Now THAT, my friends, was an awesome game!
Luigi definitely earned his pay tonight. A couple of weird goals, but the post and a few lucky moments saved the day. Shook the monkey off his back. The team came through with some pretty good goals. Solid ones as opposed to the fluke goals by the black cocks.

BLUETIGER hits the spot here. Many players have had their career's laid to rest due to headshots. Lindros was never hte same after he got knocked the fuck out and the guy's pretty damn ripped, not to say the guy was huge as well. Same thing in the NFL, headshots kill careers.

i dont know the official rule on the offside call, but lets say our players are alll offside and erhoff shot it from center, and it goes in. is that offside call or does the goal still count?
cause ive seen plenty of times where players hammer the puck in while players are offside to get a change in.

thats actually a good question. what if no player touches the puck and it scores on a delayed offside dump in?
KHL gun is probably set higher just to prove their superiority over the NHL lol
So they have same the format as the NHL All Star events? Team so and so vs team so and so?
Or did the NHL copy the KHL...............
Also, is hardest shot taken from the same distance?
110 mph, is pretty scary if it is in fact, true.

I'm PRETTY DAMN SURE it wouldn't count.
I'm not going to bother looking up the rule, but there must be a clause that specifically addresses it.
BTW, I saw the bouncy tits on the local news hour last night. Let's just say, "What's been seen cannot be unseen." As in, it was not a pretty sight. Sometimes too much is too much.

I'm quite certain that they shoot from WAY closer to the net than the NHL... and as such, I'm pretty sure the measurement is affected.

Actually, I thought about it some more... and started having some doubts about it.
For soccer, it would count, because the play is only considered offside if the play is affected by the player(s) in the offside position. You can have players offside and still score a legitimate goal.
So I was wondering if the same thing applied for hockey... so I decided to look it up.
The answer is no...
83.4 Disallowed Goal – If the puck is shot on goal during a delayed off-side, the play shall be allowed to continue under the normal clearing-the-zone rules. Should the puck, as a result of this shot, enter the defending team’s goal during a delayed off-side, either directly or off the goalkeeper, a player or an official on the ice, the goal shall be disallowed as the original shot was off-side.
RRxtar
02-05-2011, 12:18 PM
Makes sense. otherwise youd end up with a lot of people 'dumping' pucks in on net from outside the blueline hoping for the goalie to stop play and get a faceoff inside the zone as opposed to turning over the puck (on a dump in) or a faceoff outside the zone (for an offside)

While we're on the offside goal topic...
Did anyone see what Kesler did the goal was scored? Start viewing at about 1:00 min and maybe you'll be able to see it. If not, just finish reading my post and rewatch because it is a little difficult to see.
YouTube - CanucksHD's Channel
Kesler was essentially coming into the play and just hopped off the bench when Hodgson was going back for the switch. As soon as Kesler hit the ice and Hodgson was in the bench, the goal was scored. Kesler, instead of going in and celebrating turned around right away and signaled for Hodgson to go back in to celebrate. In fact, it kind of looked like he left Erhoff hanging...

That KHL hardest shot is probably bullshit or it isn't measured at the same spot as they do it in the NHL.
Yes, no player in the history of the NHL, the best hockey league in the world filled with the best players in the world have never shot harder than 105.9 MPH and some second-rate beer league filled with communists and aging players no longer good enough to play in the NHL has a guy that can beat that mark by FIVE? How plausible is that?
But either way, Zdeno Chara and the NHL probably don't give a shit. The KHL sucks and it probably will stay that way for years to come.

arent the speeds measured with a radar? depending on the angle of the radar it may not make a ton of difference where the shot was taken from.
and in the end, why are we trying do discount the KHL players shot? are we, as NHL fans, actually that worried that someone somewhere else has a slightly harder shot?

Personally I'm a Hockey fan I don't watch just the NHL. If another player has a shot like that fricken awesome. It's better for the game that there are great players in every league. What fun would it be if we had all the best players?

id personally like to see the following three KHL players do accuracy, fastest skating and the puck control portion of the skill relay against some of the best in the NHL
Alex Radulov
Jgar
Yashin
especially the latter two, since they are so praised over there for their contributions. Radulov tho, that kid, is the face of the KHL, but we all know he's good enuff to be a regular in the NHL, and most likely be dominant

The radar gun is placed on a tripod behind the net, about 2 feet off of the ground, IIRC.
Where the shot hits the net will make a difference on the recorded speed. Shots higher up or off to the side will show up with a lower speed than if the shot was bang on 2 feet from the ice and on the middle of the net.

