Just because our seats are empty doesn't mean they're not sold.

they eat a shit ton of calories before and after games. the norm for pre game used to be spaghetti and steak then they would have something around the same after wards. now they usually get buffets at hotel so its convenient for pre game nap then they either bring in food to arena or go out afterwards

Yeah, the back to back weekend wins were huge in terms of league standings.
As much as we were slumping the last few weeks, Philly and Detroit weren't doing much better... they might have gained a point or two on us during that stretch, but that's it.
Before the weekend, Philly was only three points back with two games in hand, so they could have been one point ahead of us. But since they lost back to back games on the weekend, as it stands now, Philly is at LEAST three points behind us, while Detroit is at LEAST five points behind us.

Pro athletes burn a ton of calories and many of them will hit up fast food after games.
Guys like Ovechkin and Ochocinco have been known to hit up McDonalds right after practices taking down 2 or 3 Big Macs. Hell look at Michael Pheleps even, the amount of McDonalds and pizza he eats.

Canucks Nation leaves foe frustration, defaced statues in SoCal
By Greg Wyshynski
My god, they finally got to Gretzky.
The Vancouver Canucks went 2-0 in back-to-back games at the Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks over the weekend, and a small army of 'Nucks fans reveled in the domination.
Along with the Canuck'ing (and re-Canadanization) of the Kings' Wayne Gretzky statue outside Staples Center, there was also a report that Vancouver fans attempted to do the same to the Mighty Ducks sculpture outside Honda Center.
Oh, but it didn't end there. They chanted "Ellll-issss" inside Honda Center to taunt the home-team goalie. They took over areas outside the rink at Staples, becoming the largest gathering of pasty-skinned Canadians in L.A. since the NHL Draft.
And they left some of the locals rather stunned.
OC Register columnist Jeff Miller chastised the invaders:
While their fans were in the Ducks' ears. The visitors heartily sang "O Canada" before the game and lustily chanted "M-V-P" after Daniel Sedin(notes) scored and Henrik Sedin(notes) assisted. Before the night was over, the crowd was chiding the Ducks with "Na, na, na, na. Na, na, na, na. Hey hey, goodbye."
Yes, even by Honda Center's shaky standards this was a bit excessive. This isn't the sort of spastic behavior usually received at home. Unless you live with Charlie Sheen. It wouldn't have been surprising had the Ducks gone out to the parking lot afterward and found that their cars had been keyed.
While it's not exactly uncommon to see Canadian fans travel to warmer locales for road trips (see: nearly every Florida Panthers home game in the winter against the Leafs or Habs), Robert Williams of Canuckz.com sees something else afoot here for Canucks Nation:
Canuck nation now travels, impressive when you consider the geography. Vancouver's closest rival is Calgary, an 11 hour drive. Only Colorado Avalanche fans have to travel further to get to another team's rink. New York Rangers fans can drive to 11 NHL cities that are a shorter drive than Vancouver-Calgary.
Even when the West Coast Express was in full flight, you did not see anything close to the kind of support the Canucks get on the road. Sure, you'd see fans in Calgary and Edmonton, but that's been ramped up in recent years.
Now Canucks fans show up in great numbers in every Canadian city, as well as border cities such as Buffalo (I remember a bunch of fans painted "Bieksallent" on their chests at a game against the Sabres in 2006-07).
Did the Canucks get that kind of road support during last postseason against the Kings, given that all three California teams are in the Western Conference playoff mix this year?
One of the Canucks contingent wrote this on CDC:
So I just got back to the hotel after a fun night on the town in LA. The Canucks Ducks game at the Honda Center was unreal. There were soooo many Canucks fans, we totally out numbered the Ducks fans and it looked like there were more Canucks fans in Anaheim then in LA. The Honda Center itself is a gorgeous arena, even nicer then Staples Center and Staples Center is really nice. One thing I noticed right off the bat was how rude and arrogant some Ducks fans were. They constantly brought up the fact that they won the cup and some made some really rude remarks towards Canada and all the fans visiting. One guy actually told me to go back to my hole in Canada, I just laughed and asked him what the score was? Kings fans seem a lot more knowledgeable about the game then Ducls fans. Anyways we had Go Canucks Go going throughout the game along with a bunch of other chants, we even had a Leafs suck chant going in the third. As the clock ran down all the Nucks fans sang na na na naa hey hey good bye. Everyone then took the party to concourse, we literally took it over. Tons of we want the Cup chants and we even sang Oh Canada. It was unreal, it was literally an Olympic/playoff atmosphere. As we were leaving the staff at Honda Center were in shock at all the fans and how we were celebrating, they said they've seen nothing like this. The after party was at JT Schmidtz across from the Honda Center but we ended up missing it cause we had to get back to LA. As we left fans were honking and screaming, it really felt like the Olympics after a win. We got back to LA and hit up a bar where I ran into a bunch of people from Vancouver and even Toronto. All in all it was a great time and something every Canuck fan should do someday.

