Time for some Armchair GM in my NHL12
Luongo for Lecavelier
Kesler for Weber
:troll:
Seeing Luongo sitting there with teary eyes ... kinda feel bad for him
He's a big boy. He's a professional. He's also a "world class goalie", so he'll be back. Good thing the backup is not too shabby of a goalie........ maybe not world class, but..........might keep us in the game.
Go, Canucks, GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Schneider is the best goalie in the NHL right now (or at least 2nd after Elliot). Of course they are going to CHEER for him when he takes over. It isn't so much against Lu as it is FOR Schneider.
Very well said, hope we will see a lot of Schneider in the playoff this year!:toot:
Ginger is damn good of course that's reality, BUT ... seriously I highly doubt he would have fared much better in the exact same situation that Luongo was put in earlier. Those 2 goals that MAG shat the bed on were pretty much un-save-able by ANY goalie.
Nope.
A lot of the Schneider fans are so because a lot deem him to be the more the more athletic/agile goalie.
Canucks fans bashing or questioning Luongo aren't true hockey fans. Luongo let in one bad goal, the other 3 were dogshit defense. Lu is solid.
We are blessed to have two amazing goalies. Bandwagoners need to STFU.

And here comes the canuck fan pissing context on who's the better Canuck fan.
Like you said, we HAVE 2 amazing goalies. What's the big fucking deal if the fanbase is split between to great goaltenders? Did Luongo's $64 million contract also come with a clause that we have to cheer him > Schneider in the event of equal quality goaltending?
Seriously, outplay Schneider and make yourself a clear #1 if you want to monopolize the fanbaze. As it is right now, Schneider is earning every fan he wins.
cliffhanger33
04-03-2012, 08:01 PM
Exactly. I don't understand why ppl generalize canucks fan as bandwagons when they cheer for Schneider. Schneider still plays for us (Canucks), so we are still technically cheering for Canucks when Lu is pulled. Right now Schneider is outplaying Lu, and we are merely cheering for our other half.
Maybe calling us luongo bandwagoners is understandable, but def. not Canucks bandwagoners

Yeah. But i remember during the boston series when lu got pulled, dam the crowd erupted. You can argue we were cheering for lu being pulled or for schneider coming in. They're pretty different if you ask me LOL
And u guys remember when the media asked lu how he felt about the crowd cheering when he got pulled. Pretty dick move if you asked me.

I was referring to the goalie issue not the team in general.
Without Luongo we wouldn't have even made it to the cup finals last year. In his last 4 games he's gone 3-0-1 with some phenomenal stops and probably a .950 save percentage (I'm guessing). One bad goal tonight and "OHHHHH put in Schneider and let's keep him in for the playoffs"! What a bunch of BS. It's as much the media's fault for hyping it up. I'm just sick of hearing it.

The "issue" with Luongo is that no matter how good he is (and he is very good, there is no denying it) there will ALWAYS be the stigma of the long term contract. Normally it wouldn't be a huge deal, but when a guy who is better or at least as good comes along, we will lose him because of the contract. The team is basically handcuffed. And of course this is nothing against him personally - if someone throws $100 million at you, of course you are going to take it!
Another issue I can think of is giving him the C, then getting denied, then saying he's the "honorary" captain anyway.. that left a bad taste in a lot of peoples mouths.
Then you have other things like the pouting, interviews, pumping tires, etc.
I think a lot of the reaction you see is not because people think Lu sucks, but more that there is an alternative potentially, and there's nothing we can do with him after this season pretty much.

I feel bad for Louie sitting on the bench... 2 of those goals were completely not his fault and the crowd was cheering like we won the Cup when Scheider replaced him, what bunch of bangwagon freaks... It should still be around 2-2 if MAG didn't utterly fail on his defensively duties ...
Why any World-Class goalie would want to play in Vancouver befuddles me ... :seriously:
I feel sorry that Lu had to take the fall for the shitty D too and the only way to spark the team was to pull him.
Not to take anything away from Schneids but the crowd reaction from the goalie change just pissed me off. You could tell the people cheering were glad Lu got pulled, regardless of how shitty the D was. The way people cheer for Lu vs. Schneids on the same type saves is night and day. IIRC Cory made 9 stops and some fans act like he saved the day.
Both goalies played equally well tonight but they had different teams playing in front of them.

It's true. It just shows how talented Henrik is and doesn't need his brother on the ice. It's good to see a break from him, instead of him busy trying to set up his brother for a goal all the time. In fact, Henrik's MVP winning season was when Daniel was out for a significant amount of games.

