There's no point to your questions when you're just simply asking us to compare "X" team vs Canucks.
Are you going to ask about RedWings vs Canucks next?

The Hype

IMO the only thing that matters is when a team makes the playoffs and can perform. The argument that the Leafs have cups from 100 years ago and are better than the Canucks is irrelevant because Toronto never makes the playoffs

http://philosophistry.com/scans/2010/lol-face.jpg

Making the playoffs and performing means winning the Stanley Cup. Had the Leafs won the Cup in the modern NHL, I'd say they were a better franchise than the Canucks, but in their case, no. Franchises that have won can talk as much trash as they like, because they've done something the Canucks have never done.

as sour as we all are that boston won, i give them all the props for out playing us. it's really as simple as that. when it came down to it, they straight up out performed half our roster.

totally man i got owned so bad
maybe if i gave a fuck i would wikipedia some facts and reply too
too bad i don't
i asked this question because chicago and canucks met in the playoffs plenty of times
canucks winning the most recent by fluke
am i not allowed to ask questions now or something?

:speechless:okay, you first say the leafs have at least done some winning and that's all that counts... so the canucks beat the hawks... by your previous logic, what does fluke or not have anything to do with it? plus i don't kno what fluke you're talking about... i clearly saw burrows slap it past crawford in OT... canucks won that series, period.
Also, since you like to say at least they've won the cup, the islanders also had a dynasty run during the early 80s (which is still more recent than any leafs cup run). Is anybody gonna argue if ppl say the islanders suck? of course not! obviously when ppl say leafs suck it means the currently... digging up the glory days of yesteryear for an arguement like this is like saying, "my dad was somebody famous and successful..." it has nothing to do with you... i could be wrong on this bcuz there is always the sense of pride from a winning past :woot2:

A bit off topic from the Canucks but looks like the Devils could be another failing franchise that the NHL might have to worry about in the very near future...

The New Jersey Devils training camp doesn’t open until tomorrow but already the three-time NHL champs are skating on thin ice, The Post has learned.

The attendance-challenged, heavily indebted team missed its Sept. 1 loan payment, giving its lenders a breakaway chance to push the team into bankruptcy, a source with direct knowledge of the situation said.

“The Devils are blowing up,” the source said.

The team’s financial hardships could also affect Newark’s four-year-old Prudential Center, the Devils’ home arena. Team-owned Devils Arena Entertainment operates the $375 million building and guarantees the Devils’ loans and, therefore, is in danger of also going bankrupt.

Two issues are complicating matters. First, principal owner Jeff Vanderbeek and co-owner Ray Chambers, each of whom owns 47 percent of the franchise, are on the outs. Chambers, through his Brick City Hockey unit, has been trying to sell his non-controlling stake in the franchise for a year.

But the efforts of Chambers and Moag & Co., a Baltimore investment bank, have been unsuccessful, despite, a source said, cutting their asking price 20 percent to $200 million. Forbes last year estimated the Devils were worth $218 million, No. 11 in the league, down 2 percent from 2010. The team is ranked No. 25 in attendance.

Second, Vanderbeek’s relationship with the lenders is as frosty as the rink surface at The Rock, as the arena is known.

The Devils have told their banks to get lost, the source said.

“You have a bank group that wants nothing to do with Vanderbeek,” said a source, who added they have been upset with how late they have been with financial information.

Some lenders are already considering selling their stakes to vulture investors, the source said.

“This is going to be a very difficult situation.”

If the Devils, who along with the arena operation company, owe 15 percent more than the team is worth, according to Forbes, are declared bankrupt -- and one source speculates that has already happened -- lenders cannot repossess the team and force a sale for at least 180 days.

The Devils’ past-due loan payment of roughly $100 million is owed to a CIT-led lending group. Devils Arena Entertainment owes $180 million, the source said.

The financial forecast at The Rock is also stormy. While it is expected to post its first profit this year, the arena is facing a potential loss of revenue from the NBA lockout. The New Jersey Nets, who are scheduled to play their second and last season in Newark beginning next month, could be forced to cancel many games.

