I'm a big fan of McKenzie, he always looks at both sides of the situation which why he's so respected in the league

Its not a fucking blind side hit if the guy is skating forward. he should have been looking forward, not behind him. a blind side hit is when you get hit from a spot you cant see the guy coming from, like behind you or at an angle from the side. right fucking infront of you, is not a blind spot! and it wasnt a headshot, it was elbow to shoulder or even upper arm to shoulder, but im pretty sure he didnt get hit in the head. and you dont get run over by a bus with a headshot and get back up, especially seabrook!
edit:
look at this pic. seabrooks entire body is in a forward motion and torres hit him square in the front. he should not have been looking behind him.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v645/Nassy19/Torressb.jpg
if his shoulders or logo were facing the glass, absolutely it would be a blind side hit. but he was square and it is not.

IMO Torres hit was a good hockey play. It shouldn't be put on him that Seabrook didn't brace himself and/or wasn't aware of an oncoming player.
Hawks are badly deflated. We just have to push through and end them.
It's amusing how when they squeeked into the playoffs they were saying all the pressure's on us and they just have to play their game, etc., etc. Then in Toews' postgame interview he starts going off about how we're overrated and whatnot.... and Kane's interview...man, the guy was all twitchy and almost in tears - like someone just died. Oh wait, that was their season.....

heres How i see the seabrook/torres thing
Its not like Seabrook didn't expect to be clocked in his position. canucks pushing for the insurance with one more frame to go. Any smart hockey player CANNOT admire his play. Same thing with eberle. Altho i cannot condone the actions of torres, I think it was a clean hockey play.
sadly, someone said it right. The players nor officials know exactly how to police Rule48

Generally, repeat offender first game back from last suspension so 4 games or more.
But this league is a joke and Colin Campbell and Bettman is a bigger joke so it could be 0 games or 20.
yup, i agree. the league has no problem handing out suspensions to repeat offenders. it's also a joke because there is no consistency from player to player. if you're a star player, they will be more lenient.
I need another look at that hit. During the game, I thought it was clean?
Wasn't Seabrook just looking down while playing the puck along the boards?
I kept getting pissed every time I saw Seabrook back on the ice.
I was thinking "Torres, Hit him again!!"
What was that 15 min dressing room rule the commentator kept talking about? I'm not familiar with anything like that?
it's a new concussion protocol that the GM's discussed and have begun to implement it. the issue here isn't whether the hit was clean or not. seabrook was hit while he wasn't looking (i know it's his own fault) but the league won't care. torres isn't a star player and is a prime candidate for them to "make an example of".
The league is cracking down on headshots :speechless:
Also you should know by now that the league has never made consistant suspensions
they aren't consistent when it comes to the stars of the league. torres isn't anyone super special, just came off suspension and therefore, is more susceptible to another suspension.
They have been consistent with blindsides though.. I think he'll get a game or 2... But since this is his first game back after a 4 game suspension, maybe they'll throw the book at him?
this!
---------
i feel i need to say that i felt it was a clean hockey play and seabrook put himself in the situation by hanging his head down. i also know there's comparison to the hit on hamhuis that caused his concussion (no penalty, no suspension). i would also like to point out that, b.ryan wasn't assessed a penalty for his foot stomping incident and was handed a 2 game suspension.

The Hawks commentator is an idiot. He was trying to settle down the puck!?!? The puck was no where near him! That waas just a intentional cheap shot at Luongo.
Chicago called the time out which helped us in the long run

Logically it would have seemed Canucks would have called it since they were in the tight spot being on 5-3 PK.
But Blackhawks was in an even tighter spot, being potentially down 3-0 in series if they don't score and win.
:)
I'm not sure what to think of Canucks play of the past 2 games. Seems like Blackhawks had more control and scoring chances, even in 5 on 5.
But the bottom line is the Canucks were able to get the pucks in the net, one more time than the Blackhawks.
but I still felt a bit uneasy how Canucks weren't able to control them like how they did in the first period of game 1.
Maybe I'm just expecting a more convincing win... but I'll still take these one goal wins.
Elimination game will always be the toughest. I hope it doesn't get into their heads. I need Canucks to win, cause I will be busy on Thursday night.

