I've watched enough hockey to know he offers to the Canucks:

Speed, leadership qualities, face-off ability, able to kill penalties, preserve leads and is a versatile checking forward.

there's a difference of trying to avoid a high stick and a spear. the nashville game was a spear it could have caused major injury to any player, people try to avoid those.
a 3rd and 4th line player is never going to be a + player every year. also a player that plays the pk +/- is never really a true tale either as a minus can come 1 second after a power play.

He's -10 because he ONLY takes defensive zone faceoffs, he's never on the ice for ANY offensive flurries, so of course he's a minus player! The only one worthy of a facepalm is yourself as you obviously don't understand how hockey games are played nor are you aware of what roles different players like Malholtra have.

The plus minus i attribute to starting in your own zone ~90% of the time, not saying starting in your own zone means that you can't score. But in most cases once manny gets out of the zone, he gets on the bench.

Now as for MG wanting to get rid of him, maybe thats your hockey senses tingling, but it sure sounds like armchair gm to me. Besides, even if manny leaves, there are many reason that could happen. Maybe he's demanding the same money, I certainly do not think he's worht the 2.5mil he's earnign right now. Or he thinks he'll have more opportunity elsewhere.

the bottom line is, we have a player that is playing on our team that is no where near 100%, if you think he isnt currently a liability, you dont know anything about hockey or you havent been watching the games, he sticks out like a sore thumb

I "face palm" when people put emotional ties ahead of factual stats as reason to keep players around.

I don't even watch the canucks nor am I a fan, so I think I won't be emotionally attached to anything in my argument lol, but if I recall correctly Manny has something like 83% zone starts in the defensive end, thats a redic amount of ice time in your own zone, I think it would be unfair to expect him to be a non minus player, hes basically being put in a situation where he can only come out a neutral at best. I'm also not sure why you said he wasn't necessary for draws in your other post because of hank, hodg, and kes being able to take draws? because henrik and hodg are both below average faceoff men according to the statistics they clock in at 49 and 41% while manny is at 58%.

kris draper had 12 or 13 of his 20 seasons as a +5 or worse player.
hes probably considered one of the 3rd/4th line guys in recent history

jarome iginla is a -5 this year with 44 points
claude giroux is a -2 and leads the league with 61 points
and these are guys who are out there to score points! not defend in their own end.

+/- is not an indicator of a players worth. infact manny only being a -10 in a role where hes almost expected to just win the face off, clear the zone, hit center, dump the puck, and line change is probably on the acceptable level.

The +\- argument is subjective as many people debate it's worth as a stat, I base worth on what I see on the ice

As well, if manny is only a - player because he's the one taking defensive zone face offs, why are none of the players who also kill penalties even close to his +\-?

^ also, in such a heavily defensive role, for him to break even basically means NO OPPOSING PLAYER is scoring while he's on the ice. ie, it's impossible. Manny has 5 goals on the season now I believe so to me, he's doing everything we want from him.

I have literally no loyalty to Malholtra, and I do think there are better 4th line centres in the league............ but he's not even really our 4th line centre... Lappierre is... he just comes out, takes faceoffs, dumps it in and changes. That's it.

You do not get a minus when you are scored against in shorthanded situations.

I look at that stat for Malholtra like this ----> his line has only been scored on at even strength in faceoffs that occurred within the Canucks zone ~15 times on the whole season. That's pretty decent.

I'm not emotionally tied to him, but he's far from horrible... and even if he is the "worst player on the Canucks" someone has to be that person on the roster and even then he's still better than a lot of players on a lot of other teams and that's what counts.

The plus minus i attribute to starting in your own zone ~90% of the time, not saying starting in your own zone means that you can't score. But in most cases once manny gets out of the zone, he gets on the bench.

Now as for MG wanting to get rid of him, maybe thats your hockey senses tingling, but it sure sounds like armchair gm to me. Besides, even if manny leaves, there are many reason that could happen. Maybe he's demanding the same money, I certainly do not think he's worht the 2.5mil he's earnign right now. Or he thinks he'll have more opportunity elsewhere.

I've been pleasantly surprised by how Bitz has been holding his own playing with the Sedins. He's a better skater than I thought and looks like he's recovered from serious injuries he had in prior years. Tough guy or not, it's good to have his physical presence out there that can contribute and not be a liability to the team.

Marchand will get his one way or another. Players in the league have long memories and the way he plays certainly doesn't make him friends.
