Canucks seem to be on vacation mode on the PP whenever the puck gets dumped.
Had no hustle trying to bring it back in the offensive zone.

Nice! Canucks in control now. :awwyeah:
It's good that NYR lost, but it shows just how dangerous the Pens are..I hope they get taken out early.

Based on the last game, it won't be a walk in the park for the Pens come saturday and that will continue all the way to the end of the series against the Flyers. Even if they win, the Pens will be quite bruised and battered.

If you're excluding pre-season then I'd say Peter Schaefer.
Last game of the year for the two Johns.
Hoping to get Jim on CBC more often than not.

I'm not trying to hate, but how can I have confidence on the Canucks and their coach when they play like this.
I'm talking about that second goal. Hank loses the puck and he makes no effort to turn around. Instead, he does what he usually does and that is reach out with the stick and try to hook the other player.
If that was Hodgson, he'd be riding the pine for that effort but since it is Hank, he can turn a blind eye.
Hank and Daniel both have this tendency where they stop skating and try to use their sticks to hook the player going by.
Same thing on the Bieska slip up and letting his man go to the net who ends up being Camalleri and scoring the Flames first goal.
If that was Ballard, he'd be riding the pine too.

It's not just that too. But I'm a lot pissed because the Canucks had a chance of walking into the Play Off Arena with some huge swagger against everyone.
But tonight not only did they show that the Canucks can bleed, but they also showed that non-competitors can take them down.
Or maybe it just hit an emotional spot with me because I saw a lot of last year's SCF in tonight's game. You have your destiny & greatness in your fingertips, and then they start coasting to the finish line. :rukidding:
UGH! They fucking had it. The stars were aligned on their favour.

....It's been like that all year.
Carolina, Calgary, Columbus, Anaheim, Buffalo, Edmonton, Minnesota, Dallas, Montreal, all considered bottom-feeders/in your case non-competitors have all taken down the Canucks.
I don't see why you're getting upset over this loss/potential loss over the PRESIDENTS TROPHY which isn't important unless the Canucks face the Rangers...

I think I'm getting overly emotionally invested much earlier this year. Like I said a couple of weeks ago. This moment (next playoffs) I've been waiting for for a year.

This was the Canucks' game to lose, and they did. Going to be tough to win the Presidents trophy now and we definitely want to win the conference because I sure as hell would like to avoid playing the Blues in their own barn. 30-5-5 compared to 18-16-6 on the road. :fuckthatshit:
I'm just glad Schneider was in net so it couldn't be blamed on Lu like it would have been.
My opinion? They don't care. They busted their balls for the trophy last year, and what good did it do? That's probably what they're thinking.

Agreed. They should only be concerned about the Blues getting 1st in the West, not some stupid trophy that isn't the Holy Grail.
Let the Rangers have the presidents trophy. I could care less.
I'm just glad Schneider was in net so it couldn't be blamed on Lu like it would have been.
C'mon. Give the Canucknation some credit. Yes there was a round of cheers during the initial pull, but that's as was discussed, that's not really cheering for Lu's misfortune than it is cheering to rally a lacklustre team and a cold goalie.
To support that statement, there was absolutely no fan or media frenzy about Luongo's pull, or performance post-game was there?
My opinion? They don't care. They busted their balls for the trophy last year, and what good did it do? That's probably what they're thinking.
This is a bad cancerous attitude. They're professionals.
They should never EVER play like they don't care
They should never EVER play like they have nothing to win
They should never EVER play like they have no one counting on them (the team, the fans)
I mean c'mon. Even bottom feeders and teams out of contentions spots are still professionally expected to still play the remainder of their seasons as if they still care; because it's not even just about the "paying" fans, it's also about "personal pride."
This should be moreso evident against teams that DO have something to win, especially an organization that have done so much, yet still has so much to prove.
The fact that team is starting to coast is such a bad sign. I don't know if they're coasting because like you say... they could care less about the President's Trophy... or maybe they're coasting because there's only 2 games left against CGY & EDM and they've been on a win streak. Or maybe they're coasting because after leading after 2 periods, they think they have the game in the bag. I mean c'mon that's the worst 3rd period in a long time.
At the end of the day, I would like to see "coasting" habit/attitude snapped out of their system (and even better, before the playoffs).