CHICAGO – The captain of the Chicago Blackhawks is not going to concede anything – not the Stanley Cup, not this first-round playoff series, not even that the Vancouver Canucks have become a better team. Not yet.
Jonathan Toews(notes) stood defiantly in the dressing room Sunday night, after a 3-2 loss put the defending champions in a 3-0 hole, when he was asked a simple question: Are the Canucks just harder to play against this year?
“I mean, that’s the thing,” Toews said.
He sighed deeply.
“Everyone wants to look at the stats all year and talk about what they do well and how good of a team they are,” Toews continued. “That’s what’s frustrating. We’re not exposing them for what they really are.”
But maybe that’s the thing.
Maybe the Blackhawks have exposed the Canucks for what they really are – the best team in the NHL, or at least a better team than the one that lost to Chicago in the second round each of the past two years.
And maybe the Canucks have exposed the Blackhawks for what they really are – a fraction of their former selves.
It was no fluke that the Canucks won the Presidents’ Trophy as the league’s top regular-season team. They did it by a 10-point margin. They scored the most goals and allowed the fewest. They ranked first on the power play and third on the penalty kill.
It was no fluke that the Blackhawks backed into the playoffs, either, slipping into the eighth spot in the Western Conference on the last day of the regular season only because the Dallas Stars failed to beat the Minnesota Wild.
In the aftermath of their playoff losses, the Canucks added depth and became more businesslike. In the afterglow of their Cup victory, the Blackhawks had to part with 10 members of their championship team – important role players like Dustin Byfuglien(notes) and Kris Versteeg(notes) and Andrew Ladd(notes) and John Madden(notes) – because of the salary cap.
This is the result: The defending champions are not only on the brink of elimination at the hands of the newly anointed favorites, they’re on the verge of being swept.
“I think a lot of people outside this locker room are giving them too much credit, and maybe we are as well,” Toews said. “We know that we can be a better team than them. We just haven’t shown it yet.”
The ’Hawks are running out of time.
They had ample opportunity Sunday to show they at least could make this a series.
The storyline entering Game 3 was how they had fallen behind in both games in Vancouver, gone 0-for-5 on the power play and gotten no production from their top players. Toews, Patrick Sharp(notes), Marian Hossa(notes), Duncan Keith(notes) and Brent Seabrook(notes) had combined for zero points. Patrick Kane(notes) had only a secondary assist.
This time they had the roar of their home fans behind them, took the lead, scored twice on the power play and got something out of their stars. Keith and Sharp scored. Toews had two assists, Kane had another assist and both had plenty of scoring chances.
Still, it wasn’t enough.
Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo(notes), who had struggled against Chicago in previous postseasons, showed he had put the past behind him. Keith blasted a puck by him in the first period, and the fans taunted him and called his name. But when the ’Hawks had a one-minute, 17-second two-man advantage soon afterward, he stopped Toews and Kane – bang, bang – and then stoned Sharp with his right pad.
The ’Hawks tried everything. They dressed John Scott(notes) for his first career playoff game, then threw him out on the second power play unit late in the first, hoping his 6-foot-8, 258-pound frame could bother Luongo the way big Buff used to.
But Scott is no Byfuglien. He played 40 games in the regular season and had only one assist. He averaged one second of power-play time, according to NHL.com. One second. He lumbered around, and the ’Hawks never got set up to use him as a screen for a point shot.
Then Scott took an interference penalty in the second period, and the Canucks capitalized. Christian Ehrhoff(notes) scored on the ensuing power play. Daniel Sedin(notes) struck 54 seconds later. Suddenly, the ’Hawks trailed, 2-1.
“We played exactly how we wanted to play,” Chicago coach Joel Quenneville said, “until they scored their first goal.”
Consider the Scott experiment over. He didn’t play another shift after his penalty. But this is what it has come down to for the ’Hawks – taking a chance on a guy simply because of his size, playing a rookie on the top line simply because he has shown some spunk.
Give Ben Smith credit. He scored a key goal when he came up from the minors for the final three games of the regular season, and he scored twice in Game 2, his playoff debut. But Ben Smith, in his eighth NHL game, with so much at stake, playing with Toews and Kane? Ben Smith?
From the first day of training camp, the Blackhawks’ obvious challenge was to replace the heart and soul they had lost in the off-season. They knew their core players would have to carry them. But their core players have been able to carry them only so far, while the Canucks have looked less like last year’s Canucks and more like last year’s … well, like last year’s Blackhawks.
Sharp tied the game on the power play in the second. Early in the third, Toews and Kane had a chance to give the ’Hawks the lead. But Luongo stopped Toews, then lunged to his left and robbed Kane with his glove along the ice. Mikael Samuelsson(notes) scored what would be the winner soon afterward.
“He’s a better goalie, but our team is better in front of him,” Canucks captain Henrik Sedin(notes) said of Luongo. “We didn’t help him a lot of nights last year or the year before. We gave up a lot of chances. We’re a different team this year. We are a different group.”
Even if Toews isn’t ready to admit it. Yet.