I think its entirely possible someone in the KHL has a 110mph shot. Just because the guy has a crazy shot doesn't mean he's a good enough hockey player to make the NHL.
I mean, hasn't anyone seen Happy Gilmore? :p

On NHL news...
Foppa is back!
It's official - Peter Forsberg is back in the NHL.
The Colorado Avalanche announced on Sunday that they have signed the veteran Swedish forward for the remainder of the current season. The team said that he will join the team and will be available to play during Colorado's upcoming road trip.
"We're proud to announce that Peter will be back in an Avalanche sweater," said Avalanche general manager and executive vice-president Greg Sherman in a statement. "Peter believes he can compete at the NHL level based on how his workouts went. He will provide additional leadership to our club and he will have an impact with this young team."
Forsberg has been practicing with the Avalanche for two weeks and declared himself ready to return to NHL action after a three-year absence.
"After testing my abilities with NHL players over the last few weeks, I feel confident that I can play at the NHL level and help this team," said Forsberg in a statement. "I wanted to see where I was at physically and I am ready for this new challenge."
Forsberg, 37, won two Stanley Cup titles over his 11 seasons with the Quebec/Colorado franchise. He was the NHL's MVP of the 2002-03 season.

So with Edler on the LTIR and the with the return of Salo. Is the salary cap still affected then? Or does Edler's contract cancels out Salo's?

Salo's 3.5 will be prorated to games remaining in the season so they be fine. Edler's remaining salary for the rest of the season will not count against the cap

His salary is NOT prorated. The full 3.5 goes back onto the Canucks payroll once he is activated on the roster.
My assumption is they will not clear Edler to play until the playoffs (no cap in playoffs), which means we will be keeping Bieksa. If Edler is ready a few weeks before the playoffs then they can assign him to a max conditioning stint of two weeks on the Moose.

think someone already mentioned it but the KHL is a joke, the puck is placed just under half the distance it is in the NHL meaning a 13yr old could be hitting in the 90's. I guess the KHL needed to figure out a way to make themselves look better than the NHL and putting someone 6 feet away from the radar was the answer

http://www.capgeek.com/FAQ.php
Teams receive cap relief when a player is considered to have a "bona-fide long-term injury" — injuries that cause a player to miss at least 10 games or 24 days. This is one of the most commonly misunderstood aspects of the CBA.
Just because a player is on LTIR does not automatically grant the team extra cap space. In the event a player is placed on LTIR, his cap hit still counts toward the team's overall cap payroll. Relief only comes if replacing the player's salary pushes the team's cap payroll to date over the cap. The amount of relief is limited to the amount the team has gone over the cap, not the entire amount of the injured player's salary.
There is no designation of "replacement players" and performance bonuses are not used in the calculation of LTIR relief.
To further explain this, take the concept of a bank account from 'How is cap space calculated during the season?' The team continues to spend its daily "deposit" once a player goes on LTIR, even when it calls up a replacement or multiple replacements. But any day its "payroll room" drops below zero, the team effectively receives an LTIR "credit" to cover the difference.
Example: Team A starts 2009-10 with a healthy 23-man roster. If no moves are made all season, that roster would finish the season with a final cap payroll of $56,600,000 — $200,000 below the $56,800,000 upper limit.
Take the bank account example from "How is cap space calculated during the season?" question in this FAQ. For each of the first 10 days, the team uses $293,264 of its $294,300 deposit. That adds up to $2,932,640 of the $2,943,000 that has been "deposited," meaning $10,360 is sitting in the bank for future use, if required.
* On Day 10, Player 1, with a $1,000,000 cap hit, sustains a long-term injury.
* On Day 11, Player 1 is placed on long-term injured reserve.
* On Day 11, Player 2, with a $700,000 cap hit, is recalled from the minors.
* As a result, Team A's cap payroll on Day 11 has risen to $296,890, because the daily cap hits of Player 1 and Player 2 must be included in the total.
* Although Team A only has a daily deposit of $294,300 on Day 11, it has $10,360 banked for future use, or $304,660 total.
* At the end of Day 11, Team A is left with $7,770 banked [$294,300 + $10,360 ] - $296,890. No LTIR relief is required.
* At the end of Day 12, Team A is left with $5,180 banked [$294,300 + $7,770] - $296,890. No LTIR relief is required.
* At the end of Day 13, Team A is left with $2,590 banked [$294,300 + $5,180] - $296,890. No LTIR relief is required.
* At the end of Day 14, Team A is left with no money banked [$294,300 + $2,590] - $296,890. No LTIR relief is required.
* At the end of Day 15, Team A gets its $294,300 "deposit," but has no banked money, and has a cap payroll of $296,890 that day.
* As long as the excess, $2,590 [$294,300 - $296,890], is less than Player 1's daily cap hit [$5,181], the team receives an LTIR credit. If the excess were to exceed Player 1's daily cap hit, another player would need to be placed on LTIR or Team A would need to demote a player or make another transaction to be cap compliant.
* If Player 1 stayed on LTIR all season and no other moves were made, Team A would receive LTIR relief of $2,590 per day, for each remaining day, and would finish each day, and the season, with $0 in cap space. Their LTIR credit would be $463,610 [179 x $2,590], because they only started earning LTIR credits on Day 15.
I know this is just for a 24 day injury but I think it could work like this I dunno this shit is so confusing.

