Prease…. Netflix you get the one with ads duh. Prime you can steal some kids “student accounts”. All you have to do is just use an IP address that they determine is from a school and they’ll automatically offer you student pricing.

Disney plus or Netflix you can negotiate with Shaw / Telus to throw it into your bundle. Or threaten to leave !!!

So I always wondered, how do you access so many movies? On said TV box? But so many that you review are recent releases. Some are ching chong obscure ones. But Netflix? Amazon Prime? Is this your one indulgence?

yeah, China tv boxes. they sell them on AMZ or at crystal mall or parker place.

I mean i'm on version 7 few years ago, and now it's version 11. The processor speed does increase YOY.

China is on a diff level, I'm assuming someone post it on their server and you just access their private server. You get all the series as well... Very end user friendly.

It's a) not full high def b) you do get limited western content (due to live time zone) c) you do get disney, prime, netflix movie all together.

Lastly.. i yelled my family. Who caressss...you're only watching Global and TVB for 100 bucks a month... now you get everything... and not a single ad from netflix.

I'm still OG. While I do have a bunch of steaming services (Netflix/Disney/Prime/Crave/Paramount) those only cover certain shows/movies. For HK dramas I usually stream for free on a website. For everything else I still torrent. If I really wanted to I can get rid of more streaming services and just go back to more torrenting but for the kids it's just easier.

ya when they work they're real nice when they don't, well...

i actually got ver11 for my parents for xmas. due to unreliability (they have slower speeds than me too) i know they'll keep cable tv, but it's a nice option as a supplement, i.e. more content - movies / shows on demand.

Yes, it does lag at times.

By the time I get off a waitlist, it'll be time for kindergarten. I need to know someone who knows someone. :lawl:

And I did tour another day care as it was brand new location and between my house and current location. Prior to the tour, they wouldn't tell me their price, but claimed it was less than what I paid. During the tour, I see a sheet posted with their prices.... SAME price! And after talking to the teacher, they offered less than my current one, space it self wasn't as good either. They had 1 room to do everything eat sleep and play, so a lot of wasted time moving things for the next activity.

TBF, as long as the kid is happy, you are happy, a few more bucks is less of an issue if affordability isn't an issue on your budgets. Even with kindergarten if you need before and afterschool care it's still quite pricy.

Awww yea that was sweet. We lucked out and got into the Day Care/Montessori/Pre School whatever you want to call it that was at the top of our list. New location (1st one was in Marpole) and it was 1.5 blocks from my house. We had planned to start her in September the year she was 3 but due to COVID I guess lots of people were wary about bringing their kids to day cares and thus turned down offers to join. We got the call, in March of 2022, she wasn't even 3 yet but they said the spot is ours if we want it only condition was we needed to start within a month. The deal breaker was no she didn't need to be potty trained. $1500 /month but all meals included and they even had extra classes included at no extra charge i.e. Tae Kwan do, French, etc . Best money ever spent I didn't have do make any lunches or snacks for 2 years, she came home potty trained and everything. Bonus, that the $1500 ended up being $1000 when that Government Program came in and for once it was a program that wasn't income based it was simply if the Day Care applied then it applies to all students.

Those are so sick.

Can you shed some light on how this works? Do you buy all the individual pieces yourself and then follow Brickmania's instructions? Or does it come as a set/package ready to build?

Those are so sick.

Can you shed some light on how this works? Do you buy all the individual pieces yourself and then follow Brickmania's instructions? Or does it come as a set/package ready to build?

You have two options:

Buy the full kit. This is very convenient - you get all the pieces, printed instructions, printed parts, and custom printed minifigs. However this is very expensive and kits often sell out quickly.

The other option is to buy digital instructions, which will come with a list of the necessary pieces. You can keep your costs down by getting parts from your own collection, or buying used pieces. You can order parts directly from LEGO (generally more expensive than used pieces, but you can get free shipping, but shipping takes forever), or buy from individual stores on Bricklink (faster service/delivery, but you'll have to pay shipping multiple times). Going this route you won't have printed parts nor custom printed minifigs.

Occasionally you might come across printed part packs for sale, but these are quite hard to come by and can be expensive. In general, these companies will sell the full kits, then make instructions + stickers available. If they also made standalone printed part packs, then people wouldn't buy the full kits.

Currently, JGbricks (https://jgbricks.com/) (Canadian based) happens to have two versions (very limited quantities) of printed parts for F-35 for sale at the moment.

