So we all know DiPietro has been more injury plagued than Sam Jackson in Unbreakable since signing his 15 year contract and finally he was healthy to start this year.
Well he was already on IR due to a groin strain, after he came back from a concussion earlier this season, somehow while on IR, he hurt himself again and now has to have season ending surgery :haha::haha::haha::haha::haha: only 9 more years on that contract
StapeNewsday Arthur Staple
Breaking #Isles news: Rick DiPietro to have surgery Tuesday to repair a sports hernia. Season likely done.

i never understand what the flames are trying to do with their team.
some years they appear they want to rebuild, and some years they try for that last minute cup run when they have nothing.
like when they acquired tanguay and jokinen, they were playing pretty bad. they finally managed to dump jokinen, but ended up paying full price for the garbage they got rid of :lol
although bourque isnt panning out and projected so far, if they plan on building for the future, they gotta keep some more young guys.
idk, maybe i'm just looking at this from a weird perspective...

if we didn't already know:
Canucks Gameday: Booth's back as Canucks return home to face the Anaheim Ducks (http://www.vancouversun.com/sports/Canucks+Gameday+Booth+back+Canucks+return+home+fac e+Anaheim+Ducks/5999229/story.html)
Canucks Gameday: Booth's back as Canucks return home to face the Anaheim Ducks - Vancouver winger has been out since Dec. 6 with knee injury
GAME DAY: TODAY, 6 p.m. PST, ROGERS ARENA ANAHEIM DUCKS at VANCOUVER CANUCKS
Radio: Team 1040; TV: Sportsnet
The Vancouver Canucks will welcome back winger David Booth tonight at Rogers Arena when they kick off a lengthy six-game homestand against the Anaheim Ducks.
Booth, who has been out since spraining a knee in a Dec. 6 game against the Colorado Avalanche, will skate tonight on Vancouver's second line with Ryan Kesler and Chris Higgins.
"I am really excited especially since the team has been playing well and you want to be a part of it," Booth said after this morning's game-day skate. "I feel like my leg is finally getting back to where it needs to be."
Booth, who was acquired in an early-season trade with the Florida Panthers, seemed to finally be finding his game before he was hurt on a hit by Colorado's Kyle Porter. The game before he got injured, Booth had scored a goal and added two assists in Vancouver's 5-1 win over the Calgary Flames on Dec. 4.
"It's always tough when you miss five or six weeks," Booth said. "You know what, the best thing to do is keep it simple at the start and not try to do too much. I am playing with good players so if I just keep my game simple, I think that will help a lot."
"He has been working extremely hard at getting himself in a physical and mental place where he can come on the ice and hopefully just continue where he was before," added Vancouver coach Alain Vigneault. "Is that going to happen? You never know with an injury, especially an injury that takes the amount of time that it took for him to get back. He was playing some really good hockey, he was really contributing both offensively with good speed and taking pucks to the net. Hopefully he will be able to continue to do that."
The Canucks face an Anaheim team tonight that seems to finally have, well, all its ducks in a row.
The Ducks are 4-0-1 in their last five games, are coming off a 5-0 win over the Edmonton Oilers and their big names, most notably Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf, are showing signs of life.
Perry has five goals and seven points in his last five games and Getzlaf had four assists in Anaheim's win in Edmonton.
"I can only talk for myself here but there's a team where every time we play them I am saying, 'wow, these guys have got a really good team,'" Vigneault said. "They have got an all-star (first) line, their second line, all Finnish players but all elite world-class players. So they have got two lines that can come at you hard."
In addition to the return of Booth, the Canucks will make one other lineup change tonight. Defenceman Keith Ballard, who was a healthy scratch Thursday night in St. Louis, will play tonight and skate with Alexander Sulzer. Andrew Alberts will be a healthy scratch.
"In our defensive possibilities that we have right now, all those guys, Alex Sulzer, Andrew Alberts and Keith Ballard, they are sort of fighting for that same ice time," Vigneault said. "A lot of time, it depends on how they play, but it also depends on the opposition.
"In Keith Ballard's case, he is probably playing his best hockey since he has been with us. That being said, sometimes like in St. Louis, it depends on the opposition, it depends what we are looking for in terms of match-ups. Tonight we feel Keith coming in will give us the right element and that is why he is playing."
Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau knows tonight's game will be a test for his team. Anaheim's run of late has come against teams currently below the playoff bar. Tonight they move up in class to face a Vancouver team that leads the Western Conference.
"This is the best team out of the lot that we have faced," Boudreau said after his team's skate this morning. "If you want to measure yourself against a really good team this would be the team to measure yourself against. . .When we played Vancouver (on Dec. 29) they toyed with us. So it will be interesting to see if we can play a little bit better in their building."
The Ducks will start Jonas Hiller in goal. The Canucks are going with Roberto Luongo, who enters tonight's game with a shutout streak of 94:32 at Rogers Arena.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Ducks: Anaheim's all-Finnish second line consists of Teemu Selanne, Saku Koivu and Niklas Hagman. The 41-year-old Selanne leads the Ducks with 43 points.
Canucks: Winger Daniel Sedin has a 12-game points streak against the Ducks and scored the overtime winner for the Canucks in St. Louis on Thursday night.
INJURIES
The Ducks are missing forward Devante Smith-Pelly (fractured foot) and goalie Dan Ellis (groin)
The Canucks are without forwards Andrew Ebbett (collarbone) and Aaron Volpatti (shoulder) and defenceman Sami Salo (concussion).
ICE CHIPS: With Booth back, the Canucks returned winger Mike Duco to the Chicago Wolves this morning. . .The Canucks have scored first in 10 straight games. . .The Ducks and Canucks have split their first two meetings this season at the Honda Center in Anaheim. The Ducks won 4-3 on Nov. 11 and Vancouver won 5-2 on Dec. 29.