All in all it was a great time and something every Canuck fan should do someday.
Yeah I watched a VAN-ANA game in the Honda Center back in 2007 and one guy told me to "sit down" after I was celebrating a Canuck goal. Rude mofo's...
Even in 2007, there were numerous Canuck fans in Anaheim, but not as many as now!

I was tempted to head down for the LA trip myself this year, but couldn't convince my buddies to do it. It's a nice getaway in the middle of winter/spring. Cheap flights from Bellingham, relatively cheap tickets, and there are always hotel specials (or if you have friends in the hospitality industry, family/staff rates).
Hopefully, the NHL will continue to schedule the Canucks' California games in a similar way in the future.

The Province covered a story about Aquilini and how the owner is committed to winning by trusting Gillis and his crew. Good read:
PHOENIX — Let’s be diplomatic and say the origins of the relationship were unconventional.
Francesco Aquilini was still in a massive lawsuit over the Vancouver Canucks when he hired Mike Gillis as the team’s general manager in the spring of 2008. Gillis, for his part, had moved to Vancouver some months before and wasn’t exactly in demand as a potential NHL general manager.
The pair were brought together, in part, by the unlikely combination of former Canuck and Gillis client Geoff Courtnall and The Province’s Tony Gallagher. And when Aquilini fired Dave Nonis as the Canucks’ GM, he interviewed one candidate and one candidate only for one of the most coveted jobs in hockey.
Unconventional? That’s putting it mildly. A blueprint for success? Well, it was original. But almost three years after their relationship was forged, Aquilini and Gillis now stand at the core of the NHL’s best team and, together, they’ve transformed the franchise.
In the end, you can question how it all happened, and the jury is still out on some aspects of Gillis’s administration. What’s beyond dispute, however, is the level of trust Aquilini has invested in Gillis and the resources he’s placed at his disposal.
“No one has carte blanche,” Aquilini said during the team’s current road trip. “But he’s been placed in control of the hockey operations and I don’t think I’ve said no to him yet.”
And that trust is reflected in the NHL standings.
“I think Scotty Bowman said the greatest thing he had in his career was solid ownership,” said Gillis. “I have to agree with him. The luxury we have here is we have people who are committed to winning and who are prepared to look at things differently.
“I think it’s the greatest strength we have. [Aquilini] will do anything to help us win.”
Three years in, there is much about Gillis’s organization that requires a leap of faith. You have to believe, for example, that sleep doctors and sports psychologists make a difference. You have to believe that the analytics and Moneyball principles he employs give the Canucks a competitive advantage. And you have to believe the prospects he’s assembled will step into the team’s lineup and keep the train rolling.
It also helps if you believe the Mats Sundin signing was a seminal moment for the new Canucks. Gillis clings to that belief. “It legitimized the organization as a place where a top player wanted to play,” he says.
But the veracity of that position isn’t the issue here. What’s important is Aquilini has fully endorsed Gillis’s vision for the team and backed it up with his cheque book, changing the look and feel of the Canucks in the process.
The new locker room, the new computerized video system and the expanded scouting staff all cost money. You can be damn sure the new practice facility planned for the Plaza of Nations will cost money, as well.
And Aquilini hasn’t blinked when he’s been handed the bill. The Canucks’ payroll, for example, is listed at just over $59 million for salary-cap purposes, but the actual amount Aquilini forks out for players is closer to $70 million.
It’s the totality of the operation that has revitalized the Canucks, and the root of the reform is the bedrock principle that any tool will be examined in the pursuit of winning, irrespective of the cost.
Gillis believes the players respond to that approach both inside and outside the Canucks’ organization. That belief, you need to know, doesn’t require a leap of faith to accept.
“The plan was to re-invest in areas that had either been neglected or never fully developed,” said Gillis. “I thought Vancouver was never on the A-list of teams and to get on that A-list we had to do things differently. We had to make sure people knew they’d be coming to a place that was dedicated to winning. That was the key message, and the strategy hasn’t changed.”
Neither has Aquilini’s faith in his man. The owner stuck his neck out when he made the hire three years ago and, if it wasn’t exactly hailed as a master stroke then, opinions have since gone through some revision.
“People were questioning it at the beginning,” said Aquilini. “This is the business we’re in. People criticize. That’s OK. If I was wrong, I’d have to deal with it.
“It was a big decision but, in the end, it was our money at stake. I’m very confident and I believe in my ability. The difference is nobody sees it in the business world.”
But they’re seeing it now in the hockey world, right at the top of the NHL standings.

