believe its more of an unwritten rule. as the only attention the nhl wants right now is on the cup finals. was shocked bos and wash even made a trade at this time. nba has a similar unwritten rule during the finals

pretty sure other teams have done it in the past.....there's probably a trade every year or 2 during the playoffs...

Bruins don't get any cap relief from Thomas taking the final year off his contract. The only way they can get rid of the 5M is to trade Thomas. However, they do get some cap relief though because of Marc Savard being on the LTIR (4M).

THere must be more to the Thomas story than is being put out there publicly. Because before the "time out" decision, the discussion was about trading him. If he has a NTC, it is possible that they told him he is going to be the #2 guy, and instead of demanding a trade he decided to let them give it a shot, and take the time off. If Rask fails, he'll be back. If not, I bet he retires...

If that's what it's about anyway

As for Thomas. hahaha His NTC expires July1st, so yea he fucked the Bruins pretty hard up the ass. The way he handled himself on FB this season is a big slap in the face to beantown. He also has stated he hopes to make the 2014 US team. this will hinder his chances. The Bruins have great faith in Rask, so him staying or not is just an insurance policy. His cap hit on the other hand...hahah

Is there anything to stop the Kings from winning it all next season? Sure, the book on Quick will be thicker, but the team in front of him will mostly be the same.

AzNightmare
06-04-2012, 05:26 PM
Well, on paper, the team will be the same. But it all comes down to the consistency of the players.
Besides being a good team, teams that go all the way also need to be on a hot streak. Anything can happen in the playoffs.

MR_BIGGS
06-04-2012, 05:28 PM
^ Ya I get what you're saying. Kings haven't had significant injuries, players have been getting hot at the right time and they have a hot goalie. If they had some players injured maybe a different result.

RRxtar
06-04-2012, 05:42 PM
plus the kings just have that swagger right now. everyones got the spirit, everything is going their way and they know they can win and are putting in 200%. it wouldnt surprise me if they weren't nearly as successful next year. they had a good season and won (maybe) a cup. maybe they sit back a little, the effort and chemistry drop, and the flow goes away.

hot teams dont stay hot forever. it wasnt long ago in january that it looked like boston was going to crush the rest of the league to another cup.

AzNightmare
06-04-2012, 05:46 PM
Wow... up 2-0.
GG. They aren't going to get 3 goals on Quick.

Kings going to take it. Hate making premature predictions like this
but I don't see how NJD is going to come back from this.

MR_BIGGS
06-04-2012, 05:54 PM
I predicted Kings in 5 before the series and I think I'm wrong. Devils haven't shown much this game, may only take 4 more periods by LA.

Maybe it's the bitterness, but I've been so uninterested in this cup final. Before the Canucks made it last year to the final, I enjoyed the Pens-Wings series', hawks, but this year is just bad. Bad ice, boring hockey (IMO), just not interested. Maybe if the Devils made it interesting, but even then meh.

Game one in the US drew a five time low in the ratings.

In Vancouver, maybe its the bad weather so people are watching a lot more, but here in Edmonton the bars aren't nearly as full as last year on game nights. Weather had been great, but it always is this time of year.

This has got to be the most dominant playoff performance in NHL history, and it makes it even that much more ridiculous because they came in ranked last in the conference.

If it were Presidents Cup winners steamrolling everyone in its path, it would still be quite an accomplishment, but what the Kings are doing is beyond reality.

They should've been in 3rd if they didn't lose their last two games in OT near the end of the season. I thought I was going to fly to Phx for round 1.

Regardless of rankings, the Kings went into the playoffs with the second best goals against. It was a matter of time when their offense kicked in.

A team with Kopitar, Brown, Williams, Richards, Carter, Penner, Doughty. Firepower that's going to end up burning you.

Hopefully this won't be the last year for Brodeur. Sucks to see him retire losing a Stanley Cup finals like this.