The best part is reading the Hawks forum. A few days before series starts predictions was a steady stream and pages of Hawks in 5, Hawks in 6 no chance even given to Vancouver even though they win the Presidents trophy and the Hawks back in.
Then after game one it's, all we need is a split we got this in 6 no problem.
Heading into today it's, we're coming home we aren't losing at home.
Now it's, Fuck, series is over we're dead and pages on how the Torres hit is like the most dirty hit ever in the NHL. They also complained about the reffing..... ya thats right the refs were biased towards us!!! HAHAHA I get it, we're all homers for our own team but these guys are fricking delusional.

http://www.straight.com/article-352362/vancouver/ea-sports-predicts-vancouver-canucks-will-win-stanley-cup-2011
Come next spring, the Vancouver Canucks will be hoisting the Stanley Cup. At least, that's what the experts at EA Sports are predicting.
The development and support team at the EA Canada studio in Burnaby ran a simulation of the NHL season using the NHL 11 video game to determine the results. If the sim is to be believed, the Canucks will prevail after a seven-game Stanley Cup final against the Boston Bruins.
Before you scoff, keep in mind that a simulation of the 2010 playoffs using NHL 10 pegged the Chicago Blackhawks as cup winners.
At the time, many sports fans thought that the Hawks lacked the experience to make it through.
The simulations run by EA Sports are worth serious consideration. After all, the games created there, like NHL 11, are built on real-life data for players, coaches, and teams.
"Results are extrapolated by the videogame when two teams match up based on player ratings, line combinations, and include variances such as injuries and hot streaks to give a realistic outcome of a game or series," the company stated in a release.
In the simulation of the 2010-11 NHL season, EA Sports also predicted that the Chicago Blackhawks will be knocked out of the first round of the playoffs by the L.A. Kings, the Calgary Flames will be the only other Canadian team to make the playoffs, and the Washington Capitals will advance to the Eastern Conference finals against the Bruins.
The NHL 11 simulation also predicted individual achievements. Look for Sidney Crosby to capture the Art Ross trophy for a league-leading 107 points. The Pittsburgh Penguin captain will also nab the Hart Memorial trophy, according to the sim.
As well, the prediction is that Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Suban will take the Calder Memorial trophy, Buffalo Sabres netminder Ryan Miller will repeat as the league's best goalie with the Vezina, and L.A. Kings defenseman Drew Doughty will be awarded the James Norris Memorial trophy.
The predictions are all made with fun in mind, of course. But these projections seem quite credible to me. And the more accurate they are, of course, the more EA Sports proves that its NHL video games are more like real life each year.
Not sure about playing the Bruins in the finals though :troll:

they are quite different... that hit is head on... and even if they wre identical, most of you are not getting the point of where the league is now adays in terms of head shots, whether it is a "hockey play" or not.
Imo, I don;t know if they hit was clean or not, because there are a lot of factors and I do not have the privelege to see the hit frame by frame.
Lastly, if it were edler that come creamed by brouwer in the exact same hit, I think most of you would be singing a different tune.

In his post game interview, Seabrook says, " I thought he was on my back, I don't know what I was looking at." WTF then? Take some accountability.
Between Quenville and Toews' dillusion, Kane's melodrama, Seabrook being lost behind the goal and overall, the team having no definitive answer on how to deal with us, they stand no chance.

Vancouver Canucks forward Raffi Torres (http://tsn.ca/nhl/teams/players/?name=raffi+torres) will not be suspended following his hit on Blackhawks' defenceman Brent Seabrook (http://tsn.ca/nhl/teams/players/?name=brent+seabrook) during Game 3 of their series on Sunday night.
There was no scheduled hearing with the league on Monday.
Torres caught Seabrook with a shoulder to the head during a collision behind Chicago's net midway through the second period. The Vancouver player was given an interference penalty on the play.