Oh boo hoo, POOR YOU. That's the kind of treatment you can expect when you're cheering for the away team in the home teams arena. You think Ducks/Kings fans are bad? Try cheering for another team inside Rogers Arena. I wear my Ducks jerseys with pride and gladly put up with all the shit talking, stiff shoulders, mean mugs, and challenges (yes, I've been challenged to fights at Ducks/Canucks games haha) I get from Canucks fans.
The Province covered a story about Aquilini and how the owner is committed to winning by trusting Gillis and his crew. Good read:
It seems like it was only yesterday Canuck-nation was in horror that Aquilini took over the reigns in place of Gaglardi-Beedie; the pair that was so frugal that they negotiated their way out of a deal. If it took them over 2 years to even get a whiff of coming close to deal (if they actually came close as they say) I can't imagine what progress if any would the franchise make in a 4 - 5 year span with ownership of that philosophy.
Moreso, it seems like it was only yesterday Canuck-nation deemed we had a dumbass for an owner based on his mumbled public speech and hiring an uknown as a GM.
Kind of puts in perspective the loudest of Canuck-fan wisdom.

cant believe its been 7 years
http://www.news1130.com/news/local/article/194141--seven-years-since-bertuzzi-s-sucker-punch
VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - It was seven years ago today that a sucker punch from former Vancouver Canucks forward Todd Bertuzzi ended the hockey career of then Colorado Avalanche player Steve Moore.
Bertuzzi was suspended and eventually traded by the Canucks. He bounced around the league for a while, before finally landing in the Motor City to play for the Detroit Red Wings.
Steve Moore had a cracked vertebrae and hasn't played another a minute of hockey. He's still waiting to have a civil suit against Bertuzzi and the former owner of the Canucks heard in Toronto.
Sportsnet Radio's Rick Dhaliwal in the News1130 Sports Centre remembers a dark night.
"How do you forget that night? You've been covering hockey for 20 years and it's one of those nights that will always stick out. I just remember the next day, it was the NHL trade deadline and all they wanted to talk about was the Bertuzzi-Moore incident."
Dhaliwal adds that it is unfortunate the way the incident played out. "It's a brain injury and you know Todd Bertuzzi, since the Moore incident, has made $20 million and he still plays in the NHL. Steve Moore, you've got to feel for him, he has not played the game of hockey ever since that night."
Bertuzzi is suing his then-coach Marc Crawford, claiming he told him to go after Moore.

Wasn't really a giveaway IMO. The pass (if it were a pass) went to his feet and bounced off to Belanger. Edler's had worse bounces to his feet where it goes straight to the net.
Luongo's just being mediocre again tonight. Slow reaction to Belanger (1st goal) and didn't have the blocker up on the 3rd goal. Good lateral movement though but lazy blocker.

why is that? please educate me
wouldn't retired canadians rather stay in Canada due to health care and etc.?
Too bad........ Luigi doesn't get to play his favourite part of the game - the shootout. :fullofwin:
Nice way to end the last time they will ever play in Phoenix.

It's a hot bed for Canadians......... retired people and Canadians who own condos there. I guess it's like Richmond and Chinese......... safer when you stick together like snot to a............ you get it. Those people are not going to get their fix of good ol' hockey anymore.
It's warm down there............. second home for well to do Canadians....... again, like Richmond.
Except, I don't think there is graffiti on the walls of shopping malls down there............ LOLOLOLOLOL

So many players get injured by the edge of the glass after the players' bench. Nothing you can do about it, I guess. If it's not the glass, it's an open door or hole in the glass that'll rip your nose off, LOL.
Maybe padded walls - use Charmin :fullofwin:

Bobby Ackles had a place in that area and was all but retired when he got the call to come save the Lions from oblivion.

thats a lie, i love it when pratt and taylor go on and on about that
Tickets can be had for face value and less, and a pair of mid-week lower bowl can be had for under 200 sometimes
