So whats everyone's though on the Schneider issue.. where do think he will go...
Hes doing awesome and seems like a lot team could use younger starting goalie..
Lu, is good... but hes got maybe 3 seasons left until he starts dropping in performance..
I would hate to see Schneider gone buts gotta get his career started somewhere..

Where? That's easy. The Florida Panthers of course. Where else? Why? Cuz of the many many trades made between these 2 teams over the years. It's like the 2 GM's have each other on speed dial. For who? Well the Panthers do have a stud Dman named Jason Garrison who also happens to be from here. Maybe Schneids and Raymond for Garrison and Clemmenson plus some draft picks thrown in? Now I'm not claiming I can tell the future or anything, I'm just basing all this on the many trades made by 2 teams to each other over the years. And lets face it, Theodore is not the long term answer in Florida, Markstrom? The guy has 2 career victories so they're looking for an upgrade. Enter Schnieds. Clem would be perfect here, a career backup with no aspirations of every becoming a starter and someone who's capable of geting a few wins here and there.

Thatd be a ripoff for Vancouver. Florida would have to give up Versteeg++ for Schneider. That's how high Schneiders value is.
I'd love to get Downie from TB for Schneider. Not straight up of course.
But as of right now, I'd rather keep Schneider till draft day for this years playoff run.

For that reason, there may be a chance Schneider will be willing to stay in Vancouver. From a goalie's perspective, sure he may want to be a #1 goalie. But he should also understand the value of being a #1.5 goalie on a great team vs. being a #1 goalie on a bottom dwelling team. As much as any goalie wants to be a #1 in the NHL, I think they want to win and win the cup even more. Realistically, Schneider knows he won't be the type of goalie to only play 15-20 games a season if he sticks around here and he will continue to earn a greater role with the team. The only sticking point is what Schneider will want for a new contract as Lu's caphit and term are a bit of a handcuff.
Lu's NTC has an outclause in year 5 and 7 of his contract. If Schneider is willing to stick around another couple years and gradually take on a greater role, I think the Canucks offer Lu the opportunity to move on, and good chance Lu takes up the offer especially if we can win a cup here before then. Both Florida and Tampa would be great trade partners in this instance so Lu could go 'home'; Tampa will likely have a proper goalie by the time that happens though.

When you're in your prime it's all about the benjamins. You can be assured if the Canucks aren't going to offer him top dollar (which they don't have for a backup) he's going to go get it somewhere else. He's one knee tear or terrible season away from missing out on a huge payday so athletes got to get it when they can. It's especially true when their young.

Reinprecht seems a bit undersized. How's his defensive play?
highfive
02-13-2012, 03:45 PM
Reinprecht is 6' 188lbs.
ASSETS: Has excellent speed, natural offensive instincts and a good shot. Is defensively responsible and effective at all three forward positions.
FLAWS: Doesn't produce consistently. Lacks strength and gets pushed off the puck too easily. His NHL game has been in decline for a while.
CAREER POTENTIAL: Versatile veteran depth forward.
Just googled him.
I didn't realize he was traded for Ballard.
7/03/2003 Colorado Avalanche traded Steve Reinprecht to the Buffalo Sabres for Keith Ballard; then the Buffalo Sabres traded Steve Reinprecht and Rhett Warrener to the Calgary Flames for Chris Drury and Steve Begin.

He was in the minors. Salary didn't go against the cap but they still needed to pay him ($2,175,000 in the minors). Essentially the draft pick was an extra incentive for Gillis to take on the contract, therefore opening a contract spot on the team and saving the Florida owners $$$. It was still a pleasant surprise that it was that high but it makes sense. IIRC, Gillis said that he would already be up with the team if it wasn't for re-entry waivers. After the deadline, it should be fine since it makes no sense for a team to claim him as he will be unable to join them for the playoffs and he's a UFA at the end of the season. In the meantime, it seems as if he's had a positive influence on the prospects.
Also it was pretty funny that Madden had signed and was released by the Wolves just before Reinprecht came. Now Madden is with the Panthers.
Thank god we have owners now that are willing to pay more for the team's success. Not like with John McCaw/Stan McCammon.

Wouldn't he need to go through Waivers before even reaching the NHL. Not sure why anyone would trade with that risk involved. Unless you just kept him buried until the playoffs start.

i believe last year had more impact players available. although that can change by the trade deadline depending how some teams play from now til then. also last years draft was deeper meaning picks had more value.