Collecting proceeds from Nets games is what makes Devils Arena Entertainment profitable, and the NBA lockout could result in The Rock losing 25 percent of its 161 dates, according to a recent Bloomberg News article.

The Nets will face no financial penalty if the lockout forces them to cancel games. “So the facility is at risk,” Richard Krezwick, the GM of the arena, told Bloomberg.

A Devils spokesman did not return calls.

Interesting. If they ever overcome this, their hockey team--future wise is even more screwed for the future. They can't expect Brodeur to play till he's 50, and the Devils have no significant goalie prospects either.

currently the league has a surplus of very good goalies, not elite, but there are a lot of good young ones around who are stuck behind others. bernier, rask, schnieder etc. its not like they dont have prospects/players to acquire it. financially they are screwed though, lol.

Yesterday Bmac came on and said Pratt and the station had parted ways for good and te afternoon show is now bmac and Taylor

I like bmac, the problem I have with releasing Pratt is that bmac runs his show just like the morning and midday show, they are all basically just reporters and by the time the afternoon show rolls around you've already heard all the stories already, Pratt at least brought a hard opinion to things, had stances on subjects other than sports, and wasn't afraid to stir things up, I have a feeling the afternoon show will take quite a while to get back to the level it was at

Posted via RS Mobile (http://www.revscene.net/forums/announcement.php?a=228)

SCENE & HEARD: It was near the end of the business day Thursday when an internal office memo hit the bulletin board and email circuit at Team 1040. Signed by James Stuart, vice-president and general manager of CHUM Radio Vancouver, it essentially informed the staff that David Pratt would not be returning to the station's airwaves.

It had been noted in this space last week that Pratt's contract had expired Aug. 31 and negotiations had reached an impasse with Team 1040 and Pratt's lawyer/agent Ron Perrick. Pratt anchored the station's highest-ranked sports talk segment with co-host Don Taylor during the prime-time afternoon slot for the past 10 years. It drew huge listening audiences and Pratt basked in the role of the bad guy with outlandish opinions and controversial rants.

Noting that he had always enjoyed amicable dealings with Team 1040 in the past, Perrick now adds: "Until the last week." He says the station's final offer was "unacceptable."

Stuart refuses to get into a hissing contest. In a prepared statement emailed to inquiring media, Stuart wrote: "I have no comment on the details of what happened, as that remains a confidential matter between the station and Dave. At this moment, our strategy to replace Dave and any subsequent change around the afternoon shift are being finalized and will be announced soon."

well for months he'd occasionally mention Bob Mcgowen's new contract as the "benchmark" for his own, clearly he doesnt have the power or influence that mcgowen has but he obviously anchored the highest rated show on the network

also i doubt all the personalities are paid even close to what pratt makes, he's probably by far the leader with Taylor coming up behind, then people like Bmac, rintoole, price i would think are around the 100k mark if that

The Moj has some pretty awesome comebacks for callers

regardless, Pratt needs to come to his senses, McCown, being based out east reaches a much larger audience anyways. unless Pratt changes scenery and grind it out, hes not gonna get his asking price.

read this at work. it was really sad to read during my break

LANDSBERG: HIS DEPRESSION AND HIS FRIEND, WADE BELAK

E-mail, texting and instant messaging all have places in our lives. But I believe I have relied too much on them, often replacing personal contact with letters and words and symbols that are like the Buckingham Palace Grenadier Guards - conveying no emotion, revealing no subtlety. They are zombies devoid of anything meaningful outside of the obvious.

How many times have you wondered while reading a text whether someone was serious or joking, sarcastic or straight? Have you ever wondered when you ask someone how they are, whether fine really means fine?

Fine written in text always looks the same, but in person, on the phone, fine can reveal so much more. I am having a tough time forgiving myself for texting Wade Belak seven days before he died and accepting his fine.

Wade was my buddy. That didn't make me unique. Wade was everyone's buddy. Even guys he fought with on the ice liked him. Even guys he scored on liked him, even if that list is pretty short. He was the definition of the big fat jolly guy without the fat. Honestly, I don't know a soul who met Wade who didn't immediately like him. He made friends the way most people pick up germs -- gathering more every time he touched someone.