basically canucks get covered for how much salo misses as hes on ltir. so basically when he comes back canucks are allowed to go over the salary cap by the the amount that is generated from the time he missed. same for the time burrows missed and the time edler will miss and the others.
Projected Credits
CURRENTLY ON LTIR:
* Sami Salo
* Alexander Edler
* Alexandre Bolduc
$3,341,375
That is from capgeek and i believe the longer those players stay on ltir the higher that will go. Basically no one needs to be traded and the canucks may actually be able to acquire someone at trade deadline.

I don't really care.
The only time a salary is pro-rated is if a player is signed mid season.
eg. Sundin.
Why do you think some of the media is saying Edler's injury is perfect timing? Canucks place Edler on LTIR which takes is 3.5 cap hit off the payroll allowing the Canucks to activate Salo.
RiceIntegraRS
02-06-2011, 01:19 PM
so whose right here? or we both wrong?
Edlers injury does not automatically take 3.5mil off cap. Canucks were short some say anywhere from 700,000-1.3mil before Salo could come back. Now with Edler missing the rest of the regular season that salary he has left on the season will go on LTIR meaning it adds up above 3.5mil with all the other LTIR injuries.
so whose right here? or we both wrong?
not him for sure, being injured 3/4 into the season doesn't allow someones full salary to come off the books like he said.
iwantaskyline
02-06-2011, 01:32 PM
Basically in order for the Canucks to activate Salo, what they had to do was clear a "3.5 million dollar salary". Edler's cap hit is 3.5 and they are basically replacing that 3.5 with Salo's 3.5.
Obviously Edler has played most of the season so he has already been paid half of the 3.5. But to add Salo a cap hit of 3.5 (the full season cap hit) had to be removed.
A salary is only pro-rated if a player signs mid season and only plays half or however many games.

can't blame kessel for wanting to be trade out of toronto.
pretty sure he was hinting that
From all the sites Ive read about ltir the salary its when he was injured 3.5/82 x however many games he missed goes towards ltir, the remainder against the cap. Same for edler and bolduc, salary/82 x amount of games played goes against cap rest goes on ltir. the amount totaling on ltir is the amount you can go over what your team's salary was at the beginning of the year. So basically yes canucks needed 3.5million on the ltir to bring back Salo or close to it and then minor moves but they didnt specifically need one player with a vap hit of 3.5million to go on. Whatever though only Bettman "knows" I guess lol

Its not as simple as just coming off the LTIR and getting no cap relief, I don't claim to know how the cap works very well, but capgeek does attempt to explain it. It does depend on the amount of time the player is out for.

Burke was dumb giving away two first rounders for kessel, knowing full well that the club was going to be in rebuilding mode for quite some time.
This.
It was dumb of Burke to think Kessel was a guy you can build around. The real reason why he had so many points/goals the previous year was because Boston had the likes of Marc Savard feeding him the puck. Without an amazing play maker like Savard, Kessel will not be the spectacular player people saw in Boston.
In Toronto, he has no one to play with. No centre that can feed him the puck and no one to set him up. This results in a player who tries to be offensive but cannot due to the lack of support. Kessel was way overhyped and so they paid a King's ransom for him and it was a dumb move by Burke. Boston is now laughing their way to the bank with the 1st round picks. First in Seguin and you can only imagine it will be a top 5 pick in this year's draft.
Regardless, it seems like Burke is at a fork in the road. He has to either choose Kessel or Wilson. If he trades Kessel, he'll look like a complete fool. It seems like he has little recourse but to fire Wilson.