I guess the point is the Canucks tend to take their foot off the gas peddle, and fucking blow it. Being up three games against the hawks and end up nearly blowing it..being up against the bruins two games and blowing it..they also had a chance to end the preds in five, but instead they had to endure a long travel back to nashville. Losing to all these bottom feeding teams all season has been brutal to watch. People say Luongo is mentally weak, but I think the whole team is.

People don't seem to be aware of how true this is, and how scary it is. The Canucks have been built around PP success. Most of their success the last few years have been because of 2 things: 1) Great goaltending, 2) Powerplay
Now with one of those two things missing, they look quite mediocre (although with one of those two things still there, they still have a good record amazingly)
I know people like to have 'faith' that they are going to win, because they can't accept anything negative about the team. But unless they can turn their PP around, I don't see how they are going to make it out of round 2.

PP failed us when it mattered most. Seems to me they're concentrating more on being prepared defensively, hence all the one goal games. Losing Ehrhoff hurt our PP and thats a fact.
As for the faith, I dont have the same "feeling" as I did about our chances last year, but you have to admit we have more depth. Added to the fact that Cory has proven himself in some big games vs tough opponents, we know our goaltending will be solid should Lu struggle at some point. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall many maintenance games last year either. I also have a sneaky feeling that Daniel is more ready than the organization will admit.
The Canucks took last year as a learning experience and are seemingly more prepared for the grind. Like I said, I'm not as confident as I was last year but we're still a very strong contender and I very much like our chances.

that pretty much sums up my feelings exactly. if the last 10 games or so have been an indication of anything, the canucks are trying to win without relying so heavily on the powerplay. hopefully the 7 game win streak they had put together is a sign of good things to come in the playoffs. if not, i won't be surprised if they don't make the cup final. it would suck total ass, but it wouldn't be a surprise unfortunately :(

I believe the PP turns it around in the playoffs. Losing Ehrhoff hurts, but the PP was head and shoulders above everybody else for the first half of this season even without Ehrhoff.
IMO we (I'm going to include the fans and the team) had perhaps too much swagger and cockiness going into the playoffs last year, could be a reason why the team and fans were perceived by many to be most hated on in the league. Although we made it all the way to the finals, many felt that there was no way we wouldn't make it, and when we lost game 7 it was a huge let down because we couldn't live up to the hype.
This season, there is not the same level of cockiness. The fans are too emotionally invested from last year's run as well as this year's regular season and what we saw last year as fan arrogance is now this year fan concern. But I believe all is well in the room. The brass has done well to build the team to better endure the prospect of a long run. The team is playing less flashy and more close games that you typically see when games matter. But ultimately I believe they all know once the playoffs start, its anybody's game. Doesn't matter if you just squeak into the playoff or won the President's trophy by 10pts. You take it a game and a series at a time and with some puck luck, you get to hoist the ultimate prize.

I know everyone would love to see the blues lose tonight, but man if they beat the yotes, it would sure set up a very very interesting last night of hockey. Assuming they beat the yotes in regulation anyways. Chi-Det kicks it off a battle for the #5 seed, then blues and nucks duke it out for the #1 seed, too bad they are not actually playing each other, that woulda been quite interesting. Then to end the night off we would have SJ-LA for the division title. I beleive washington/florida can also flip flop for the divisionbut fuck the east lol.

Why was Tort so mad? Anyone update me pls
Nvm, just saw the Orpik hit
Tortorella gives some of the best post game interviews and rants ever. Thumbs up to John for his scathing comments on the Penguins.
-lost a great deal of respect for Crosby, their coach, and the Penguins organization after all the whining, crosschecking on Flyers players, and the cheap, dirty knee on knee hit by Orpik on Stepan. Stop whining Sid!
Smart move by Bylsma to send his goon line, a line that didn't play for twelve minutes, when his team was losing 6-3 to Philly last week. Real smart Bylsma!
Shanahan, I hope you throw the book at Orpik and give him a big suspension that includes playoff games.
Tortorella is correct. He's spot on about the state of the league. What happened to RESPECT among NHL players? We see headshots, blind side hits, knee on knee hits.
Players can play football with the hard foam padding that they wear these days.
Here's Tort's post game rant. One of the best ever.

Yeah I don't get that either. I mean there's 4 of them, and it's not like the incident in question occurred away from the play; it was THE play.
Posted on twitter, they said only the 2 refs can call that play and both missed it. The linesmen cannot blow the play down even if they saw it.