I would say keeping Schnieder gives the Canucks the best chance to win now. As an insurance policy for this year and as an imminent replacement for Luongo when he becomes moveable.
My only concern in keeping Schnieder, rather than trading him, while his value is at its highest without actually being a starter, is the message it sends to Luongo. The guy is emotionally fragile (most goalies are to varying degrees) and management seems to be trying to shield him from some of the big games this season like the Boston game. I didn't buy into the reasoning that they wanted to give Schnieder a start in front of his home crowd. That game could have been massively helpful to Luongo's self esteem or massively harmful depending on the outcome and they went with the low risk option instead which was still a bit harmful in a way.
If keeping Schnieder does harm Luongo mentally and it effects his performance when he is needed in the playoffs, you will have to rely on Schnieder. But what if Schnieder, once finally having the bigger role as the go to guy, falters instead of thrives?
If you trade Schnieder for a decent return and say to Luongo that he is the guy they are going with, it could work too. Not an easy choice but I'd still lean towards keeping Schnieder

Intriguing.....
MCKENZIE: BLUE JACKETS' NASH AVAILABLE FOR RIGHT TEAM
The 2012 NHL trade deadline just got a whole lot more interesting.
Last night, RDS (TSN's French language sister station) reporter Renaud Lavoie reported that Columbus Blue Jacket franchise player Rick Nash "is on the market."
This morning, Columbus Dispatch reporter Aaron Portzline wrote on his blog that "for the first time, (the Blue Jackets) are willing to listen to offers for captain Rick Nash."
While it's easy, and sometime necessary, to get hung on precise terminology on a story like this one -- the differences between "on the market" as opposed to "listening to offers" as opposed to "being shopped" -- here's the bottom line:
Last week, in no uncertain terms, NHL teams were told Nash was not available and this week, he is. For the right team, anyway.
Less than two weeks to the NHL trade deadline, that is nothing less than a seismic shift.
That doesn't mean he'll necessarily be traded by the deadline but it does mean there has been a significant change in his status from last week to this week.
And while sources have confirmed to TSN what Lavoie and Portzline respectively reported in the last 12 hours, the real story is this:
None of this would or could be happening if Rick Nash didn't want it to happen.
As one source asked rhetorically, "How does a player with a No Movement Clause end up in trade talk?"
Easy answer to that one: because he's permitted it.
Understand this, with a player of Nash's stature -- a first overall draft pick, the face and identity of the Blue Jackets' franchise, a world-class talent and Canadian Olympian with an outstanding international hockey resume -- there is no chance that Columbus general manager Scott Howson would get involved in any trade talk for Nash without the player's blessing.
He couldn't. It would be worse than bad form.
For any GM to even entertain offers on a star player with a no-move clause without that player's tacit approval is a cardinal sin. There are few secrets in this game and if a GM "shopped" or "listened" to offers on a NMC star it's only a matter of time until the word filters back to the player and that would represent a huge violation of trust between the player and the organization.
So for Howson to have discussions with any team, and for other NHL teams to know the Jackets are to some degree open for business on Nash, one must conclude that Nash is fully on board with whatever it is that is happening right now.
That doesn't necessarily means he's asked for a trade or that he's unequivocally stated he wants to escape from the chronic losing in Columbus. But he's said something and whether he initiated it -- which is the usual protocol in these instances -- or the Blue Jackets broached the subject with him and he merely responded to them, the inescapable conclusion is Howson's actions thus far have the Rick Nash seal of approval.
This story wouldn't have gotten to the public domain if that weren't true.
These things are always dicey. No franchise player wants to be perceived as wanting to jump ship. Just because the Blue Jackets are listening to offers doesn't mean a deal gets done and Nash may have to remain in Columbus.
And this story leaking out as it has further complicates things for Nash and the Blue Jackets.
One would imagine that Nash has an extremely limited list of destinations he would deem suitable. Standard protocol in this situation would be for the player to give the GM the greenlight to deal only with a select few clubs. But with the news breaking that Nash may be available for trade, Howson's phone will light up like a Christmas tree. About half the teams in the league would have interest in trying to secure this player, but there are probably only a handful, or less, that interest Nash.
Make no mistake, though, by virtue of his NMC, Nash is totally driving the bus on this. He effectively can dictate how many teams are legitimately in the hunt for his services and ultimately which one is his final destination. Or, at any time he sees fit, he can end the process if he's uncomfortable with it in any regard.
Ultimately, it's in his hands and his hands alone.

To get someone like Nash would end up being a prospect + top 6 forwad / top 4 D + 1st rounders or more draft picks.
You can compare it to the Heatley trade but Nash is a far better player.
Tegra_Devil
02-14-2012, 10:25 AM

Tim Budong
02-14-2012, 10:49 AM
Rick Nash is a consistent 70pt man on a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE hockey team
Heres an interesting take in my books...
only Iginla, Ovechkin, Perry, Kovalchuk and Heatley have MORE goals than Rick Nash in the past FIVE seasons
Rick Nash is TURNING 28 this year, has 8mil/yr contract with 6 years left
Its going to be tough for a CONTENDER to add Nash onto the roster. Most contenders DO NOT have 8mil in cap space for next season. Although from looking at capgeek, it seems that the KINGS could afford him next season as Jared Stoll, Willie Mitchell and Dustin Penner become UFAs next year. But the the Kings have traded away quite a future away to acquire Mike Richards. Most teams with established Top 6 forwards and top 4 D wont be willing to blow up their teams so easily either.
Will the GM of the CBJ, scott howson even have a job at the end of the season is yet to be seen. The bluejackets are dealing with the face of their franchise here. The fan support is already nonexistent, and Rick Nash is probably one of their last straws for the struggling franchise. There really isn't much left in terms of prospects for CBJ, so the asking price for Nash is going to be ABSOLUTELY insane for an established player.
The sad truth is that Jeff Carter is a cancer and no team will take him. Jeff Carter's NTC kicks in after this season as well.
The only bright light for CBJ is that they could try to move RJ Umberger or Antoine Vermette. The return might not be as wonderful, but its a start for CBJ to rebuild around Nash/Carter

