Why is everyone afraid of Anaheim? After Visnovski and maybe Lydman, their defense is absolute GARBAGE, maybe the worst of the western playoff teams. 21st in the league in GA/G reflects this.

Because their top line is full of beasts and if Hiller plays at the top of his game he's almost unbeatable.

I actually do have insidish knowledge (just ask anyone in the know that works with this guy: http://www.free-press-release.com/news-eye-surgeon-becomes-official-lasik-surgeon-of-the-vancouver-canucks-1288128330.html)

They can't possibly finish below 3rd place now, there's no point in going all-out and burning yourself out before the playoffs. As nice as it would be to see a President's trophy and some scoring records, they're not worth it if you lose key guys going into the postseason.

It wasn't too long ago that being backup to Luongo meant little or no chance of getting in some games. Schneider has taken full advantage of the team's decision to give Luongo more rest this year.
Thank god management realized Luongo is not superhuman. Took the pressure of being captain away and gave him a damn good backup. Now he better make like a thief and steal some games for us in the playoffs.

If not I'm grateful Gillis put a clause in his contract. But then again I'm pretty biased because I think Schnieder is better for the team long run than Luongo

Let's face it: the Canucks will not play a single game this year (playoffs included) with their Top 6 defencemen.
Hamhuis previously stated that he would consider retirement if he suffers another concussion. If he decides to continue playing, the Canucks are better off resting him for the remainder of the year to make sure that he can return next year and play to his capabilities (a la Willie Mitchell.)

AV is either retarded or trolling on purpose. Ballard is a top 4 almost anywhere else in this league, he can quarter back a PP, decent hockey sense, decent shot, good outlet passes, solid hits, pretty positionally sound and has the busy stick. Fucking AV treats him like 6/7 defenceman and decides to man the PP point with M.Sammy, MayRay, Rome? Come on!

Woulda shoulda coulda - there's no saying he would have done as well here as he is in Long Island. Gillis could have traded Raymond to a team where he'd thrive while Grabner might have ended up on the fourth line here and you'd be saying "the only mistake gillis made was trading raymond instead of grabner".
As it stands, Raymond is a good fit with the team - we don't know if that was the case with Grabner. Right now, it's obvious the whole team has amazing chemistry on and off the ice, and we know that's a big part of what Gillis was going for - maybe the deciding factor was how well each one fit in with everyone else?
Sure, that's speculation... no more so than thinking Grabner WOULD have been better here than Raymond.
Besides, the awards aren't decided yet... Schneider is a good candidate for the Calder as well, and those two are about the only ones really in the running. Keep in mind that the biggest obstacle to Schneid's chances, as the pundits like to point out, is that Western players don't get the same kind of exposure with the Eastern-based media who do the voting - if Grabner was here, he'd have the same obstacle.

Grabner may be a good player, but two things caused his demise in Vancouver.
Work Ethic, didn't most feel that it just was not fair, he was given the chance to shine in his few years here. He didn't respond to them
2nd, he comes into training camp unprepared. and once again, Training camp is where he needed to step out. Clearly, at the beginning of his years as a canuck, him and raymond were battling for a spot. Guess who won that?
Needless to say, Grabner became just an asset to the team. Grabner showed up to FLA camp once again, unprepared. He probably knows that the islanders were going to be his last chance to stay.

Grabner averages 14:57 in ice time per game. He doesn't get to play on the power play much at all, and is leading the NHL in non-PP goals at 30. 25 goals at even strength, 5 SHG, 1 PPG.
As far as not cracking the top 2 lines here, a lot of people would have probably said there's no way he's going to score 31+ goals too. You can't say a 31 goal rookie of the year candidate is unable to crack a top 2 line role here. You have to remember that Jeff Tambellini got a long look at a 2nd line role during the season. Raymond has struggled and now Higgins is getting a shot. If he was on the team he would've had a chance at the 2nd line role with the injuries and cold streaks we've had from Raymond and Samuelsson.
Also, it's not really top 2 line or bust when you have Tambellini on the 4th line.

Tammer scored when he was in the 2nd line. he isn't getting pts now because he isn't getting the mins nor is he getting linemates like a Kesler and raymond. In the NHL a lot of players can score and have immense skill, it is whether they get the chance to prove it/who they play with.

