So 4 PP goals for Canucks today?
Looking at that, it seems Canucks followed through on their game plan:
Playing the NHL's most penalized team vs NHL's best PP.

I watched the NESN feed. It's quite funny how biased they are. Every somewhat positive point made about a Canucks player was followed by something negative. Nearing the end of the game Jack Edwards kept saying how if it was 5 on 5 the bruins would've won etc...
Overall I'm happy we won but I'd be more happy if that cheap piece of shit Marchand gets suspended.

makes you wonder what woulda happened if the refs called the playoffs like they did today.
that being said, im happy the canucks played their game and didnt fall too far into the boston game. but i think boston still wins a 7 game series simply by wearing the canucks down. the canucks can play bostons game for a game or 2. but boston plays that game every night all season.

Well done Canucks! Happy to see our skill defeat the schoolyard bully tactics of the bad news Bruins. -good to see douchebags like Lucic and Marchand get penalties. It's a bloody disgrace to see the defending champs play the beautiful game like MMA. Lucic puts a headlock on Bieksa and Marchand does a cheap clip on Sami. What a joke!
-good to Schneider win a big game in front of his friends and family. :fuckyea:

bruins postgame comments were stupid. julien basically had no problem with what marchand did and was happy he defended himself after the hit. thornton saying in scrums his number one worry was getting his finger bitten.

No...I think it was the fact he was moved from the left side to the right side. Thats why he was lost. He's played on the left side his whole life that's why.
...If not and Edler really relies on Salo, imagine Edler next year. Salo's most likely retiring/going to the UFA market.

more like if the organization took the same approach as most teams in developing their young guys. give the kids a stronger chance to succeed. assuming the game isn't on the line/crucial situation, play the kids more. not only give them more minutes, but give them some quality line mates to experiment with chemistry.
coho's class has gotten a solid 3 or 4 seasons in the nhl already while coho is still getting shit minutes and benched often. but he uses all the ice time he gets and proves management he deserves a spot. :fuckyea:

personally i don't think grabner would have turned into a potential calder trophy winner if he was wearing a vancouver jersey. we barely gave him any minutes and threw him on the 4th line. i'm glad he's doing well over in ny.
feels like the canucks are notorious for not giving the younger guys a chance early on and prefer to ride out the vets/established players as long as they can. iirc schneids was drafted 2004. it wasn't until 2010-2011 that he played his full season. i mean schneids lived up to the expectation and arguably is the better than luongo in every aspect. over the same span or less GP, his stats are better. he still had to work hard to get where he is right now. realistically i don't us being able to persuade him to stay much longer. without listing all the points, the main reason that stands out: he wants to be a starter somewhere. which is more important than earning a big, high salary contract as a back up for any team.

Great post b0unce. [?]. However, its debateable though.
Hodgson's the same position as a Hart trophy winner and a Selke winner. What's AV suppose to do? Bench them both so Hodgson can get more minutes?
I'm just glad he isn't on the 4th line playing with plugs like Oreskovich and Fanner Glass [yes Fanner cause he fanned on Tanev's pass in game 5 during the finals]
Don't get me wrong, I've been supporting Hodgson since he got drafted in 2008 and I'm glad he's making the most of his minutes and producing.

It's not a fault to have one of the deepest teams in the league. Honestly who knew Grabner would explode out the gates like that, it did seem like he had potential but he wasn't exactly the "Bure of the AHL" when he was playing on the Moose either. At the time the trade was good (I still think it's not bad), we needed defensive depth and Keith Ballard was one of Florida's most consistent and healthy d-men. At least we didn't give him up for nothing a la waivers which would have REALLY sucked. Hodgson is awesome but he's playing behind Henrik Sedin and Ryan Kesler, do you expect either of them to slide down to fit a developing rookie in a cup-contending year?... Hodgson is not really a defensive force to be solid on the checking line either. I think we've done a fine job so far considering the circumstances and he has adjusted well. It's too bad Malhotra's eye injury has affected him this much this year ... kinda sucks but at the same time you gotta feel for him... I mean his eyeball almost exploded!
Schneider is really damn good but he's also playing behind one of the top goaltenders in the world, what do you expect management to do? Ship out Luongo so Schnieder can be the #1?... then who would back him up? We would be back in the rotating door cycle with the likes of a not-ready Lack, or picking up floaters like Flaherty, Hedberg, Lebarbera? Therefore costing us a legitimate chance at the cup in the coming years.
I think we are following the Detroit Red Wings model of prospect building ... when you are constantly in contention for the cup, you don't throw in kids into the big leagues, you develop them in the AHL program. We are not the Oilers who ONLY have young kids to work with, albiet they are exciting and skilled, but they will not win the cup, not even close, possibly not even make the playoffs, but they are developing, for the future, possibly at least 3 years more.