Although he hasn't produced as much as I would've liked, I can always count on him playing hard and finishing checks. After his big hit on Seabrook, my buddies thought he might start to ease up but I knew he would play his game. Next thing you know BAMMM another big hit on Seabrook.
I do hope the refs take close note on what the Hawks mentality will be for the 4th game. They're deflated, frustrated, must win and now probably real pissed. I wouldn't be surprised if they come after a few of our top players.
He needs a nickname. Wrecking Ball, Rabid Dog, Tasmanian Devil....
edit: BTW nice commentating by CBC and the Hawks, calling it a suspension before even seeing the replay....douchebags

Chicago Media is conceeding hahahahhaha:
http://www.vancouversun.com/Better+Team+Keeps+Winning+Chicago+media+react+Canu cks+series+lead/4635422/story.html
The Canucks beat the Hawks 3-2, meaning you can say goodbye to this series. The Hawks couldn’t win in two tries in Vancouver. This time, they couldn’t win with a crowd of 21,743 at the United Center urging them on. Maybe Game 4 should be played at a neutral site and on Rollerblades.
The Canucks are better, and they know they’re better. End of story. End of series.
Hawks were exposed for what they have been for the entirety of the season, which is a middling, mediocre team. This wasn't about want. Names and bums alike, the drive and will was there. But skill prevailed. Fifty four seconds in the middle fram was all it took to get the Hawks chasing again, and the Canucks gave next to nothing 5 on 5. Now the Hawks find themselves at the gallows, noose around the neck and bag over their head, with the lever about to be pulled.

KIDS, KEEP YOUR HEAD UP. :fullofwin:
Props to Torres for having the balls to go and play the way he always has,
and to stand up for what he believes. Many players, after coming out of a
suspension will ease up a bit in fear of getting suspended again... especially
during playoffs. He knew eyes were gonna be on him, and first game back,
he says: Problem? :troll: And starts dishing out hard hits once again.
The Hawks got seven power plays and scored twice. You could argue the Hawks should've had a five-minute power play in the second period when Vancouver idiot Raffi Torres leveled Brent Seabrook with an elbow behind the net. Torres only got two minutes -- NHL officiating can be downright stupid -- and the Hawks scored to tie it at 2, but they were denied a chance to continue with the extra man and perhaps take the lead.

Appearently Mike Milbury called Torres a "useless piece of garbage" in response to the hit.
Personally, Seabrook should man up like Towes after getting rocked by Mitchell. It was a bad play on his part, cutting behind the net and look back for the puck. Had Seabrook touch the puck, then there would not have been the interference call. But in a way, this is kinda the hit the league wants players to cut out.

So you saying pointing Mason Raymond on the point for the power play is better than putting Ballard? Who has more power play point experience in this case? Not Raymond.
I use Raymond as an example in this case because that is exactly what AV did during the lowest point of our d-men injuries. Hell he even put Rome on over Ballard.
And Salo is on the 3rd line pairing so what's your point. Neither are 3rd line players.
Checking the TOI stats, he didn't play the last 5minutes. I feel comfortable if they rolled all 6 d-men instead of 5 but whatever. In my opinion, if they are gonna play him so little they might as well trade him and play Rome (who's been solid). No point tying up 4.2 mil on a 6th man d who plays so little.

Well good thing you aren't the canucks coach. Ballard was acquired for depth... which the canucks have now. And they showed that the trades and acquisitions were all justified, with all the injuries that they have had.
On the PP I would rather have one forward on the point. It isn't breaking news that forwards have been used on the point on PP's. Most teams do this.
As for trading Ballard, he probably will be in the off season, but there is no point crying about it now. He was acquired for defensive depth. Same as Schneider.. he knows his role. just because his numbers are insane, doesn't mean that he and Lu should split time in the playoffs.
Last 5 minutes, I wouldn't have put Ballard on as well. Edler, Hamhuis, Bieksa, Ehrhoff, and Salo all have playoff and clutch experience. Ballard hasn't been bad but he hasn't been exceptional. Just because he is making 4 mill ion doesn't justify ice time. Your performance justifies it. I can almost guarantee, like I pointed out earlier, that giveaway in the 2nd period when the game was tied pretty much decided his fate in the 3rd period. In the playoffs, if you make a mistake, the coach will take note and you will sit on the bench.

It's nothing new to use a forward on the pp but in the case of Raymond, he was used as a last ditch effort with the pp capable d-men injured (overlooking Ballard of course).
You may be right about this one (the part I bolded).
Torres took 2 penalties and was benched in the 3rd. Oreskovich, despite a solid game, was benched for the penalty he took.
Anyways my gripe is Ballard being underused. I was looking forward to seeing his offensive skills ever since we acquired him. I thought for sure we'd see more of him especially on special teams when we had d-men dropping like fly but nope.
But anyways, I'm glad we have him even if he is our 6th dman. When Manny went down, the one thing keeping me still confident was the fact that our defence is deep and solid.