some years they appear they want to rebuild, and some years they try for that last minute cup run when they have nothing.
like when they acquired tanguay and jokinen, they were playing pretty bad. they finally managed to dump jokinen, but ended up paying full price for the garbage they got rid of :lol
although bourque isnt panning out and projected so far, if they plan on building for the future, they gotta keep some more young guys.
idk, maybe i'm just looking at this from a weird perspective...
They have never been in rebuild mode in the last few years, even though many Calgary fans have hoped they would. But even now, they are still trying to make the playoffs, so they're stuck in mediocrity of always just missing the playoffs and not getting any good draft picks.

mmmmm, I like Parros, but he's pretty useless other than fighting. Rather the Nucks try and get a Chris Neil, Shawn Thornton type, but those guys are hard to find.
Since my Sabres are crapping the bed hard this year, Gaustad I think would be one guy the Nucks should look hard at that might be available. Can fight, great leader/locker room guy, very good defensively, chip in the odd goal and can play regular 3rd/4th line minutes effectively.

Great post by passittobulis:
- There were four Canucks without a shot tonight:
Manny Malhotra, Dale Weise, Alex Sulzer, and Ryan
Kesler. One of these things is not like the other. (No,
I’m not referring to Manny Malhotra.) Ryan Kesler
normally has more than zero shots. Kesler looked
downright off on Sunday, struggling to gain speed
through the neutral zone and stopping up on rushes
in which he normally goes full speed ahead. What
was his deal? At the game’s end, he was seen
removing a knee brace. Kesler’s missed a few
practices lately with a mystery ailment, and I think
we just figured out what it is: allergy to whatever
fabric is in that knee brace.
- But seriously, if Kesler’s hurting, he should be sitting.
The Canucks need him in April, not January, and they
have four perfectly capable centres without him,
especially since the Cody Hodgson we’re seeing now
is a far cry from the one that started the season.