They could have been Pres Cup winners too if they won all 82 games. They lost those games fair and square. Would have been interesting though the game they won in OT vs the Bluejackets I think where the clock stopped for a few seconds. It happened again in the Washington vs Boston playoff game and they came out to say after that if Boston scored within a certain timeframe that they would have disallowed it anyway. Ah wells regardless if they are 8th or 1st they are playing extremely well and deserve it even though I hate them.

Vokoun and Tim Thomas are off the market, and with a bunch of teams looking for a number 1 goaltender (Toronto, Tampa, Florida? Philly?), the value of Luongo/ Schneider is at a all time high.

Even though Luongo is still a top goalie, but I think hes only got 2-4 years before his performance will be noticeable..

Schneider is younger and still can mature into a good goalie for many more years..

Its a gamble.. go with a goalie thats good right now or go with a "potential" No will know if Schneider will be a hit and miss or turn into an elite goalie...

Bertuzzi, Canucks ordered to reveal deal regarding Moore lawsuit (http://www.vancouversun.com/sports/Bertuzzi+Canucks+ordered+reveal+deal+regarding+Moo re+lawsuit/6735617/story.html)

TORONTO — Lawyers for Todd Bertuzzi and the Vancouver Canucks have lost an appeal to keep confidential the details of a deal struck last year pertaining to a multimillion-dollar lawsuit against Bertuzzi by former NHL player Steve Moore.

Moore's civil lawsuit for damages and lost wages stems from an incident during a game on March 8, 2004, in Vancouver between the Canucks and the Colorado Avalanche. Bertuzzi, then with the Canucks, attacked Colorado's Moore from behind and punched him in the side of the head, driving him to the ice. Moore suffered three broken vertebrae, deep facial cuts and never played in the NHL again.

The ugly incident was in retaliation to a hit Moore delivered to Canucks star Markus Naslund in an earlier game between the teams. Naslund was injured on the play, but Moore did not receive a penalty or any further disciplinary action.

Moore's lawyer, Tim Danson, discovered last September that Bertuzzi, former Vancouver coach Marc Crawford and Canucks owner Orca Bay reached a settlement on how to share the liability should Moore win the case. Knowledge of the deal surfaced after Bertuzzi had dropped a third-party claim against Crawford.

An Ontario court ruled in January that Moore's counsel should have access to the details of that agreement. Bertuzzi and the Canucks appealed that decision, but it was upheld by an Ontario Superior Court judge on Monday.

The details of the agreement will not be disclosed to the public until the case goes to trial later this year.

Danson declined to comment further when reached Tuesday. An email sent to Bertuzzi's lawyer Geoff Adair was not returned.

Bertuzzi pleaded guilty to a charge of assault causing bodily harm in the criminal trial that followed the incident. He was sentenced to a year's probation and 80 hours of community service on Feb. 14, 2006. He was also served a multi-game suspension by the NHL.

After Moore launched his civil suit against Bertuzzi and the Canucks, Bertuzzi filed a third-party claim against Crawford, claiming the coach urged his players to make Moore "pay the price" for his hit on Naslund.

In court documents released Monday, Justice Paul Perell stated that he sees "no reason not to disclose the complete details of the proportional sharing between the defendants."

Adair had argued in court that disclosure of the agreement's details may make his client seem culpable, stating "the plaintiff's counsel will now be in a position to make full use of the Settlement Agreement to advance the theme to (the jury) at every turn that the defendants have acted in concert to 'hide' the facts by 'paying off' Bertuzzi to drop the claim against Crawford."

Perell, however, decided that the settlement between the defendants was not an admission of liability, and said that it would be more harmful to the defence not to disclose the details of the settlement because it would lead to speculation that the defendants "have no answer or rejoinder to any prejudicial adverse inferences from having entered into a provisional sharing of indebtedness to the Moores."

I wouldn't suggest that he "deserved" it - nobody "deserves" to have a career ended like that.

What always boggled me about it was ALL the blame being CONSTANTLY lumped on Bert... nobody seems to think that having a HALF A TON of the guy's own teammates jumping on the pile might have and anything to do with the injury. Seriously, dude not only has a 250-pound Bert on top of him, but then four other guys who all weigh 200-250 each, plus all their gear, jump on top of that? Moore should be glad he didn't come out of it looking like Wile E. Coyote after having a boulder fall on him.

