...But you're fine with giving that much to Sami Salo to get hurt and not play? He's like the Jesse Lumsden of the NHL, are you really shocked when he gets hurt again?
When Salo is healthy he is arguabely our #1 dman
But coming back off an ACL injury well see how it goes

honestly, i still would rank edler higher than salo. edler is just way more solid.

Despite how great Edler is at the moment, no defensemen in our current roster matches his offensive hockey-sense which also comes at no cost defensively.
If our PP is hot now, wait til Salo is back manning that point with Edler.

That might be debatable. Ehrhoff has pretty good offensive hockey sense and he is almost never a reliablity on the back end.

So if he's almost never reliable on the back end, does that not make my case then? :D
jk.
I like Erhoff but I observe some overly individual plays from him from time to time. Like instead of passing it up, he'd rather skate it up which pretty much kills the rush as it leaves all his forwards along the blue line.

This is a nice read:)
TORONTO — Nobody here cares that the Vancouver Canucks have come to the Centre of the Universe to play the Toronto Maple Leafs tomorrow (4 p.m., CBC, Team 1040).
The Canucks shouldn't take it personally because if aliens chose Friday to land the mothership in Toronto, then marched down Yonge Street led by Randy Quaid, no one would have noticed. Because the Maple Leafs have recalled Nazem Kadri. NAZEM KADRI! And he's going to play for the Leafs Saturday against that team from Vancouver or Seattle or Portland or whatever. Some team from out west, past Brampton.
“It's hockey central,” Canuck goalie Roberto Luongo observed of the sport's mecca. “That's what they say. It's always fun to play here.”
Especially when the Canucks have won seven of their last eight games and just beat a hot Ottawa Senators team 6-2. And especially when the Maple Leafs have lost seven in a row and just got dusted 8-1 on a two-game tour to Florida.
NAZEM KADRI! made the Canucks' practise today here a Toronto-media-free zone. Everyone was working the NAZEM KADRI! story.
The Canucks worked on keeping their game simple: pucks deep, fast forecheck, shots to the net, crash for rebounds. It was the formula that worked in Ottawa after the first period, when Vancouver decided a strategy of defensive-zone turnovers wasn't generated any offence, except for the Senators.
“Yeah, the backhand saucer pass up the middle wasn't working,” Canuck centre Manny Malhotra said. “We've been learning what works for us, what game plan works for us.”
The Canucks will try not to stray from either the game plan or the winning lineup Saturday.
Keith Ballard appears to be headed for a third straight scratch on defence, and the new fourth line of Mario Bliznak between Tanner Glass and Rick Rypien is intact, meaning winger Peter Schaefer will sit out again.

Ryan Kesler drops pants, draws mockery from Canucks
http://a323.yahoofs.com/ymg/ept_sports_nhl_experts__79/ept_sports_nhl_experts-522462031-1289581729.jpg?ymiiwEEDi5ZKmh0S
As he discussed on Puck Daddy Radio, Ryan Kesler(notes) of the Vancouver Canucks is making inroads in the fashion industry by helping to design a signature line with Firstar sports.
And, apparently, he's also becoming Canada's Next Top Model. (Are Americans even eligible?)
This image appeared with a Vancouver Sun feature story on how marketer and former Umbro Canada VP John Catliff brought Ryan Kesler, Russ Courtnall and Brendan Morrison(notes) to Firstar to help promote its "performance polyester microfibre for underwear" as well as other hockey apparel. Said Catliff:
"Hockey players are the sweatiest creatures on the planet," Catliff said. "No one sweats more than hockey players and no one's equipment smells more than hockey players' and our product is specifically designed to combat the sweat saturation as well as the odour."
Aaaaand gross. Naturally, Kesler's beefcake portrait was not ignored by his Vancouver Canucks teammates, who were confronted with a copy of the Sun and relayed the following reactions to Ian MacIntyre after their 6-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators:
"Oh, wow," [Tanner] Glass finally muttered. "Was this airbrushed?"
"That's embarrassing," Canuck defenceman Kevin Bieksa(notes) chimed in. "I don't think the guys know about this." Oh, but they will. The newspaper's circulation department could open a kiosk today in the corner of the Canucks' dressing room.
Bieksa endured endless ribbing from teammates a couple of years ago when a B.C. magazine named him one of the 10 most beautiful people in the province. And Bieksa didn't do a photo shoot in his gonch, looking like he was waiting to have his pecs oiled for the final posedown competition.
"You have to be pretty confident to do something like that," Bieksa said.
Or at least know that no matter how your underwear ad looks in black and white, it's always going to be less alarming than Zdeno Chara's(notes) "Ogre in Repose" portrait for ESPN The Magazine.
One last thing on the Canucks: Their canceled-practice tribute to veterans on Remembrance Day (read about it here and here) deserves another stick-tap. Great stuff.