Funny how a year changes things... a year ago, Torres' hit would be labelled 'series defining' and most fans would be celebrating it.
Personally [and I'm biased here having played as a d-man for 25 years] I have issue with open season on d-men in behind the net.. injuries on defensemen are way up since obstruction was removed as forecheckers obviously get in their way easier now. In my opinion, that trapezoid area should also be a zone where you HAVE to make a play for the puck first and not be able to just wipe out a guy who's trying to pick a puck off the end boards.
For any of you who've tried it, it's difficult to pick up the puck in the position Seabrook was in last night - it's coming around the boards fast, tight against that bottom panel so you have to pick it with the toe of your stick.. compound that with you're hearing the footsteps of the guy behind you who you THINK is Torres.. and SPLAT.
Anyway, go Canucks go :)

^Well someone told Seabrook headsup before the hit was coming. Plus on a play like that the only play u have is to chip it off the boards, or to take the hit. Seabrook did all the wrong things and tried to take posession of the puck and he did it with his head down.
That Kunitz hit is dirty... What was the context? Does he have a history with Gagne?

I don't get Kunitz's elbow. Some elbows are cause they were extending their arm too much trying to get a hit in. But in this case it is definitely straight to the head. What was he thinking. Did he think he could get away with it?

Appearently Mike Milbury called Torres a "useless piece of garbage" in response to the hit.
Fuck Mike Milbury.
His credibility is zilch. He once HIT A SPECTATOR WITH HIS OWN SHOE. Are you seriously suggesting that Torres' hit, which was a hockey play, is worse than HITTING A SPECTATOR WITH HIS OWN SHOE!? If Torres' mostly clean hit makes him useless garbage, what does that say about Milbury?
Plus he's pretty much the worst GM in the history of the NHL. Yes, Jokinen and Luongo to Florida for Mark Parrish and Oleg Kvasha?
Don't worry though, at least he got Alexei Yashin for Bill Muckalt, Zdeno Chara and the first rounder that would be Jason Spezza.
Bertuzzi, McCabe and a 3rd rounder (would be Ruutu) for Linden?
Any time he's on screen, I just ignore it because anything he says is overshadowed by the fact that he's made some of the worst deals in NHL history so his expertise is useless.

Are the ones they were giving away downtown different from the $10 ones at the game?
I was at game 2 and asked someone where they got theirs from. She told me they just dumped out a few boxes at the store and people just cleared them out. She said one lady grabbed 100 of them in one go. I guess I got lucky and was able to buy a couple from one of the smaller stores at the game.

And just why would Selanne want to ever go back? Yeah he set some records there, but he spent 3 1/2 seasons there...He's been the mightiest Duck for 11 1/2 seasons. Not to mention The OC > Winnipeg any day.

but was going to do where the damage matters, and that's trying to win a game.
Maybe I misread, or Toews told the media two different things. Either way, them taking stabs at Torres
doesn't hurt the Canucks' game at all.

Quenneville is also considering putting John Scott back in the lineup. hahaha
The Hawks are totally out of sorts - focusing on the past, emotion and what the 'Nucks are doing. They're getting beat up, slowing down, frustrated and deflated. While Crawford is playing decent, he'll have to play the game of his life to stay alive - I don't see it happening.
Prediction? Expect a huge push in the 1st and once we take the momentum away, any thoughts of a comeback will fade.
3-1 Canucks - Burrows, Kesler, Salo, Edler, D/H Sedin points.

Hank doesn't seem too worried about it.
Henrik and Daniel Sedin combined for 3 goals in last year's six-game series against the Blackhawks while Bolland had 2 goals, including one shorthanded. Henrik showed signs of frustration after a while, but he said that won't happen Tuesday night if Bolland tries to get under his skin.
"It's been the same way the whole year and it's not going to change tonight," Henrik Sedin said. "We get a lot of guys doing that to us and it's something we learned to live with. This year you haven't seen that from us, so it's not going to change."
Henrik actually felt Bolland got too much credit from the media for his performance against the Canucks last season.
"He's just another player," he said. "It's one of those things that the media blows up something, but it wasn't a big deal for us and it probably wasn't a big deal for him. We're going to play the same way and we'll see what happens."

Seabrook (upper body) out, Bolland in for Hawks. No changes expected for Canucks.
