's fit to play,” said Gilman. “We haven't had a chance to conduct a (recent) medical evaluation (on Hodgson).”
So again Canucks fans are left wondering, what's up with Hodgson?

Hamhuis just got here. We all laughed when Phaneuf was named captain of the Leafs.
Kesler is my choice. I think Hank would do a good job as well but Kesler has the potential to be a great captain. Seriously, in the years since Linden's decline, has anyone but Kesler shown the potential to be the sort of guy that's "Hop on my back, boys! We're winning this game if it kills me!" That's why I thought it was okay for Louie to be captain...because that's the sort of guy he is as well. He'll go beast mode and steal us games but apparently the pressure is too much for him.
That's the sort of game he showed us during the Olympics. I don't know if he was hurt or what during the playoffs but that's the sort of game I expect from him from now on.

It was such a tragic loss with Bourdon and it would be a tough pill for any Canuck fan to swallow losing 2 blue chip prospects due to tragedy and injury in such a short time span.

You need character guys like tat to lead by example.
I'm sure whoever we have as captain will be a good choice anyways. Look at it when Luongo was captain. It was basically Ohlund + Mitchell always talking to the refs. Leadership isn't defined by the letter on your sweater.

I remember hearing Hodgson speaking about how he had no competition anymore in the AHL and he wanted his chance at the NHL. IMO, I feel like we should give our rookies more chances in the big league and let them gain some more experience and knowledge so they can develop. Sure you can say some teams 'have no choice' but to throw their rookies in right away, but you look at detroit and see their scouting team and organization, they tend to give their rookies a shot to see how well they do. Other than the preseason games + a couple reg season games, hodgson hasn't gotten a solid chance at proving himself.

I dont see how Hodgson thinks he has no more competition in the AHL, I could see CHL but not AHL. He played 11 games and got 6 points, in comparison Schroeder had 15 pts in 17games and a ppg in the playoffs. Kid needs to stop overhyping himself and just play hockey hes going to spend most of the year in Manitoba anyways.

This is one thing I hate about Canucks development. I understand they want there players to develop at the junior and AHL levels and not bring them up to soon but they seem to error on the side of caution to often. If there hurt they cannot play obviously but give them an opportunity to prove themselves even if it means leaving them up after a bunch of shitty performances. I also realize if they play a certain amount of games up then the year counts as a full year and you lose a year of eligibility but they still need to take that risk more often IMO.

Detroits quite the opposite
They are in NO rush to send any of their prospects to the big leagues and would rather they mature correctly in the right places.
look at Jimmy howard, zetterberg, datsyuk, jonathan ericsson (DEAD Last pic in the draft), Franzen (i think)

He didn't get to play AHL until his CHL season was over due to his age. Perhaps he didn't feel challenged in CHL. I doubt he'd say that about a league he's hardly played in.
