Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks President & General Manager Mike Gillis announced today that the Canucks have signed defenceman Frank Corrado.
Corrado, 18, averaged 20:46 ice time per game, blocked four shots and was +1 through two NHL Pre-Season games played with the Vancouver Canucks in 2011.

The Woodbridge, Ontario native spent the 2010.11 season with the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League, collecting 30 points (4-26-67) in 67 games.

The 6’0”, 188-pound defenceman was selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the fifth round, 150th overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Corrado has been assigned to his junior club, the Sudbury Wolves of the OHL.

Looks like I'm going to my first NHL game!

Canucks vs Sharks Jan 21 with Saucywoman. It's a 1pm game but if I went to a later game I run into the issue of not being able to catch a ferry back to Bowen and spending a night.

I wanted to pop my NHL cherry with the Leafs game but couldn't get tickets.

I know eh. Leisure activities were a low priority in the family budget even though my family was upper-middle class in terms of income and neighbourhood. I was one of those kids that never went to Disneyland, never traveled beyond North America, had to wear clothes from Kmart, ate the no-name/imitation brands, etc. I kinda took the same approach as an adult with my own income. Another factor was that until August, I lived in Kamloops with no NHL team so attending a game in Vancouver would have included travel and hotel costs.

I've been to countless WHL games over the years and the Brad May and Friends game in Kamloops during the lockout so that's gotta count for something!

I’m not sure what is more absurd: the idea that Alain Vigneault is a buffoon and the biggest obstacle to the Canucks winning the Stanley Cup, or that evidence of this is that the pre-season-opening deployment of Cody Hodgson reflects the coach’s determination to see his top prospect fail – even at the expense of the team’s success.

You can see my dilemma. Which theory is less sensible?

Vigneault is easily the winningest coach in franchise history, a three-time (in eight seasons) NHL coach-of-year finalist who has pushed every significant Canuck player to his best season and whose winning percentage makes Pat Quinn look like Tom Watt. (No offence to the big Irishman, although I doubt he’s surfing the web to read hockey blogs).

And Hodgson is one exhibition game into his third full training camp and, at age 21, remains an excellent NHL prospect. The thing that has hindered Hodgson nearly as much as injuries is the constant stream of gossipy stories – real and imagined – about his relationship to the Canucks, his teammates, the GM and the coach.

Please, for once, can we just let Cody Hodgson play? If he’s good enough to be in the NHL this season, he’ll prove it and be on the Canucks. Vigneault’s only agenda is to win.

I think there's a minimum number of veterans you must dress for pre-season games and the Canucks just barely meet that requirement.

The Canucks do not have the luxury of finding a replacement for a player that can play one game, and then miss practice/game day skate because he has to nurse some sorta bruise or injury. Simply put it, he might be there mentally, but physically he is not up to par.

The Canuck regulars who have yet to see any action in the pre-season each figure to play in two of Vancouver's final three exhibition games.

Nolan., the 39-year-old veteran looking to return to the NHL after spending last season in the Swiss League, returns to tonight's lineup after sitting out Saturday night's 4-1 loss to the Anaheim Ducks with groin tightness.

Vigneault acknowledged that whether Nolan can keep his body healthy is a significant concern.

"In his case I'd have to say that right now that, you know, can the body hold up to the pace, can the body sustain it on a consistent basis," Vigneault said. "You have to be able to practise, you have to be able to play to maintain a high tempo. So that's part of our evaluation of him right now, can he maintain it and sustain it on a daily basis."

Nolan suggested too much is being made of him missing Friday's practice and Saturday's game with a sore groin.

"To me, it's not a big issue right now," Nolan said. "If you look around there are some younger guys with the same thing right now. It's always part of camp. I'm sure if you ask other teams, the biggest concern right now is the groins."

I think he would have been great on the first or second PP unit and taking important faceoffs. But beyond that, I don't think he could have handled playing a full season in the NHL for the Nucks. Nucks are just too deep to have him play on the third line.

Today's reality for pro-sports is that things like this will get attention. An automatic suspension though? I don't think a suspension should be warranted. Kobe Bryant got fined $100,000 for saying it to a ref and Joakim Noah got $50 G when he said it to a fan. How much should you get if you say it to another player?

I want to say, it was in the heat of the battle, but that would be a slippery slope to take because what is stopping players from saying racial things.

People (and animals) have been fucking the same gender since the beginning of time. It's only when particular arbitrary morals are applied where such acts become considered "wrong". And that is fine. London Police have publicly identified a suspect in connection with last week's banana throwing incident at the John Labatt Centre.

The announcement was made by Police Chief Brad Duncan in a news conference late Wednesday morning at Police headquarters.

"26-year-old Christopher Moorhouse of London has been charged with engaged in a prohibited activity on a premises under the trespass to property act, a provincial statute." said Duncan.

"Mr.Moorhouse has been served with a part three summons, and if convicted of this offence - could be liable to a fine of not more than $2,000. This is a provincial offence and not a criminal charge, and will be dealt with in the provincial offenses court."

I actually like that the change, because the team colour will be the dominate colour on the jerseys. Rather than white. For example: Canucks blue or Caps bright red.