Brickveteran (https://www.brickveteran.com/) has a pack of printed parts (includes 2 pilots) for a F-18F (only 1 remaining!), and they also sell the digital instructions too. Be warned that they are based in the US and if they ship via UPS, you will get charged stupid UPS fees on top of taxes.

Planebricks (https://planebricks.com/) sells instructions and stickers for really nice models. Rebrickable (https://rebrickable.com/) is a site that sells instructions only (all types of models, not just military).

PM me if you have more questions.

So I went out this morning at the crack of dawn like any self-respecting geezer would, and shot these birds in the rain. The new penis lens and my cheapie Canon R50 arent weather proof so I didn't stay out for very long.

Low light night performance is very very good thanks to the len's internal image stabilization. it also helps my shakey hands due to all the years of jerking off.

I mostly got this lens to shoot ratrolla and friends. I watched a video online that says lens compression really helps "flatten" the car and gives it a more heroic stance. Seems to work quite well! 100mm. I fucked up on the f stop and left it in f11 and thus no bokeh :(

Badhobz

threw the car photo into lightroom and added fake bokeh.

overall lightroom did an okay job, its just the passenger side rear roofline that's pretty pixelated and the driver side mirror that's not right.

Im sure there is a way to adjust it properly, but me kinda stupid and only played with that lens blur slider.

Piece of cake to make (if you have a sous vide machine) and pork shoulder is dirt cheap (I paid $23 for a 7lb cut from Costco). I don't think I can go back to the dry centre cut chops anymore.

Buying whole loins is a great way to save money. They are absurdly easy for people with no butchery skills to cut them and you end up having huge chops for like $3 a piece. You don't have to trim or clean them up at all.

I've had good experience with Anova. You can use a stock pot or anything capable of holding hot water.

Buying whole loins is a great way to save money. They are absurdly easy for people with no butchery skills to cut them and you end up having huge chops for like $3 a piece. You don't have to trim or clean them up at all.

I've considered doing that though my "beef" with loins is that they're too lean and make for crappy dry pork if I'm going for the classic pork chop. It works fine for fast fry style or stir fry style cooking though. The pork shoulder has so much more fat so a lot more fun to eat.

Daaaamn.

I don't think it really matters that much - Wirecutter has the Monoprice one as their basic pick and the Joule Turbo as the fancy pick. I have an original, Kickstarter era Anova (red!). I'd say that if you think you'll be doing big (like 10-15lbs) meats then you'll want something with a bit more power (like 1100 watts) so it can keep the water warm enough but otherwise it's all the same.

If you are that kind of maniac then you'll probably want to take a Coleman stacker cooler and make it a big sous vide cooler (https://anovaculinary.com/en-ca/blogs/blog/sous-vide-cooler-guide?srsltid=AfmBOor4zDiXdhkevJ8JqlKlmw57M3uo21dC WKOTmTThQNp_lQjKlKJK). I just use a 12 quart Rubbermaid instead and use plastic wrap on top to keep the steam in.

My Dyson V15 broke.

The dustbin seal on the back on the bin came off. I got around to try and put it back together today and noticed all the little clasps that hold on to the ring which sandwiches the seal has cracked. The bin base is also cracked.

2 year warranty though, time to bring it into the Dyson store.

damn what is up with dysons quality control lately :suspicious:

Pork shoulder has so much fat you can do it in a standard oven with similar results instead of sous vide unless it's a convenience thing (e.g. set it and leave the house to run errands).

It's been a staple for my work lunch meal prep, two basic preparations I do:

Slow roast in an oven around 200 deg (ideally after a wet or dry brine) for a few hours until it hits 175-185 F (depending on texture you want). 175F will get you more pork chop texture while 185+ will get you more shredded pork texture.

The key is slowing down the cooking above 145F because that's when collagen (which causes tough cuts like this to be tough if not cooked long enough) starts breaking down into gelatin (turning tough cuts like this into juicy sticky goodness). Sous vide is good for this, but if you don't want the hassle you can just as easily achieve the similar result in an oven on low for a few hours. If you wanna brown it just finish in oven at around 425F for a few mins

With oven roast you can buy Lee Kum Kee Char Siu sauce and make char Siu at home that is pretty decent (nowhere near authentic though).

The second preparation is to cut it into 2 inch chunks, throw it in a Dutch oven dry with no oil or liquids. When you cook it down, the fat renders and meat juices come out so it starts to confit and braise in its own fat and juices. On the stovetop covered for about 1.5-2 hrs just pull it apart into pulled pork and mix it back in with it's cooking juice. Depending on how you marinate it, you can make it Mexican like carnitas, Cuban like mojo, murkian like pulled pork.