Canucks' Ballard tested in bench role
By Jason Botchford, The ProvinceJanuary 14, 2012
Keith Ballard gets up from underneath Alexander Sulzer during Vancouver Canucks practice at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, B.C., Dec. 27, 2011. Ballard is behind Sulzer on the Canucks' depth chart.
Photograph by: Arlen Redekop, PNGKeith Ballard can never quite catch a break.
He was benched in St. Louis Thursday, in a game the Canucks defence surrendered the puck so frequently, it would have been easy for him to look good. Even on a bad day. Compounding it, Alex Sulzer, the surprise
starter, blocked a shot with his jaw and kept on playing. In the post-game analysis, head coach Alain Vigneault gave Sulzer a little love, underscoring the harsh reality which faces Ballard.
As a Canuck, he has never played better than he has since November.
That's by Ballard's account, and his coach's.
In 17 games, he was a plus-5 with five points. He has consciously dimmed some of the "flash" in his game, trying to provide Vigneault with what he wanted. That's less puck carrying, fewer risks and more dull. Think
of a swashbuckler without the swash and without the buckling.
But after Sami Salo suffered a concussion on that low-bridge Brad Marchand cheap shot, surprisingly - or not - Ballard was benched, passed yet again on the depth chart. He's expected to be a healthy scratch again Sunday against Anaheim. Whatever changes he's made to tailor his game to be the reliable third-pairing blueliner, it's not been enough.
"I was disappointed for sure," Ballard said. "I think I've been playing well since the middle of November. It's been my most consistent hockey since I've been here.
"I've done a lot of work mentally from last year to this year. Maybe last year at this time, I would have been doubting myself a little bit or wondering what's going on or trying to change my game or change something about my game.
"But that's not the case. That's not how I feel right now, and that's not what I'm going to do. I am mentally a 100 times stronger than I felt last year."
In revealing last year was far more difficult than he ever let on, Ballard is saying he's picked up some coping mechanisms along the way.
"After going through it, I've put in a lot of work in how to deal with adversity, and how to prepare myself better," Ballard said. "I've learned how to reflect on a game, whether it's mid-game, or mid-shift. A lot of guys think if they make two great plays they had a great game.
But that's two shifts out of 20 that you did something. What did you do the other 18?"
This time Ballard's adversity is sitting for Sulzer, and dealing with rumours the Canucks could look to trade him because he's expensive and unlikely to play much in Vancouver's top four, even if there are a series of injuries.
Sulzer is something of a journeyman who signed a two-way deal with Vancouver in the off-season because the Canucks were the only team which strongly suggested he'd have a decent chance of making the team out of
training camp.
Sulzer isn't just a fun name to say. He has a good story. He's the son of a former German Elite League player, and he's played for Germany twice at the Olympics, including in 2010. He remembers being matched up against the line of Jarome Iginila, Sidney Crosby and Eric Staal in the quarterfinal playoff game. Canada won 8-2 and Sulzer was a minus-4. It still irks him.
"I wasn't happy at all about it and I'm still not," Sulzer said.
He has some fire. Still, Sulzer's favourite line, is interesting.
"I've heard him say this quite a few times to coaches and teammates, 'Any day in the NHL is a good day,'" Vigneault said. "I think he's embracing the fact he is in the best league and when he gets an opportunity to play, he's come in and done a good job for us."
Sulzer is just happy to be here, content to be a depth guy who plays occasionally. In that spot, he's been just fine. But the expectations for Ballard were much higher than competing with Sulzer for playing time.
"At the beginning of the year, I was up and down," Ballard said. "There were games when I was skating 100 mph and making plays and then there were games where I'd have three turnovers, and I was a minus-2. It was
too much like that.
"Since mid-November, I've taken it back at both ends. There's less risk in my game. You see less flash. You see less of me trying to skate through guys and trying to do all that. I've simplified things a lot.
"In the role I'm in, that style probably best suits where I am on this team."
But that reigned-in "flash" is the reason he's making $4.2 million and a reason the Canucks went out and made the trade for him in the first place. Watching him skate, especially on one of his end-to-end rushes,
you can still see why the Canucks thought he'd be a nice fit for their up-tempo attack. Even if those rushes, never seem to go anywhere.
"But with that way of playing comes maybe a mistake or two, that I don't know if I have the leeway to make, you know?" Ballard said.
"It's not my concern to worry about whether that (lack of leeway) is fair. All that will do for me is lead to negative things and it will affect my play. I don't bother with that."
Has he lost the confidence of the coaching staff?
"It doesn't matter to me," he said. "I know the things I have to do to be successful.
"A lot of guys on this team could go to another team and play a bigger role. But if you want to be part of a successful, winning team, you have accept what you're given and do the best with it.
"For me, that's what I'd rather do. I'd rather be on a successful team than play more."

I hope it sparks Kesler to step up and tell management he needs time off till his leg is healed up. He's been pretty ineffective and i'm sure Hodgson is capable of stepping up and playing the 2nd line centre role for the time being. We need Kes for April till possibly June..not for January.
IMO, I haven't been impressed by Sulzers play. He coughs up the puck just as much as Ballard, if not more, and he's definitely not as physical.

AV is right about Kesler, all Kes has been doing almost all season is breaking down the wing and taking a shot that misses the net, the shot that worked last year is not this year, he needs to pull up and dish the puck or somthing, a centerman shouldnt be just turning over the puck every time they gain the zone
Also sometimes i think Bieksa is more concerned with "looking cool" than effective play, his non-chelant ness with the puck is not the way to play all the time, especially when your lacking confidence

Freak injury to Taylor Hall. Skate cut near eye
Taylor Hall is cut in the face by a skate in the warm up. - YouTube
I hope the 'Nucks do well tonight. There's been some shit flinging going on with Kesler and AV. Probably media driven..........
Happy locker room is so critical. That's why I hope MG doesn't bring in anybody that will upset the chemistry of the team.

We're there for you, buddy. Hopefully, I won't have to post to many "Damn......."
I have this feeling the Canucks are going to come out like bats out of hell.

Bieksa has to watch his pinches, and Ballard has to simply get it out of the zone

Wonder how will Kes respond?
Mark Donnelly has to work on the ending of O' Canada. At last year's playoffs, he did an octave jump and it sounded good, but hasn't done it since. Perhaps he hurt himself doing it.
Anyway, the energy is there for the Canucks, but LA is matching that energy.

^i think ive said it b4 but Edler doesnt play that well when he doesnt have a reliable defencemen to back him. Like last year in Ehrhoff and this year with Salo
Anyone care to explain the Kesler/AV thing??
AV (apparently) told press that Kesler had to make use of his players more, so he could get himself in the open.
Kesler was told about this and he bascally said, I don't know what he means by that, but I'm going to play the way that made me successful. Something like that. Then he added, if AV wants to talk to me about it, he's more than welcome to see me.
I really think this is a media BS thing. Sometimes the media causes so many problems. Who's side are these fokkers on? Go mind fuck some other team, like our opponents, dickwads.

Ye, he plays a solid game without alot of flash so you don't notice him until he's out. Makes the PP better also with his booming laser.

nucks better wake up next period =/
What a dumb comment by AV, everyone knows Kesler is a terrible set up man, I've been saying it before, Kes should be on the wing receiving passes on the fly and just powering through.