All 3 canucks scoring in the shootout, that's pretty rare. (Has it ever happened before??)
I think Luongo could have saved Koivu's shot too.
So yeah, Schneider played well once again. A different Canuck team played in front of him.
And just the shootout alone proves it... All 3 shooters scoring?! :fulloffuck:
We have nights where people shit on Lu in the shootout when the canuck shooters fail to score on any attempts.
As for the Lu vs Schneider debate,
Schneider is definitely the more consistent goalie right now.
He hasn't let in any questionable goals, and the team seems to play better in front of him.
Getzlaf's goal was pretty soft, but the third and forth goals were quick releases point blank from the slot.
Not sure if Schneider would have stop them either. I guess it just looks soft cause they happened to be 5-hole goals.

This is surprising to me as well, as a Sabres fan I was beyond overjoyed when he was traded, he was often out of position, weak along boards and a turnover machine. He is still young, so hopefully AV can teach him some D.
Update on Hodgson and Sulzer, Cody has been playing very well after his slow start after the trade, but that was totally understandable as he was joining the Sabres just as the team was starting a road trip playing every other night after just coming off a road trip with the Canucks. Cody didn't even get in his first practice with the Sabres until a little over 2 weeks after the trade, since then he's been very good, creating a lot of chances finding some chemistry with Vanek and Tropp.
The biggest surprise is Sulzer, he's been absolutely fantastic, playing very solid D and is pretty hot offensively, 8pts in 15 games with Sabres, he's been quietly playing as the best defensemen on the Sabres latest hot streak and very key in their run since the trade deadline run of 12-4-2

Edmonton 2nd: Won Stanley Cup

Dallas 1st: Lost in Division Finals

True but Dan Cloutier is hardly the standard we should be measuring our goalies up against.
IMO, the fact that people have to use the Dan Cloutier argument in his defense is more damaging to his image than it is redeeming. He should be held up against the greats of the game, not the worst. Last year in the SCF, the team didn't need someone who was better than Cloutier, they needed someone who was better than Thomas.
The chick on the left is 24 and the Asian on the right is 21.

Found this post on HFboards:
Vancouver were 9-9-1 after their loss to Chicago on
Nov 16th, and they've gone 41-12-8 since. We've seen people hate on this team pretty hard at
times during this stretch too, which is just crazy.
The only teams to beat Vancouver in REGULATION over those 61 games were Nashville (2x), Carolina,
Calgary, Los Angeles, Florida, Anaheim, Buffalo,
Dallas, Montreal, Phoenix, and Minnesota.
Does this support the theories that this team is not showing up and lacking
motivation against the bottom feeders?

The biggest surprise is Sulzer, he's been absolutely fantastic, playing very solid D and is pretty hot offensively, 8pts in 15 games with Sabres, he's been quietly playing as the best defensemen on the Sabres latest hot streak and very key in their run since the trade deadline run of 12-4-2
On an off-topic note, I finally got to the trade deadline in my NHL12 GM mode ... time to make the trades that happened in real life. It's just a game but it gives a little bit to think about since EA Sports prides itself on accuracy and realism. This post is for shits'n giggles since Mason Raymond is also a 25+ goal scorer in here lol ...
Sebastian Erixon for Andrew Gordon:
Did not work, they wouldn't give up Gordon until I added a 3rd round draft pick.
Minority Winner: Canucks
Taylor Ellington + 2-4th round Picks for Samuel Pahlsson:
Also did not work, had to throw in a 2nd round draft pick to make it work.
Minority Winner: Canucks
Cody Hodgson & Sulzer for Zack Kassian & Gregnani:
Cody's 'Trade Value' meter in the game is really high, 4th highest on the team whereas Zack's value is near the bottom for Buffalo.
Sulzer and Greg's meter were about the same. I tried to add Buffalo's 1st and 2nd draft picks into the deal to take advantage of CoHo's high value but Buffalo's GM rejected my proposal on the basis that "Marc-Andre Gregnani has a lot of potential and upside who is going into his prime soon" so I was only able to snag a first round pick.
For now, majority winner: Buffalo
Some food for thought :derp:

There's not been much talk about Norris candidates here so far. Who would you vote for? You can't pick a Norris winner by point production alone for the league's best d-man, but the way Karlsson has put up numbers this year makes you think about his contributions.
Karlsson has absolutely owned every d-man and the majority of forwards in points and offensive production, but defensively has a ways to go yet. Weber and Chara are perennial favourites because of the completeness of their games, but is it enough to make up the 25+ pts (more than Mayray has all season for perspective) to Karlsson? Campbell and Pietrangelo have stepped up this year also, but I'm not sure they would make the top 3 this year.