I knew Wade walked with a limp. I knew it because he spoke to me about it. I have the same limp. It's how I refer to depression that doesn't disable us – even though we feel it every step of our lives.

Wade's limp, however, was worse than I knew. Seven days before he died, we chatted on e-mail. He had heard an interview I did for TSN Radio about my own depression and he had written, It was good.

I wrote back jokingly, Did you feel sorry for me, that's what I was looking for.

He responded, I thought you were a big pussy. Ha ha. Who am I to say? I've been on happy pills for 4-5 years now.

I wrote back, And how are you?

And Wade wrote back, Fine.

Fine. Ugh.

Fine. It's four letters, one word. One simple word. No means no we're told, but fine doesn't always mean fine. He wasn't fine. Seven days later he was gone.

I'm looking at my hands. I don't see any blood, but it's there. Luminol won't show it, but my conscience does.

Out, damned spot; Out I say. It's not that easy.

A Common Bond

Wade came into my life eight years ago when he first appeared on Off the Record. He and I together looked like a photo from World War II. Wade, with his huge size, chiseled features, pale skin and blond hair. And me - eight inches shorter, a million shades darker and with a large, slightly hooked nose. Well, you get the picture.

Despite our many differences, we bonded right away, a friendship based on a mutual ability to make the other laugh. Men show contempt with insults and affection with harsher insults. Wade and I had a no limit, no safe area, no boundaries and never hurt feelings. I loved him for that. And I know he felt the same way.

I'm not sure why Wade confided in me about his depression. I assume it was because I have spoken publicly about mine. Or perhaps, in the code of us depression sufferers, I was a veteran depressive and he was a rookie.

Whatever the reason or reasons, I felt blessed that he shared with me. Sharing something personal with another person is one of the greatest compliments you can give them. It says, I trust you and I feel safe with you. It also says, I know you won't judge me. Can you truly call someone a friend if you're afraid they may see you as weak?

This all made me like Wade so much more. I think we end up liking people because of their good traits. Sometimes we end up loving them because of their flaws.

I felt that I knew Wade in a different way than almost anyone else. I knew that his perma-smile was at least partially manufactured. I knew that his constant cheeriness was at least partially faked. It felt good to know this because I too, have done the same things. In that way Wade was the guy I related to perhaps better than anyone in my life. We were both good at fooling people. Like most depression sufferers we are counterfeiters in human emotion. We create fake happiness and for that reason sometimes people can't spot what's truly happening inside.

Obviously.

Tragically.

When I close my eyes and think of Wade the only memories I have are of him smiling. I can't remember anything else. Even knowing that he wasn't always smiling inwardly, doesn't change how I see him.

I see him now smiling in my hallway with his daughter Andie on his shoulders. Together they seemed to be 15 feet tall. Wade was one of those dads who couldn't put his kids down. He was always embracing them as if telling them he loved them wasn't enough.

I see him smiling and crying having eaten Armageddon chicken wings. I think I called him a big suck.

I see him smiling after my son had whipped him in NHL ‘11 (Not even Wade picked Wade).

I see his huge smile after we won a summer roller hockey championship with him in goal. He took it incredibly seriously. Who takes a pre-game nap for roller hockey?

And I see him smiling -- the last time I saw him at our kitchen table eating more pancakes than all of us combined.

When Wade and I were texting on August 24th, he inquired about the documentary I am working on, which is about celebrities with depression. He said, Are you gonna put me on?

I asked, Would you consider sharing your illness with the public. His exact words were, I don't think I would have a problem going public with it.

He added, I don't even think my parents really know.

Wade had no idea just how public he would go with his depression.

Trying to Understand

We don't know what happened to Wade a week later that saw his flame go from brilliant to extinguished in just a few hours, but we know why people usually take their own lives. People kill themselves when the fear of living another moment outweighs the fear of dying at that moment. With Wade, I believe he was struck by a tsunami of depression. In an instant he somehow went from calm to calamitous. Love for family and for life no longer made sense. Instantly one and one was no longer two.