So what are you guys using for sous vide now, and what do you guys recommend? All this sous vide talk is making think about finally investing on one

Steak, pork chops, carrots, salmon (makes for great rillettes), and now pork shoulder. I used to use it a lot for steaks but I prefer the reverse sear method now so the sous vide only comes out 5-6 times a year.

I really like how carrots (or other veg) come out but it requires 183F temps which can be hard to maintain and the carrots are a bit challenging to vacuum seal (they give off gases as they cook making it hard to keep underwater).

Honestly, it's pretty low on my list of appliances to own - I'd rank my stovetop popcorn machine ahead of it for example - but it's really useful for some recipes like the pork shoulder. It's also handy when you want to go from freezer to cooking right away like if you have a frozen, vacuum sealed seasoned steak you can toss it into the sous vide directly and have dinner in a few hours.

I agree with Supa in terms of sous vide as a must own appliance. I cook a lot, and bought one years ago but ended up giving it away to my parents coz I rarely used it and I hate clutter with small appliances. "Replaced" the space gained with a stovetop pressure cooker that I use much more often.

Anova is what you want to get for a circulator.
More importantly though get a counter top vac pac machine. If you aren't doing the vide part you can't really take advantage of the circulator.
The point of it is to be in an anaerobic environment so that you can cook at a temperature that is dangerously low for a long period of time but without the presence of oxygen it's a poor environment for bacteria to grow.
Like if you do 20hr short ribs and your not properly vac pacd be ready for a night of shitting yourself.
Connective tissue breaks down at temps as low as 120F which means you can break down the tough bits and have a super tough cut that normally would need to be cooked for a long enough time that it would be impossible not to dry it out unless you braise or confit otherwise.

I have the Anova and it's more than awesome. Also have a tabletop sealer. I used to use the app that came with the Anova to monitor the progress, but that got old really quick. I hope the Anova keeps going. Had it for nearly 8 years, maybe more. That sealer makes freezing stuff so convenient. Reduces freezer burn. Got the sealer at Costco. They go on sale every now and then. I purchased my Anova during Black Friday. Actually, on advice from someone on Revscene.

GAYS!!! GAYS!!! guess what! on my way home from da meat, I stopped by london drugged up and got a new lens for my camera

I don't know what sort of photos I'm suppose to take with this huge penis lens, but ill find out tomorrow
It's a great tele lens in daylight - damn sharp and good for what it is. The best attributes is how light and cheap it is for a 100-400. I have one myself and I enjoy it. I'll be taking it to the Melbourne F1 GP to take shots.

You take shots like this with that lens:

https://i.ibb.co/cSzM07Tp/image.png

https://i.ibb.co/pBn4PSzg/image.png

https://i.ibb.co/KjGgkHCm/image.png

https://i.ibb.co/Mydyxx3C/image.png

I mostly got this lens to shoot ratrolla and friends. I watched a video online that says lens compression really helps "flatten" the car and gives it a more heroic stance. Seems to work quite well! 100mm. I fucked up on the f stop and left it in f11 and thus no bokeh

It's kinda the wrong lens for bokeh.... aperture too small and you'd need to get it at 400mm to really make it work. A faster (i.e. smaller f number) lens will work better.

For vacuum machine for sous vide, I recommend Vac Master. It's probably the last vacuum machine (chamber type) you'd ever buy as mine has gone through a good 5yrs and 0 problem.

You read the manual and you'd see it's designed to be bullet proof and list every single part inside the unit with their respective part numbers that if you ever need anything, you should be able to source one without problem.

The use is far more versatile than sous vide machine actually.

I use it to seal soup, veggies, meats, fruit and on and on. You can even use the pressure to quickly infuse flavour into things to make cool cocktail or molecular gastronomy. Definitely something I'd recommend investing in even if you don't sous vide.

Just got a quote from Centra Windows to redo all the windows in my Vancouver Special.

If you opt for triple pane windows you are eligible for the federal interest-free loan, which is up to $40k interest-free loan over 10 years, at the end of the 10 years you have to pay the balance in full.

For double pane low e (double) windows about 22 windows were quoted at $25k
For triple pane low e (double) windows was $30k

Since the difference is only $5k, I think I'm going to go with the triple pane windows so I can get the 10 year interest federal loan. The double pane do not qualify for the interest-free loan.

I will open a separate investing account, put $250 ($30,000/10 years/12 months) a month into VFV index at an 8% return after 10 years, I should have roughly $46k in that investment account at the end of 10 years. So that should more than cover the original loan.

I'm also getting a quote from ecoline windows as they were in costco so I'll see what their quote is, but I read online that Centra windows are better than ecoline?