Pretty happy for Emery, Ducks signed him
Emery signs two-way contract with Ducks
Looking to bolster their goaltending depth, the Anaheim Ducks have signed Ray Emery to a one-year, two-way contract. Terms of the deal were not released, but TSN reported the contract would pay Emery $500,000 in the NHL and $105,000 in the AHL.
Emery hasn't played since suffering a serious hip injury with the Philadelphia Flyers last season. He had surgery in April 2010 to repair the condition, called avascular necrosis, which saw the near-complete degradation of the top of the ball in his hip joint. It's the same injury that derailed and subsequently ended the athletic career of two-sport star Bo Jackson.
Emery has to clear waivers, and if he remains with the Ducks, they will assign him to their American Hockey League team, the Syracuse Crunch. The waiver process started Monday at noon ET, and concludes Tuesday at noon ET.
"Ray Emery has been a solid NHL netminder for several years and is only 28 years old," said Ducks Executive Vice President/General Manager Bob Murray. "We are going to give him a chance to go to Syracuse and establish himself again. He's worked hard to get back into shape and we are looking forward to seeing what he can do."
The Ducks could use a veteran backup to All-Star Jonas Hiller. Hiller was held out of Saturday's game against the Avalanche after complaining of fatigue and light-headedness. He's second in the League in games played (47) and shots faced (1,472), and first in saves (1,361). Curtis McElhinney started Saturday, with Timo Pielmeier recalled from Elmira of the ECHL to serve as the backup.
Emery has been on the ice since the fall, with the hope that he could resume a hockey career at some point.
"This is something I love to do and I don't want to take it for granted," Emery told ESPN.com in an October interview. "You can look at this as a bad thing or you can look at it as a chance to really realize that you should give it all you got because it's not over yet. Give it your best to get back at it."
He spent the 2008-09 season playing in Russia, and was on his way to a strong season with the Flyers prior to his injury. He was 16-11-1 with a 2.64 goals-against average and .905 save percentage in 29 games.
In six NHL seasons with the Ottawa Senators and Flyers, Emery is 87-51-15 with a 2.70 goals-against average and .907 save percentage. He backstopped the Senators to the 2007 Stanley Cup Final.

FUCK MESSIER!
It was an emotional and high-profile move, with Messier returning to Canada after six years with the Rangers, but the honeymoon did not last. Before the season started, popular captain Trevor Linden relinquished the "C" to Messier, a move that did not go well with Canuck supporters as Linden was a fan favorite. According to some accounts, Linden willingly handed over the "C" out of respect to Messier but later regretted it and described Messier's invasion of the dressing room as hostile.[13] Shortly after Messier's acquisition, Linden was traded by Mike Keenan to the New York Islanders, where he became their captain, replacing Bryan McCabe, whom Linden was traded for along with Todd Bertuzzi. Messier's demand to receive the number #11, which he had worn throughout his career with the Oilers and Rangers, but which the Canucks had unofficially retired after Wayne Maki's unexpected death in 1974, hurt his image as well.[14]
In Messier's first game back on Broadway, MSG provided a video for him which was displayed on the big screen at the Garden. It was very emotional as some fans as well as Messier himself shedding tears. He went on to score a goal in that game against his former team where he received applause after doing so even though he wore a different uniform. One fan even displayed a sign which read "You will always be our captain Mess".
Sixty points in 1997–98 was his worst mark in a full year since his first NHL season; his next two seasons were shortened by injury and finished with 158 points over three years, considered below expectations compared to other star centermen earning around $6 million US a season, like Steve Yzerman and Joe Sakic. Keenan was fired from his post as Canucks' manager and coach midway in the 1998–99 season, as the club missed the playoffs during Messier's three years. The team made no attempt to re-sign Messier, whom Canucks fans never warmed to, and he became a free agent after the 1999–2000 season

meh, go buy a Kesler jersey from somewhere for $100, get him to sign it, worth probably 250
ya made $150 in 2 hours and ya got a cool souvenir
that was like when I got my Ovi jersey during that olympic signing where you had to buy the jersey from the bay
alot of people i know were like LOL! $180 for a Russia jersey? what a rip!

I've never been to one but I would assume around 12 or even earlier. It's not really "exclusive", its been posted on CDC , Facebook & Twitter.