I know what you've wondered. And don't feel bad, we've all asked the question. You're thinking it right now. Well, I will ask it for you; how does any parent choose to leave his kids? How does a guy share with me the joy of hearing his five-year old at violin lessons, and then eight days later plug his ears forever?

I don't know the answer, but I do know this; I pray that you and I won't ever figure it out. Some things you don't want to know. And some things you can't ever judge.

You don't think you know what Sept. 11 felt like on American Airlines flight 175 as it roared towards the World Trade Center, do you? So can you really say what you would have done?

You don't know what it was like to be marched to your death in Auschwitz, so can you really say what you would have done?

And you don't know what my buddy Wade Belak was thinking when it made sense to him to leave all that he loved. So can you really say what you would have done?

I sure as hell don't know, but I know this; when you're severely depressed, logic can become fallacy and fallacy can become reality.

If you know me, you know that I am a confident person. I can hear you thinking, No, he's arrogant. Fine, think what you want, but when I've been depressed that confidence is replaced by insecurity. When I've been depressed, ‘me' no longer exists. I am replaced by my own Slim Shady, and he's a guy I don't know or particularly like. He hosted 60 shows in 2008. He sucked.

So if as you read this, you're thinking, I have no idea what any of that feels like, then you're blessed. Have you ever thought, man, am I lucky not to be mentally ill? Likely not, because we seldom celebrate our normality. I'm the same. I don't celebrate having two arms and two legs but an amputee would suggest I should.

But in your mental health arrogance do not ever think for a second you can understand why Wade made the choice he did. I can't understand it, but I know this; Wade loved life as much as anyone I have ever met. His love for his wife Jen and their girls, Andie and Alex, was every bit as strong as anything any of us have ever felt. So, if depression could make him give that up - how bad must it be? And would you or I be any different?

The damn tsunami washed away all the joy and replaced it with something else. The devoted father and husband and friend who had everything to live for drowned in a sea of sadness.

Vincent Van Gogh, the genius Dutch painter whose sophisticated works changed art forever, had these simple last words explaining why he took his own life; the sadness will last forever. In general, Wade didn't believe that. But somehow, for some reason, for one moment he did.

At that horrible moment Wade, we can assume, had two rival instincts battling inside him. On one side was the survival instinct. On the other was the instinct to end his suffering. We've all felt the first; many fewer have felt the second. In Wade's case its clear which side won. Think of it this way. Suicide is what happens when the angel of death and the angel of mercy start working together.

Has Wade gone to a better place? Who knows? You may believe in the afterlife, but you don't know it exists. No one knows. But my guess is that Wade wasn't betting on heading to a better place. He just knew at that one moment there is no worse place than where he was.

Depression is not a Demon

I don't expect you to understand why Wade made the choice he made. It's tough for me to understand. But I do expect you to accept the seriousness of his disease. If you were saddened by Wade's death then here's what you owe him; you owe him the belief in his pain.

We can't see depression. We cant biopsy it. Blood tests don't show it. Neither do x-rays. Believing in depression takes faith, and surveys show that more than half of us are depressive atheists still believing somehow that depression is not a disease, but a sign of weakness. Wade wasn't weak. Neither was Churchill or Lincoln or Hemingway or your cousin or your neighbor or your son.

Depression is a disease. It's not an issue or a demon, although it may act like one. And if you want to honor Wade's memory, do it this way; never ever tell someone to snap out of it. And never ask anyone, what do you have to be depressed about? Start accepting depression as a serious and sometimes fatal illness.

Waiting for the R

My last message still sits on his smart phone and mine. After hearing a crazy rumor that my boy Wade had died, I called his cell immediately, assuming I would hear his voice and I would greet him with, So I guess this means you're not dead!

But I got no answer. My heart fell as I heard his voice mail, This is Wade -- leave a message. I didn't. What would I say? Please don't be dead? Please call me and I will come there and help you through anything.

One more hope - I texted him these words and waited.

Are you OK?

The D appeared right away. My heart began to race waiting for the R. If you don't speak the language of messenger, the D appears when the message is delivered. The R appears when the person has read it or seen it. Most of us use that to decide whether we are being ignored. But, on this day the stakes were far different. I knew that D meant death and R meant life.