But, yeah that's my strategy since my windows are 38 years old aluminum, so they're needing to be replaced.

Food for thought for those who are looking to replace their windows.

I got a quote from Centra back in November when they had an additional 30% off promo for a Vancouver Special. We were planning to just do the upstairs and after 30% off it was still a wild price. Additionally it was double pane and the install was where they just put the insert in meaning your window size decreases.

I got a 2nd quote from Long Life Windows which was the company through my research that I wanted to go with, they're more a boutique place, locally owned etc. Their install was more what you would think where they remove your frame and get into the envelope. With no discounts the price was almost exactly the same.

Quotes aside while Centra was very good during their quote you can tell they're a big company where their sales pitch is well polished. I can see why people go with them.

Long Life the person who came was the owners son, he was more laid back but also really professional and felt way less pressure from him.

We went to the aquarium on family day. It was chaos, but we expected that.

At one point, our little guy wanted a break and a snack, so we went downstairs where they have some raised benches, kind of like bleachers, so we could take a seat and chill out for a bit.

We sat down, and a couple minutes later, we hear this bozo telling off an Asian family because they started sitting next to (or within, I couldn't tell) a space where he had spread out 2 small jackets and a couple water bottles to "save" his seats. He called them idiots.

Then he walks off with an old lady who might have been his mom or MIL.

He's gone now, way out of sight. And my wife and I commented how this guy has the audacity to try and claim space for six people as his personal seats with just a couple small jackets, then walk off like that.

I'll admit, I kind of wanted to just shove his jackets out of the way because of his attitude, but I didn't of course.

Little did we know they were about to start a presentation in about 15 mins and that's why people were gathering in advance.

About 1 min before the presentation is about to start, the seats are totally full. Bozo shows up and immediately tells the people sitting next to his jackets that he was there first and they have to leave. Full stop. Get up and leave.

He was such a jerk, I was astounded.

People are kind of stunned. And yet he kept going on.

I wanted to chime in, but there were enough people chirping back at him that I figured I could keep quiet.

As tension escalated, I started recording, just in case.

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/NqmV_s2-yOU

He swore at the lady in the white shirt and that's why she left to go find security or a manager.

The guy in the white shirt was like screw this, i'll just get up and leave with my kids.

A few mins later, a dude showed up and asked bozo to leave. He said ok no problem, but you could tell he did so thinking he was the "bigger person" by not causing a scene.

I felt bad for the lady who found the manager. She legit thought he'd be waiting for her after the show was over.

Ahhhh it was so infuriating. It's the AQUARIUM and FAMILY DAY and kids everywhere.

if my stuff is set at a seat/space, i don't see why i can't step away (eg use the washroom), people do this all the time. mind you if someone sits next to my stuff, especially when there's a show and everyone needs to squeeze in to fit in, i also appreciate that, people do that all the time too.

screaming at people, asian or not, is unnecessary.
everyone's got a family, it's a family day. there's no need to start shit or try to be a tough guy.

i find people that try to start shit often try to do it to someone they realize they can do it to as well and get away with it (i.e. smaller women, older people, language barrier, etc).

that younger guy wasn't having it, and i bet you that dude would not be as 'polite' if it was someone smaller they feel they can intimidate or got so much push back from several people.

when its super busy the least you can do is have one or two people in your group sit with the jackets to save the seats. if you just up and leave then it's kinda shitty to expect that your placeholders should be respected when others are struggling to find any seats at all. i can understand having to take your kid to the bathroom but 6 seats? surely someone could have stayed. also to cause a scene about it at a family event is beyond shitty, it's deplorable.

Using the washroom is fine. But I feel like if you're going to save spots, then you should have someone to stay behind and be the gatekeeper or you're risking it.

Leaving a couple small jackets behind to save spots for six people 15 mins early, and then leaving to go enjoy other parts of the aquarium, only to come back 1 min before and expecting either (a) your spots to still be there and/or (b) that people would just move aside for you like you're the royal family, and then give people attitude to boot, is absurd.

Yea I feel in these scenarios there's also a ratio factor. Like if you have 4 people seated and a couple items saving a total of 6 spots vs 1 person and various items trying to save 6 spots it feels very different. Of course the being a dick or not really puts the cherry on top.

On the topic of saving spots the swim school where my kids go to we've been at for a few years and in the earlier days people always left their shit in the changing stalls right before the kids got out of class despite the staff saying don't do it. I got into it with a couple dads on 2 occasions and they seemed to have zero shame and don't feel they did anything wrong. Yea I get it your kids cold you don't want to wait for a stall but guess what? Every parent is in the same boat you're not special.