I suppose Crosby, Stamkos and Ovechkin are garbage players in the West too if they played here.
Thornton experienced not much of a drop off since his move out here to the west. Same with Heatley.
In fact ppl argue that the NW division is one of the weakest in the NHL now along with the SE. I'm just saying ppl gotta stop using the "he playes in the East" argument and that's the end game for all skills arguments.
It's very juvenile to say that this is the sole reason why Grabner succeeded in the East.

I don't buy the whole "Grabner is only scoring so much 'cause he plays top line minutes on a shitty team" or "anyone can score that much if they played that many minutes."
If this is true why don't we play Orestovich on the top line??? Lappierre??? Who needs the Sedins!?
I think Canuck fans are just a little bitter that we gave up a 30 goal scorer.
Now do I think it was a bad trade?? *checks standings* FUCK NO. Ballard was a much needed player as we know the bad luck we get on the blueline. Underused (that's a whole different story), but needed.
Now this isn't a big deal in the present because we are kicking so much ass. But a couple of things will happen down the line:
If we win the cup this year and Grabner turns out to be a excellent player, people will look back at this in 10 years and say it was a bad deal BUT it was justified because we won the cup (Kinda like trading Iginla for Nieuwendyk). So no one will really give a shit.
If we get knocked out early again and Grabner turns out to be an excellent player, people will look back at this in 10 years and say this was one of the Canucks worse trades in history (kinda like Pittsburgh trading away Naslund or Vancouver trading away Neely).
But for now, I'm gonna enjoy our perfect season and worry about the Grabner thing in the future.

ive probably watched 15-18 full eastern conference matchups with the last one being Caps VS lightning
i almost puked how gross the whole game was played compared to the west, players like grabner thrive in a turn over based system where 1-2 players are involved in a breakout, they get a chance, and the play goes the other way [the majority of eastern teams play a similar style to this]
very few teams play a puck possession game like which happens in the west, Grabner never broke into our top 2 lines the entire time he was here, whether that be bad luck or unfortunate circumstances, either way he never found a way to do it
MG saw that having another solid top 4 dman puts us closer to winning the cup than having a while speedy, undersized top 6 forward who showed a lack of finish for much of his stay in Vancouver
it wasn't whether anyone "won" or "lost" the trade, we acquired a piece to our team we needed to be closer to a cup, and grabner was never going to be that peice..
also keep in mind, the GM that put together the cup winning hawks also passed on Grabner, imo his current surge is more of an apparition than anything and i'm willing to bet anyone that he will not score as many goals next year as this year.

Agree with Hondaracer. Grabner may have did better than last season if he were still on the Canucks, but simply the hardnosed grinding system Vigneault implements, the TOI he would've received, and the overall style of play in the Western Conference are all factors that would've worked against a player like Grabner.

Trolling? Somebody posted that Grabner was getting top line minutes and I just posted statistics that said otherwise.
I made a point that he would have had a chance on the top two lines and I gave an explanation as to why.
Can you tell me how that is trolling?
Can you point out which of my statements in particular are "stupid" and explain why?

ok here's a stat for ya
Grabner is 40th in shots in the league
he wouldn't be 140th in shots on the Canucks.

It was sweet when he scored on Grant Fuhr with it. Did you see how Dave Babych mobbed Malik afterwards?

I thought it was Richard Park who mobbed Malik afterwards.
Who knows if grabner would get 20 shots, 200 shots, top line minutes or fourth line minutes had he stayed with the Canucks. Regardless of conference, style of play, or anything else, he scored 30+ goals as a rookie. That's impressive however you want to look at it.

I really hope no one makes the argument "he's only getting so many goals cause he takes so many shots" like some guy did on team1040 about Ovechkin being overrated.
I'm gonna facepalm so hard if someone does.

Does anyone remember who the NHL'er that pulled off the babe ruth while on a shoot out or breakaway?
He pointed to the net and scored.
I thought it was Roenick, but I can't find that video so maybe it's not him? Can someone find me the video?

Better Chicago than Calgary.
Detroit losing in regulation would mean we win the conference.
Edit: which is almost certain anyway, but it would still be nice.