Please change. Please change, I prayed. I waited. And I'm still waiting in disbelief. It never changed. The D sits there for eternity, ironically speaking volumes to me. Ironic because I began by saying text usually fails to communicate true meaning. In this case it says everything I feel.

The D sits there, a solitary symbol to me of one of the great tragedies I have felt.

D for depression.

D for the death it brought.

And D for Dear Wade, I hope now you really are fine.

Out damn spot, out I say. Not yet I fear. Maybe not ever.

Todd Bertuzzi civil suit court date set

TORONTO — The largest civil litigation case in professional hockey history will begin playing out in Ontario Superior Court next year.

A date of Sept. 24, 2012 has been set for the court to hear the $20-million lawsuit launched by ex-Colorado Avalanche forward Steve Moore against then-Vancouver Canuck Todd Bertuzzi and Orca Bay Ltd., the company that owned the Canucks at the time, for an on-ice career-ending sucker-punch more than seven years ago.

Bertuzzi, who is entering his 16th season with the NHL, is also counter-suing his former coach, Marc Crawford, alleging that he was encouraged to hit Moore.

A source close to the case says the target date will go ahead if Bertuzzi, now with the Detroit Red Wings, is still an active player. If he is retired by this time next year, the trial will begin on Oct. 22 instead.

Moore, now 33, has not played professional hockey since the March 8, 2004 hit.

Both sides in the case were expected to call on a multitude of international medical and sports experts during the anticipated three-month trial.

The issue has been a hot topic in recent months, with the sudden deaths of three NHL enforcers this summer leading to speculation about the effects of physical violence in sports.

I think 5.5m per is a really good deal for the Islanders, especially considering what other players are getting this off-season. He's still on his entry level contract for the upcoming season so when this deal kicks in, I'd say there's a good chance that he's near or at least a point-per-game player. IMO, he'll be able to crack 100+ points sometime during that contract, he still has a lot of high-end potential.

I like what ray Ferraro had to say on the radio this morning, what is a player like doughty, who in all terms has the skill/ability to be that upper echelon guy doing turning down 6.7 mill a year at the age of 22 when last season he came to camp over weight and out of shape

He went on to say that as a GM he would have no problem in the world giving a player like toews any length of contract he wanted because a player like toews you know is going to be 100% committed to his craft for that contract, players who can't stay in shape during the season, let alone off season ie. Bigfaglin must have gm's shaking in their boots that you have a guy like that locked up long term

THE FLASH IS BACK!!!!!!

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Teemu Selanne is returning for another season with the Anaheim Ducks, agreeing to a one-year contract.

Anaheim announced the deal Thursday for Selanne, the franchise's 41-year-old career scoring leader.

Selanne was the NHL's eighth-leading scorer last season with 80 points, the third-best season by a player in his 40s in league history. The Finnish Flash is the 27th-leading scorer in NHL history, 14th in goals.

Selanne was expected to return after his outstanding season, but spent the summer debating his future after post-season knee surgery. He has been skating daily in Anaheim in recent weeks.

Selanne's decision to return is a huge boost to the Ducks, who open training camp on Saturday.

It'll be nice to see Selanne play the Jets in mid-December. It's gonna be crazy down there!

btw, Selanne is worth every Penny. Doughty, not so much (At least he proves he has good work ethic)

Holy fuck what crazy news at 10:30 on a thursday night :sleepingzz::sleepingzz::sleepingzz::sleepingzz:

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=375906

When the Toronto Maple Leafs open training camp on Friday, they will have Luke Schenn on the blueline.

Schenn agreed to a five-year contract with the club on Thursday night. While exact details of the deal are not known, it is believed that Schenn will earn approximately $3.5 million per season.

Schenn, 21, played all 82 games last season and scored five goals and 17 assists. The Saskatoon native is entering his fourth season with the Maple Leafs.

The 6'2, 215-pound rearguard finished his three-year, $2.625 million entry level contract at the end of last season. He was Toronto's first round pick, fifth overall, in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

I'd go with Nash to be on the safe side.