Of course the being a dick or not really puts the cherry on top.

Yeah. For me, the tipping point was when he said to the guy something like

"i'm sorry, I apologize. You're here with your kids. I get that. I apologize. ...

But I was here first".

It's an old rule: Never follow up an apology with the word "but"

On the topic of saving spots the swim school where my kids go to we've been at for a few years and in the earlier days people always left their shit in the changing stalls right before the kids got out of class despite the staff saying don't do it.

That's ridiculous.

Then he told me that Canada is fucked and the US was corrupt before but now with Elon Musk & DOGE (which they needed to mention that it was a meme come true), RFK, and Trump, America is saved.

Following that, he proceeded to tell me about how all of our banking institutions will cease to exist after June 30, 2026 per the Bank Act of Canada Section 21.

The Bank of Canada's sunset provision is a clause in the Bank Act that requires Parliament to update the act every five years.

The sunset provision ensures that the Bank Act is regularly reviewed and updated to keep pace with financial system developments.

How does the sunset provision work?
The sunset provision states that banks and authorized foreign banks will no longer be able to operate in Canada after a certain date.

Parliament can move the sunset date by passing new legislation.

The sunset provision is automatic and does not require further authorization.

Purpose of the sunset provision
The sunset provision's purpose is to encourage the government and federal legislature to review and update the Bank Act, rather than force the Canadian financial services sector to shut down.
History of the sunset provision

The Bank Act was originally passed in 1871. The most recent statutory review of the Act took place in 2019. The next review is scheduled for 2025.

According to Google AI summary and wiki, it's a real thing (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bank_Act_(Canada)), but its something that happens every 5 years, and has never lead to a shutdown of any bank in Canada.

Sounds like those two American retards jumped at the first piece of "DoInG My OwN ReSeArCH" and ran with it.

EvoFire

There's a parking levy, which you pay, and then you levy your GST and PST on top. Which means you get taxed on tax.

It's the same for most levies it's annoying. The electronics disposal fee is a flat levy on your purchase based on the type of electronic, then you pay tax on top of it.

I believe same on the luxury car levy for >$100k

That is INSANE.

So cause I'm a dumbass and didn't look it up first. I brought the V15 down to the store at PC and they don't have a repair department.

They instead gave me a number to call Dyson.

Lo and behold, they don't have the parts to fix my vacuum, so my two choices was either wait for them to be in stock with no ETA, or exchange for a new one.

I decided on the exchange option which would take two weeks. Again, they no longer have the V15 Detect on stock so they'll upgrade me to something better.

At this point I'm not sure if I'm getting a V15 Absolute or a Gen5 Detect. But my wife wants her vacuum.

Indeed - we have 2 Dyson V8s (or earlier?) and we have 2 because the first one developed a crack or something (and I think it was due to us dropping it) and because the crack was part of the main body Dyson basically sent us a whole new V8. I think we were missing just the battery or something to make it whole and now we have 2 Dyson V8s.

We've had both for at least 6 years now and my wife loves them - never had a reliability issue with ours.

I think ideally you’ll have to contribute $31K to your RRSP to zero out your self-employment income as your employment income deductions are unlikely to cover any of your additional self-employed taxes. Unless, you have employment expenses to deduct through your job. Try to max out every dollar of expenses related to your self-employment income as much as possible.

If it is your first year of freelancing, keep in mind that GST registration for self-employed gross revenue over $30k+ is required as well.

Put a new end on the cord and replace the rivet yourself. It's only a few bucks worth of stuff at Princess Auto.

I'll probably do that. I've never worked on appliances before (because of their disposability) but I'll make an exception here because the vacuum itself isn't actually broken.

That said, my new Shark (Stratos) came in and it's a waaaay better machine. I wouldn't pay $500 for it, but the design, features and even the build is far better than what it replaced.

I think it was carbon monoxide either way. The question will be whether it was intentional or not.

A theory that makes sense to me is that he died first and she couldn't take it and just took the pills to join him. One of the dogs ate some pills and joined them too

Sad story either way, of one of the greatest Hollywood actors in history and his wife who I assume they loved each other.

Unless it's as you say, she couldn't wait for him to die so she could kill herself. Instead of divorcing him some time over the last 3 decades.

CivicBlues

That doesn't make sense either. She found him dead in the mud room and she took a bunch of pills without even bothering to call an ambulance or move him? More likely she took a bunch of pills and Gene in a rush to get help somehow collapsed and died while trying to leave the house.

But this is all just speculation.