Now how much is Nash worth to us? What kind of realistic deal would the canucks offer for Nash.
For us to fit him into the cap, we would have to let go Booth, Ballard and maybe Schnieder aswell

Schnieds MayRay Ballard Booth plus 1st wouldn't do the trick to land Nash
It would be fucking sexy to see Nash in a Canucks uniform with him + Kesler
Nash is great, but to have trade so many pieces away for one man commanding 8mil in cap is too rich for our very balanced (now struggling) offence.
but to be honest. The canucks need a crushing Dman.

I agree with darthwilli. We need a dman but most likely won't land anyone significant at the deadline. Maybe a better 5th or 6th unless something monumental happens which would involve a large package of players..
If Higgins can get healthy and stay healthy, I can see the amex line doing very well in the playoffs. Size, strength, tenacity and that willingness to go to the front of the net.
Derek_N84

^ agreed.
I'm not worried about the top 6, I'm more concerned about the bottom 6. We need more grit and size. We need that kind of Dustin Byfug, Ben Bolland, Andrew Ladd kind of line/players. Those guys just grinded and wore down the opposititon so badly.

Anyone who thinks nucks would even look at carter is nuts
MG puts character almost higher than skill when looking at players, carter would never be a Canuck under MG
Posted via RS Mobile (http://www.revscene.net/forums/announcement.php?a=228)
I'd love to see Nash here, moreso than Weber or any other d-man in the league. But he's the type of guy that you build your team around, not bring in to complement the core you have already. We're too far into our build process to fit a guy like Nash in; too bad.
I'm not sure where people are coming from saying the Canucks need another top 6 fwd to do well. We got that guy in Booth. So prior to getting Booth, these same people were thinking we'd need 2 more top 6 fwd's to get the job done? If/when Higgins is firing on all cylinders, the 2nd line will be huge with Kes and Booth.
I believe the Sedins have been taking some time and energy off their game for the past month. It's not unusual for elite athletes to taper back their training regimen to conserve juice for the actual event--in this case the Cup run. That's the only reasonable explanation. You don't have back to back Art Ross winners play so average all of a sudden on such a regular basis. With their overwhelmingly mediocre play, the Canucks still winning, I hope this is a tactic that will payoff.

FYP. But it always works. I'm amazed something so simple works so consistently.
Burrows has the one move that always works too. But then he decided to change things up and be more creative. His deke to backhand top corner is unstoppable as long as he does the forehand fake properly, even if the goalie knows that the forehand is just a fake.

Nash is not worth as much as ppl think. #1 - he's limited to where he goes. #2 - $8million dollar contract, the team needs to have enough cap space and budget to pay for him. for 6 more years.
Honestly, I be happy if Gillis is able to get a player like Gaustad and/or a defenceman.

I doubt Nash would fetch for that much in a trade. Why? The CBJ have like zero leverage here. The fact we're even talking bout the availability of Nash means he's asked for a trade. CBJ knows that they can't win with him in the lineup and the best thing for that franchise is to trade him for young assets and rebuild. Other teams know this so I doubt they'll get an offer anywhere near as good as coho, schneider, Tanev and a first. It'll be similar to what the sens got when they had to trade away Heatley.

Hell fucking no. That is not debatable. Nash has never been a PPG player in his entire career. Mike Gillis is not stupid to take on a 8 mill cap hit for a player you can barely define as a "star". Before anyone replies with "Oh but he's never had any good players to play with." look at Iginla, guy has played with scrubs most of his career and still put up PPG numbers.

I wish I could thank you on mobile.
Nash is a good player, but his caphit is high and I have a hard time considering him a "franchise" player.

Are you kidding me? No shit, he's basically got the weight of the entire CBJ organization on his shoulders. Hard to produce when everyone around you is shit.
It's a fair argument, and I'll use it. The Flames aren't the same, at least they have a shot at the playoffs once in a while, CBJ is consistently trash. 70ish points/season playing on a losing team with a losing attitude is impressive.

I still find it funny how Columbus brings in Carter and CLB becomes worse than before :lawl:

I'll be ok with any CBJ trade to Vancouver that involves Nash as long as we also get Grant Clitsome! Imagine the signs at Rogers Arena.

bruins getting pwnd again
I think Nash is a superstar, unfortunately, he's been buried in a shitty organization with a terrible development program. He hasn't really had anyone to play with his entire career.
He could easily be a 90 point player with a real team.

Nash is the power forward that every team would love to have but the hit on cap would just be too much for most as mentioned. Whereever he goes, I do not want him to go to L.A.

I've seen the reports that Nash is on the block...but with Columbus having the all star game next year, who will they sell as the superstar?