Except Beruzzi is the one who sucker punched him and jumped on his back, pushing his head into the ice in the first place. If he hadn't done all that, the pileup never would have happened.

I get that he was on the Canucks, and a popular player. But that is sick shit that shouldn't be excused or defended. I bet even Bertuzzi himself would be disgusted by people saying Moore "got what he deserved" and that they had "happy tears" when he broke the guy's neck.

So you being the doctor, you know for a fact that it was hitting the ice that did the damage, and not all that extra weight, right? The injury couldn't possibly have been exacerbated by the piling-on, right? There's no chance it could have just ended up being a sore neck until NEARLY A THOUSAND POUNDS of the guys own teammates crushed him between Bert and the ice?

Glad to know in addition to all the armchair GMs and coaches, there are some armchair neurosurgeons running around, too. It's so helpful.

I think SkinnyPupp is focusing on the sucker punch itself, whereas you're looking at the damage inflicted.

While he has no control over the consequences, Bertuzzi can control whether he punches or not. Most of us can probably agree that sucker punches have no place in sports.

The thing that stands out most for me is that I we could have won the cup that year.

Bert wasn't playing like a monster a year before when he had 97 points but he was still one of the best power forwards in the league. With him, I firmly believe we would have beat Calgary (who we took to 7) and maybe made it to the finals.

I feel bad that the whole incident happened but I have no sympathy for Steve Moore.

He had a decent year for what it was. Really hard to say tho all depends if he has the itch of playing in the NHL again or he did it and hes happy and can finally call it quits.

I would like to see him play again, even with the puck last year he was still scary knowing what he might be able to do with it.

There's great pressure on the Kings to win the next game on Monday. If they don't, all the momentum is in Jersey's favour.

-wonder what changes coach Sutter will make for game 6. Gagne out, Richardson in?

I don't like seeing teams win the cup on the road, regardless of who is hoisting it.

I don't mind the Patriots because I'm a Brady fan but I'm not a fan of Boston in general.

Lol, yes I'm a fan of the Heat but my second fav team is OKC because of the Seattle connection and because of Durant. I think it's going to be an epic final.

You know what's sad?

The biggest hockey discussion at this time is that more hockey people are choosing to follow NBA quarterfinals than the SCF.

That's seriously the hockey news as of late.

Craig MacTavish departs Chicago Wolves organization - Vancouver Canucks - News (http://canucks.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=634329)

Vancouver, B.C. – Vancouver Canucks President & General Manager Mike Gillis announced today that Craig MacTavish will leave his role as Head Coach of the Canucks American Hockey League affiliate, the Chicago Wolves to pursue other opportunities.

How so? Do you think MacT was banking on AV getting let go? That seemed like a long shot when he agreed to coach the Wolves.

Was a topic on hotstove on Saturday and being discussed on blogs; what kind of contract do you guys seen Crosby getting? Earliest he can sign is July 1. If cap goes to 70 million, he can hit the ceiling of about $14 million.

I imagine it will be a long term deal, maybe in the ballpark of $9 M/yr. That being said, Malkin will want that kind of money too, leaving nothing for Stall. I guess the thing Crosby would be looking at is the unknown with the new CBA. Does he sign a contract before that, or risk potentially less money after it?

I've not read anything about Crosby's contract at all personally, but I'm hesitant to think the Pens offer him something that long term ie.7+yrs for that kind of money with his concussion still a possible factor, and you know there will always be somebody gunning for him to make a name for himself.

New Jersey's coach gets an eyeful from the lucky assets of porn star Taylor Stevens. Peter DeBoer said that if his team wins game 6, he's buying a ticket for Taylor to game 7. Those big lucky charms of Taylor can distract an NHL coach for sure. WOW.

I'm thinking this porn star got seats behind Jersey's bench on purpose just get more exposure of her big talents. Smart move. :D