So I went to test out the 992.2 yesterday with dark0821144223 and I gotta say. That car really…. REALLY ain’t worth the money. For a base model car with just a few lousy options to hit 180k Msrp is eye watering.

Looks:

It’s a beetle. Nothing special. Looks like every beetle before it.

Interior:

It’s okay, materials are average but coming from the ratrolla it’s hard to swallow all this cheap looking plastics. The center console is a joke. There is a single cup holder and you have to remove it to make it into a phone slot. Otherwise your phone and wallet will have to remain in your pockets or the glove box. Very little interior storage.
That parcel shelf behind is also a joke.

Backseat is hilarious. I had to try it. My head was completely cocked to one side and the poor little sales girl in front barely had space. If anyone buys a 911, try the backseat. The seat cushion was so paper thin that in an 10 minute ride my ass fell asleep.

Also the road noise and interior noise is unbearable. This is not something you can remotely drive on the highway. You’ll go fucking deaf in 20 minutes. If you try taking this on the i5 you’ll probably get iPhone alerts saying you’re exceeding decibel recommendations.

Performance:

Steering was kind of a let down. Wayyy too light. It was however very precise but still no steering feel. I would say my shitbox in sport mode has a heavier feel, and I was already in sport plus mode too. The girl said I needed to buy a sport steering plus package that would make it heavier and more feel (this is a must have)

Suspension: harsh but controlled. Went over some bumpy ass roads and even though I can feel every single bump, it was well muted. The seats themselves don’t have much cushioning so it goes up your spine. The insane road noise is more present than anything though.

Handling: just a short run so I couldn’t really give it a full run down but it feels like a gr86 with more power. The ass doesn’t fly around anymore. It’s not twitchy. It’s very easy to drive. The closest feeling would be a like a CTR with more power.

Engine: corse. Unrefined. Sounds like shit. A tad bit laggy too but not bad. Sports exhaust made sure we were all deaf by the end of the test drive. At 3k rpm up to 7200rpm redline it was just loud as fuck without sounding good. Maybe it wasn’t even that loud outside but inside the cabin it was brutal.

Verdict: there’s no “luxury” at all in this car. It’s way too fast with Zero chill. Besides all the douche factor of owning a 911, the car itself is really quite torturous if you wanna just drive it normally. Yes it’ll be great in a backroad but at 200k after taxes it god damn better be. It’s way too much performance and savage as a city car. They’ve tuned out all the 911ness of the old generations and it’s basically a buttoned down gr86 now.

It’s not bad. I must say. It’s just not for me. I don’t need something that loud and deafening everytime I wanna go for a drive.

I echo a lot of the same feelings about it when I test drove a 991.1 4S. The car is very capable, the chassis can handle a lot more power and still not be phased. It didn't feel lacking despite only 380hp. I was half looking for a GTS, the friend who let me take the 4S out for an extended jaunt in the city told me that the GTS probably won't change much, I'd have to go to a GT3 to really feel a difference.

I do not fit behind myself in a 992.1 Turbo that I tried in the show room. The front seat doesn't even click into place if I'm sitting in the back.

The difference is I don't find it loud. The M3 is quite loud and in comparison the 4S was quieter, road noise is bad with my 200TW tires. The main takeaway if you drive my M3 on the highway is, that's a lot of tire noise and it's much louder than my exhaust.

you gotta try the sport exhaust on the 992.2.

The engine/exhaust sounds like a sink garbage disposal with a fork stuck in it. Now turn that volume up to 80 decibels and there you go.

I don't know why anyone would want 9000rpms of that horrendous sound. anything from 3000-7000rpm already is deafening and not in a good way.

v8 or v10 or v12 only. If I wanted to be deaf, ill find something more sonorous than a lousy flat 6

Porsches never sounded amazing imo. I don't get why ppl get their panties in a bunch over it. There are a few models with the right combo of exhaust sounds decent. Then there's the current gen RS cars which actually DOES sound good, but you are paying a huge premium for it.

The problem isn't really endemic to Porsche, it's across all the current cars as the proliferation of turbos and particulate filters really choke out the exhaust. We are still making good power but all the cars sound like wet farts. Audis are in particular guilty of this.

Then the second problem is aftermarket exhausts. No one is actually engineering them to sound good anymore, all they are doing is trying to make the most power and for others (looking at you FIR) aiming to make the loudest possible exhaust.

My M3 sounds terrible stock at all ranges. Now it only sounds terrible at part throttle after I made changes.