Crosby: Post-concussion = slow start
Nash: Playing with Carter = Predicted boosted point production

I definitely do not expect Crosby to be at 100% when he comes back. You also have to consider that he will probably be back in November or even later.

In the end, I think Crosby will be about equal or a bit less to Nash in points. But you might as well pick Nash cause he can start earning you other stats right away unless you are straight up just points.

So this hockey pool I'm in I can pick either Crosby or Nash. This could make or break it what should I do???

Keeper league take Crosby, one year pool take Nash.

From TSN homepage:

On the first day of training camp, it appears Sidney Crosby has moved one step closer to returning. According to the Pittsburgh Tribune Review, Crosby has been cleared to practice without contact as he continues to recover from post-concussion symptoms.

Even with that headline teaser above...they will NOT rush him back.

TSN projections have Crosby getting 80 points in 55 games :fulloffuck: and Nash getting 69 in 76.

What if Crosby doesn't come back until the allstar break?

MR_BIGGS

I mentioned some pages back about me trading Price for Duchene in the keeper pool I'm in. Well it didn't happen. Ends up the guy traded Duchene for 4th overall pick this year and a conditional first round pick next season. The condition being if the pick is not in the top 8, he also gets a 1st round pick for 2013. So essentially 3 high first round picks for Duchene.

Who do you guys take between Zibanejad and Strome in a keeper pool?? After seeing what Zibanejad has done in rookies camp I think he'll play 2nd line centre this season. Who has more of a ceiling?

shawn79

take zibanejad.

strome is a center and islanders already have depth in it not sure if strome can crack second line ahead of josh bailey who recent signed a new contract

okposo tavares grabner
moulson baily parenteau
comeau neilsen nino

that leaves strome on 3rd or 4th at best, he'll likely go back to juniors

Update: Doughty, unsigned as camp looms | ViseSports (http://visesports.com/2011/09/doughty-schenn-unsigned-as-camp-looms/)
Doughty turns down $60 Mil over 9 years. It’s said he’s concerned about the length of the contract. He remains unsigned and is still in discussions with the Kings but not expected to show up at training camp Friday. He’s said to be looking for something of 6-8 years and more than 6.8 Mil range per year.

I don't like where this is going: Leafs have added sponsorship to their practice jerseys.

Kelly: The Leafs on slippery slope of jersey sponsorship - thestar.com (http://www.thestar.com/sports/hockey/nhl/mapleleafs/article/1054876--kelly-the-leafs-on-slippery-slope-of-jersey-sponsorship)

Full text in spoiler:
The Toronto Maple Leafs have taken a first small step over the economic edge and begun making their way down the slippery slope toward European-style shirt sponsorship.

This morning, the Leafs will debut a credit-card sized patch on the chest of the team’s practice jersey advertising the Purolator brand. It’s one element of a larger sponsorship deal that has the Canadian shipping giant paying the club an amount in the low seven figures, according to MLSE sources.

The Leafs become the sixth NHL franchise to take advantage of the league’s new (and in certain U.S. markets, desperate) search for additional revenue streams.

At this point, it’s an experiment contained to morning skates and the off-season.

But this is where it starts - on a practice jersey even the die-hards don’t give a damn about. This road leads, of course, to the sacramental cloth the players wear on game days.

Shirt sponsorship in the modern, splashed-in-big-letters-across-the-front sense started in Germany’s Bundesliga in the early 70s. It was deeply unpopular. Within a decade, everyone was doing it.

For the biggest soccer clubs in Europe, it is a colossal source of revenue. Manchester City recently signed a 10-year, $625 million sponsorship deal with Etihad Airways, the major component of which is their shirt-front billboard.

Nearly every sports league in the world has sold off its uniforms. Except here.

North America is an island in the larger world of professional sports, actually and ideologically. We are new countries with old traditions. The uniform colours don’t change year to year. The logos don’t ever really change. The symbols mean something.

This is the dangerous ground the NHL must now contemplate crossing while balancing several clubs in dangerous financial decline in one hand, and tradition in the other.

History has generally shown that, in that fight, money wins.

Any sort of switch that smells of commerce will be welcomed like a skunk at a garden party. Europeans (and eventually, everybody else) got used to it, but their transition was relatively simpler.