This has probably been posted already, but who has the tie breaker between the Canucks and the Rangers?
Rangers have like 5 or 6 more ROW's than us. We have to beat them by at least a single point in order to get the PT.

I know eh...
I think I'm getting overly emotionally invested much earlier this year. Like I said a couple of weeks ago. This moment (next playoffs) I've been waiting for for a year.
I know I'm just a fan, but it's felt like an unfinished business of mine that's been hanging all year long.
Feel the same as you guys.
I am sure now that MAG is locked in as a RFA, we'll have a better look at our true D line up. Need to work on the PP for sure. Still miss Hodgy for secondary scoring.

The drop pass has nothing to do with converting on PP's. It's just to get in the offensive zone.
It's just getting shots on the net and scoring on the PP that is concerning, not how to enter the other teams end.

Detroit plays Chicago tomorrow. Nashville plays Colorado.
If Detroit beats Chicago and Nashville loses, Detroit will move into 4th and Preds will move into 5th, which would be huge for Detroit, considering how good they have been at home and how bad they have been on the road.
However, if Chicago beats Detroit in regulation, Chicago would hold the tie-breaker and that would put Chicago in 5th and Detroit in 6th.

My thoughts exactly. The way the Canucks have been scoring, I do NOT want them to have to deal with Smith or Quick
The last few seasons I would have been scared of the Sharks, but this year :fuckthatshit:
Scariest teams in the west for me:
1) Chicago (almost always have vancouver's number, and a mental edge against Lu)
2) St. Louis with home advantage (killer home record)
3) Detroit (its Detroit!)
4) St. Louis without home advantage (still a scary team)
5) Phoenix (hot goaltending + grit + scoring ability lately)
6) LA (amazing goaltending)
7) Nashville (Canucks seem to have the answer for them somehow)
8) San Jose (:fuckthatshit: )

Datsyuk may have missed but his way more orthodox; Had Datsyuk scored, THAT would've looked sick, but Kane's was slow and almost seemed like it had nothing to do with "tricking" the goalie, if you will; Howard just missed what should have been an easy safe IMO.

It was a good play by the Sens until two of them in the corner tripped over each other and Alfredsson made a really bad pinch when he should've been covering for whoever the D-man was that went down low. It was a bad play by the Sens but good heads up vision by the Devils to break out that fast, recognizing that Alfredsson made a bad decision.
The Canucks do this shit ALL THE TIME with Burr/Kes and Higgins or Malhotra/Hansen especially where they dig the puck out and hold it in the opposition's zone during the PK but our D is always way back. They recognized that this is a "hold the other team in their own zone for as long as possible during the PK" rather than trying to hold it in for a scoring chance, which is the only reason I can think of that Alfie would be down there.

Phoenix up 2-0 right now.... looks like they gonna take the pacific... which leaves the last game of the regular season sharks vs kings to sorta choose their 1st round match up...
Not that there's much to choose from... Nucks or St Louis.... I wonder who wants to play who....

For reasons stated earlier in this thread, we would much rather play San Jose than LA; I'm not worried about our goaltending/defence as much as I am worried about our recent struggles with putting the puck in the back of an opponents net. San Jose has both weak goaltending and defense, whereas LA has one of the best goalies in the league in Jonathan Quick.

Stamkos has 20 minutes left to get his 60th.
Ah ha... Tortellini.
Classless cunt. Sidney Crosby is right. Keep it on the ice. You can flap your loose vagina lips all you want, but what happens on the ice is what matters.
I hope we meet the cunt in the SCF and we take the cup - payback for 94.

Tortellini is right too though; Sidney Crosby is babied in the NHL.

Anyone else watch Hotstove? I fucking hate Ron Mclean. Stirring shit up for no reason. They were on the topic of coaches being let go in the off season and Freidman said, depending on how teams do in the playoffs, anywhere from 4-8 coach positions could be filled in the off season. Then Mclean says, he'd love to see AV get a crack in Montreal again. Even if the Canucks were to lose in the first round, AV would not get fired.

I was actually thinking in regards to San Jose or LA's mindset... assuming we can get at least a point tonight to finish first.... if I were LA or San Jose, I wonder who I'd prefer... facing Vancouver or St Louis....