Couple of thoughts,

The back seat is pretty much decoration or under 5 year old kids.
Try a manual transmission 911 or the turbo S if they let you.
It's loud yes, but to some it's better than the car being so quiet that they have to pump in artificial engine sounds.

Traum

Come on, man. Everybody knows the backseats in the 911 is for show. They are there for lower tax credit or some shxt in Europe bcos it is marketed as a 4-seater.

The Sports Steering Plus thing sounds gimmicky to me. At low speed, it is supposed to alter the steering ratio as well as provide additional (power-assisted) steering so that the wheels turn faster, and makes it easier for parking. And then at high speed, it provides less power assistance so that the steering firms up. So overall, I don't actually know whether it'll make the steering feel better (compared to the standard setup) unless you are driving at higher speeds. Also, it is only supposed to be a software level toggle that enables or disables the feature. I am not 100% certain about this, but I seem to think that if you have access to one of those 3rd party Porsche diagnostics system, you'd be able to change the setting through that yourself.

Having driven several different generations and trims of 911, I'd say their steering feel do tend to feel a bit light. I suppose that is a function of not really having any weight over the front axle, together with front tires that aren't super wide.

For suspension / ride comfort, do you remember what kind of tires the car was running on? More specifically, the wheel size and aspect ratio of the tires would be the crucial factors here. The base car already comes with 235/40/19 and 295/35/20 tires, so there isn't a heck of a lot of sidewall to cushion the ride to begin with. But more than likely, the dealership has probably chosen the +1 wheel "upgrade", so the car is riding on 245/30/20 and 305/30/21 (or 315/30/21) tires. With that little rubber in the sidewalls, PASM is already doing a crazy good job of dampening all the harshness out of the bumps.

The old NA flat 6 generally have a very characteristic engine note that is specific to Porsche, and the 981 (Cayman/Boxster)'s engine sounds downright orgasmic in the high rpm range. But with Porsche switching most of their engines to become turbo-charged units, the turbo engines don't sound nearly as good as the old engines anymore.

And interestingly, according to other Porsche owners, even though the current gen Cayman has a 4.0L NA flat 6 option available, that engine doesn't sound as good as the older 3.4L and 3.8L flat 6 found in the 981 generation. I've only heard of the sound clips over the Internet, so I can't say my impressions here are all that accurate, but I'd tend to agree with the comment as well.

I had the opportunity to ride along inside a 992.1 GT3 Touring at Mission last year, and that 4.0L NA flat 6 sounds out of this world at the track. Of course, I'll need to take on a second mortage that I probably wouldn't qualify for if I ever wanted to buy that GT3 Touring, so there is zero chance that I'll be able to experience that car first hand LOL~

I don’t get how a flat 6 can ever sound good. It just doesn’t have the wail or depth that a v8 or higher cylinder count can achieve.

Hell I’ll take a v6 before a flat 6 in sound.

I guess I will chime in... since I also drove it...

You have to remember, I drive shit boxes, I am not used to luxury but above all I am a huge Porsche fanboy.

Looks - God damn its a 911, ofc it looks good lol

Handling - Well, we took turns like a normal car, so I don't know. But you can tell the car is capable, been so long since I drove a car where the nose just turns in the moment you breath on the wheel.

Acceleration - we barely broke the speed limit, but maybe or maybe not I passed a black BMW on the wrong side of a single yellow line, showing how much I wasn't ready, I hit the limiter twice, didn't realize even a base Carrera will rev up that fast in Sport Plus with the 20 second overboost active.

From a performance standpoint, you don't need anything more, yes there are alot more faster cars around, but I cant even keep up with the PDK, now imagine I have the manual in Carrera T, it will just be hitting the limiter all day long....

Experience - It is RAW and I love it, maybe I came from shitty cars, but I find it dailyable, I did tell my wife she will hate it... still... I can see it as my forever car to be honest, if that is where my motoring peaks, I will be totally okay with that.

Price - it is stupid, you should never buy new in BC, $190K + taxes = $256,400 out the door. Buy used, save the LST at least, and if want to "pick up a used Taycan, Cayenne PHEV to trade in" etc etc...

Lastly - Porsche should listen to Badhobz more than people like me, he can actually pull the trigger if the car ticks all the right boxes hahaha, where as I can praise how much I like it, and yet never be in the office jogging down my name on that doted line.

https://i.imgur.com/J0dhrVj.jpeg

And yes yes, I know this is not the right gen, or the right car, or the stock exhaust, but I am just saying, some of the flat 6 can sound good... you just need to close your eye and swipe your card lolol

I'm not a car guy and I have zero experience with nice cars. I've owned 2 Mazda's and currently own an Acura and Toyota, all regular cars and from a driving experience I've driven friends BMW, Audi's, and Telsa? lol again just some fairly regular stuff none of the super high end sport models. That said, Porsche's look damn nice to me and I've always thought if I suddenly became balling out of control I'd just get one as a daily driver because it felt like a crazy car that you can actually drive all the time unlike a Lambo or something. I'll never be that balling though and in the end I just need something pretty vanilla that gets me from point A to B.

