I do participate in this thread, you may search for all my comments if you wish. I try to add anything relevant I can if I believe people might be interested. You will also find I don't trash talk, I don't gloat, I don't pounce on the canucks when the lose, I don't rub it in anyone's face when the leafs win. I also have to keep in mind where I am - one leaf fan against all these canuck fans - sometimes its just pointless to even attempt to argue because itstead of a one on one argument its a one on everyone argument and those arguments can get murky or off on a tangent real quick. because at first it just seemed to me like a another status symbol, a goal for people to earn a lot of thanks or a lot of fails while not adding too much substance to a thread. I would also see people like tegra devil in seasons past get nailed with fails without really earning them with stupid comments but for being a flames fan. I began to thank him (and others) to counter this behaviour, show my support as a fellow non-canuck fan, and to also genuinely thank him for not being afraid to comment in these threads.

I've argued this thread should really be an official nhl thread in the past because thats what it really is and should be. I did not like it at all when Tegra Devil was told to stay out of the canuck thread and make his own and treid to convince him not to give in. I can take a good joke and have even made fun of my own team in the past, but most often, leafs fans are the best at making fun of leaf fans (www.downgoesbrown.com). I don't like to see it sink to the level of a TSN comment section. I'm never surprised by the behaviour in this room but I would prefer to keep the level of discussion as civil and intelligent as possible.

I never had a problem with the Leafs until I met a friend who is such a die hard fan that it has made him absolutely ignorant towards any other team in the NHL. Especially the Canucks because he lives here and has to hear about them 24/7. Only after I started getting tired of his shit did I notice that many Leafs fans lack basic objectivity skills. Their undying love for their Leafs has fueled my hatred toward them.

Right or wrong, that's my reason. I have a lot of Habs fan friends and their not the same. (At least the ones I know) I was cheering with them during their awesome playoff run and became an honourary Habs fan. That shit ended as soon as their run did tho :p

- Canucks go undefeated in pre-season = "CANUCK FANS ARE IDIOTS. IT'S ONLY PRESEASON DUMBASSES" on his msn. But when we suck ass this year and Calgary goes undefeated "HAHAHA CANUCKS SUCK! HOW YOU LIKE CALGARY NOW!"

This is not a "Leaf" fan thing. This is an any fanbase of a huge following thing.

For example, I will see the above and raise you a Canuck fan.

- Shirokov was supposed to be Bure 2.0 when he went on a tear on last year's pre-season games.
- Giving Trevor Linden the C over Naslund (past the WCE era) would've brought us the cup because....... well fuck, just because he's Trevor Linden and he can pull magic out of his ass that can overcome any goal deficits in a play offs.
- Giving the goalie captaincy makes absolute sense.
- Jeff Cowan is the embodiment of a great player after his 5 goal streak on 06-07.
- And this is my favourite: The annual, this year is "our year" mantra the fanbase keeps saying unto itself year after year after year.

Also, out of all those things you stated, I don't see the last one to be a problem. Almost every year we are strong contenders and even sport experts pick us to be up there every year so why can't we think it's our year? We have a damn good chance.

Despite our poor start I think we look much better this year than last year. This is of course all pre season speculation. I base this on my assumption that our top 6 can perform close to how they performed last season, our 3rd line is a actual checking line this time, and our defence is looking much stronger with Ballard and Hamhuis. Only thing I don't like is losing Mitchell and still having Bieksa.

There's nothing worse than seats filled with suits like at the ACC. They are more interested in using their blackberries and making deals with clients than actually watching the game. They might be good for revenue but they kill the engery in the areana.

I think that new goaltender coach helped him with stopping cross crease passes & back door plays, but at the expense of being too far back in the net when facing a shooter.

I think back to the goal that selanne scored (yes, i know it's a 5-3), and the goal that zidlicky just scored.. and even at the shot that greg zanon rang off the post. Sure they were great shots and i dont think the old lu would've let those in... he was too far in the net.