sure, why not? if the team has a comfortable lead, why not take away 1 or 2 shifts from guys like manny or raymond and give the less experienced guys a bit more ice time. i don't see how that could hurt. like i said before, assuming the game isn't on the line or something, i feel like it should be fine.
Schneider is really damn good but he's also playing behind one of the top goaltenders in the world, what do you expect management to do? my point was that. yeah of course ideally we would want to keep schneider as our backup for as long as possible. it feels great (from a fan POV) knowing that going into the playoffs if luongo is injured or needs a day off, everyone is confident in schneider's abilities. i just try to look at what's realistically going to happen. schneider's stock has sky rocketed, everyone knows that. you're right, it's impossible to ship out luongo, he's branded canucks4lyfe already. but i'm sure i speak for a lot of members... in a perfect-fantasy situation, if i could move lu and have schneids as my starter, i would. i wouldn't mind giving that eddie lack fellow a chance as backup :accepted:

The Canucks develop prospects just fine. At least ever since Gillis arrived.
Hodgson had a huge setback with his back injury or else I'm quite sure he would have played a bigger role last year. He's a top 6 center but obviously with Hank and Kes as our top 2 already he will get limited ice time being the 3rd line centre. I do think he will eventually slide to the #2 role in a couple years with Kes converting to a winger (played wing with Sundin).
As for Grabner, he himself admitted he sucked shit here and in Florida. Getting waived was a huge wake up call to him. But IMO he is overrated and way too one-dimensional.
Fact is we have a deep team and prospects are going to have to really earn a spot, they won't be handed one.

And I wouldn't consider Grabner one-dimensional... he's an explosive skater, sports an exceptional goal-scoring touch, soft hands, offensive instincts, can play either wing, knows how to put the puck in the net and can excel in short-handed situations.

And what did you think of Luongo when he first arrived in Vancouver? He was prasied like a God around here and I'm sure 99% of the fans were glad we had him and probably wanted to sign him to a life long contract. Now look at the years after; he's had some up and down years but for the most part he's been good. He's a veteran guy in the league and has proven that he can win (at least in the regular season) and yet people still want to get rid of him now because apparently Cory Schneider who has played a career high 26 games last year will be the next big thing right? Kinda like how Lu was a big deal when he first got here? You just can't predict the future - Cory could really become the next big deal or he could fizzle out after a few years.

:lol under AV's reign, Grabner would likely be stuck being a 4th line grinder or a 3rd line winger. Some players explode out of the gate (Edmonton's rookie line, Crosby, Ovie, etc.) while as some take a bit longer.
I remember how painful it was watching Kesler develop as a younger guy on the Canucks. He was given plenty of ice time but from what everybody saw, he was merely a feisty grinder. We endured a few years of that before realizing he actually had the offensive upside, which the scouts saw. Same deal with Burrows. Now we praise them like gods.
From a fan perspective, it is really difficult to judge whether or not the players would reach their potentials.
IMO, AV will always fall back on his defensive system, and as such would favour people with a more defensive game. This is why players like Grabner and Shirokov would not develop very well nor be given as much opportunity on the Canucks.

U guys think if Raymond or Higgins begins to slump, AV will put CoHo on Keslers wing? Coho has alot more offensive upside than those 2, and it will give him a chance to play more minutes. We have Max who can easily play that 3rd line center role aswell.

Get well soon! had some fun with the article:smug:
Canucks' Salo has concussion; Marchand hearing expected (http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=384561)
Vancouver Canucks defenceman Sami Salo has a concussion after he took a low-bridge hit from Rat-Face during Saturday's game in Boston.
Canucks general manager Mike Gillis delivered the news Sunday. Pinocchio was assessed a clipping major and game misconduct for the hit that flipped Salo over in the Boston zone late in the second period.
Play was stopped after the hit, and after a few moments Salo was able to skate off the ice on his own. The blueliner did not return to the game.
Shorty is expected to have a hearing with NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan to discuss the incident on Monday, although the meeting has not officially been set.
The 23-year-old Rat-Face has been suspended before. He was given a two-game ban last March for an elbow to the head of Columbus forward R.J. Umberger.
Long nose Pinocchio was also fined $2,500 last month for slew-footing Pittsburgh defenceman Matt Niskanen.
The Canucks earned a spirited 4-3 win over the Bruins on Saturday in the first meeting between the teams since the Stanley Cup Final last year.