What a depressing conversation this morning.

Client comes in and she's noticeably low energy/mood, so I ask her what's up. She said that she's been thinking lately and she doesn't have anything to her name. She rents and only has a very small investment portfolio with some standard mutual funds in it. She's 55 this year and I guess she's having some sort of mid life crisis. She came here when she was 30, sent money home for her family, and she's probably at like $50k salary.

She asked what she could do and I pulled out a compound interest calculator. I told her that if she could save $300/month for the next 15 years and invested that in the market at 10% return she would have $125k when she's 70. Not a lot, but better than nothing. If she could invest more aggressively she would have more.

But then she said getting 10% return is too high, that's not possible and it dawned on me that there's no way she'll be able to invest aggressively. She just doesn't have the experience and knowledge about the market. If she doesn't invest aggressively now, she's not going to have anything when she retires. It's pretty sad. I guess if you're 55 and you're not financially on your way, I don't know if you will ever be. I guess it's not realistic for a 55 year old to invest aggressively, it's just out of character and I suppose quite scary to do.

My oldest client is 76 and she's still working because she needs the cash flow, that's probably the worst.

You are right about the 10% return thing. I have lots of friends who have been toting about 10% yoy the last few years, and my mutual funds are doing around 5%. The problem is I don't have the experience or time to unlock that 10% average yoy. Nor do I have the wealth for some one to manage my money. The average Joe isn't going to see those gains.

I'm curious what your 55 yo client does for a living. Even without a healthy retirement saving, she should still have a decent amount of OAS and CPP at 65 if she's worked for around 30 years by the time she retires. If she's not alone and has a spouse to share costs, it's not an untenable situation. Lots of seniors in Vancouver don't drive and because they don't have anywhere to go to in a hurry, the annual senior's bus pass is all they needed.

There's lots of places that have senior friendly activities that also saves monies. Killarney community center for example has senior lunches for a few bucks and you can get out, food cheap, mingle, kill time, etc.

I just don't think new turbo cars can really sound good. To be fair they are good at everything else. The power delivery is crazy but they are all so tooty. Like g35s on roids (like most g35 owners)

I think they can sound good, but you need to piece together the right exhaust for it. However you'll rarely get the induction noise that people like unless you've got a ginormous turbo running boost pressures that would put the Mariana's Trench to shame.

Yeah, I've been trying to figure out what to get for the M2. Perhaps I just mid-pipe it, and get a valve controller.

I don't get why they can't separate the fake burble with the open valves and more sensitive throttle.

The challenge is that she's a renter so CPP/OAS isn't going to be enough - if she owned her place then she'd be ok especially if her spouse was around. My parents live pretty comfortably on about $45k or so (CPP/OAS + Rental Income) but that's because they have a paid off house. My in-laws live on even less ($36k?) and they manage ok as well.

I've gotten a little tired of the burbles tbh.

I agree with you I wish at least throttle mapping and valves could be separated.

That’s the vast majority of the population. They think investing is more difficult than it seems. Once you get started it’s smooth sailing. Most people are just too lazy to start and don’t believe in delayed gratification.

She has an admin role in an office, so i'm just guessing her salary. She could be making more. If she pushes her CPP payment to 70 that will help, but then that will affect her ability to get GIS if you make mor than $22k in retirement. So if she's max CPP and then she has some income withdrawal from her investments, she won't qualify for GIS.

Tell her to buy in a few months when Trump bottoms out the economy and it'll be like childs play making 10% p.a.

Anyone have a go-to store for Apple refurb? Looking to buy a 10y/o a replacement phone so I’m not looking to break the bank. Looking for an 11.. local shop quoted me $425. Yikes. There’s a couple on CL for $230-275 but, ya know.. CL. I’ll do it if I have to but thought I’d check in with the frugal shoppers thread creating, Costco returns department abusing folks at RS first.

if you want an iphone but dont want to spend more than $300, don't go buying an old iphone that's like 5 years old. Buy an iphone SE 3rd gen. it's a bit more budget since it has a small screen and stuff but its only 2 years old and has a pretty decent processor. if you don't care about having much storage, this one is only like $260.
