It's not just one game. The Canucks are stuck
with the reputation of being the biggest divers in
the NHL. They got that reputation last playoffs
because 1) They were good enough to warrant
national attention and 2) They blatantly did it.
Every team does it, yes, but the Canucks are
terrible at it and it shows. That picture of
Kesler's head tilted back like a swan on the first
Canucks goal is both hilarious and pathetic at
the same time.
Bieksa first brought the diving issue up to the
locker room and Gillis followed suit in the off-
season. They did a fantastic job of playing
regular hockey through the entire season. It was
nice watching the Canucks play with integrity
and no suspensions for so long. First game of
the playoffs and literally any progress they made
since the Finals disappeared. Bitz rams a guy
into the boards for a suspension (costing us a
goal, too), Kesler pulls off two A+ dives, Luongo
adds his own dive to the show, and Burrows
finishes it off with his own routine. I don't even
think Sedin's fall was a dive, but even if you take
that out the Canucks were still a joke last night.
You can embellish a bit to draw a call, but
snapping your head back and doing cartwheels
does nothing but look stupid. I prefer being able
to come on HFBoards without sifting through
dozens of trolls talking about how embarrassing
this team is. You can't even argue with them
because aside from the exaggerations, they have
a point.
I really hope Bieksa pulled another speech out
of his ass after the game last night. I don't think
I can take another month of watching this crap,

VANCOUVER — Ryan Kesler was not a happy camper on Monday when he was informed about a comment made by Vancouver Canucks head coach Alain Vigneault about his game.

After Sunday night’s lacklustre 4-2 loss to the Anaheim Ducks, Vigneault was asked what was wrong with Kesler, whose numbers are down this season.

“I think he has to use the players around him a little bit more so that he can get into open space and create the type of offensive chances and be the type of defensive player that he can be,” Vigneault said of Kesler, who failed to register a shot on goal in more than 19 minutes of ice time against the Ducks.

Kesler was not aware of those comments until Monday and bristled when they were put to him by reporters following the team’s practice at Rogers Arena.

“Me utilize my players?” Kesler said, before adding: “Obviously, I don’t know what he means by that and if he wants to say that he can come to me and talk to me about it.

“I am going to play my game, the things that have made me successful. I know what that is and if he wants to come talk to me he is more than welcome.”

Kesler had off-season hip surgery and missed the first five games of the regular season.

This season, he has 12 goals and 31 points in 40 games. Last season, Kesler had a career-high 41 goals, 73 points and won the Selke Trophy as the NHL’s top defensive forward.

Asked Monday if he was living up to his own expectations this season, Kesler said: “Some games, yeah. Obviously, no one is perfect. I am far from it. I go on the ice expecting the best and I am going to expect the best (Tuesday) night.”

The Canucks play host to the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night.

Kesler acknowledged it took him some time to feel like he had completely recovered from his hip surgery when he returned this season.

“The first 10 or 15 games I just didn’t have it, but I feel my game and skating is back to where it should be at,” he said.

After Monday’s practice, Vigneault emphasized that Kesler is not the only top Canuck player struggling.

“Ryan and Hank and Danny (Sedin), I can name quite a few other guys who (are struggling),” Vigneault said. “Sometimes players are going to be a little bit off. Right now we have a couple of guys who are just a tad off. They are aware of it, it’s not from lack of preparation or trying. You are going to get these moments in a season.”

Vigneault also addressed the inconsistency of Kesler’s play.

“I think in Ryan’s case what happens is he has shown that high, high-end level at really critical times the type of player he can be,” Vigneault said. “And that’s a really tough thing to be able to maintain in an 82-game schedule. Everybody is looking to Ryan to do that on a consistent basis. That’s not easy for any player to do.

“Ryan being the competitive individual that he is will always try to achieve that standard. It’s not easy, so he’s working on trying to get himself there and get himself there on that consistent basis.”

What do you expect when tickets are going for $500?? If you want to see the people that make noise and are wearing canucks gear instead of suit jackets, look towards the upper bowl. CBC's feed is very shitty compared to SN or TSN. I hate HNIC because the blue colours and sound are all fucked up.

Many wore Canucks jerseys I am sure. The cheering is not as loud because they toned down the crowd volume. Watching almost every regular season game I started to tell the difference between a weekday game and a HNIC game. Plus the Broco Autoglass and Budget B&B ads are just awful.

All teams in playoffs get money...The money increases as the team advances. The money is split between all the players. Is it a lot? No, but the bigger names get bonuses anyway and, really, playoffs is a situation in which a player can really make a name for himself and end up receiving huge pay-raises...but all this is besides the point.

I don't admire them for being able to do that...If I was getting paid millions of dollars by my team and playing for an even bigger contract in the future, I would make sure I have that kind of conditioning and stamina as well....Do I envy them? For sure, but I definitely don't admire them for being able to do so. For millions of dollars, I'll work on my conditioning all day too....that's expected...

I would like to think players are getting paid for everything, even if not directly.
Most people calculate their salary just based on how many games they play, how many shifts they play, etc.
Without thinking about all the practices they have to go through,
and all the other stuff they have to do outside of practices,
like keeping fit year round (or most of the year anyway).
And I'm sure the best players can't rely on just official team practices to get better.
They gotta go practice on their own, especially in the summer.

If it's just based on conditioning (not hockey skills),
it's not that hard to make it your day job to just go work out and train all day if you're getting paid millions of dollars.
Most of us wouldn't invest that time cause it's just a "waste of time", and our career doesn't revolve around it.
Actors do it all the time to bulk up or slim down by hiring personal trainers to prepare for their roles.
And they're pretty much getting paid to do that, since it's for a movie.
(I'm comparing body built for image vs pro athlete conditioning here, but same principle)

And if you're getting paid to play competitive hockey, you'll probably be pretty good over a period of time.
Not necessarily NHL level, but I wouldn't be surprised if you end up pretty damn good.

But they've been STUDIED!!! Like a book. So obvious. Kings are a structured patient team, doesn't run around and works extremely hard with such good tempo.