Only a couple teams in the league can afford Iggy's salary.
Assuming he wants to go to a Cup contender and they won't trade within the division (the Avs have lots of cap and are a good team), the only plausible place for him to land is LA. They're a good young team with decent assets to trade and about $6m in cap space. Send a player and a prospect or something and that deal looks reasonable.
The only other places he could go that make sense cap-wise are Tampa and St. Louis but they're a bit off from being a contender.
The Caps could make a case but not without sending salary back the other way. I think the Pens have room due to LTIR but not $7m worth.
In conclusion, unless someone is monumentally stupid and doesn't know how to deal with NHL economics, Iggy goes to LA or he stays put in Calgary.

lol @ the Nazem Kadri bit. It is true he is getting too much press just for being called up.
Kadri is a good prospect but I don't think he or Aulie should be brought up right now in such a poor atmosphere. The team should be working on how to get back to playing like they did to start the season instead of making a quick fix which has the potential to harm the development of one of your top prospect

If he's still a star player he doesn't need an elite centre so he can score. Change of scenery might do him some good but his decline looks a lot similar to Naslund's decline.

I still think Iginla can be an impact player for another team but it'll be tough for the Flames to dump his contract on another team unless another team is willing to give up a star or two and risk everything on Iginla which could happen this season by the looks of it.

Im going to have to agree with this. Iginla is a great player and all but elite players can do it without that elite center. Just like how Naslund and Bertuzzi made Morrison better than he was. Iginla should be making whoever hes playing with better, not the other way around.

I think he's a great player who is stuck on a joke of a team.
Raw talent? He's a powerforward who was successful not only just for talent but his physicality. He doesn't play like he use to with the same intensity as he did before. A lot similar to Naslund's decline here in Vancouver. Naslund although ridiculed in the late stages here in Vancouver he was when in his prime always in the top 10 in scoring and missing out on the Hart trophy barely in 02-03.
Look at both of their peak years:
Naslund peaked in 2000-01 scoring 41 goals, 75 pts in 72 games, his decline started in 06-07 scoring only 60 pts.
Iginla's peak started in 2000-01 when he scored 52 goals and 92 pts, his decline started last year when he only scored 69 pts. Oh and he's on pace for 46 pts this year.
His peak might have been higher, he is younger but it looks really similar to Naslund's decline. Except Naslund's decline might have had to do a lot with his hip problems which made him so slow after the lockout then pre-lockout. Oh and also the Bertuzzi fiasco.

When the room stands up and cheers for a goal but the announcer says "Oh no" it seems wrong to me-- unless you're a Leafs fan of course.
It's not called being biased, it's called being objective and non-biased.
The difference between him and a room standing up and cheering is that he is NOT a Canucks fan here, nor should he be.
Regardless of which team let in a goal like that, his reaction would be the same "Oh no", because it was a bad goal. Just the same, if there was a fantastic goal, he would be going crazy about it no matter which team it was.

Yes, that is what he's saying, which is completely ironic given that most others (like Flames fans) regularly complain about how Hughson is a Canucks homer even on CBC nationwide broadcasts with his "GREEEEEEAT SAVE LUONGO!"s, etc.

Great source buddy..Canucks forum lol...He's scratched because he's been playing like shit the last few games. Simple as that, but this should motivate him.
Then how's this?
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/516712-canucks-gm-mike-gillis-keith-ballard-scratched-for-health-related-reasons
In an interview with the FAN 590, Canucks general manager Mike Gillis explained that Ballard is not yet 100 percent.
"Keith [Ballard] had an hip injury that he dealt with all summer long, so he was not weight-bearing for about two months. He got a bit of a slow start and then when he got the concussion he had to be off for a minimum of a week without any physical activity. It just seemed to set him back a bit."
Earlier this week when Dan Hamhuis was set to return from injury, head coach Alain Vigneault was asked who would be scratched from the lineup. He said that he was not sure yet but he will "[play] the players who enable you to win," leading Canucks fans to speculate that Ballard was scratched for performance reasons.
Gillis clarified that it was for health reasons and not performance-related.
"We're treating this as more of a injury-related than a healthy scratch because we don't think he's been 100% yet and so we're going to take a bit of time and let him work really hard and treat this as little bit of a training camp, so he can get his feet under him."
"Keith's a very big, important part of this team. He's going to be fine and we're very happy to have him."

Listen turkey. I've heard the GREAT SAVE LUONGOs before. Yes Hughson was the Canucks announcer before Shorthouse. Yes he's a done a great job for us in the past. Yadda yadda.
Regardless, at the end of the day, the way he called that goal to me sounded like he was disappointed the Canucks scored. Which is unfortunate at best.

What Gillis basically says in that interview is due to his lack of conditioning Ballard has been playing like shit. He's protecting an asset he acquired and rightfully so. He's protecting Ballard from the ruthless media attention here in Vancouver. With this report there won't be any unnecessary pressure on him when he returns in the lineup. He was cleared to play by the doctors which mean he is 100% but that does not mean is in shape.
As for the game, always good to see leafs lose.