In Europe, there is little tradition of splashing a team logo across the front of a jersey. Most teams feature a small badge over the heart. That left a lot of unused real estate to play with.

In order to reap maximum financial advantage, NHL teams would have to make room by getting rid of their team logos.

Nobody in Raleigh is going to kick too hard if the stylized hurricane is bumped. Just try replacing the winged tire on Detroit’s jersey with a Chrysler logo. In the current climate, it’s impossible.

But, let’s say the NHL left this up to clubs to decide. And let’s imagine that a few of the fringe or nearly bankrupt outfits decided to try it out. As soon as the predictable backlash petered off, how long would the Original Six hold out?

How much would it cost, say, a Bell or a Rogers or a TD Bank, to convince Toronto to remove the maple leaf from the jersey front?

“That would be blasphemous,” MLSE VP Tom Anselmi said yesterday, when the idea was put to him.

So you’d rule it out categorically?

Anselmi is that rare sort who thinks about questions before he answers them. He thought for a long while.

“Yes,” he said finally. “As long as I’m here.”

He won’t be there forever.

They don’t step on the lot ‘less they wanna buy. That’s the car salesman’s creed. It works the other way around, too – you don’t open up this can of worms unless you’re willing to sell.

This will happen. As long as there’s a serious buck to be made, business logos will migrate from practice jerseys to game uniforms. It’s going to happen because too many clubs in the NHL need the money to survive.

The maple leaf will never disappear from the Toronto jersey. But who’d bet it will always be front and centre if shrinking it or pushing it off to the side earns the club half a year’s worth of ticket revenue?

When and if the NHL’s most famous symbols begin to fade in the capitalist clutter, the purists will wonder if anything is sacred any more.

The slow creep of commerce across the ocean and into North American sport’s holiest of holies suggests that nothing ever was.

That would be hilarious. The Oilers have already screwed LA enough this summer, then add this low blow.

I'm not sure about all this dynasty talk though, esp in this salary cap era. Their top end talent, if they can develop into game breakers within the 3 years of entry level contracts, can/will command huge $$ as shown by Tavares/Myers signings, making it difficult to keep them all in one place and still able to field a decent team around them. A fresh #1 pick, a top-end d-man, and even the league's best goalie does not turn the worst team last year into a cup contender, sorry.

If you're planning to go tomorrow, line up at 8. Even though doors opened at 8:30 there was a long line by then.

Expect A LOT of loud/annoying puckbunnys (girls who just watch hockey cause of the guys who kept saying "I LUV U ____"), LG's and LB's.

Other then that, it was a pretty neat experience watching Hodgson practice with Daniel, Schroeder with Burrows, Hansen sniping it every time he shot a puck and Kesler practicing on his own before the team came on.

The team was split into 2 groups and the practice went from 8:30am to 1:30pm.

Good luck.

Unlikely. He had decent numbers last year in the AHL and his size is a big problem preventing him to be on team. That was mainly why teams passed on him during his draft year--he was ranked to go much higher.

“Nicklas Jensen has looked extremely good, very strong, very good skater, very good hands" - #Canucks assistant GM Laurence Gilman"

"@imacVanSun: Vigneault says veterans tested even better physically than last year. "There goes that theory about the short summer." # ..."

"@RealKyper: #NHL news. Several teams have made inquiries for Bryan Mccabe including #Isles #Blues #Canucks. He continues to leave all his options open"

Unlikely. He had decent numbers last year in the AHL and his size is a big problem preventing him to be on team. That was mainly why teams passed on him during his draft year--he was ranked to go much higher.

He also admitted that he hasn't adapted yet to the long pro schedule. This is why he shone during his AHL playoffs (dense, compressed schedule), but then performed sub-optimally for his first full AHL season. Once his conditioning is up to pro standards, however, I'm sure he can be a top 6 guy for us.

Schroeder has good speed and a solid shot, but he needs to strengthen up a lot if he hopes to crack the line up.

Idiots started linin up the wrong way. Intead of going around Rogers arena, the line up has swung towards the train and road.