Selke: Hmm, probably Bergeron/Datsyuk/Backes
Vezina: Lundqvist
karlsson will win the norris. he's got 77pts in 79 games, +19 and is one of the two reasons the sens are even in the playoffs. spezza being the other. if you look at where he ranks in most categories
points: 1st +/-: 13th toi: 9th. toi really is what helps his case as it shows he isnt being hidden from many things. his defence has actually been pretty good this year too.
the only other defencemen that really sticks out are chara who is 2nd in points, 1st in +/- and 13th in toi. but due to the system they play i dont think he will actually win it. then weber who is hurt by the fact suter plays/played with him.

Good game between Detroit and St. Louis. Thought they wouldn't be able to catch up after the short handed and the 4 on 4 goal but they ended up tieing it and winning in the shoot out. Great goaltending on both ends. Detroits first line just lit it up at the end of the third.

Based on the definition of the Norris winner I would personally vote for Webber but we all know a lot of people who are part of the voting will see 77 points and be blown away. I don't want to take anything away from Karlsson as I think he has had an amazing season but I believe Webber is the best in all areas.
Side note:
- Webber also has 19 goals
- I believe Karlsson will actually win. I believe quite a few people will vote for Karlsson based on his amazing 77points to date and also due to the fact that the rest will split votes between Chara and Webber thus favoring Karlsson.

Yes; Well, Weber was for sure...
To me Weber/Chara>>Karlsson defensively. Karlsson>Weber/Chara offensively. So Weber or Chara get the nod from me with that in mind. Karlsson has been decently good defensively while contributing a ton offensively, and the numbers will favour Karlsson. It's a different discussion if Karlsson was only leading by 5-10pts, but we're talking about 25 currently.
If Karlsson won I wouldn't be outraged but I hope offensive output does not turn into THE defining criteria for the Norris. Kind of like how many were arguing why Kesler deserved the Selke last year for scoring 41g when the award is for best defensive forward, something that is hard to define objectively.

Lidstrom has 7 Norris Trophies; I'm sure his earning of those have a lot more to do with his ability to put up points...He has been a shut-down defender; the same cannot be said Karlsson at this point in his career. Apart from point production, you cannot compare Karlsson to Lidstrom quite yet in terms of defensive ability...

My ass he got robbed....The only argument one could make for Weber is that Lidstrom had a +/- of -2...but thankfully, voters were well aware that that +/- is simply a "garbage glamour" stat and the award was given to the player who was most deserving: Nicklas Lidstrom.
Ronin
04-05-2012, 03:43 AM
Lidstrom won last year lol, so dont be surprised if Karlsson takes it
Lidstrom won last year because he's fucking amazing. Nicklas Lidstrom is a top...5, maybe even top 3 all time defenseman. He's not quite Orr but he's close to Bourque, considering the era he plays in. The man is a hockey playing robot. He probably should've won that aware at least 10 times. HOWEVER, yeah, Weber should've won last year but they all thought Lidstrom was retiring so they gave him the award I'm sure.
But what Karlsson is incredibly impressive, especially going from a -30 to a +19 on an Ottawa team not known for their defense. Way I see it is he's +19 on a team with a +13 goal differential. Weber is +18 on a +20 team, and Chara is +33 on a +60 Bruins team, which tells me Karlsson is better defensively than most of the rest of his team. I know the +/- stat is flawed but it's what we have. That alone makes Karlsson's season so much more impressive than the year Mike Green had 30 goals...because Mike Green is awful defensively.
Karlsson for Norris. People just assume he's not very good defensively because of his offensive output but if you've watched him play this year and last year, there's been massive improvement in his skating ability and defensive positioning.

^ stupid
^ you know what? If Boston Bruins had food at Ebisu on Robson and they said their wins were because of the great food there, I think Obsideon would totally tell the Bruins and Lucic to fuck right off, amiright, Obsideon?
Actually, food poisoning? LOL. just kidding.............just kidding.
I have this burning question I want answered. Burrows got his name, "Monster" from some guy on TSN. I believe we here at RS started calling him that right afterwards. Now, question......... how did Kesler get the name "Beast?" Did we start that here on RS? I remember we were talking about what to call him and Sundin at the time.