Marchand to face hearing Monday
Sunday, 01.08.2012 / 2:31 PM / News
NHL.com
Boston's Brad Marchand will have a hearing with Brendan Shanahan and the Department of Player Safety Monday.
The hearing concerns a hit Marchand delivered on Sami Salo late in the second period of the Bruins' loss to Vancouver Saturday afternoon. During the hit, Marchand collided with Salo's knee area and caused him to land hard onto the ice. Salo did not return to the game.
Marchand was assessed a five-minute major for clipping and a game misconduct on the play.

I dunno, man, I think they are pretty close to snapping.
When they do snap, I hope they know how to fight and not start bitch slapping the opponent like whatshisnuts (forgot who it was that slapped rather than throw real punches). I hope they don't take swipes at their opponents with their sticks, either.
Any footage of them fighting?

I don't think Lucic should get any kind of suspension, and this coming from a Sabres' fan who had our goalie run by Looch. He had one foot on the ice, one foot on the bench, going to the bench, so really he didn't come off the bench to get in the scrum. Canucks' also had 6 men on the ice.
Marchand should at least get 4-5 games minimum. That was a dirty and dangerous play, he knew what he was doing, especially being a repeat offender, has to be 4-5 games IMO.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have fired head coach Scott Arniel. The move comes a day after the Blue Jackets were defeated 7-4 by the Anaheim Ducks in a meeting of the NHL's worst teams.
Assistant coach Todd Richards will take over on an interim basis for the remainder of the season.
The Blue Jackets are 11-25-5 this season, which has them last in the Western Conference with a league-low 27 points - 20 points out of a playoff position.
"We have two wins in our last 11 games," general manager Scott Howson said. "I just wanted to move the team in a new direction with a different head coach. Scott tried everything and he was running out of answers. I didn't see much hope in moving forward with him. I just felt this needed to be done."
Arniel is the seventh NHL coaching change this season. St. Louis, Washington, Carolina, Anaheim, Los Angeles and Montreal all previously dismissed coaches.
Arniel, who was the fifth head coach in Blue Jackets history, was in his second season behind the bench in Columbus and was coming off a debut campaign where his team finished 13th in their conference, missing the playoffs by 16 points. He compiled a 45-60-18 record in 123 games with the club.
The 49-year-old bench boss was hired to replace veteran coach Ken Hitchcock who was fired during the 2009-10 season.
Prior to taking the job with the Blue Jackets, Arniel was the head coach of the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League.
Richards, who joined the club as an assistant coach on June 20, 2011, will make his debut behind the Blue Jackets bench on Tuesday when the club visits the Chicago Blackhawks.
"There's one emotion that's real prevalent right now and that's just disappointment," said Richards. "When somebody has to go, somebody that brought you in as a coach ... I think you feel more responsible as an assistant because you're there to support the head coach and help him out.
"You feel afterwards there's more you could have done, more you should have done."
The 45-year-old compiled a 77-71-16 record as the head coach of the Minnesota Wild from 2009-11. He was named the second head coach in Wild history on June 16, 2009 and led the club to a 38-36-8 record in 2009-10 and a 39-35-8 mark in 2010-11. Prior to joining the Wild, he served as an assistant coach with the San Jose Sharks in 2008-09 when the club compiled an NHL-best 53-18-11 record.

CANOE -- SLAM! Sports - Hockey NHL - Los Angeles - Penner sidelined by pancakes (http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Hockey/NHL/LosAngeles/2012/01/09/19219696.html)
Los Angeles Kings forward Dustin Penner says he was injured while eating a plate of pancakes over the weekend, sidelining him for a game.
"Apparently it's one of those mysterious things, where you can throw it [back] out [from] sneezing," the L.A. Kings Insider reported Penner saying.
"I just leaned over to dip into some delicious pancakes that my wife made. It's just like it [the pain] wraps around you and squeezes. So it was disappointing. Hopefully it's just an isolated incident, and not something that's going to become chronic."
He said his back hurt so bad he needed his wife's help to put on his clothes.

the main difference betweeen the raymond and marchand hits
mayray was carying the puck and flipped it passed marchand and then tried to squeek by him. marchand was taking a run at raymond
marchand and salo were both going for a loose puck and marchand chose to take out salos ankles instead of play the body/puck. salo was skating in to play the puck. marchand didnt even touch the puck.
they look like the same hit: guy going low, other guy dumping over the top. but the PLAYs were completely different.
RRxtar
01-09-2012, 12:39 PM
this is a new thing that seems to be popping up in the last few years more often tho. guys seeing a guy coming in at them and going low to get out of the way of the check. guys used to brace to take the hit, or try to move to the side. this new thing leaves players so vulnerable. you take out a guys legs whos moving with momentum and suddenly they are now going to hit wherever they land head first. i think there were a couple times last season where the guy went low to get out of the way of the hit and the guy went over the top face first into the boards. that shit is dirty and dangerous.
i bet you they dont teach that in pee-wee when they introduce body contact.
